Count on a walnut pendant light when you are looking for warm light and a brown grain that structures the room. This collection brings together three shapes: the Japanese-inspired wood and glass block, the cylindrical tube with a black textile cable and the spherical globes spread over several light points. Walnut is combined with glass, metal or bamboo.
What is walnut wood, and why choose it for a pendant light?
Walnut is a hardwood with brown grain and a warm tone, used in cabinetmaking and decoration. On a pendant light, it gives back an amber light and structures the room. In this collection, it is combined with glass, metal or bamboo, with an E14 socket or an integrated LED.
Walnut, a hardwood with brown grain
The grain of walnut draws brown lines of varying darkness, and its matte surface absorbs light instead of reflecting it in a hard glare. That is what sets it apart from polished metal or a glossy lampshade. All the models in the collection show this brown colour, sometimes lifted with white, black or gold on the metal parts.
What a walnut pendant light changes in a room
Hung low, it creates an island of light above a specific surface rather than general lighting. The wood softens the cold tones of a grey or white wall and warms up a very mineral interior. To compare the families of light fixtures, browse our lighting collection, where wood sits alongside other materials.
Which walnut pendant light for a living room?
In a living room, a walnut pendant light is placed above the coffee table or a reading corner, low enough to create an island of light. Models with several globes light a large room, single-head versions are enough for a smaller surface. The brown wood softens the light.
Walnut living room pendant light: the main living space
The living room is one of the best-covered rooms, alongside the kitchen: Japanese-inspired and globe models are intended for it. The wood pendant light with spherical globes spreads five light points along a line, which suits a large coffee table or a corner sofa. A single head is enough above an armchair. Find more ideas in our living room pendant lights.
Walnut and black, or walnut and beige: which mood?
Black underlines the lines and gives a graphic look, white or beige lets the wood speak for itself. The sharpest contrast comes from the black textile cable of the cylindrical tube. For a bright and soft room, look instead at the design pieces for the living room with white accents.
How to light a dining room or kitchen with a walnut pendant light?
Above a table or an island, the pendant light comes down close to the surface to be lit. A model with several globes suits a large table, a cylindrical tube suits a narrow or linear surface. Walnut warms the light, which matters in a room where you spend time.
Walnut kitchen pendant light: above the worktop
Two models in the collection are intended for the kitchen. Above an island, a single well-centred light point is better than several small scattered sources. The 30 cm wide tube stays discreet over a linear surface. See also our kitchen pendant lights.
Walnut dining room pendant light: centring the light on the table
The dining room is the room common to all models. The wood tube pendant light with black textile cable, with integrated LED, lights a narrow surface with no bulb to plan for. For a large table, the globes spread the light along the whole length. Other formats are gathered in our dining room lights.
| Room | What it should bring | Suitable shape | Light points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Warm light above the relaxation corner | Wood and glass block, or globes | 1 or 5 |
| Dining room | Light centred on the table | Cylindrical tube or globes | 1 or 5 |
| Kitchen | Light on the island or the worktop | One head or several globes | 1 or 5 |
| Bedroom | Soft light, without glare | A single head | 1 |
| Office | Extra light above the worktop | A single head | 1 |
Which walnut pendant light for a bedroom?
In a bedroom, a walnut pendant light is placed in the centre of the room or on either side of the bed. The brown wood gives a warm light, less harsh than a bare metal lampshade. A single-head model stays discreet above a bedside table.
Walnut bedroom pendant light: in the centre or near the bed
A bedroom needs less light than a living room: a single point placed in the centre, or two small pendant lights on each side of the bed, is enough. The cable is adjusted to bring the source down close to the surface to be lit. Other models are gathered in our bedroom pendant lights.
Design bedroom pendant light: a model that stays discreet
Choose a simple shape and a brown or white shade, without piling up materials. A single head of about 20 cm is easily overlooked above a bedside table. For a more contemporary look, compare with the modern bedroom pendant lights.
Walnut and glass, walnut and brass: which pairings to choose?
Walnut is combined with glass on several models, with metal for golden reflections and with bamboo for a natural contrast. Glass lightens the silhouette and lets light through, metal structures the shape. One accent material is enough: beyond that, the piece becomes cluttered.
Walnut and glass pendant light: the most common pairing
On the Japanese-style walnut and glass pendant light, the glass lets you see the bulb and diffuses a soft light. The whole measures 20.5 cm long, 9.3 cm deep and 19 cm high, with a cable adjustable up to 160 cm. Other references are visible in our glass pendant lights.
Walnut and brass pendant light: the gold finishes
The gold colour appears on the metal parts of the cylindrical tube and on its light when switched on, in yellow. On brown wood, this warm reflection stays discreet. Browse the gold finishes and the glass pendant light fixtures to compare the looks. Neither stone nor travertine appears in this collection.
Original pendant light: which shape to stand out from the standard model?
To stand out from the standard light fixture, the collection plays on two shapes: the cylindrical tube, long and thin, and the spherical globes spread over several light points. Walnut signs the whole and gives an immediate identity. The choice depends above all on the surface to be lit.
Tree pendant light: several globes on the same line
The five globes of the Xala pendant light are spread over 100, 80 and 120 cm, in glass and bamboo. The result evokes a branch laden with luminous fruit, without gratuitous spectacle. These silhouettes also appear in our design pieces.
Modern pendant light with a cylindrical tube: the most understated silhouette
The tube, 30 cm by 4.7 cm in diameter, slips above a narrow surface and pairs with the black textile cable. Its integrated LED simplifies installation. For other contemporary lines, see the modern pendant lights.
| Model | Materials | Socket and power | Dimensions | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Japanese-inspired walnut and glass pendant light | Wood, glass | E14, bulb to choose, dimmable | L 20.5 x D 9.3 x H 19 cm, cable up to 160 cm | Living room, kitchen, dining room, office |
| Cylindrical tube pendant light with black textile cable | Wood, metal | Integrated LED | 30 x 4.7 cm | Dining room |
| Pendant light with spherical globes | Wood, glass, bamboo | E14, bulb to choose | 100, 80 and 120 cm | Living room, kitchen, dining room |
How to install and care for a walnut pendant light?
The height is adjusted with the cable, up to 160 cm on the wood and glass model, which covers high ceilings. The E14 socket models expect a bulb of your choice, the integrated LED versions do not need one. One model accepts a dimmer.
At what height should a pendant light hang above the table?
In general, the light fixture is brought down between 70 and 85 cm above the tabletop, depending on the height of the guests and the size of the room. On a high ceiling, the adjustable cable adds length without shortening the silhouette. All the formats are gathered in all pendant lights.
E14 socket, integrated LED and dimmer: what to plan for
The E14 socket lets you choose the bulb, and therefore the colour temperature: around 2700 to 3000 K for a warm look. The integrated LED avoids this step. The dimmer, possible on one model, lets you lower the intensity in the evening. Other solutions are listed in the pendant light fixtures for the home.
For care, a soft cloth is enough to remove dust on the wood as well as the glass; avoid wet products on the wood part.
Walnut pendant light: which mistakes to avoid before buying?
Two checks before buying: the protection rating and the footprint. The pendant lights in this collection are rated IP20, so for dry rooms; a bathroom requires a higher rating, such as IP44. Then measure the table or island to be lit and the available height.
Check the protection rating before a damp room
IP20 means the light fixture is not protected against water splashes: dry kitchen, living room, bedroom and office are suitable, a bathroom is not. For a damp room, aim for a rating such as IP44. This constraint applies to most of the LED pendant lights in the catalogue.
Measure the room and the ceiling height before choosing
Note the length of the surface to be lit and the height between the floor and the ceiling. A large tabletop calls for several light points, a narrow surface for a single head. The adjustable cable covers high ceilings, but not a volume too large for a single source. Simple formats are gathered among the affordable models.
All the walnut pendant lights in the collection come with a two-year guarantee and remain covered by secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service. Browse all pendant lights to compare the shapes before confirming your choice.
Frequently asked questions
What is walnut wood?
Walnut is a hardwood, recognisable by its brown grain of varying darkness and its warm tone. In cabinetmaking, it is used for furniture and decorative objects. On a pendant light, its matte surface absorbs light and reflects it in amber tones.
Can a walnut pendant light be put in a bathroom?
The walnut pendant lights in this collection are rated IP20: they are intended for dry rooms. In a bathroom, a model with a higher protection rating, such as IP44, is better, especially near the shower, bathtub or sink.
How to hang an XXL pendant light under a high ceiling?
Adjustment is done with the cable: the Japanese-inspired wood and glass pendant light comes down to 160 cm, which covers good ceiling heights. For a large volume, it is lowered to the height of use above the table.
Is a special bulb needed for a walnut pendant light?
It depends on the model. Pendant lights with an E14 socket let you choose the bulb, which allows you to adjust the intensity and colour temperature. Integrated LED versions do not need a bulb and plug in directly.
How to choose an original pendant light?
First look at the shape: a long, thin cylindrical tube, or several spherical globes spread along the same line. Walnut wood signs the whole and avoids the catalogue effect. The number of light points then depends on the surface to be lit.
