Allow one wall light every two to three metres along a hallway, and a single one above the entrance console. This selection brings together hallway wall lights in the shape of a tube, square, ball or opal glass globe, in aluminium, steel or wood, with G9, GU10, E14, E27 or GX53 sockets.
Which wall lights should you choose for an entrance or hallway?
A hallway wall light is fitted above a console, beside the door or along the hallway, and serves as both a marker and supplementary light. The models in this collection come in tube, square, ball or opal glass shapes, in aluminium, steel or wood, with G9, GU10, E14 or E27 sockets.
Which wall lights for an entrance?
First work out what the light needs to do: mark the arrival point, graze the wall without dazzling, or light a mirror and a piece of furniture. A wall light placed at shoulder height, beside the door, accompanies the act of coming in and putting down your keys. Above a console, it lights the surface without taking up space. In a long entrance, two or three identical modules punctuate the route and replace a ceiling light that flattens everything. The full range of Designix luminaires covers these uses, and the hallway wall lights range groups the formats that can be repeated.
Tube, square or ball: which shape for an entrance?
Aluminium tube modules are the most compact: 8.5 cm wide by 10 to 30 cm high, such as Ulyana, Kivara or the long-format Eldris. They fit on a return wall, between two doors, where nothing else will go. Opal glass globes and balls, such as the Velranora opal glass wall light, diffuse more widely and read better on a wide wall. Slotted squares, like Kavena, project light upwards or downwards and structure a bare wall. For a narrow hallway, an adjustable cylinder such as Zennorina with its adjustable arm directs the light where you walk.
How to light an entrance with a wall light?
In an entrance, lighting is thought of in two stages: an ambient light that guides towards the living room and a stronger light over the work surface or mirror. The wall lights in the collection are mostly LED, and also work in the living room or bedroom.
What are the lighting ideas for an entrance?
Layer two sources. The first marks the passage: one wall light above the console, another at the end of the hallway. The second lights the useful area: mirror, coat hooks, shoe cabinet. On a dark wall, a wall light that grazes the surface draws a halo and visually enlarges the space. In an entrance open to the living room, the same family of shapes can continue: see how to light a living room with coherent models, and keep the same colour so the eye does not catch. The collection is also designed for restful rooms, with bedroom wall lights in a lower format.
Which light colour for an entrance or living room?
Models with a stated temperature are warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K. That is the comfortable reference for a hallway as well as a living room: faces do not harden, wood and beige keep their warmth. As a rule, neutral white (around 4000 K) is reserved for work areas, kitchen or office, and cold white is avoided in an entrance, where you often pass in the morning and evening. For circulation, 8 to 15 W is usually enough.
What are the trends for wall lights in 2026?
The most represented models in this collection are minimalist and modern, often tube-shaped, in aluminium or steel. Light wood and black finishes complete the selection, with a few Nordic-inspired pieces. The trend is towards slim, adjustable formats that light without cluttering the wall.
Slim and adjustable formats
The module 8.5 cm wide by 6.5 cm deep almost disappears, and that is what appeals in an entrance where wall space is limited. Adjustable 360-degree cylinders meet another desire: no longer being stuck with the direction of the light. Our full luminaire catalogue covers both directions, from the discreet format to the piece you can adjust.
The return of light wood and black finishes
Light wood and steel often coexist on the same model, such as Klementina, and bring a warmth that metal alone does not give. At the same time, matte black finishes have settled on light walls as well as painted walls, because they draw the line of the wall light. These two families work well together on a staircase or landing, provided you keep to a single register per volume: to go further, see how to light a stairwell.
Which socket and wattage for an LED wall light?
The socket determines the bulb you can fit. Here, G9 and GU10 are common for compact formats, E27 for adjustable cylinders and GX53 for the flattest wall lights. The exact socket and wattage are given on each product page. Check the socket before buying the bulb.
Which LED wall lights for an entrance?
Almost the entire selection is LED, which simplifies the choice: no transformer needed, a long lifespan and low consumption for a point that is on several hours a day. G9 remains the most common on small globes and squares, GU10 on tubes, because it accepts an adjustable bulb. GX53 is fitted to very flat wall lights, such as Movella, which barely protrude from the wall. E27 appears on wider models and on dimmable models, where the bulb is easy to replace.
Which wattage for a hallway?
8 to 10 W is enough for a marker wall light, bearing in mind that a hallway is often covered by several points rather than one strong source. 15 W suits models with a large diffuser or rooms that also serve the living room. A very dark entrance is handled by adding a second point, not by overpowering the first.
| Socket | Observed wattage | Models | Benefit in an entrance |
|---|---|---|---|
| G9 | 8 W | Kavena, Velranora, Yolina, Orlo, Ariranano | Compact format, focused light |
| GU10 | 10 W | Klementina, Ulyana, Orvalla, Kivara, Eldris | Adjustable bulb, handy in a hallway |
| E27 | 15 W | Zennorina, Halia, Harper, Boisa | Wider beam, adjustable models |
| E14 | 10 W | Flovena | Wall light with built-in switch |
| GX53 | 10 W | Movella | Very flat wall light against the wall |
Which material and colour for an entrance wall light?
Steel and aluminium dominate the collection, followed by wood, glass and a little plastic. In terms of colour, white and black are the most common, then brown, beige and green. A white metal disappears on a light wall, black structures the wall, wood warms it.
Wood or metal for an entrance wall light?
Metal gives clean lines and easy maintenance, which matters in a passage where bags and coats brush the walls. Wood brings a grain and warmth that steel does not, with dry dusting. The wood and steel duo, as on Klementina, light wood and steel, combines both. If you are after a continuous mood in a restful room, wood wall lights continue the same register, as does the wood version for the living room. Opal glass, for its part, diffuses without dazzling and suits light walls.
Which colour for a dark wall?
On a dark wall, a black model disappears and only the light remains visible, giving a clean halo. White or beige, on the other hand, creates a sharp contrast with the wall. On a white wall, gold aluminium, taupe or green add a touch of colour without shouting. One colour per volume remains the simplest rule to follow.
| Shape | Where to place it | Models | Actual dimensions | Socket and wattage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tube | Return wall, pillar, side of door | Orvalla, Kivara, Eldris, Ulyana | from 8.5 x 6.5 x 10 cm to 16 x 8 x 16 cm | GU10, 10 W |
| Square | Flat wall above a console | Kavena | 15 x 15 cm, 2.4 cm deep | G9, 8 W |
| Globe or ball | Wide wall, spacious entrance | Velranora, Yolina, Orlo | from 14 x 12 x 12 cm to 25 x 6 x 67 cm | G9, 8 W |
| Adjustable cylinder | Long hallway, directed lighting | Zennorina, Halia | from 10 x 10 x 21 cm to 12 x 10 x 37 cm | E27, 15 W, dimmable |
| Wood with exposed socket | Warm entrance, wood decor | Boisa, Harper, Klementina | from 8 x 6 x 30 cm to 19 x 10 x 24 cm | E27 or GU10 |
| Flat with diffuser | Small wall, narrow passage | Movella, Ariranano | from 12 x 10 x 6 cm to 17 x 12 x 12 cm | GX53 or G9 |
Can an outdoor wall light be fitted near the front door?
The majority of wall lights in this collection are IP20, intended for dry indoor use, and only a small part is rated IP54 or IP65. Under a canopy, an indoor wall light may be enough; on a facade exposed to rain, choose an outdoor wall light designed for moisture.
What the IP rating means
IP20 means the product is protected against fingers and ordinary dust, but not against water splashes: this applies to the vast majority of models here. IP54 adds protection against dust and splashes, for sheltered outdoor use. IP65 resists water jets, which corresponds to a truly exposed facade. The outdoor wall lights and the IP65 selection group these protected references.
Sheltered entrance or entrance exposed to rain?
Under a roof overhang, a porch or a canopy, an IP20 indoor wall light remains possible, provided no driving rain reaches it. On a bare facade, with no protection, an outdoor model is needed: look at the terrace lighting rather than the indoor selection. The question is not the strength of the metal, but water getting into the wiring.
How to install, maintain and match an entrance wall light?
Choose the fixing according to the actual format: a module 8.5 cm wide fits on a return wall, a ball model 67 cm high reads better on a wide wall. Maintenance is limited to a soft cloth; glass and aluminium clean more easily than wood.
Where to fix a wall light in a narrow entrance?
Check the depth before drilling: from 6 to 12 cm depending on the models, which changes everything in a 90 cm passage. Fix at around 1.50 m from the floor for a circulation wall light, higher (around 1.70 to 1.80 m) above a console, so the beam falls on the surface and not in your eyes. Above a piece of furniture, centre the wall light on its width. In a hallway, keep regular spacing between points: regularity is what gives the impression of a controlled volume.
Can an entrance wall light be used in a modern kitchen decor?
Yes, provided you choose a discreet format and light directed at the work surface. An aluminium tube wall light of 10 W goes unnoticed above a worktop, while an opal glass globe softens a dining corner. Wall lights for a modern kitchen follow this principle, and a small module also works as a wall light for a WC.
Frequently asked questions about entrance wall lights
What are the lighting ideas for an entrance?
Combine two sources: a wall light that acts as a marker above a console or beside the door, and a more diffuse light for the rest of the volume. Here, LED wall lights of 8 to 15 W can be used alone or in pairs along a hallway, in warm white.
Which wall light for a WC or small hallway?
In a dry, narrow room, a small module is enough: 10 W aluminium wall lights, in a tube format 8.5 cm wide, fit on a short wall without cluttering it. The collection is mostly IP20, intended for indoor use; in a damp area, look instead at IP44 or IP65 models.
Can an outdoor wall light be installed near the front door?
Only a small part of this selection is rated IP54 or IP65, the rest being IP20 for dry indoor use. For an unsheltered entrance, it is better to choose a dedicated outdoor wall light, placed under a canopy or sheltered by a roof overhang.
Which light colour should you choose for an entrance or living room?
Models with a stated temperature are warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, a comfortable range in a hallway as well as a living room. Avoid sources that are too cold in an entrance: they harden faces and the appearance of wood or beige materials.
Do you need a dimmable wall light in a hallway?
Dimmers are only present on a small part of the selection, especially the 15 W adjustable cylinders such as Zennorina and Halia. In an entrance, they let you lower the light in the evening and light brightly when looking for your keys, provided you have a compatible switch.
