Industrial wood and metal ceiling lights mount flush against the ceiling and combine a wooden bar or base with adjustable steel spotlights. Start by measuring the length you need to cover: a 38 to 53 cm bar for a hallway or small table, 80 to 120 cm above a large table. All models in this selection are IP20, so for dry rooms only.
What are industrial wood and metal ceiling lights?
Industrial wood and metal ceiling lights are fixtures mounted to the ceiling that pair a wooden bar or base with adjustable steel spotlights. They suit a living room, kitchen, dining room or hallway, and replace a pendant when you want to free up the space below. All models in the collection are IP20.
Industrial chandelier or ceiling light: what is the difference?
An industrial chandelier hangs from the ceiling on a chain or rod, while a ceiling light stays flat against the ceiling. That difference matters in any room you walk through: nothing drops into your line of sight, and ceiling height is not reduced. A large industrial chandelier marks the centre of a living room; a bar ceiling light illuminates more discreetly and more widely. The choice comes down to available height and clearance underneath.
A wooden bar and steel spotlights: how the light works
The bar carries the light points, the wood brings a warm tone, and each spotlight turns independently towards a wall, a piece of furniture or a worktop. The Sileno ceiling light works on this principle with a wooden base and two adjustable spotlights, while the Ferra ceiling light takes the same approach in green. To widen the comparison, browse the full range of wood and metal ceiling lights.
Which room suits an industrial wood and metal ceiling light?
A wood and metal ceiling light suits a living room, kitchen, dining room, bedroom or hallway. The choice depends mainly on the area to light: a long bar above a table or island, a compact format in a hallway. All models in the collection are IP20, so for dry rooms only.
How to light a wooden table when you eat without a tablecloth?
Above a raw wood table, an 80 to 120 cm bar with spotlights aimed at the surface gives a warm, matte light with no glare on the plates. The Serlinica ceiling light in oak, with its 80 cm bar and four spotlights, fits this use, and its 120 cm version, the 120 cm Silvus wooden bar, covers a large gathering. For a dining room open to the living room, see also industrial style in the living room.
Hallway, entrance and bedroom: which small formats to choose
In a hallway or entrance, a compact 6 x 6 cm block is enough to light the way without crowding the view: the Cubis ceiling light is an example. In a bedroom, a two spotlight short bar version keeps light out of your eyes. To narrow it down, compare a ceiling light for the bedroom and wooden kitchen lighting depending on the room.
Which ceiling light format to choose for each room?
Format is chosen by the length to cover. A short 38 cm bar is enough for a corner or hallway, an 80 to 120 cm bar covers a large table, and a 6 x 6 cm block fits a small entrance. The number of spotlights follows the same logic.
Short bars and long bars: reading the dimensions
Ceiling light dimensions read in this order: length, depth, height. A 15 x 89 x 14 cm bar is therefore 89 cm long and drops 14 cm from the ceiling, leaving clearance underneath. A row of oak spotlights at 5 x 120 x 20 cm hangs a little lower and suits rooms with good height. Look at wooden pieces with detailed design if design matters as much as measurements.
Two, four or six light points: what spacing on the ceiling
Two spotlights suit a small table or desk, four spotlights a medium table, six spotlights a large table. The spacing between spotlights is fixed by the bar: it cannot be adjusted. A 4 spotlight ceiling light on a wooden bar like the Tesranessa, in steel and black wood, covers a table of six without adding more sources to the ceiling.
| Format | Dimensions (L x W x H) | Light points | Socket | Recommended room | Example model |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Short bar | 15 x 38 x 14 cm | 2 spotlights | E27 | Bedroom, hallway | Seralia |
| Medium bar | 15 x 53 x 14 cm | 3 spotlights | E27 | Living room, kitchen | Ondranina |
| Wide bar | 15 x 89 x 14 cm | 4 spotlights | E27 | Living room, dining room | Tesranessa |
| LED bar 2 spotlights | 30 x 46 x 17.5 cm | 2 spotlights | GU10 | Living room, bedroom | Ovion |
| Row of 4 oak spotlights | 5 x 80 x 20 cm | 4 spotlights | GU10 | Dining room | Serlinica |
| Row of 6 oak spotlights | 5 x 120 x 20 cm | 6 spotlights | GU10 | Large table | Silvus |
Which socket to choose between GU10 and E27?
The collection uses two sockets. Ceiling lights with a GU10 socket are rated at 10 W, with adjustable spotlights fitted with GU10 bulbs. E27 models are rated at 15 W or 40 W and take E27 bulbs. The choice depends mainly on how easy it is to replace a bulb.
GU10: models rated at 10 W
The GU10 socket takes pin bulbs, common and easy to find in warm white. A minority of models (about one in five) is dimmable, which lets you lower the intensity in the evening. The Mirranara ceiling light in white and black, with its four adjustable spotlights on a bar, illustrates this family. To see all these references, head to LED wooden ceiling lights.
E27: replaceable bulbs, from 15 W to 40 W
The E27 socket takes a screw bulb that you replace without changing the fixture. Models in the collection are rated at 15 W or 40 W depending on the reference. A black ceiling light with two spotlights on a wooden bar like the Seralia, or its three spotlight version the Ondranina ceiling light, belong to this family.
| Model | Material | Socket | Rated wattage | Dimmer | Colour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sileno | Wood and metal | E27 | 40 W | Not stated | Anthracite and black |
| Zenina | Metal | E27 | 40 W max | Not stated | Beige, bronze and gold |
| Ferra | Wood and metal | E27 | 40 W | Not stated | Green |
| Seralia | Steel and wood | E27 | 15 W | Yes | Black |
| Ovion | Steel and wood | GU10 | 10 W | Yes | White and black |
| Serlinica | Wood (oak) | GU10 | 10 W | Not stated | Brown |
What light does a wood and metal ceiling light give?
The spotlights are adjustable: you turn them towards a wall, a worktop or a piece of furniture rather than the centre of the room. Some models are dimmable, useful for lowering the intensity in the evening. Where colour temperature is given, it is warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K.
Aiming spotlights at a worktop or a wall
In a kitchen, tilt the spotlights towards the worktop rather than the floor, to avoid the shadow of the person cooking. In a living room, turn them towards a wall or a bookcase: the light bounces and illuminates without glare. In a hallway, better to align them towards the floor for a clear path. This adjustment is made once, then stays put.
The dimmer, when a room is used by day and by night
A dimmable ceiling light lets you keep bright light for working and lower it for a meal or a film. That is useful in a living room or dining room whose use changes through the day. The relevant models are grouped in dimmable models, to compare with the modern LED selection if looks matter as much as function.
How to match this ceiling light with the rest of the room?
Natural brown wood dominates the collection, followed by black, white, beige and green. These tones work with a modern, minimalist or Scandinavian interior. A simple rule: match the base to the wood tone of your furniture, or choose black for a sharp contrast against a pale ceiling.
Natural wood, black, white: which tone for which interior
A pale oak pairs with wooden furniture and beige walls: it is the most versatile choice, illustrated by the Silvus oak ceiling light. A wood and black ceiling light stands out against a white ceiling and follows a kitchen with black handles. White, meanwhile, blends into the ceiling, as seen in the white versions. For a softer contrast, look at the gold details, such as the Zenina ceiling light with its beige and bronze shade.
With modern, minimalist or Scandinavian decor
A minimalist interior calls for a simple line: a slim bar, two or four spotlights, little visible material. Scandinavian style accepts pale wood and soft light, found in the Scandinavian spirit. For a bolder result, modern black finishes and black metal variants extend the same vocabulary.
How to install and maintain a wood and metal ceiling light?
All models are IP20: they mount to the ceiling of a dry room and are not suitable for a bathroom. Installation uses the existing ceiling fixing, with the power supply arriving at the centre. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough on wood and steel.
What IP20 means for a damp room
An IP20 rating means the fixture is protected against solid objects over 12.5 mm, but not against water. In other words, no splashes or direct steam: bathrooms, outdoors and very damp rooms are out. In a kitchen, keep the fixture away from the sink and hob, outside the splash zone. For those rooms, you need another type of fixture with a higher protection rating.
Cleaning wood and steel day to day
To maintain a wooden ceiling light, regular dusting with a soft or slightly damp cloth is enough. Do not strip or sand the original finish, which protects the material. For steel, avoid abrasive products and simply wipe. Switch off the power at the breaker before any work on the ceiling fixing or a bulb.
Why choose Designix for your ceiling light?
The selection covers several price levels and two warranty periods, 2 years or 5 years depending on the model. Designix supports the order with secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and customer service. An advisor can help you choose the format for your room.
2 year or 5 year warranty depending on the model
Not all references are covered the same way: part of the selection carries a 2 year warranty, the rest 5 years. This difference appears on each product page, to read before confirming the basket. It matters when choosing between two similar models, especially for a ceiling fixture you keep for several years.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and customer service
Payment is secure, delivery is tracked, and returns are possible. If any doubt remains about bar length or socket type, Designix customer service answers before you order. To place this collection within the wider catalogue, start from the Designix lighting catalogue; to compare with other materials, see all metal models or industrial LED ceiling lights. And if you would rather have a hanging piece, all our home lighting also includes pendant formats.
Frequently asked questions
Can a wood and metal ceiling light be installed in a bathroom?
No. All models in this collection carry an IP20 rating, intended for dry rooms. In a bathroom, you need a fixture with a higher protection rating, suited to water splashes. For a damp room, better to choose another type of fixture.
Should you strip or remove the varnish from a wooden ceiling light?
No, never strip a wooden ceiling light: the original finish protects the material and a stripping product would damage the surface. Regular dusting with a soft or slightly damp cloth is enough to keep the wood clean, without rubbing the steel.
How many spotlights for a dining room ceiling light?
It depends on the length of the table: a two spotlight bar suits a small table, three or four spotlights cover a medium table, and a row of six spotlights lights a large table. Model dimensions are given in centimetres on each product page.
How do you fit a large industrial chandelier into a living room?
For a large industrial chandelier, look at the wide formats in the collection, such as an 89 to 96 cm bar or a 120 cm row, aligned with the axis of the sofa or coffee table. In a small living room, a two spotlight format remains easier to read.
How do you light a wooden table when you eat without a tablecloth?
Install a long bar ceiling light, 80 to 120 cm, above the table, with adjustable spotlights casting light down onto the wood. Raw wood reflects a warm light, which makes the room softer than light aimed at the diners.
