A swing arm wall light is chosen first for its reach: from 115 to 180 cm depending on the model, the arm extends the shade over a sofa, a table or a bed without going through the ceiling. All the references in this selection use E27 bulbs or integrated LED, with warm white light 2700-3500K, and are installed in dry interiors.
What is a swing arm wall light?
A swing arm wall light is a wall fixture whose arm extends the light far from the wall, from 115 to 180 cm depending on the model. The shade ends up above a table, a sofa or a bed without drilling into the ceiling. E27 socket, warm white light, IP20 for interiors.
Swing arm wall light: an arm that extends the light
The base stays against the wall, the arm goes out at an angle then comes back down: the source moves away from the wall instead of grazing it. This offset replaces a pendant light when the ceiling is not suitable (beam, height, rental). You will find the same principle on all our Designix luminaires, from ceiling light to floor lamp.
Swing arm wall light or classic wall light: what is the difference for your room?
A classic wall light illuminates the wall, as a halo or accent. The swing arm wall light illuminates a floor area, a table or a reading corner, because the light falls from above. For a bedroom or living room lacking light without a ceiling point, it is designer wall light and wall lamp that does the work of a pendant light.
What reach to choose for a swing arm wall light?
The reach is chosen according to the surface to be lit: 115 to 145 cm for a sofa or reading corner, 130 to 175 cm for a dining table. Models with an articulated arm allow the reach to be adjusted after installation, which simplifies adjustment above the furniture.
| Model | Reach / arm | Shade | Material | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vélane | Arm 90+30 cm, reach 120-150 cm | Ø 60 cm H 30 cm | Metal and fabric | Living room, bedroom, dining room |
| Cendrosa | Arm 90+30 cm, reach 115-145 cm | Ø 50 cm H 20 cm | Steel and velvet | Living room, bedroom, office |
| Osiera | Reach 130-175 cm, H 145 cm | Ø 30 cm | Bamboo and metal | Living room, bedroom |
| Tikar | Arched arm | Ø 40 cm | Bamboo and metal | Living room, bedroom, dining room |
| Articula | Reach 115-145 cm, drop 40 cm | Ø 50 cm H 20 cm | Steel and velvet | Living room, bedroom |
| Liséa | Arc 130-175 cm, H 145 cm | Ø 30 cm | Steel and linen | Living room, bedroom, office |
Reach 115-145 cm or 130-175 cm: which for your room?
Measure from the wall to the plumb line of the furniture: a sofa often requires 115 to 145 cm, a dining table 130 to 175 cm to cover the plate. If you hesitate between the two, the articulated arm can be adjusted after installation. For exclusive use above the table, see light above the table.
At what height should the shade and arm be placed?
Generally, the shade is placed around 60 to 75 cm above a worktop or table, and 30 to 40 cm above an armrest for reading. The arm, however, must remain free: check its drop before drilling.
Which swing arm wall light for which room?
For a living room, a reach of 115 to 145 cm covers a sofa or coffee table; in a bedroom, the arm is placed above the bed for reading. In a dining room, aim for 130 to 175 cm, and in an office a directional warm white light. A hallway is satisfied with a compact model.
Swing arm wall light for living room or dining room
In the living room, living room lighting benefits from coming down from the wall: the articulated arm wall light with pleated white shade covers 120 to 150 cm with a Ø 60 cm shade. A more graphic interior will find modern living room wall light in the same proportions.
Swing arm wall light for bedroom and office corner
In a bedroom, the bedroom wall lamp replaces the bedside lamp and frees the nightstand. For an office corner, an arc of 130 to 175 cm with a Ø 30 cm shade, like the Liséa in steel and linen, provides a stable warm white light. A hallway or staircase is treated with short formats: hallway wall light and staircase wall light.
E27 socket, LED, dimmer: what to look at before choosing?
Most models accept an E27 bulb up to 40W max: you choose the intensity and colour of the bulb. Some wall lights have an integrated LED of 9 to 10W, not replaceable. All emit a warm white of 2700 to 3500K, and half are dimmer compatible.
| Model | Socket | Power | Temperature | IP | Dimmer |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vélane | E27 | 9W | Warm white 2700-3500K | IP20 | Not specified |
| Pernilla | LED | 10W | Warm white 2700-3500K | IP20 | Yes |
| Cendrosa | E27 | 40W max | Warm white 2700-3500K | IP20 | Yes |
| Osiera | E27 | 40W | Warm white 2700-3500K | IP20 | Yes |
| Liséa | E27 | 40W max | Warm white 2700-3500K | IP20 | Yes |
| Oryn | E27 | Not specified | Not specified | IP45 | Not specified |
E27 socket: which bulb to plan for?
The E27 socket leaves the choice: a filament bulb for a warm and sharp light, or a more diffuse bulb that does not mark shadows. The selection generally accepts up to 40W max, which largely covers wall use. The integrated LED models are thinner but the intensity is fixed at the factory.
Warm white 2700-3500K and dimmer compatibility
Around 2700K, the light leans towards amber, ideal in a bedroom; towards 3500K, it remains warm but more neutral, practical in an office. Half of the models accept a dimmer: check the product sheet before pairing the wall light with a dimmer switch. The rest of the indoor range is visible on indoor wall light.
How to get a powerful wall light in a living room?
A powerful wall light depends on the accepted power and orientation: an E27 socket accepting up to 40W max leaves the choice of bulb, and an articulated arm directs the flow towards the useful area. A wide shade of 50 to 60 cm lights more broadly above a sofa.
Powerful LED wall light or E27 bulb: which choice?
The integrated LED fixes the intensity once and for all, around 9 to 10W in this selection. The E27 socket keeps control: you fit the bulb you want, and you change it if usage evolves. For a living room that also serves as an office corner, the second choice remains the most flexible.
Direct the flow towards the useful area
An articulated arm is adjusted after installation: it is tilted towards the sofa, coffee table or wall, without dismantling the luminaire. A fixed arm requires the base to be positioned correctly from the start. The metal arms offer the most rigidity on large reaches.
Original wall light, bohemian chic or country chic: which styles?
Style comes through the shade material and the colour of the arm: woven bamboo for a bohemian look, linen or velvet for a country chic spirit, black metal or brushed steel for a contemporary look. These wall lights match Nordic and minimalist interiors as well as more busy atmospheres.
Woven bamboo, cork, linen and velvet: the effect by material
Woven bamboo filters the light and projects a pattern on the wall: the black woven bamboo version plays this role on a long arm. Cork gives a matte and warm effect, linen a soft white, velvet a deep colour. A white wall light remains discreet in a small room.
Black, silver, gold or green: the colour of the arm and shade
Black clearly dominates the selection, often combined with beige or white. Silver and brushed steel lean towards minimalism, in the style of modern wall light. Gold accents or the black finish change everything on the same model, depending on the wall that receives them.
How to install a swing arm wall light?
The wall light is fixed to the wall like a classic wall light, but its arm must remain free: plan the cable outlet at the height of the base and check the bulk of the arm before drilling. Articulated models are adjusted after installation, without dismantling the luminaire.
Swing arm wall light with switch: what to plan for
The wall lights in this selection connect to the wall circuit and are controlled from the existing switch; no product sheet mentions an integrated switch. For separate control, the E27 socket bulb remains the element to choose, for example a connected bulb.
Orient the arm and maintain the shade
Adjust the arm once the power is off, then check that the shade does not touch the wall or furniture. Fabric or linen is dusted with a soft cloth, woven bamboo with a brush. Avoid liquid products on metal or cork.
Which wall light for outdoor, a bathroom or designer WC?
Indoors, the models are IP20: living room, bedroom, dining room, hallway. For a damp room, a sheltered outdoor area or bathroom use, aim for IP45, the only protection rating in the selection suitable for water splashes.
IP20 or IP45: reading the protection rating
IP20 protects against fingers and thick dust, nothing more: it is a dry room luminaire. IP45 withstands splashes, so a bathroom or covered outdoor area, like the IP45 outdoor luminaire. For a water room, compare with bathroom wall light.
Toilet wall light and designer WC
In a WC, a cylindrical shade of Ø 30 cm fits on a narrow wall and diffuses a warm white that is not aggressive; arc models of 130 to 175 cm are reserved for large rooms. A kitchen requires the same compactness, with a flow directed towards the worktop: see kitchen wall light.
Frequently asked questions
What are the trends for wall lights in 2026?
The models in this selection lean towards woven bamboo, cork, linen and velvet, with increasingly long and articulated arms to replace a pendant light. Arc and ball shapes dominate, on black or silver bases, with warm white lighting from 2700 to 3500K and dimmer compatibility on half of the models.
Which swing arm wall light to choose for a living room?
In a living room, a reach of 115 to 145 cm places the shade above the sofa or a coffee table. A shade of 50 to 60 cm covers a larger surface, and an articulated arm allows the orientation to be adjusted after installation. The E27 socket lets you choose the bulb.
What is a bohemian chic wall light?
A bohemian chic wall light combines a natural shade, woven bamboo or cork, with a black or arched arm. The effect remains soft thanks to the warm white light of 2700 to 3500K, and round or ball shapes bring a warm touch without overloading the wall.
Which wall light for a designer toilet or WC?
In a WC, a compact wall light with a cylindrical shade of Ø 30 cm fits on a narrow wall and diffuses a warm white that is not aggressive. If the room is damp or close to a water point, go for the IP45 model, the other models in the selection being IP20.
Which wall light for a staircase?
A staircase calls for little reach and a light that does not catch the eyes: a cylindrical shade of Ø 30 cm in warm white is suitable, with an E27 socket up to 40W max depending on the model. The wall-mounted LED version of the collection covers this type of use.
