An adjustable wall light mounts on the wall and is adjusted by hand: the arm or swivel joint directs the beam onto a book, a worktop or a painting without moving the furniture below. The collection brings together short-arm, offset-arm and arched models in metal, velvet, linen, bamboo or raffia, mostly with an E27 socket and a few GU10, G9 and integrated LED versions.

What is an adjustable wall light and what light does it give?

An adjustable wall light is a wall fixture whose arm or swivel joint is adjusted by hand: you direct the beam onto a book, a worktop or a painting without moving the furniture below. It lights in warm white (2700 to 3500 K) in most models, with an E27 or GU10 socket or an integrated LED.

Designer adjustable wall light: what the arm changes in the room

The arm extends, the swivel joint pivots, the light follows the hand instead of imposing a fixed point. A short arm stays close to the wall, a long arm brings the beam above a sofa or a table, like the Ziro wall light and its adjustable arm in metal and brass. The shape of the shade matters just as much: a round one diffuses widely, a tube draws a clean line, an arch carries far. You will find these families in all the wall lights, from the compact size to the large offset arm.

E27, GU10 or integrated LED socket: what decides the beam

The E27 socket lets you choose the bulb, and therefore the intensity and the colour tone. The GU10 gives a directed beam and a slimmer shape. The integrated LED removes the bulb to be changed and is replaced as a whole unit. The integrated LED models sometimes offer a neutral white (3500 to 4500 K), cooler than a warm white: keep it for a desk or a hallway.

Sockets, temperatures and dimmer in the collection
Socket or technology Light temperature Stated power Dimmer What this means
E27 Warm white 2700 - 3500 K Up to 40 W depending on the model Common You choose the bulb and its intensity
GU10 Warm white 2700 - 3500 K 8 W depending on the model Depending on the model Directed beam, compact size
Integrated LED Warm white or neutral white 3500 - 4500 K 3 W, 8.4 W or 12 W depending on the model On some models No bulb to change, module not replaceable
G9 Warm white 2700 - 3500 K 12 W depending on the model Not specified Small socket, on the IP65 outdoor model

Where to install an adjustable wall light in the home?

The living room and the bedroom account for most of the models, followed by the desk. It is placed near the sofa, the headboard or the worktop to direct the light without taking up floor space. On a staircase or in a toilet, it marks the way in a small size; under a porch, an IP65 model is needed.

Almost the whole selection is rated IP20: it lives away from water, among the indoor wall lights. Only one outdoor model exists here, in aluminium with a G9 socket, with real IP65 protection. To light a stairwell, you look for light directed downwards, never into the eyes. In a hallway or a corridor, a steel dome that sends the flow downwards does the job without taking up the wall.

Which wall light depending on the room and use
Room What is expected of the light Type of arm Socket or technology Common finish
Living room Light a sofa, a wall of frames or a reading corner Long or offset arm, adjustable E27 most often, sometimes GU10 Black, gold, silver
Bedroom Replace the bedside lamp and read without glare Short to medium adjustable arm E27, GU10 or integrated LED Black, white, beige
Desk Light the worktop without reflection on the screen Adjustable and orientable arm E27, GU10 Black, silver
Staircase and corridor Mark the way up without glare Short or fixed arm, light downwards E27 Black, silver, white
Toilet, hallway and dressing room Light a small space Compact size, dome or round E27, LED Black, white
Sheltered outdoor Resist humidity IP65 model, not adjustable G9 White, aluminium

Which wall light to choose for the living room?

For a living room, first choose the reach of the arm: a short arm lights a wall or a painting, a long arm (90 cm and more) brings the light above a sofa. E27 socket for a bulb you choose, integrated LED or GU10 for a slimmer shape, and a dimmer if the mood must come down in the evening.

Modern living room wall light: black, white, brass or gold finishes

Black clearly dominates the selection, ahead of silver, white and gold. A black wall light with a large arm such as the Velora, with its grey velvet shade and its adjustable arm, covers a coffee table without the fixture being visible from afar. Gold and brass play with reflection when the room lacks natural light. As for mounting, the E27 socket accepts a dimmable bulb; many models already are. Browse wall lighting for the living room or the modern styles to narrow your search.

Powerful LED wall light: what the product sheet says

An LED wall light for a painting in bronze metal, 60 cm long and fitted with a dimmer, lights a canvas across its whole width without piercing it. Power alone does not say everything: look at the length of the diffuser and the reach of the arm, which determine the area actually lit. The Litho model in bronze comes in warm white and neutral white.

In practical terms, the collection has 64 references, most of them in E27 or GU10, with adjustable arms whose reach goes from 90 to 175 cm depending on the model.

Which adjustable wall light for the bedroom and reading?

In the bedroom, the adjustable wall light replaces the bedside lamp: the offset arm brings the light above the pillow and frees the bedside table. Velvet, bamboo, linen or raffia for the shade, an E27 socket with a warm white bulb, and a dimmer to lower the intensity before sleeping.

Bedroom reading wall light: velvet, bamboo, linen or raffia

Velvet absorbs light and gives a soft halo, as on the wall light with a grey velvet shade 50 cm in diameter. Bamboo and raffia filter the light and draw shadows on the wall, which is what the Yumé bamboo reading light does with its 30 cm shade. Linen remains the most neutral, in white or black. The bedroom wall lights in the selection are mostly E27, so with the bulb of your choice.

At what height should a reading light be placed above the bed?

Generally, the axis of the fixture is placed at seated shoulder height, around 90 to 110 cm from the floor, and 40 to 60 cm from the edge of the mattress. The arm must reach above the pillow without crossing the field of view of the person lying down. Adjust the swivel joint before tightening: you will avoid forcing the mount once the light is screwed on.

Bohemian or country chic wall light: which style to choose?

The bohemian style relies on natural materials (raffia, bamboo, cork, linen) and rounded shapes, often in a black or beige finish. The country chic register mixes linen, brass and soft colours. Both work in a living room as well as a bedroom, with an E27 socket that accepts the bulb of your choice.

Bohemian chic wall light: raffia, bamboo and cork

These materials work in indirect light: the weave lets the flow through and projects a pattern on the wall. The large Naïa raffia arm, with its adjustable reach and its natural grass shade, takes its place above a sofa or a reading armchair. Cork, more understated, ages without yellowing. For this register, the black finish holds the contrast without heaviness, and beige softens it. These rounded shapes sit alongside the modern styles and the black finishes of the collection.

Country chic wall light: brass, linen and natural tones

The mix of brass and white linen works on a pale wall as well as on a wall painted in a stone tone. A black linen shade, on a long arm, frames the light more and suits a desk better than a bedroom. In this register, you stay with simple lines: the fixture fades behind the material.

Adjustable wall light for kitchen, desk or painting: which uses?

On a worktop, an adjustable-arm wall light brings the light straight down onto the surface without drilling the wall above the units. At a desk, it lights the keyboard without reflection on the screen. For a painting, you choose a long, slim model, often LED, directed towards the canvas.

Adjustable kitchen wall light: lighting the worktop

The adjustable arm solves the problem of wall units: the fixture is fixed to the side, and the flow comes at an angle, without the shadow of your hand. An E27 socket accepts a warm white bulb that does not whiten food. A white steel wall light, discreet on pale tiles, also works near a sink. See the kitchen wall lighting and the dining room models if you also light the table.

Offset arm and painting wall light: framing the light

On a canvas, the fixture is placed above the frame, about 30 cm from the surface, angled towards it. A long LED profile avoids hot spots and reflection on varnish. GU10 remains useful when a sharp beam is needed on a detail. Everywhere else, E27 keeps the advantage: you choose the bulb and you replace it.

Which finish for a dark wall: black, white, brass or gold?

On a dark wall, a black wall light blends into the decor and lets the light speak; a white finish marks the contrast and visually enlarges. Brass, gold and silver bring a warm or cool reflection that warms a dark wall. The choice is made with the light on, in the evening.

Black or white adjustable wall light: playing with contrast

Black dresses walls painted in deep green, midnight blue or terracotta, and disappears on a charcoal wall. White, on the other hand, stands out against those same tones and suits small rooms where you want to lighten. Look at the white versions if your wall is dark and the space small.

Brass or gold adjustable wall light: warming the room

Brass and gold reflect the light of the bulb and act as a shiny point on a matt wall. On a dark background, the effect is immediate when switched on. Gold goes well with velvet and wood, less with raw steel. The gold wall lights remain a minority in the selection, which makes the choice simple.

How to install and care for an adjustable wall light?

Fix the mount onto a flush box or a cable outlet, switching off the power at the circuit breaker, then adjust the arm before tightening the screws. Allow for the space the arm needs to move so that it does not hit a piece of furniture. Dust the shade dry, with no product on velvet or raffia.

At what height should the wall light be fixed?

Above a table, allow about 60 cm between the top and the bottom of the shade. Near a mirror, the axis is placed at face height. On a wall of frames, the centre of the fixture follows the middle of the group. Test the travel of the arm before fastening: it is the only moment when you can still drill another hole without consequence.

Care: dusting the arm and the shade

A soft cloth is enough on metal, steel and aluminium. Velvet is brushed in a single direction, without water. Raffia, bamboo and cork are dusted dry, from a distance, so as not to break the fibres. Switch off the power before any work on the wiring, even to tighten a screw on the mount.

For a long black arm paired with a cork shade, look at the model with a cork shade, and find all the collections on all our light fixtures. For a wall without a dedicated supply, the collection also offers a wall light with a plug, offset arm and cork shade Ø 40 cm | Sövel: the cable and the plug save running an electrical line.

Frequently asked questions about the adjustable wall light

Which wall light for good lighting?

Aim for the area to be lit before the room: a long arm above a sofa, a short arm near a mirror, an adjustable model on a worktop. Favour an E27 socket to choose the bulb power, warm white 2700 to 3500 K for the evening, and a dimmer if you want to modulate.

How to choose a wall light for the living room?

Start from the furniture: a long arm of 90 cm and more to light above a sofa, a short arm for a wall of frames. Check the reach and height stated on the sheet, the E27 or GU10 socket, the colour temperature and whether a dimmer is included. The black finish dominates, gold warms.

Is there a watertight outdoor wall light?

Yes: one model in the selection is rated IP65, with a G9 socket and an aluminium body. Outside this protection, IP20 wall lights are for indoor use and withstand neither rain nor humidity. For a porch or an entrance sheltered from direct run-off, check the IP rating on the sheet.

What is the difference between a single adjustable wall light and a double adjustable wall light?

A single version carries one arm and one light point; a double version has two, which light two areas from the same mount. This changes the useful reach and the symmetry on the wall. On each product sheet, the number of light points and the dimensions indicate which assembly it is.

How to install a wall light on a finished wall?

Switch off the power, locate the cable outlet or the flush box, fix the mount with screws suited to the wall (plasterboard, brick or concrete), then connect before fitting the shade. The arm must be able to extend without hitting a piece of furniture: test the travel before screwing.
