A 3 lamp ceiling light groups three sources on a single base fixed to the ceiling: the light spreads out instead of falling from one point, and dark areas recede in a living room, bedroom, hallway or dining room. The choice comes down to three criteria, the socket, the finish and the format, before any question of style.
Which 3 lamp ceiling light to choose for each room?
In a living room, bedroom, hallway or dining room, a 3 lamp ceiling light spreads the light over three points. Choose a GU10 socket for a directed beam, an E27 or E14 socket for diffuse light. In a damp room, choose an IP44 model.
A living room or dining room, above the table or sofa
Three light points cover the room without leaving shadows behind the seating. An E27 socket model such as Darling, 45 cm with three lights gives a wide, even light. Amore in glass and steel plays the same tune, with glass that softens the bulb. To target a specific table rather than the whole room, a GU10 socket directs the beam better than an E27 socket.
A bedroom, hallway or corridor
In a bedroom, a compact format and a light finish blend into the ceiling and let low lighting do the rest. In a narrow corridor, avoid direct glare: a glass diffuser and three moderate bulbs are enough, as the eyes pass close to the ceiling. The whole Designix lighting selection can also be browsed by use if you are looking for a pendant or a wall light to complement the ceiling light.
Which ceiling light gives the best light?
Illumination depends mainly on the wattage and the number of bulbs, not on style. A model with three E27 sockets takes up to 3 x 15 W, a GU10 ceiling light up to 3 x 12 W, a G9 model up to 3 x 6 W and an E14 up to 3 x 7 W. Three sources are better than one for covering a room.
GU10, E27, G9 or E14 socket: what it changes in the room
| Socket | Maximum stated wattage | What it changes | Example models |
|---|---|---|---|
| GU10 | 3 x 12 W max, and 3 x 5 W max on Lagos | More directed beam, spot bulb | Clevland, Rodos Plus, Olimp Plus, Lagos |
| E27 | 3 x 15 W max | Standard bulb, diffuse light | Toni, Darling, Amore, Doria, Ombra, Pasadena |
| G9 | 3 x 6 W max | Small socket, slim diffuser | Rodos, Saturnia |
| E14 | 3 x 7 W max | Compact bulbs, discreet look | Parula, Paloma, Hampton, Flavio |
| GX53 | Not stated on the product pages | Flat screw-in format | Depending on the model |
Adjustable 3 lamp ceiling light: what to check before buying
Adjustability depends on the model and the bulb chosen: a head takes a wide or narrow GU10 spot depending on what you screw into it. So check the socket and the shape of the head before ordering. The Olimp Plus in white stays discreet on the ceiling, while Lagos in white and gold, 44 cm draws a bar with three points above a worktop.
How do you wire several lights to a single electrical supply?
Several lights are connected in parallel, never in series: each point starts from the same live, neutral and earth terminal block. A 3 lamp ceiling light connects to a single point on the ceiling, since its three sockets are already linked together. To create a new circuit, call an electrician.
A single connection for three light points
You only run one supply from the ceiling, the light fixture handles the distribution. The product's terminal block receives the three conductors, and the three sockets are wired at the factory. The Clevland ceiling light and its GU10 spots illustrates this simple setup, with a single plate to screw in.
Why series wiring switches all three lights off at once
In series, the voltage is shared between the bulbs: brightness drops and a single bulb failing interrupts all three. In parallel, each point stays independent. If you are hesitating between several lighting families, the other lighting families connect the same way, to a single supply.
3 lamp ceiling light in wood, rattan or metal: which material to choose?
The material is chosen first for what it does to the light: glass diffuses it, metal keeps it sharp, wood warms it. This selection brings together steel, aluminium, metal, glass, brass and wood. Rattan is not included.
Wood in the selection, and the case of rattan
Wood dresses one reference, Parula, the wooden reference, in beige and brown, with E14 sockets for three compact bulbs. If you were looking for a 3 lamp rattan ceiling light, note that no model in this selection uses that material: woven wood is found elsewhere, in the lighting section.
Glass, steel, brass or aluminium: what it changes on the ceiling
Glass softens the light and hides the bulb, steel and aluminium keep a sharp line, brass warms the colour of the light. Paloma in glass and brass combines both effects, a soft diffuser in a warm frame, in a compact 34 cm format.
Black, white or gold 3 lamp ceiling light: how to match it to the room?
White dominates this selection, ahead of black and gold. Green, brown and red remain rarer. Look at the ceiling and the woodwork before deciding: a finish should be judged as much switched off as switched on, in the room, not in a photo.
A black 3 lamp ceiling light, which interior to put it in
Black draws the line on the ceiling and matches contemporary or industrial interiors, especially on a white ceiling. Doria in black, white, gold or green comes in four finishes, which lets you keep the same silhouette from one room to another. For an original ceiling light, it is often the dark or coloured finish that makes the difference.
White and gold finishes
White blends into the ceiling in a bright room and leaves all the space to the furniture. Gold and brass match woods and warm tones. Hampton, glass and gold brass, plays that card on a 30 cm base, with 3 x 7 W in E14.
LED ceiling light or replaceable bulbs: which to choose?
A 3 lamp ceiling light with integrated LEDs cannot be repaired: the source is fixed and lasts as long as the fixture. A model with a GU10, E27, G9 or E14 socket lets you choose the bulb, replace it if it dims and switch from warm light to cooler light.
3 lamp LED ceiling light: what it involves
The source cannot be replaced, so the colour temperature is fixed at purchase. For a living room LED ceiling light, aim for warm light, generally around 2700 to 3000 K, and cooler light, around 4000 K, above a worktop where you chop. Some models in the collection are stated as dimmer compatible.
Changing a bulb yourself
With a socket, you can fix a bulb that is too weak without replacing the fixture. Saturnia and its round format takes three G9 bulbs, and Flavio, 60 cm in IP44 takes three E14 in a long format, in a damp room as well as a kitchen.
What dimensions and protection rating for the room?
The formats listed on the product pages range from 30 cm square to 60 cm long. Most models are IP20, reserved for dry rooms; other references are IP44 and suit a bathroom. A square model and a round model do not occupy the ceiling in the same way.
IP20 or IP44: which room requires it
IP20 covers living room, bedroom, hallway, corridor, dining room, kitchen and office. IP44 handles humidity and water splashes, so a bathroom, taking into account the distance between the fixture and the shower. Pasadena in IP44 for the bathroom combines glass, steel and brass over 36 cm.
Which format for the ceiling
| Format | Stated dimensions | Where it works well | Example models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round | 18 x 33 x 33 cm | Bedroom, hallway, corridor | Saturnia |
| Square | 8 x 45 x 45 cm | Living room, dining room | Darling, Amore |
| Compact square | 17.5 x 34 x 34 cm | Bedroom, office | Paloma |
| Compact square | 30 x 30 cm and 18.5 x 30 x 30 cm | Hallway, corridor, kitchen | Ombra, Hampton, Doria |
| Three-point bar | 10.5 x 45 x 15 cm and 14.5 x 44 x 9 cm | Kitchen, worktop, hallway | Rodos, Rodos Plus, Lagos |
| Long format | 7.5 x 50 x 11 cm and 15 x 60 x 12 cm | Kitchen, hallway, damp room | Toni, Flavio |
Ombra, 30 cm in diameter, occupies the ceiling of a small room without weighing it down, with three E27 bulbs.
How do you install and maintain a 3 lamp ceiling light?
Switch off the power at the circuit breaker, identify the conductors, fix the plate with a plug suited to the surface, screw in the three bulbs without forcing, refit the diffuser, then restore the power. For maintenance, a soft dry cloth is enough on steel, glass and brass.
Fixing the fixture to the ceiling
First identify live, neutral and earth, then choose the fixing according to the surface: plasterboard plug in a hollow ceiling, concrete plug in a slab. Toni, 50 cm long format mounts on a narrow plate, handy above a worktop where space is tight.
Cleaning glass and metal without damaging them
A soft dry cloth, without abrasive product, keeps glass and brass shiny. Avoid ammonia-based sprays on gold finishes. Rodos Plus in its GU10 version comes apart easily to reach the three heads, which makes dusting simpler.

Frequently asked questions
Which ceiling light gives the best light?
A model with three E27 sockets takes up to 3 x 15 W, a GU10 ceiling light up to 3 x 12 W, a G9 model up to 3 x 6 W and an E14 up to 3 x 7 W. These maximum wattages and the number of light points make the difference, more than the style of the fixture.
How do you wire several lights to a single electrical supply?
They are connected in parallel from the same live, neutral and earth terminal block: each light starts from the supply. A 3 lamp ceiling light has only one connection point on the ceiling, since its three sockets are already linked inside. To wire 3 lights in series, forget that solution: the voltage is shared and brightness drops.
Will an LED ceiling light do the job in a living room?
Yes if the source matches the mood you want, knowing that an integrated LED cannot be replaced: it lasts as long as the fixture. A model with a GU10, E27, G9 or E14 socket, on the other hand, lets you choose the bulb and correct it if it dims. Some models are stated as dimmer compatible.
Original ceiling light: how do you choose one?
Look at what sets it apart on the ceiling: the shape of the base, the diffuser material and the number of light points. In this selection, the variants range from round to wide square and to the three-point bar, in glass, steel, brass or wood, in white, black, gold, green or brown.
How do you recognise a real salt lamp?
A salt lamp is cut from a block of rock salt, often pink to orange, whose surface keeps veins and irregularities; light passes through it and takes on a warm tone. It is a decorative family, different from a 3 lamp ceiling light fixed to the ceiling, which spreads light over three chosen points.
