Go for a flat, compact fixture: in a bathroom of a few square metres, every centimetre of ceiling height counts. A model with a diffuser, an integrated LED or an E27 socket, rated IP20, is enough in a dry room, with a diameter in proportion to the floor area.

Which bathroom ceiling light should you choose?

Choose a fixture mounted flush against the ceiling, so it does not intrude on the space where you stand. The choice then comes down to four points, compared in this order: bulk, socket, ingress protection rating and colour temperature.

Bathroom light: the criteria that really matter

Bulk comes first, because a fixture that hangs too low reduces the walkway. The socket decides how you use it: with an integrated LED, the bulb cannot be replaced; with E27, you choose the bulb and its temperature yourself. The ingress protection rating separates dry rooms from those exposed to splashes. The light colour sets the mood, soft or crisp. You will find all of this in our ceiling lights and ceiling lamps as well as in our full lighting range.

Bathroom lamp: which diameter for a small room?

Diameter goes hand in hand with floor area. Cristel measures 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height, while Brume is just 2.3 cm thick: two formats that almost disappear into the ceiling. Galaxy, at ø26 cm, suits a medium-sized room. Nerissa and Bambusa, at ø40 cm, are best kept for the largest bathrooms or high ceilings. Round shapes dominate this family, rounded off by a few ovals.

Which ceiling light format for which room
Model Format Socket Ingress protection Rooms listed
Nerissa ø40 cm / H 16.5 cm E27 IP20 Bedroom, bathroom, hallway
Bambusa ø40 cm / H 16.5 cm E27 IP20 Living room, bedroom, bathroom, hallway, dining room
Galaxy ø26 cm / H 9 cm LED IP44 Bathroom
Brume 2.3 cm thick LED IP20 Office, living room, bedroom, hallway, entrance, bathroom
AeroLumière 60 x 40 x 5 cm LED IP20 Living room, bedroom, office, hallway, entrance, bathroom
Cristel 10 cm diameter x 4 cm LED IP20 Living room, bedroom, bathroom, dining room

Chandelier or ceiling light for a bathroom: what is the difference?

A ceiling light stays flush against the ceiling and leaves the space clear; a chandelier hangs down into the room and suits high ceilings. In a bathroom, where you stand upright in a confined space, a ceiling light spreads light more evenly and removes the risk of bumping into it.

Pendant light in a bathroom: when is it possible?

A pendant remains an option if the ceiling height allows it and the fixing point stays clear of the route to the toilet. Under a low ceiling, a flush model is safer. If the room is tall, a ceiling fixture for high ceilings can be fitted without getting in the way.

Large chandelier for high ceilings and living room chandelier: why they rarely work in a bathroom

A large chandelier needs space and distance: it comes into its own in a living room, where it becomes the focal point, as in our selection of living room chandeliers. Moved into a few square metres, it hangs too low and blocks light from the sides. Better to keep these models for tall rooms and give the bathroom a compact, discreet fixture.

Which light for a bathroom: warm white or cool white?

Warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, is the most comfortable in a small space, morning and evening. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, gives a crisper result. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, lights brightly but hardens wall colours.

Living room light colour: does the same rule apply in a bathroom?

The rule does not change, the proportions do. In a large living room, you can mix moods and play with several sources, as shown by LED ceiling lights for living rooms. In a bathroom, a single source lights the whole room: its temperature should be chosen for the main use, and warm white is most often the right compromise.

Adjustable temperature: how flexible is it in practice?

Brume covers all three white families, from warm to cool, on a single fixture. That is useful if you want soft light in the evening and something crisper in the morning, without changing the fitting. The other models in the selection have a fixed temperature, or one that depends on the bulb you choose.

Light temperatures and the models concerned
Temperature Result in a small room Models in the selection
Warm white 2700 - 3500 K Soft light, comfortable in the evening Galaxy, Brume
Neutral white 3500 - 4500 K Crisp result, without harshness Brume
Cool white 4500 - 6500 K Bright lighting, strong contrast Brume
Not specified Depends on the E27 bulb chosen Nerissa, Bambusa

Which LED ceiling light should you choose for a bathroom?

An LED ceiling light with an opal or acrylic diffuser spreads light without hot spots, which suits a narrow room. The wattages in the selection range from 3 W to 48 W, and some models accept a dimmer.

Powerful LED ceiling light: useful in a bathroom?

In a few square metres, high wattage brings nothing but glare. Low-wattage LED ceiling lights with even light are enough to illuminate a small room. Save the highest wattages for large living rooms, where the fixture has to cover a bigger floor area.

E27 socket or integrated LED: how do you decide?

An integrated LED saves you changing the bulb and keeps the fixture slim, as on the Brume ultra-slim LED ceiling light. An E27 socket lets you choose the bulb, its temperature and its brightness: that is the case with the Nerissa beige globe ceiling light. Some models accept a dimmer, which you can find among the dimmable ceiling lights.

How do you install a ceiling light in a bathroom?

Switch off the power at the breaker, locate the cable feed, fix the bracket to the ceiling, connect the wires and then clip on the diffuser. Some models are only a few centimetres thick, which makes fitting easier under a low ceiling.

What can you do when there is no ceiling light point?

If a cable feed already exists, a ceiling light can be connected without major work. If not, creating a power supply is a job for an electrician. A wall light or a track fixture avoids running an extra line. A slim model, fixed to the ceiling, remains the most discreet solution so you do not lose height.

Mounting height and routine care of the fixture

A ceiling light is fitted as close to the ceiling as possible, without hanging down into the room. For care, switch off the power, then dust with a soft, dry cloth. A smooth surface, acrylic or painted metal, is easier to clean than a woven texture, whose gaps trap dust.

Which other rooms suit this type of ceiling light?

These round or oval formats, often in metal, bamboo or acrylic, work just as well in a hallway, an entrance, a bedroom or an office. Several models are shared between rooms, which helps keep the lighting consistent on the same floor.

Kitchen ceiling light: which model extends a modern kitchen decor?

In a modern kitchen decor, you want a clean line and crisp light above the worktop. A flat fixture, in metal or acrylic, matches smooth cabinet fronts. You will find these models among the kitchen ceiling lights and the LED ceiling lights for kitchens.

Bedroom and hallway ceiling lights: which consistency should you choose?

In a hallway, a compact model that lights without casting shadows is best, as you can see in the hallway ceiling lights. In a bedroom, warm, diffused light is more restful, as on the bedroom ceiling lights. Keeping the same family of fixtures from room to room gives a discreet sense of continuity.

Metal, bamboo, acrylic or crystal: which material for a bathroom ceiling light?

Metal dominates the selection, often combined with woven bamboo or acrylic. Crystal and faceted glass play with reflections in a small space. In a confined room, a smooth surface is easier to clean than a woven texture.

Rattan or woven bamboo ceiling light: what natural effect?

Woven bamboo brings a warm weave and soft shadow to the ceiling. The Bambusa woven bamboo ceiling light is one example, at ø40 cm. This finish needs regular dusting, as the weave traps more dust than a smooth dome.

White, black or gold: which ceiling light colour should you choose?

White blends into a pale ceiling and visually enlarges a narrow room, as you can browse in the white models for small rooms. Black creates a crisp contrast, visible in the black finishes. Gold and silver add a discreet reflection, as on the Cristel faceted glass ceiling light. The metal ceiling lights cover most of these shades.

How do you choose without getting it wrong?

First compare the diameter or length with the floor area of your bathroom, then the socket, the colour temperature and the ingress protection rating. The whole selection comes with a two-year guarantee, secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service. Unsure about the format? A flat model just 2.3 cm thick, like Brume, settles the question of height.

Affordable models or statement piece: how do you tell them apart?

Budget should be judged by use, not by price: a small round format in acrylic or painted metal covers a simple need, while a crystal dome or a large ø40 cm format is a decorative choice. The most affordable models and the modern style ceiling lights are easy to compare side by side.

Guarantee, delivery and returns: what Designix covers

The whole selection comes with a two-year guarantee. Payment is secure, delivery is tracked, and Designix customer service helps with your choice before and after ordering. To decide, compare the floor area of your bathroom with the free space under the ceiling: the diameter should stay in proportion to the room and the height available. Hesitating between two diameters? Confirm your bathroom ceiling light in the collection.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need an IP44 ceiling light in a bathroom?

The ingress protection rating depends on exposure to water. The selection is mostly made up of IP20 models, intended for dry rooms, plus one IP44 model, Galaxy, designed for a damp room. In a bathroom with no water splashes, IP20 is the usual rating.

Can you fit a dimmable ceiling light in a bathroom?

Yes, provided the model is dimmer-compatible, which applies to part of the selection, including Brume and AeroLumière. A dimmer lets you lower the brightness at night. The switch or module installed must also be compatible, otherwise dimming will not work.

Which light colour should you choose for a bathroom?

Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, gives soft light in a small space. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, offers a crisper result. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, lights brightly but hardens wall colours. Brume covers all three.

Which bathroom ceiling light should you choose when the room is very small?

In a narrow bathroom, a flat ceiling light is better so you do not reduce the walkway. The most compact formats in the selection are Cristel, at 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height, and Brume, which is 2.3 cm thick. Then compare that diameter with the floor area.

Can you install a pendant light in a bathroom?

A pendant is possible if the ceiling height allows it and it does not block the route to the toilet. In most bathrooms, a ceiling light or a wall light removes that risk. The selection offers flush models, including one just 2.3 cm thick.
