First count the room and the wall: a wireless wall sconce is fitted where there is no cable, in a hallway, bedroom, living room, entrance or along a staircase. The Designix selection brings together LED models in warm white 2700 to 3500 K, from plastic to wood and metal, in IP20 for dry interiors and up to IP65 outdoors, to be chosen by format, material and switch-on mode.

What light does a wireless wall sconce give?

Some models in this selection light in warm white LED, between 2700 and 3500 K, the shade that stays comfortable in a hallway as in a bedroom. The stated wattages range from 1.3 W to 10 W depending on the reference, and some of the models accept a dimmer.

Warm white 2700 to 3500 K: what it changes in the evening

This colour temperature range leans towards amber: in the evening, it lights a wall without straining the eye, where a cold white of 5000 K hardens faces and tires you at the end of the day. In a hallway, you switch it on for a few minutes to walk through; in a bedroom, the same light lets the eye settle for sleep. The result also varies with the diffuser: a sconce with a luminous face such as the Elitorina lights wide and flat, a model with two glass globes such as the Biglobis concentrates the light in two points.

Dimmer or touch switch: which control to choose?

The control decides the real use. A touch model such as the Nertoristo switches on with one hand, with no remote switch. A dimmer model lets you lower the intensity in the evening: this is the case with the Puntua chrome and the portable sconces with a wall button. If dimming matters to you, browse the dimmer references. Only one model in the selection works with a GU10 base, the Orena flexible-arm sconce: the bulb can be replaced, and the result changes with it.

Where to place a wall sconce?

A wall sconce is used to light a passage or to replace a bedside lamp. In this selection, the models are most often placed in a hallway, bedroom and living room, also in an entrance and along a staircase, to accompany movement without lighting the whole room.

Living room wall sconces: which side of the sofa?

In the living room, you light the sides rather than the centre: a sconce above each end of the sofa, or a single one near the reading armchair, replaces a table lamp. A coloured tube such as the Lordaneno takes on the decorative role, a glass sconce stays more discreet. The wall, its length and the style of the furniture dictate the format. To go further, see the living room wall sconces and, for wet rooms, the models for toilets.

Staircase wall sconces: lighting the steps without glare

On a staircase, you place them on the wall that runs alongside the climb, at hand height, repeating a small module or placing one at each landing. The grazing light marks the nose of the steps without dazzling the person coming down. Compact models of 7 to 12 cm suit this well; find them in the staircase sconces.

Wireless wall sconce or wired wall sconce: which to choose?

A wired sconce needs an electrical supply at the wall, a wireless one is fitted where there is no cable and recharges or moves depending on the model. In an old home, a rental or on a solid wall without a socket, the wireless version avoids work, at the cost of managing battery life.

Wired wall sconce in a bedroom: when wireless takes over

The wired one keeps an advantage: no recharging, instant switch-on, stable intensity. It does however mean running a line to the right place, which is not always possible without chasing the wall. The wireless one takes over when the bed is moved, when the wall is stone or when the nearest socket is at the other end of the room. Compare the two approaches in the bedroom wall sconces.

Fitting a wireless sconce in a rented home

When renting, wall fixing without work changes everything: one screw or one bracket, no line to redo, and the sconce goes with you when you move. Portable battery models, with a wall button or a joint, can even be unhooked to serve as a table lamp. Browse the rechargeable wireless wall sconces and the cordless LED models for this type of installation.

Which style of wireless wall sconce to adopt at home?

The selection runs from contemporary to minimalist, with industrial and boho. Woven wood or rope bring warmth, steel and aluminium play the industrial card in white, bronze, grey or black, and the small square sconces of 8 x 8 x 8 cm stay discreet in a hallway.

Wooden wireless wall sconces: rope, rattan and cage

Wood works the light through transparency: a boho cage such as the Cadmira projects a pattern onto the wall, a woven rattan sconce such as the Valtoreno softens a corner. These materials age well provided they stay dry or are designed for outdoors. The design wood range also covers bedrooms, where the warmth of the material compensates for accent lighting.

Black, white, bronze or chrome: matching the wall

Black dominates the selection, followed by white, then bronze, grey and chrome. On a light wall, black draws the silhouette of the sconce; on a dark wall, bronze or chrome make it stand out. A portable sconce in steel and aluminium such as the One+ or the Valnorara comes in several finishes, which leaves the choice at the time of installation. See the black metal finishes.

Indoor or outdoor: which IP rating to choose?

In a dry room such as a hallway, bedroom or living room, an IP20 rating is enough. Near an open window, under a canopy or on a terrace, you need a waterproof sconce: IP54 for the woven wood and rope models, IP65 for the cubic and solar sconces usable outdoors.

IP65 solar wall sconce: for a wall without electricity

Solar solves isolated walls: a white cube such as the Aritorina or the long Ondtoreno sconce, at 16 x 80 cm, are fitted on a gable, a shed or a terrace wall without a supply. They charge during the day and switch on in the evening, which suits signal lighting more than task lighting. The wall must stay exposed to the sun for part of the day.

IP20, IP54, IP65: the difference in plain terms

IP20 protects against fingers, not water: dry interior only. IP54 resists splashes, which covers a sheltered terrace or a wall near a door. IP65 withstands water jets, so direct rain. For a damp room or an exposed exterior, look for the waterproof outdoor sconces or the bathroom models.

What size and wattage for your wall?

The format is chosen first on the space available: from 7.2 cm for a round one and 8 x 8 x 8 cm for the square one, up to 16 x 80 cm for a long version. The wattage ranges from 1.3 W to 10 W: the small values are enough for a hallway, the higher ones on a large living room wall.

Small module or large panel: reading the dimensions

A module under 10 cm dresses a narrow wall without cluttering it, while a long panel such as the Ondtoreno fills a large bare wall. In between, the Orena flexible-arm sconce measures 16 cm high and projects 30 cm from the wall, which lets you direct the light towards a surface rather than the wall itself. Measure the clear height between the floor and the bottom of the sconce before drilling: the fitting should not end up at shoulder height in a passage.

How many sconces in a hallway or on a staircase?

Allow one sconce every 1.50 to 2 metres along a narrow hallway, and one per landing or one every three or four steps on a staircase, generally at hand height. It is better to spread several weak sources than a single strong one: the eye is not looking for a bright point but for a lit path. For a modern-style hallway, group modules of the same model.

Once the format is chosen, order the quantity in the modern wall sconces for hallways, or pick a design from all our design LED sconces.

How to install and maintain a wireless wall sconce?

Installation is limited to wall fixing: mark the height, fix the bracket, fit the sconce. A soft cloth is enough for maintenance, with no abrasive product on wood, steel or chrome, and a model installed outdoors needs cleaning more often.

What wall fixing really involves

Three steps: mark the height in pencil, drill the bracket, screw on the sconce. A level placed on the edge avoids the two-millimetre slope you only see afterwards. Portable battery models need no connection, which makes installation reversible. For a bathroom or outdoor sconce, check the IP rating before drilling, and keep the reference to hand.

Caring for wood, steel and chrome

Woven wood is dusted with a dry cloth, never a wet one. Steel and aluminium are cleaned with warm water, then dried to avoid marks; chrome is polished with a soft cloth, without abrasive powder. A sconce placed outdoors is washed again each season, especially after the pollen period. The warranty period is stated on each product page, to be checked before purchase.

Buying a wireless wall sconce: payment, delivery and returns

The choice is made on the product page: format, material, colour, IP rating, colour temperature and control are detailed there. At Designix, payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns are provided for and customer service answers questions about the reference to choose.

Secure payment and tracked delivery

The order is protected and the parcel is tracked all the way to you, which matters for a light with glass or a globe, more fragile in transit. Note the exact reference before ordering: two sconces of the same style may differ in format or finish. Returns remain possible if the model does not suit the wall.

Unsure about the reference? Designix customer service

Height, IP rating, switch-on mode, material: Designix customer service settles these questions before purchase and avoids a wrong reference. To compare the families before choosing, open all Designix lighting or browse our lighting catalogue by use.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find a rechargeable wireless wall sconce?

In the Designix collections: the wireless wall sconces and their rechargeable selection are chosen by room, material and IP rating. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany the order, and the product page details the format as well as the switch-on mode.

Which wireless wall sconce for an adult bedroom?

In a bedroom, you look for soft light and a compact format: round or square sconces in warm white 2700 to 3500 K, in IP20, placed on either side of the bed. Wood, white and taupe blend into the decor, and some references accept a dimmer.

Can a wireless wall sconce replace a wired wall sconce?

Yes, as soon as there is no electrical supply in the right place. The wired version requires a supply at the wall, the wireless one is fitted where there is no cable. The choice then depends on the room, the IP rating and the desired control, detailed on each product page.

Where to install wall sconces on a staircase?

The staircase is one of the most frequently cited rooms for this selection: the sconce is placed on the wall that runs alongside the climb, at hand height, possibly staggered or at each landing, to light the steps without glare. Small compact LED modules suit this well.

Are there high-end design wireless wall sconces?

Yes: the selection includes refined finishes, such as the oval chrome sconce, the portable steel and aluminium sconces with a spherical joint or the two-glass-globe model. The level of quality can be read in the material, the finish and the warranty stated on the product page.

How to take inspiration from art deco wall sconces in a wireless version?

Art deco plays with geometry, metal and bronze or chrome shades: in this selection, the round, tube or ball sconces, in a bronze, grey or chrome finish, take up its codes. Place them in pairs, symmetrically on a dark wall, to recapture that spirit.

Can a wireless wall sconce be put in a bathroom or outdoors?

Yes, provided you choose a waterproof model: sconces in woven wood, rope or rattan are IP54, the cubic sconces and solar models are IP65, usable outdoors. In a dry room, IP20 is enough. The product page states the rating and the material.

Is there a wireless wall sconce with a remote control?

The control varies by reference: some sconces are operated by touch, others accept a dimmer. The switch-on mode, the presence of a sensor or a remote control are stated on the product page, to be checked before purchase in order to choose the right model.
