How to Choose Your Lighting Wisely?
This article is also available in French: Comment Choisir son Eclairage de Manière Avisée ?

It seems logical that placing a light source in a room would be beneficial. However, the result is not always what one expects.

To light your living room effectively, consider these tips:
- Take into account the number of light bulbs and their light output (in lumens rather than watts).
- Think about the distance between the lamps and the essential elements of the room (this affects the amount of light received).
- The color and reflectivity of surfaces play a role (dark colors absorb light, while light ones reflect it better).
- Choose the type of bulb and its color temperature carefully (warm bulbs lean toward yellow, cool ones toward blue or white).
- The use of lampshades influences the diffusion of light.
- The direction of the light depends largely on the design of the lampshade.
- Maximize natural light by moving furniture that blocks windows, and ensure you have sufficient lighting at night.
- Light effects, such as reflections or shadows, can become decorative elements.
- The color of the lampshade modifies the tint of the light in the room. For pure light, opt for full-spectrum lamps that are not altered by the lampshade.
- Be careful with low-power lighting fixtures. Some are more decorative than effective for illuminating a space, unless that is the intended effect.
