A spider ceiling light spreads light from a central canopy: several arms or cords fan out and adjust in height, each point holding its own bulb. The light disperses above the room instead of falling in a single beam, which reduces shadow areas under the fixture.
What is a spider ceiling light and what light does it give?
A spider ceiling light spreads light from a central canopy, with arms or cords that fan out and adjust in height. Each point holds its own bulb, which lights the room instead of leaving a shadow area under the fixture.
One light point per arm
Several sources are better than one above a table: the light comes from different sides and settles at eye level. Depending on the model, the arms are fixed or each cord adjusts independently, which allows following a worktop or lowering one point lower than another. The Fryn ceiling light and its six lights shows the principle: one canopy, six spread points, a diameter of 105 cm.
Materials and shapes of the collection
Metal dominates, often combined with glass, and there is also aluminium, steel, plastic, bamboo and marble. The most common shapes are the ball and the round, followed by the globe, the tube and asymmetrical compositions. These fixtures target first the living room, the kitchen and the dining room, and also find their place in a bedroom or an entrance.
To compare matte or glossy finishes, browse the metal models. Glass ceiling lights lighten the volumes, and the Grace 07 canopy in blown glass gives a good overview with its seven points.
How many arms or cords to choose: 2, 3, 5 or 7 lights?
Two or three arms are enough for a hallway, an entrance or a small table; five, six or seven lights fill a large living room or a dining room where dark areas are to be avoided. The more points there are, the more bulbs to plan: the models in the collection use E14, E27, G9 or G4.
Spider ceiling light 2 cords or 3 cords: for which room?
On a short surface, two or three points are enough. A hallway, an entrance or a small table are satisfied with targeted lighting, and this format remains the lightest on the ceiling. A composition of three aligned E27 bulbs suits above a worktop, while an E14 version is more discreet. Hallway models are often chosen on this criterion.
Spider ceiling light 5 cords and 7 lights: when to multiply the points?
As soon as a room is wide, two or three sources leave dark holes between the lamps. Six or seven points form a luminous sheet over a large living room or a dining room. A single canopy then replaces several separate ceiling lights, with only one power point to prepare on the ceiling.
| Light points | Room and use | Desired effect | Sockets noted | Example in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 to 3 points | Hallway, entrance, small kitchen | Targeted lighting, low bulk | E14 | 3-light ceiling light sand black |
| 3 points | Dining room, short island | Three sources aligned above the surface | E27 | D800 ceiling light sand black and brass |
| 6 points | Large living room, dining room | Luminous sheet, limited shadows | E14 | Artistique 6-light ceiling light Fryn |
| 7 points | Living room, dining room, entrance | Light spread across the whole room | Glass | Grace 07 canopy in blown glass |
| Dimmable version | Living room, dining room | Adjustable intensity in the evening | LED | D805 46 W dimmable ceiling light |
Living room and dining room ceiling light: at what height to hang it?
Above a table, the ceiling light is lowered to light the surface without cutting the view; in a living room, it is raised to free the passage. The Fryn is adjustable from 80 to 105 cm. The Constellation black shows an overall height of 107 cm and the Bollique black of 150 cm. The Bollique cream goes down to 350 cm.
XXL ceiling light high ceiling: what cable height to plan?
Under a high ceiling, start with a model whose height is adjustable. The Bollique cream ceiling light goes down to 350 cm, which leaves margin in a double-height space. Each cord is then adjusted to bring the light closer to the table without hindering the passage. Check the weight before drilling: it goes up to 9 kg on one model in the selection.
Design bedroom ceiling light: how to hang it without overwhelming the room?
In a bedroom, few points, diffusing glass and a warm white are enough. It is installed rather above a reading corner or a low piece of furniture, at a good distance from the bed so as not to dazzle when lying down. Bedroom lighting plays on short heights and contained volumes.
Above a table, dining room ceiling lights are generally set between 75 and 90 cm from the tabletop, depending on the height of the guests. In a living room, living room lighting is raised to clear the traffic.
Kitchen ceiling light, island and Italian design: how to match it?
On a kitchen island, two or three points aligned above the worktop light the preparation without casting a shadow on the hands. Adjustable cords allow following the length of the island, and the black, gold, silver or glass finishes match the fronts and the worktop.
Italian design kitchen ceiling light: what changes?
This register is recognised by fine lines, large diameters and black, brass or glass finishes, with a pared-back composition. The diameters noted in the selection range from Ø 400 mm to Ø 1200 mm, through Ø 800 and Ø 805 mm. Design pieces stand out without overloading the ceiling.
Kitchen island ceiling light: how many points above the worktop?
Two or three points suit a short island. On a long island, a composition of six points or a wide model spreads the light over the whole length. The essential thing is that each point is adjustable, to align the lamps at the same height. The 46 W dimmable model sits on Ø 805 mm.
For a more original kitchen, look towards bamboo or marble, which bring a texture different from black metal. The kitchen ceiling light is finally chosen on dimmer compatibility if you cook in the evening.
Modern, original or retro ceiling light: which style for which room?
Style is read first in the colour and the material. Black dominates the collection and matches a contemporary kitchen or living room; gold and silver structure a more classic room, while glass and bamboo lighten the volumes. Metal remains the most represented material.
Black or white spider ceiling light: what effect in a room?
Black structures and blends into a contemporary or industrial interior: it is barely seen on the ceiling and leaves the light alone on stage. White and glass lighten a small volume or a bedroom. Compare the black finish and the white models before deciding, taking the walls into account.
Spider ceiling light in rattan or rope: what alternative?
No model in woven rattan or hemp rope appears in this selection. For a similar warm effect, bamboo and tinted glass give a natural texture without imitation. Gold tones play a similar role in a living room or an entrance. Gold tones warm an interior without weighing it down. Coloured finishes and adjustable arms, from the 7-light red model to the 8-arm version, also open a retro register.
The vocabulary helps to find one's way: a chandelier goes down in several points around an axis, whereas a ceiling light groups its arms on a canopy. Both light from above, the difference lies mainly in the shape. Modern-style ceiling lights cover a large part of this family.
IP44 bathroom ceiling light: is this collection suitable?
No. The models presented here are rated IP20, therefore intended for dry rooms: living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom or entrance. In a bathroom, a fixture rated at least IP44 is needed, protected from humidity and splashes. A very damp wet room remains to be avoided.
The protection rating describes resistance to dust and water, not the quality of the light. An IP20 is installed away from splashes, which covers most living rooms. For a bathroom, it is better to look for another fixture than to divert the whole range of ceiling lights.
Bulbs, sockets and dimmer: what to check before buying?
Three families of bulbs coexist: E14 and E27 screw-in, G9 and G4 pin, plus integrated LED versions that cannot be replaced. Warm white is the most common temperature, and dimmer compatibility is not systematic: it is checked on each product page.
Spider ceiling light with LED or with interchangeable bulbs?
An integrated LED cannot be replaced: its temperature and intensity are set at manufacture. A socket bulb can be changed, which allows switching from a warm white (2700 to 3500 K) to a cool white (4500 to 6500 K) depending on use. On models sold without a source, the power indicated (28 W, 40 W, 46 W, 60 W) is that of the bulb to install. LED versions exist in the selection.
How to know if a ceiling light is dimmer compatible?
The information appears on the product page, and it concerns only a minority of models. A dimmer-compatible bulb remains necessary, even if the fixture is. For a controlled budget, affordable models remain an honest entry point, provided the socket is checked.
| Socket | Bulb type | Where it appears in the collection | What to plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| E14 | Screw socket, compact format | Multi-arm compositions | One bulb per point, to plan individually |
| E27 | Screw socket, standard format | Three-point models, bamboo, beads | Check the space around the bulb |
| G9 | Pin socket | Slim models and decorative fixtures | Clip-in bulb, often small in size |
| G4 | Pin socket, very small format | Oiseau ceiling light | Product page to check before replacement |
| LED | Integrated source, not replaceable | Contemporary dimmable models | The temperature is set at manufacture |
How to install and maintain a spider ceiling light?
The power is cut, the solidity of the fixing point is checked and the canopy is mounted before adjusting each cord to the desired length, then screwing in the bulbs. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough on metal and glass is cleaned without an abrasive product.
Spider ceiling light 3 lamps: how to adjust the length of the cords?
Each cord is adjusted one by one before locking the cables in the canopy: the cable clamp is released, the cord is slid to the desired length, then tightened again. A marker taken on the floor or a tape measure placed vertically helps keep the lamps at the same height.
How to clean a glass and metal ceiling light?
A soft dry cloth on metal, lukewarm slightly soapy water on glass, without abrasive or scouring sponge. Proceed point by point on multi-arm compositions, holding each piece with one hand, and cut the power before any handling near the sockets.
Choose your model in the whole range of ceiling lights, keeping the height and the socket in sight. The order is placed with secure payment, with tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service; depending on the models, the warranty runs for 2, 3 or 5 years. Our lighting universe gathers the rest of the families.
Frequently asked questions
Does light scare spiders away?
No, light does not repel them: it rather attracts the flying insects they feed on, which can on the contrary bring them back near the fixture. A ceiling light left on for a long time in the evening therefore has no repellent effect. It is better to act on ventilation and on the presence of insects in the room.
What is the difference between a chandelier and a ceiling light?
A chandelier goes down from the ceiling in several points around a central axis, often with small chains and ornaments; a ceiling light groups its arms or cords around a canopy and spreads them in the room. Both light from above: the difference lies mainly in the shape and the vocabulary used.
Can a spider ceiling light be installed in a bathroom?
No: the models in this selection are rated IP20, intended for dry rooms. A bathroom requires at least an IP44 rating, which protects from splashes and humidity. For a wet room, turn to a fixture rated IP44 rather than a multi-arm ceiling light.
XXL ceiling light high ceiling: what cable height to plan?
Under a high ceiling, a model whose height is adjustable is preferred: the collection offers overall heights from 107 to 150 cm, and one version goes down to 350 cm. Each cord is then adjusted to bring the light closer to the table without hindering the passage.
Kitchen island ceiling light: how many points above the worktop?
Two to three points are enough on a short island; on a long island, a composition of six points or a wide model spreads the light over the whole length. The essential thing is that each point is adjustable, to align the lamps at the same height above the worktop.
