A wrought iron ceiling light is chosen first on three markers: diameter, socket and the room to be lit. This entire selection is round, E27 and IP20 rated, with a two-year warranty, for the living room, dining room or kitchen.
What is the difference between iron and wrought iron?
Iron is an industrial metal, cast or rolled, with regular, reproducible shapes. Wrought iron is worked hot, hammered then assembled: the surface stays irregular and matte, and the joints show. On the ceiling, this gives sharper cast shadows and a structure that reads like a drawing.
Wrought iron, iron, steel: what it changes on the ceiling
A forged frame is stiffer and moves less over time than simple folded sheet metal. Steel stands out for its clean lines and even finish; worked metal keeps a living patina. In this selection, the structures mix metal, wood, glass or steel depending on the model, with colours ranging from green and black to white, beige and gold. For a dark, clean look, see the black finished metal structures.
How to recognise a wrought iron ceiling light?
You spot it by its visible joints, its rods and scrolls, and a surface that is never perfectly smooth. An industrial copy, on the other hand, shows smooth welds and an exact repetition from one unit to the next. Models that combine metal with light wood, such as the ceiling lights combining wood, show this structural work well, with a readable backplate and attached heads.
Which room for a wrought iron ceiling light?
It finds its place where the ceiling must light without cluttering: living room, dining room and kitchen first, bedroom for a large round format. The models in the collection are IP20, so reserved for dry rooms: neither bathroom nor outdoors.
| Room | Suitable models | Format | Socket |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Sylvanor, Halona, Kallis | up to 80 cm diameter depending on model | E27 |
| Dining room | Sylvanor, Halona, Kallis | 70 cm (6 heads) or 80 cm (8 heads) for Halona | E27 |
| Kitchen | Sylvanor, Kallis | backplate, height 23 cm | E27 |
| Bedroom | Halona | 70 cm diameter (6 heads) | E27 |
| Bathroom, outdoors, damp room | no model in this selection | IP20 rating | E27 |
For the living room and dining room
Above a table, a large round lights widely and sets a pattern on the ceiling. The large round Halona with 6 or 8 heads comes in 70 cm and 80 cm diameter, with dimming possible: useful when the room also serves as a dining area. To light a living space, its round shape occupies the ceiling without dropping into the line of sight.
For the kitchen, bedroom and hallways
In the kitchen, a flat 23 cm high backplate frees up movement. The Sylvanor ceiling light and its green spots and the Kallis model on a light wood backplate can be aimed at the worktop. For a bedroom, see the round bedroom formats, and for hallways and passages, compact models are enough.
Which bulb and which light temperature to choose?
The whole collection is E27: you choose the bulb, its power and its colour temperature, and you replace it without changing the fixture. Two models are listed as warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, the light that warms a living room or dining room in the evening.
Warm white or neutral white on the ceiling?
Warm white, around 2700 to 3000 K, leans amber and suits meals and quiet moments. Neutral white, closer to 4000 K, makes colours sharper and suits a worktop. The bulb decides, not the fixture: the same ceiling light can take either. Browse the E27 ceiling lights if the freedom to change bulbs matters to you.
LED, smart or dimmable bulb: what is possible in E27
The E27 socket accepts a standard LED bulb, a smart bulb or a dimmable bulb, provided the fixture or the switch allows it. Part of the selection is dimmable, including Halona. Check the models fitted with a dimmer before choosing, and keep in mind that the power stated on a model with adjustable spots is 40 W.
Which format and height for your ceiling?
Measure the available space before choosing: the large round models in the collection go up to 80 cm diameter for 19 cm height, the models with a wood backplate measure 23 cm high. The flatter the ceiling light, the better it suits rooms where people move around.
| Model | Materials | Colours | Format | Light temperature | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sylvanor | wood and metal | green | H 23 cm, four adjustable spots | warm white 2700-3500 K | kitchen, living room, dining room |
| Halona | metal, glass and steel | black, white, gold | 70 cm x 17 cm (6 heads) or 80 cm x 19 cm (8 heads) | not stated | living room, bedroom, dining room |
| Kallis | wood and metal, light wood backplate | beige and green | H 23 cm, three adjustable spots | warm white 2700-3500 K | kitchen, living room, dining room |
Adjustable spots or large round with several heads?
The backplate with adjustable spots hangs low and sends light where you need it: worktop, reading corner, entrance. The large round with several heads spreads a softer, wider light, with a strong presence on the ceiling. The first is chosen for use, the second for the look of the room. As everything sits flush with the ceiling, the height of the room does not change your comfort of movement.
IP20: why damp rooms are excluded
IP20 means the fixture is protected against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm, but not against water. A ceiling light from this selection therefore goes neither in a bathroom, nor above a shower, nor outdoors. For those rooms, reinforced protection is needed: compare with the ceiling lights designed for bathrooms before deciding.
How to match a wrought iron ceiling light with your decor?
The structure sets the tone: black or metal for an industrial interior, gold for a dressier mood, green or beige with light wood for a Nordic look. The round shape and simple lines work as well with contemporary as with rustic furniture.
Green, black or gold: which structure colour to choose?
Black blends into a white ceiling and lets the furniture speak. Green works with light wood and plants. Gold brings a dressier touch, to be reserved for rooms where there is not already a lot of warm metal. If you hesitate between light tones, look at the light and bright colours, the gold finishes and the gold ceiling lights in the selection.
Wrought iron and wood: how to marry the two materials?
Dark metal and light wood answer each other well: the structure draws, the wood warms. Pick up the wood tone of the fixture on a piece of furniture or a worktop so the whole holds together. For a more contrasted interior, the black and white combinations and the contemporary lines offer leads, as do the more graphic pieces or our whole range of lighting.
How to install and maintain a wrought iron ceiling light?
Cut the power at the breaker, check the strength of the fixing point and the weight of the fixture, then connect according to the manufacturer's instructions. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough: avoid abrasive products on metal as on wood and dust the heads regularly.
Ceiling light or pendant: what it changes under the ceiling
A pendant hangs down and is adjusted in height; a ceiling light sits flush with the ceiling, with no adjustment, which frees the view and the passage. In a moderately sized room or in a hallway, this choice changes everything. For a workspace or an entrance, the flat backplate avoids the effect of a volume hanging above the desk.
Cleaning metal and wood without damaging them
Dust dry, then wipe with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. On wood, no polishing product or scouring sponge; on metal, no steel wool. The glass, present on some models, is cleaned with a microfibre cloth. Regular dusting keeps the fixture's sharp cast shadows, which are its whole character on the ceiling.
Antique or second-hand wrought iron ceiling light: is it a good choice?
Antique appeals for its patina, but the wiring, fixings and warranty are rarely up to standard. Here the selection is new, guaranteed two years, with a standard E27 socket: the bulb and wear parts are easy to replace, without hunting for an unavailable reference. A second-hand piece often arrives without instructions, with wires to redo and missing screws, and a fixing fault costs more than a new fixture. On budget, the price depends mainly on the format and the number of light points rather than the material name alone: the collection grid shows the current price of each model, to compare at equivalent format and socket.
To choose, start from the room and the diameter, then check the socket and the protection rating. The E27 socket remains the simplest to re-equip, and a dimmable model like Halona covers several uses on its own. Once your format is settled, our lighting catalogue lets you compare the other options.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service: you order with peace of mind, and you write to us if any doubt remains about the format before confirming your basket.
Frequently asked questions about wrought iron ceiling lights
Which wrought iron ceiling light for a kitchen?
In the kitchen, favour a compact model with adjustable spots, such as Sylvanor or Kallis: their 23 cm high backplate does not hinder movement and the heads can be aimed at the worktop. Both are in wood and metal, round and with an E27 socket.
Which wrought iron ceiling light for a living room?
For a living room, the large multi-head round Halona comes in 70 cm and 80 cm diameter and accepts a dimmer: handy when the room also serves as a dining room. The Sylvanor and Kallis models with adjustable spots also work, with a more discreet presence on the ceiling.
How to wire a wrought iron ceiling light to the ceiling?
Cut the power at the breaker, check that the fixing point supports the weight of the fixture, then follow the manufacturer's instructions for connection and earthing. A ceiling light sits flush with the ceiling, with no height adjustment, unlike a pendant.
Should you choose a wrought iron ceiling light rather than a chandelier?
A chandelier hangs down and becomes the focal point of the room; a ceiling light stays flush with the ceiling and lights widely, without blocking the view or hindering movement. For a living room, a dining room or a moderately sized kitchen, it leaves more freedom in layout.
Can a wrought iron ceiling light be installed in a bathroom?
No, not in this selection: all models are IP20 rated, which destines them for dry rooms. In a bathroom, humidity and splashes require a fixture with reinforced protection. Keep these ceiling lights for the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom.
