Work in this order: measure the free space on the ceiling, choose the socket, then check the protection rating. A diameter of 10 to 14 cm is enough above a door, a 26 to 40 cm model fills a larger room. The socket decides what can be replaced, the protection rating decides what the room tolerates.
Which modern bathroom ceiling light for a toilet?
A toilet ceiling light is chosen on three points: the size of the room, the socket (integrated LED or E27 socket) and the protection rating. Diameters range from 10 to 40 cm, in metal, bamboo, glass or crystal, and all suit a small space.
Design ceiling light for a toilet: the three deciding criteria
Diameter first: it determines the space taken on the ceiling and the distance between the source and the eyes. Then the socket: an integrated bulb cannot be replaced, an E27 socket can. Finally the protection rating, which depends on the actual humidity of the room and not just its function.
A compact model like the Belano LED ceiling light in aluminium fits within 14 cm of diameter and sits above a door without getting in the way. For a larger room, the Nerissa beige ball takes 40 cm on the ceiling and becomes the focal point of the room.
Design toilet ceiling light: which light for a small space?
In a narrow room, light should come down as a wash rather than hit a point above the head. Some LED models in the collection work in warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K (Belano, Galaxy), a rendering that warms the tiles instead of making them look grey. The Galaxy IP44 with opal diffuser softens the source: you can look up without being dazzled.
Toilet ceiling light: integrated LED or E27 socket?
Both families exist here. LED models have the integrated bulb (Belano 15 W, Cristel 3 or 5 W, Galaxy 12 W); E27 socket models (Nerissa, Bambusa, 40 W) take the bulb of your choice. Integrated LED cannot be replaced, E27 can be changed whenever you want.
LED toilet ceiling light: what cannot be replaced
On these models, the bulb is part of the fixture. Nothing to unscrew, no looking for a bulb reference ten years later. Maintenance is limited to cleaning the diffuser and the body. In return, the day you want a different light temperature, the whole fixture changes.
E27 socket: change the bulb without changing the ceiling light
The Nerissa and the Bambusa accept an E27 bulb up to 40 W. You put in the light you want, including replacing an old design halogen with an energy-saving LED. It is also what allows you to keep the same fixture for many years by replacing only the bulb. See also the LED ceiling lights with refined design if you prefer the second family.
Which light to choose for a windowless toilet?
In a windowless room, aim for a warm and diffuse light. The LED models in the collection are in warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, and the Galaxy spreads light behind an opal diffuser: the eye never falls directly on the source.
Colour temperature: why warm white
A very cold light, above 4000 K, gives a clinic impression and brings out light tiles in grey. Warm white, around 2700 to 3500 K, makes skin and tile tones softer. It is the setting of the LED models in this selection, and it remains comfortable even without natural light.
Opal diffuser and visual comfort
An opal cover places a veil between the bulb and the room. Light becomes a halo rather than a bright point, which changes everything in a space where you sit and often look upwards. The Galaxy, at 26 cm diameter, plays this role with 12 W.
Toilet ceiling light in wood, metal or crystal: which material for which style?
Woven bamboo gives a warm rendering, aluminium and metal a clean and contemporary one, faceted glass and crystal a more dressed effect. The material decides as much the mood as the maintenance: it is the first choice to make.
| Model | Material | Socket | Protection rating | Dimensions | Style | Colour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Belano | Aluminium | LED | IP20 | Ø 14 cm | Contemporary | White |
| Nerissa | Bamboo and metal | E27 | IP20 | Ø 40 cm / H 16.5 cm | Modern and contemporary | Beige |
| Cristel | Crystal, glass and steel | LED | IP20 | Ø 10 cm / H 4 cm | Modern | White, gold, silver |
| Bambusa | Bamboo and metal | E27 | IP20 | Ø 40 cm / H 16.5 cm | Modern and contemporary | Black and beige |
| Galaxy | Plastic and metal | LED | IP44 | Ø 26 cm / H 9 cm | Modern | White |
Toilet ceiling lights in woven bamboo
The Nerissa and the Bambusa share the same woven bamboo ball, Ø 40 cm and 16.5 cm high, one in beige, the other in black and beige. This material filters light and sends it back in fine lines. It needs dry dusting, never a damp cloth. The same spirit is found in woven bamboo applied to the living room.
Crystal and faceted glass in a small room
The Cristel in faceted glass measures 10 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height and comes in white, gold or silver. The facets return a more dressed sparkle without cluttering the ceiling. Glass is cleaned with a mild product, without abrasive.
Which ceiling light format for a small toilet?
Diameter decides the space taken on the ceiling: 10 cm for the Cristel, 14 cm for the Belano, 26 cm for the Galaxy and 40 cm for the Nerissa and the Bambusa. With a height of 4 to 16.5 cm, a flat model fits above a door or a tall unit.
Diameter and height: measure before drilling
| Model | Diameter | Height | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cristel | 10 cm | 4 cm | Round |
| Belano | 14 cm | Cylindrical | Round |
| Galaxy | 26 cm | 9 cm | Round |
| Nerissa | 40 cm | 16.5 cm | Ball |
| Bambusa | 40 cm | 16.5 cm | Ball |
Low ceiling height: flat models
With less than 2.30 m of ceiling, a 16 cm fixture is immediately visible. The Cristel does not exceed 4 cm and the Galaxy 9 cm: they leave the passage clear, including above a door or a tall unit. Compare with the modern style for passages if the same problem arises in the hallway.
IP20 or IP44: do you need a waterproof ceiling light in a toilet?
The protection rating follows the humidity risk, not the function of the room. A toilet without shower or bath is fine with IP20, like the Belano, the Nerissa, the Cristel or the Bambusa in woven bamboo. If the room is damp or close to a water point, IP44 protects better.
What IP20 and IP44 mean
IP20 means the fixture is protected against solid objects larger than 12 mm, so against a finger, but not against water splashes. IP44 adds protection against splashes from all directions. In the collection, the Belano, the Nerissa, the Cristel and the Bambusa are IP20, and the Galaxy is IP44.
Damp toilets: when to switch to IP44
If the room is poorly ventilated, if a washbasin or shower is right next to it, or if you want the same protection as in a bathroom, switch to IP44. The LED versions for wet rooms follow the same logic.
How to install and maintain a toilet ceiling light?
Installation is done on the ceiling, on the existing junction box, out of reach of splashes and high enough to pass a cloth. E27 socket models are unscrewed to change the bulb, woven bamboo is dusted dry. The Cristel accepts a dimmer; the warranty ranges from 2 to 5 years depending on the model.
Fixing the ceiling light in the right place
Cut the power at the circuit breaker before any handling. Locate the junction box and check that the fixture is neither in the jet of a tap nor against a partition where you rub. The Cristel accepts a dimmer if you want to lower the light at night without lighting the whole room.
Cleaning bamboo, glass and metal
The woven bamboo of the Nerissa and the Bambusa is dusted dry, with a soft brush. The faceted glass of the Cristel and the opal diffuser of the Galaxy are cleaned with a soft cloth and a non-abrasive product. To access the bulb of E27 models, unscrew the diffuser. See also the LED lighting for passage rooms if you are treating the whole floor.
How to match the toilet ceiling light with the rest of the home?
The same family of materials and colours links the rooms. White dresses the Belano, the Cristel and the Galaxy; beige the Nerissa; black and beige the Bambusa. The toilet ceiling light can extend the style of the hallway or entrance it adjoins, without copying the neighbouring room.
Ceiling light colours: white, beige, black, gold
White blends into the ceiling and leaves all the space to other elements. The beige of the Nerissa and the black of the Bambusa assert themselves more. The gold and silver finishes of the Cristel bring a more dressed touch, to be reserved for a room where the rest stays sober. The white finishes are also available in other rooms.
Continuity hallway, entrance and bathroom
Repeat the same material from one room to another rather than the same model: the eye recognises a family. For a model for the neighbouring hallway or to light the entrance in the same spirit, keep metal or bamboo as the common thread. The same rule applies to a kitchen equipped with LED, where the same vocabulary of materials is often found in a modern kitchen decor. And if you are simply looking for toilet ceiling lights or browsing all Designix light fixtures, the connections are easier.
Frequently asked questions
Toilet light fixture: which protection rating to choose?
In a toilet without shower or bath, an IP20 ceiling light is enough: this is the case for the Belano, the Nerissa, the Cristel and the Bambusa. If the room is damp, poorly ventilated or close to a water point, an IP44 model like the Galaxy protects better against splashes.
Is an IP44 ceiling light mandatory in a toilet?
No. The protection rating follows the humidity risk of the room: IP20 suits a dry and ventilated toilet, IP44 a damp room or one close to a water point. The Galaxy is the IP44 model in this collection, Ø 26 cm and 12 W.
Wooden toilet ceiling light: which materials to pair it with?
The woven bamboo of the Nerissa and the Bambusa matches black or gold metal, already present on these models, and with light tiles. Avoid combining several metal finishes in the same small room: keep the same tone as the taps and handles.
Can you install a design ceiling light in a windowless toilet?
Yes. In a windowless room, favour a warm white light: the LED models in the collection are 2700 to 3500 K, and the Galaxy diffuses through an opal diffuser, which prevents glare when you look up at the ceiling.
How to change the bulb of a toilet ceiling light?
It depends on the model: the Nerissa and the Bambusa have an E27 socket, the bulb unscrews and is replaced. The Belano, the Cristel and the Galaxy have an integrated LED bulb that cannot be replaced. Cut the power before any handling, whatever the model.
One last useful criterion before confirming: the height of the fixture once installed, because it decides whether you can pass your hand to maintain it. The Cristel remains the flattest at 4 cm, the Belano the most compact in diameter at 14 cm, and the Galaxy combines 9 cm height with an IP44 rating.
