Start with the diameter: 350 to 400 mm for a hallway, entryway or small kitchen, 500 mm for a bedroom, 600 to 800 mm for a living room or dining room. The whole selection runs on LED, with metal as the dominant material, mostly IP20, and most models accept a dimmer.

Which black metal ceiling light should you choose by room?
The choice starts with the room: in a living room and a bedroom, 500 to 800 mm domes cover a large surface, while a small square spotlight suits a hallway, entryway or kitchen. Format and light temperature come next.
Black metal ceiling lights for the living room
On the ceiling, black draws a clean line and the metal sends the flux downwards, towards the table and the floor, without glare. A flat 800 mm dome, such as the large 800 mm dome, hangs only 60 mm down and does not crush the room height. The 600 mm format in 43 W handles a dining room. See also black ceiling lights designed for the living room.
Black and white metal ceiling lights for a bedroom
In a bedroom, you look for a more discreet ceiling light: 400 to 500 mm, in warm white. The ring ceiling light for the bedroom mixes metal, iron and acrylic and works near the bed as well as in the centre. For a softer contrast than black alone, look at the white and black duo, which keeps the dark rim without darkening the room.
What light does a black metal ceiling light give?
The selection runs on LED with three temperatures: warm white from 2700 to 3500 K, neutral white from 3500 to 4500 K and cool white from 4500 to 6500 K. Warm white suits relaxing rooms, neutral white suits work rooms. A large part of the models accept a dimmer.
Warm white or cool white: which temperature?
Black metal does not eat the light, it frames it downwards. The kelvins decide the mood: around 2700 to 3500 K, the light is golden and restful, ideal for a bedroom or living room. Between 3500 and 4500 K, it is balanced, with no dominant tint, which suits a kitchen or an office. Above 4500 K, it becomes clean and white. CCT models let you switch from one shade to another.
| Temperature | Kelvins | Mood | Room where it stands out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm white | 2700 to 3500 K | Golden, restful light | Bedroom, living room, hallway |
| Neutral white | 3500 to 4500 K | Balanced light, no dominant tint | Kitchen, office, entryway |
| Cool white | 4500 to 6500 K | Clean and white light | Kitchen, entryway, work |
What is a dimmer for in everyday use?
A room does not need the same intensity at 8 am and at 10 pm. A dimmer-compatible ceiling light is adjusted to the moment, provided the wall switch is also a dimmer, or the model is controlled by remote. Check the mention before ordering: it is often what separates two domes of the same diameter. For a homogeneous light base, browse the black LED ceiling lights.
Black chandelier or ceiling light: how to decide?
A ceiling light is fixed directly to the ceiling, which frees the room and suits low ceilings. Ring or petal models in black metal give the visual scale of a chandelier without dropping into the volume. A hanging chandelier is reserved for rooms with good height.
How to choose a black living room chandelier?
Above roughly 2.60 m of height, a hanging piece becomes possible. Below that, a large flat format gives the same composition effect without blocking movement: the 600 mm dome in 43 W covers a medium living room and works near the sofa. Black models with a modern design play on circles and volumes rather than pendants.
Black industrial chandelier: how to recognise it?
The industrial register shows in exposed metal, simple lines and a matte black finish, sometimes combined with smoked glass. Metal and iron structures carry this spirit, with a direct ceiling fixing rather than a hanging suspension. See the industrial version of black metal and the workshop spirit in black.
Which diameter for which surface?
The diameter follows the surface to light: 350 to 400 mm are enough for a hallway, entryway or small kitchen, 500 mm for a bedroom, and 600 to 800 mm for a living room or dining room. The height of the fixture matters as much as its diameter.
| Diameter | Recommended room | What it changes | Example model |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 to 24 cm | Hallway, entryway, kitchen | Targeted lighting, very compact | Small Zephyr Sky cube ceiling light |
| Ø 350 mm | Bedroom, kitchen, hallway | Compact dome | Zambelis D350 30W CCT dimmable |
| Ø 400 mm | Bedroom, office, entryway | Versatile format, 60 mm height | Zambelis D400 28W dimmable |
| Ø 500 mm | Living room, dining room | Large flat dome, 110 mm height | Zambelis D500 30W CCT dimmable |
| Ø 600 mm | Living room, dining room | Large covered surface, 43 W dimmable | Zambelis D600 43W dimmable |
| Ø 800 mm | Large living room, open space | Very large flat format, 52 W dimmable | Zambelis D800 52W dimmable |
Small square spotlight or large dome?
The small format is for lighting a passage, not a living room: the Zephyr Sky square spotlight comes in 12 and 24 cm, in metal and aluminium, for a hallway, entryway or kitchen. The large dome lights a whole surface from a single source, with a softer and wider rendering.
A black ceiling fan: in which case?
When a room heats up in summer without air conditioning, the matte black ceiling fan moves the air while it lights: Ø 1,328 mm, controlled by remote and switch. It requires a solid ceiling and a suitable room.
Metal, aluminium, glass or acrylic: which material?
Metal dominates the selection, sometimes combined with aluminium, iron, glass or acrylic. A smoked or brown glass dome lets the source show and diffuses a soft light, while a solid metal ceiling light sends a more direct light, oriented downwards.
What a glass dome changes
Glass tints the light and makes it less harsh: less contrast on the walls, a more enveloping halo. Smoked glass domes lean towards warm grey, the amber glass variants towards gold. The 350 mm dome in smoked glass and matte black, in 30 W dimmable, gives this softened light over a hallway or bedroom.
Solid metal or acrylic diffuser?
Solid metal, as on the large flat domes, reflects and directs the flux downwards: clear output, a quick wipe to clean. Acrylic diffuses without a hot spot and suits rooms where you look at the ceiling. For a warmer touch, wood combined with black pairs a dark rim with light slats.
How to install a black metal ceiling light?
Installation is done on an existing ceiling outlet, after switching off the power. Most models in the selection are IP20, which makes them suitable for dry rooms; a few are IP44 for a damp room. The connection then depends on the type of source, integrated LED or E27 socket.
Where does IP20 stop?
IP20 protects against contact and dust, not against splashes. An IP20 ceiling light goes in a living room, bedroom, hallway or kitchen away from the splash zone. In a bathroom, IP44 is required in the volume near the sink or bathtub: a few references offer it. Check the rating before buying, it cannot be fixed at installation.
Integrated LED source or E27 socket?
Integrated LED cannot be replaced, but it lasts as long as the fixture and is easy to control. The E27 socket lets you choose the bulb and its intensity, which suits a room whose use changes. Both assemblies connect the same way, on two or three wires depending on the presence of earth. Find the basics in our Designix lighting catalogue.
How to match a black ceiling light with the rest of the room?
A black ceiling light matches a black wall light, a wood and black wall light or matching metal handles. In a red and black bedroom, black is limited to two or three elements to keep the room readable, with the fixture serving as the main anchor point.
Which black wall light or wood and black wall light to match?
The ceiling light holds the top of the room, the wall light lights a wall or a worktop. The simple rule: stay in the same family of black, matte with matte, and keep a close light temperature to avoid two moods. Wood and metal ceiling lights show how wood and metal live together, and the gold and black mix works if you want to warm up the room.
What to do when a black metal wardrobe fills the room?
A large black piece of furniture absorbs light and reflects little brightness. A wide ceiling light, 600 to 800 mm, in neutral or warm white rather than cool white, is better, along with a dimmer to adjust intensity without hardening dark surfaces. For a stronger design, look at black pieces with a crafted design.
Which mistakes should you avoid before buying?
Before buying, check compatibility with a dimmer and the type of source. At Designix, payment is secure, delivery is tracked, returns are possible and customer service remains available.
Dimmer compatibility and warranty
A non-dimmable ceiling light cannot be fixed after installation: check this mention first. Then check the diameter against the room, the weight, the height of the fixture and the type of source. The warranty is 3 years on most models and 2 years on others, which covers the LED part, the most expensive to replace.
Payment, delivery and returns
To choose, check the wattage, the compatibility with a dimmer and the diameter of the dome. IP20 LED models suit dry rooms. If you hesitate between two domes, start from the diameter, then compare modern LED ceiling lights and all the lighting families.
Frequently asked questions
Which black chandelier should you choose for a living room?
For a living room, a large flat format of 600 to 800 mm in 43 or 52 W covers the room without dropping into the volume, and the dimmer lets you adapt the intensity in the evening. A 500 mm model in warm white suits a smaller living room or a room with a low ceiling.
How do you recognise a black industrial chandelier?
The industrial spirit shows in exposed metal, simple lines and a matte black finish, possibly combined with smoked glass. In this selection, ring models and metal and iron structures carry this register, with a direct ceiling fixing rather than a hanging suspension.
Can you install an industrial black wall light with this type of ceiling light?
Yes, and it is often the right match: the black ceiling light holds the top of the room, the industrial black wall light lights the worktop or the wall in depth. Use the same family of black and a close light temperature to avoid two different moods in the same room.
Which designer black bathroom wall light should you choose?
In a damp room, the protection rating comes before style: most models in the selection are IP20, suited to dry rooms, and a few references are IP44. So check the rating before fitting a black wall light above a sink or in a splash zone.
How do you match a red and black bedroom?
Red and black share the roles: black on the fixed lines, red on one or two textile surfaces. A black metal ceiling light, possibly with brown glass, serves as the main black point; warm white light from 2700 to 3500 K keeps the room restful despite the contrast.
