Count three things before fixing a bathroom ceiling light: the size that suits the ceiling area and the available height, the ingress protection rating to increase in areas exposed to water splashes, and the light temperature, warm white for a soft mood, cool white for a crisp result. The finish comes next, depending on the style of the room.

Which modern bathroom ceiling light should you choose?
The choice comes down to three points: the size, suited to the ceiling area and the available height, the ingress protection rating, to be increased in areas exposed to water splashes, and the light temperature, warm white for a soft mood, cool white for a crisp result. The finish then follows the style of the room.
Modern bathroom ceiling light: what it changes in the room
A ceiling light placed in the centre often replaces the single wall light: the light spreads over the pale tiles, the corners fill up, and the basin area stays clear. The wall around the mirror also regains its space, where a wall light used to clutter it. Round and oval shapes give a soft result; squares, spheres and tubes make more of a statement on the ceiling. A selection of LED bathroom ceiling lights gathers these silhouettes on one page.
Design bathroom light: size, finish and light
White remains the most common and most neutral finish on pale tiles; black and gold come just behind. Metal dominates the materials, with acrylic, glass, iron and copper as complements. To widen the comparison, browse the design LED ceiling lights. You can also go back to our full range of lights to see how these models compare with other rooms in the house.
IP rating: which ceiling light for a wet area?
The ingress protection rating describes the light's resistance to dust and water. In this selection, the vast majority of models are IP20, to be placed on a ceiling with no direct splashes, and one model with a sealed diffuser is IP44, protected against water splashes. Choose IP44 directly above a shower, a bath or a basin.
| Installation area | Recommended IP rating | Recommended size | Example in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Directly above the shower, bath or basin | IP44 | Compact with sealed diffuser | Lundanissa LED ceiling light, Ø 120 mm |
| Room ceiling, outside the splash zone | IP20 | Round or square, 25 to 30 cm | Bombata or Rora LED ceiling light |
| Large bathroom or room open to the bedroom | IP20 | Large format, 83 to 105 cm | Zénith Chic LED ceiling light, Ø 83 cm |
| Adjoining hallway or WC | IP20 | Small adjustable ceiling light | Caldera LED ceiling light, 14 x 30 cm |
Bathroom ceiling lights: when should you switch to IP44?
As soon as the light sits directly above a water point, IP44 becomes the right option: this is the case with the Lundanissa black IP44 ceiling light, cylindrical in aluminium, Ø 120 mm and 64 mm high, with dimmer. Elsewhere, on a dry ceiling, IP20 is more than enough. For an adjoining passage room, look at the hallway lights: same shapes, same installation logic.
WC light: which ceiling light when the room is small and damp?
A WC is often narrow and windowless: a compact ceiling light illuminates without dropping into your line of sight, and an adjustable model lets you aim at the wall rather than the floor. If the room receives water splashes, IP44 is preferable to IP20. A low-profile silhouette keeps the space feeling airy, which matters even more when the ceiling is low.
Design bathroom lighting: warm white, neutral white or cool white?
The ceiling lights in the collection illuminate in warm white (2700 to 3500 K), cool white (4500 to 6500 K) or neutral white (3500 to 4500 K). Warm white softens the room, especially in the evening; cool white gives a crisper result for getting ready in the morning in front of the mirror. Neutral white sits between the two.
Design bathroom lighting: which light above the mirror?
In front of a mirror, light that is too yellow alters your complexion and light that is too cool hardens your features. Warm white suits a bathroom used in the evening; cool white makes white tiles look very white, which is useful in a dark room. In general, light around 3000 to 4000 K remains a good compromise for a single room used morning and evening. A dimmable model settles this point without changing the light.
Dimmer: which models allow you to adjust the intensity?
Slightly less than a third of the models in the selection accept a dimmer, including the black IP44 cylindrical ceiling light in its dimmable version, the large Zénith Chic and the oval Orva. The benefit is simple: bright light for getting ready, low light in the evening. Check the compatibility of the wall dimmer, as not all of them control the same modules.
Which ceiling light size for a small or large bathroom?
Compact formats range from Ø 120 mm for a cylindrical ceiling light to around Ø 30 cm for a round or square one, with heights from 6 to 12 cm. Large formats, from 60 to 130 cm, fill the ceiling of a spacious room or a bathroom open to the bedroom.
Decorative bathroom ceiling lights: which diameter for a low ceiling?
Under a low ceiling, the height of the light matters more than its diameter: a model 6 to 9 cm high stays discreet, like Bombata and its domed diffuser, ø 30 cm by 9 cm high. A Ø 120 mm cylinder suits a narrow room. These guidelines for modern LED ceiling lights also apply to a small shower room of a few square metres.
Decorative bathroom light: lighting a large room without weighing it down
Over a large area, one wide light spreads the light better than several small models. Large formats from 60 to 130 cm, in metal and acrylic or glass, suit an open room. Compare with the living room ceiling lights, where the same volumes are used, and see the modern models for the living room if the room connects.
Art deco or industrial style ceiling light: which finish for a bathroom?
The art deco style shows in gold and bronze finishes and in round or oval shapes, sometimes lifted with crystal drops. The industrial style relies on black metal and adjustable spotlights. White, common in the selection, remains the most neutral finish for a pale room.
Art deco bathroom ceiling light: gold, bronze or crystal drops?
Gold and bronze set the tone, especially on pale tiles. The Aurelio gold ceiling light, with perforated resin petals, comes in 85, 95 and 105 cm; Miral and its crystal drops play the same card in cool white, in a square format of 30 x 12 cm. Worth knowing: the only IP44 model in the selection is black, so more understated.
Industrial style bathroom light: black metal and adjustable spotlights
The industrial style rests on black metal and adjustable spotlights, like Caldera and its adjustable spotlights, at 14 x 30 cm, with E27 socket and white, grey or black finishes. A black or grey finish goes with grey tiles, concrete or chrome fittings. Find this register in the black finishes for the living room and the industrial style lights.
How to install and maintain a bathroom ceiling light?
A bathroom ceiling light is fixed to the ceiling, away from water points, on the existing mounting box or on the planned cable outlet. Wiring is done with the power off. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough on metal and acrylic; glass is cleaned with a non-abrasive product.
Design bathroom chandelier: how to install it without cluttering the room?
A chandelier differs from a ceiling light by its structure and its multiple light points. In a bathroom, a model with drops or gold branches goes in the centre, on a dry ceiling, rather than directly above the shower. Check the weight and the anchor point before drilling, then tighten after restoring the power. For a passage room, the hallway ceiling lights follow the same installation logic.
Cleaning a metal, glass or acrylic ceiling light
On metal, a slightly damp soft cloth is enough, then wipe dry to avoid marks. Acrylic is dusted dry, without an alcohol-based product that would make it opaque. Glass accepts a non-abrasive product, applied to the cloth rather than to the light. Always cut the power before working on a removable diffuser.
You now have your criteria: size, ingress protection rating, light temperature. Choose your bathroom ceiling light by filtering on these three points.
Dining room light and WC light: how to keep a consistent style?
The same family of shapes and finishes links the rooms: a gold or black ceiling light in the bathroom continues with a dining room light in the same shade, a compact model in the WC, and a matching ceiling light for a modern kitchen decor. The finish colour is the simplest common thread.
Dining room light: which finishes should you carry over from the bathroom?
Repeating the same shade, gold, black or white, creates a visual continuity from one room to the next. A round model in metal and acrylic works in both, with large formats better suited to a dining room. Also look at the design hallway ceiling lights to link the volumes.
Modern kitchen decor: extending the same family of lights
In the kitchen, keep the finish and adapt the size to the room. The kitchen LED ceiling lights and the modern kitchen lights often use the same round and oval metal shapes. If the room also serves as an office, the office LED ceiling lights complete the series.
Should you replace a halogen light with an LED ceiling light?
The whole selection runs on LED, with an integrated module or with GU10, G4 and E27 sockets. The base is the information to check before buying the bulb: a model with an integrated LED module does not take a bulb, whereas a model with a GU10, G4 or E27 socket is chosen in an LED version.
| Model | Size | IP rating | Base or technology | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bombata | ø 30 cm, H 9 cm | IP20 | LED module | White |
| Lundanissa | Ø 120 mm, H 64 mm | IP44 | LED module, dimmer | Black |
| Rora | ø 25 cm, H 6 cm | IP20 | GU10 | Black, white or gold |
| Caldera | 14 cm x 30 cm | IP20 | E27 | White, grey or black |
| Aurelio | 85, 95 or 105 cm x 30 cm | IP20 | G4 | Gold, white or bronze |
| Zénith Chic | Ø 83 cm x H 12 cm | IP20 | LED, dimmer | White, gold or red |
G4, GU10 or E27 base: how to choose the bulb for your ceiling light?
The base decides everything. A GU10 socket takes a bulb with short pins, common on adjustable models. G4 concerns small bulbs with fine pins, on lights with petals or branches. E27 is the large screw base, available in all light temperatures. On a model with an integrated LED module, there is nothing to plan for.
Halogen light: what solutions in a bathroom today?
There is no halogen model in this selection: everything runs on LED, which avoids heat at the ceiling and the consumption of a classic bulb. If you are replacing an old light, keep the same fixing position and choose the light temperature according to use, then complete with a matching model for the hallway or another room. Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service support you from choice to installation.
Frequently asked questions
Design bathroom chandelier: is it suitable?
A chandelier differs from a ceiling light by its structure and its multiple light points. In a bathroom, a model with crystal drops or gold branches finds its place in the centre of the room, on a dry ceiling, rather than directly above the shower.
Art deco bathroom ceiling light: which finish should you choose?
Gold and bronze set the art deco tone, with round or oval shapes and, on some models, crystal drops. These finishes pair well with pale tiles. Note: the only IP44 model in the collection has a black finish, more understated.
Design bathroom lighting: which light temperature?
The ceiling lights in the collection illuminate in warm white (2700 to 3500 K), neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) or cool white (4500 to 6500 K). Warm white softens the room, neutral white stays versatile, cool white gives a crisp light for a very white result.
Modern bathroom ceiling light: do you need a dimmer?
Some models in the collection accept a dimmer, including the black IP44 cylindrical ceiling light. This lets you go from bright light for getting ready to low light in the evening. Check that the wall dimmer is compatible with the chosen model.
Halogen light: should you still install one in a bathroom?
In this collection, all ceiling lights run on LED, with an integrated module or with GU10, G4 and E27 sockets. There is therefore no halogen model to plan for: the bulb is chosen according to the base shown on the product page.
