First count the room, then the surface to cover: a 30 cm shade is enough in a bedroom, a hallway or a small living room, while above a table, a diameter of 49 to 60 cm covers the tabletop better. All the silk pendant lights in this selection use an E27 bulb holder and are rated IP20, for dry rooms.
Which silk pendant light for which room?
The room decides before the technical details. A pendant light with a textile shade softens the light: it illuminates without glare and casts a low halo, close to the surface it hangs over. The models in this selection are rated for the bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway, which leaves few dry rooms aside.
Living room pendant light: what diameter above the sofa?
Above a sofa, the shade enters your field of vision as soon as you sit down: a 49 to 60 cm format marks the area without overwhelming it in a large volume, while a 30 cm one suits a reading corner or a small living room. The cable is then adjusted to keep the view clear. See the models designed for the living room and, for a more graphic look, the black selection.
Designer bedroom pendant light: what light in the evening?
In a bedroom, you want a low, enveloping light rather than general lighting. The white textile oval Etoilea, rated for the bedroom, at Ø 300 mm and H 410 mm, fills this role near a bed or in the centre of the room. The bedroom pendant lights bring together the light tones that soften the light best.
Kitchen pendant light: above the worktop or the island?
Above a worktop or an island, the shade must not block the view of the person cooking: a Ø 300 mm works as a small module, a 49 or 50 cm one above a table or a wide island. The choice comes down to the width of the furniture to cover. See the kitchen pendant lights and the models to hang above a dining table.
Which size to choose: oval, round or large silk pendant light?
Formats range from 30 cm to 60 cm in diameter, with heights of 410 to 430 mm. A 30 cm shade suits a bedroom, a hallway or a kitchen; 49 and 50 cm for a living room or a dining room; 60 cm, and the Mila in 40, 50 and 60 cm, for large tables and high ceilings.
| Model | Diameter | Height | Rated rooms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mila | 40, 50 and 60 cm | Not given | Living room, bedroom, hallway, office, dining room |
| Onddanina | Ø 500 mm | 430 mm | Living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, hallway |
| Elimilaro | Ø 300 mm | 410 mm | Living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, hallway |
| Blanchelle | Ø 600 mm | Not given | Living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, hallway |
| Rosdanessa | Ø 490 mm | 410 mm | Living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, hallway |
| Etoilea | Ø 300 mm | 410 mm | Bedroom |
XXL pendant light for high ceilings: how to balance it?
Under a high ceiling, a 30 cm shade looks lost: you need to go up in diameter and use the cable length to bring the source closer to the surface being lit. Models of 49, 50 or 60 cm fill the volume better, and a ball shape reads well from a distance.
Large silk pendant light: up to what diameter?
The catalogue stops at 60 cm in diameter, with the Mila in three sizes and the large pleated white oval Blanchelle. Beyond that, it is better to multiply light points than to aim for a wider shade, especially over a large table.
White, beige or black silk pendant light: what effect on the light?
A white or off-white shade diffuses a clear light and keeps the room bright; a black shade concentrates it downwards and creates a strong contrast. Beige and grey soften the result. Several black models have a gold interior, which warms the light without darkening it.
White silk pendant light: for a bright bedroom
White reflects light back towards the ceiling and brightens the room without overexposing it. In a bedroom or a hallway, it is the easiest tone to match with a light wall. The white versions gather these models, including Sordanara, in white metal. On the silk side, the most noble quality remains mulberry silk, appreciated for the fineness of its thread and its tight weave. It offers a regular drape and a soft sheen, without excessive fragility. A dense weave and a supple hand generally indicate superior quality.
Beige or off-white silk pendant light: the most neutral tone
Beige and off-white slightly warm the light and forgive dust more than a pure white. The Mila comes in beige, white and grey. Conversely, a black model with a gold interior concentrates the flow towards the table.
Modern, japandi or vintage pendant light: which style to choose?
The dominant style of the collection is contemporary, with pieces classified as modern, luxury or vintage. For a japandi interior, look for a simple shape, a solid colour, an off-white or a beige and a textile material, rather than a very ornate or very contrasting shade.
| Model | Rated style | Rated material | Colour | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Onddanina | Contemporary | Metal, paper | Black | Bell |
| Elimilaro | Contemporary, luxury | Fibrous texture | Black | Oval |
| Blanchelle | Modern | Fabric | White | Pleated oval |
| Rosdanessa | Contemporary | Metal | Black | Conical |
| Sordanara | Contemporary, luxury | Metal | Off-white | Original, fibrous |
| Etoilea | Contemporary, luxury | Metal | White | Pleated textile oval |
Japandi silk pendant light: which materials to favour?
The japandi register is recognisable by a sober silhouette, a solid colour and a matte textile. No model is labelled japandi here, but an off-white or beige fabric oval comes close, provided you avoid piling up objects around it.
Modern pendant light: how to match it without overloading?
A contemporary model is enough on its own: keep a single strong piece per surface, then neutral tones around it. The modern pendant lights and the designer pieces pair well with a coherent set of light fittings.
Original pendant light: which shapes and which design?
The shapes offered are original, oval or ball-shaped, with crumpled or pleated shades. The black models play on sobriety: the Onddanina, the Rosdanessa and the Elimilaro stay in black.
Original pendant light: oval, bell or conical?
The oval spreads light across its full width and sits above a wide surface. The bell and the conical direct the flow downwards and draw a clean silhouette in a room. The oval shade with fibrous texture Elimilaro illustrates the first, the bell the second.
What the search for Italian design covers
In practice, this expression refers to clean lines, refined finishes and large formats, not a specific origin. No model in this selection claims Italian manufacturing. If those are the criteria guiding you, look at the gold pendant lights and the refined metal models.
Which bulb and which bulb holder for a silk pendant light?
All the pendant lights in the collection use an E27 bulb holder and most are rated LED. An E27 bulb lets you choose the light tone according to the room; some models also accept a dimmer, to be checked before wiring them to a dimmer switch.
LED pendant light: is a separate bulb necessary?
The bulb holder remains E27, so the bulb is separate from the light fitting: it determines the tone, warmer for a bedroom, more neutral for a kitchen. A power of 15 W is rated on part of the selection. The models rated LED are easy to spot.
Dimmer and silk pendant light: how to check compatibility?
Only part of the selection accepts a dimmer, the Mila pendant light in fibrous textile for example. Check model by model, and remember that a non-dimmable LED bulb prevents dimming even if the light fitting supports it.
How to install and maintain a silk pendant light?
Switch off the power at the circuit breaker, check the strength of the ceiling fixing point, then connect the pendant light before fitting the shade. For maintenance, dry dusting is enough: a textile shade is cleaned with a soft cloth or a soft brush, without water.
Ceiling fixing: check the support before hanging
The mounting plate must rest on a sound support, not on hollow plaster. Connect the wires before fixing the shade, then adjust the cable height once the light fitting is in place: it is simpler than taking everything down again. For a high ceiling, pendant lights with adjustable cable offer more latitude.
Dusting a textile shade without damaging it
A feather duster or a soft-bristled brush is enough for weekly dust, from top to bottom. Avoid water, damp cloths and household products, which mark the textile. Darker pieces, such as the pleated textile oval, mainly need regular dusting.
Can a silk pendant light be installed in a bathroom?
These pendant lights are rated IP20, an index intended for dry rooms: bedroom, living room, dining room, kitchen and hallway. In a bathroom, you need a light fitting with a higher index, suited to water splashes, such as IP44. These models are therefore not intended for a damp room.
IP44 bathroom pendant light: what this index means
The first digit of the index covers solid bodies, the second water: an IP44 resists splashes, which an IP20 does not. For a bathroom, turn to another material, for example glass pendant lights, checking the index given on each product page.
IP20 in the kitchen and hallway: is that enough?
Yes, as long as the room is dry and the light fitting is not directly exposed to steam or water. A kitchen and a hallway remain dry spaces, so they are compatible with the IP20 of this selection. For a corridor or a passageway, see the models suited to hallways.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between an oval silk pendant light and a ball pendant light?
An oval pendant light has a shade wider than it is tall, which spreads the light over the worktop or the table. A spherical shape concentrates the flow and stands out mainly for its round silhouette. The choice therefore depends on the surface to light, not only on style.
Which silk pendant light for a bedroom?
For a bedroom, a shade that softens the light is better, in white, off-white or beige. The Etoilea, a white textile oval at Ø 300 mm, is rated for the bedroom; the Mila, in fibrous textile, also works and comes in three diameters. The height is adjusted on the cable.
How to hang a pendant light above a dining table?
Centre the shade over the tabletop and adjust the cable height before fixing the mounting plate, keeping the view clear between guests. Models of 49, 50 or 60 cm, rated for the dining room, cover a large table better than a 30 cm oval.
Is a silk pendant light compatible with a dimmer?
Only part of the selection accepts a dimmer. Check model by model before wiring the pendant light to a dimmer switch, because a non-dimmable LED bulb prevents dimming even if the light fitting supports it. The bulb holder remains E27 in all cases.
What is the symbolism of silk?
Silk evokes refinement and softness, which explains its place in calm interiors. In a shade, what matters remains the drape of the textile, its solid colour and the way it softens the light rather than its label. The beige and off-white tones come closest here.
How to choose between two models
Use three reference points: the width of the surface to cover, the colour of the wall behind, and the need to adjust the intensity. A Ø 300 mm for a narrow piece of furniture, a 49 to 60 cm for a large table, a light textile on a dark wall. If doubt persists, compare all the pendant lights and the Designix light fitting catalogue before deciding.
