Allow 27 to 35 cm in height for a narrow bedside table, 48 to 63 cm for a living room side table: it is the resting surface that decides the format, not the other way round. These baroque bedside lamps combine a sculpted crystal base with gold or silver finishes, with a shade and cascading pendants, all in E14 or E27 sockets and rated IP20.
What is a baroque bedside lamp and what light does it give?
A baroque bedside lamp is an accent light with a sculpted base, usually in crystal, topped with a shade that softens the light. It sits on a bedside table or a side table, plugs into the mains with an E14 or E27 socket, and stays rated IP20, so it is for dry indoor use only.
What effect in a bedroom in the evening?
When lit, the lamp does not try to light the whole room: it creates a low pool of light at pillow height, leaving the rest of the bedroom in shadow. The crystal of the base and the pendants catch that light and throw it back in small reflections, while the shade filters the rest upwards and downwards. To extend this approach, the selection of design bedside lamps for the bedroom usefully completes a pair of bedside tables.
What a crystal base changes in a living room
Placed on a side table, the same lamp becomes an object you look at before switching it on. Crystal works with transparency and refraction, which gives a living material, different from a solid ceramic or metal base. Multi-arm models, such as Vetrana and its three arms, read as a small sculpture, both off and on. To widen the comparison, see the crystal table lamps.
How do you choose the size of your baroque bedside lamp?
Start from the resting surface: a narrow bedside table takes a model 19 to 35 cm high, a side table 45 to 63 cm. Then comes eye level, sitting on the bed or standing near the furniture. Diameter matters as much as height, because the pendants often overhang the base and need air around them.
| Height and diameter | Where to place it | What it changes | Models in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| 19 to 27 cm high, Ø 10 to 15 cm | Narrow bedside table, small console | Discreet format, targeted accent light | Belnoraro, Rosa, Elinoraro |
| 35 to 48 cm high, Ø 25 to 36 cm | Bedroom bedside table, desk, hallway | Fits under a classic shade | Elinorella, Alberic, Velouria, Luxtella |
| 45 to 55 cm high, Ø 38 to 53 cm | Living room side table, large bedside table | Accent piece, visible pendants | Vespro, Vetrana, Calantha, Fiorita |
| 63 to 71.5 cm high, Ø 46 to 53 cm | Large console, living room corner | Tall silhouette, to place alone | Nernorara, Bienville |
What diameter for a small bedside table?
On a top 30 to 40 cm square, aim for a total diameter of 10 to 15 cm: Rosa, 26 cm high, and Belnoraro, 19 cm, fit in the space left free beside the alarm clock and the book. A wider model would eat up the top and leave no room for anything else.
Large format: where do you place a lamp 63 cm high?
Beyond 48 cm high, the lamp stops being a bedside accessory: Nernorara, 63 cm high and 53 cm in diameter, and Bienville, 71.5 cm, stand alone on a wide console or a living room side table, with at least 20 cm of clearance around the pendants.
Gold or silver baroque bedside lamp: which finish should you choose?
Gold warms an interior with light woods or cream fabrics; silver matches mirrors, cool marbles and grey tones. Most models in the selection are gold, a large part are silver, and many bases carry both finishes: they can therefore sit together in the same room.
White baroque bedside lamps: what place for porcelain?
Silverthistle is the white reference in the selection: porcelain base, silver finish, 58 cm high and 36 cm in diameter, E27 socket and 60 W max. White breaks up the visual mass of a dark bedside area and matches raw textiles. For other light materials, compare with the ceramic bedside lamps.
Black baroque bedside lamps: which model should you turn to?
The selection runs from gold to silver via white, with no black version. If it is the dark tone you are after, turn to the black metal bedside lamps or the black wood models: the effect will be more graphic, with no crystal or pendants.
Which socket and which bulb for a baroque bedside lamp?
The E14 socket, small screw thread, is fitted to most models in the selection; the E27, wider, concerns about a third of them. The maximum wattage appears on each product page, at 60 W or 100 W max: it concerns the screw-in bulb, not a guaranteed light output.
| Socket | Bulb to use | Wattage shown on the product page | Models concerned |
|---|---|---|---|
| E14, small screw thread | Screw-in E14 bulb or candle | To read on the model's product page | Calantha, Nernorara, Vespro, Vetrana, Elinorella, Elinoraro |
| E27, large screw thread | Screw-in E27 bulb or globe | 60 W max on Silverthistle, 100 W max on Bienville | Silverthistle, Bienville, Fiorita, Velouria, Alberic |
| All references | Dry indoor use | IP20 | Entire selection |
E14 or E27 bulb: how do you recognise your socket?
Measure the diameter of the thread: about 14 mm for an E14, 27 mm for an E27. On a lamp with pendants, first unscrew the shade ring before removing the bulb, otherwise you pull on the mounts. If in doubt, the model's product page settles it better than a forced attempt.
Can you put an LED bulb in a baroque lamp?
Yes, as long as the socket matches and the bulb wattage stays below the stated maximum. An LED gives off less heat, which is welcome in a closed shade. Choose a rather warm colour temperature, around 2700 K, to keep the golden reflections in the crystal. To go further, see the LED bedroom lamps.
Where should you install a baroque table lamp: bedroom, living room or hallway?
On a bedside table, a lamp 27 to 48 cm high keeps eye level at the sheet; in a living room, a model 50 cm in diameter becomes an accent piece on a side table or a console. All references in the selection are IP20: dry indoor use only.
Which lamps for a bedroom bedside table?
Two identical lamps on either side of the bed give a balanced bedside area, provided the same height is respected on each side. Elinorella, 35 cm high and 30 cm in diameter, fits on most bedside tables without hiding the wall. If the top is very narrow, a model 19 to 27 cm is enough.
The most beautiful living room lamps: how do you choose them?
Look for consistency with the furniture that carries them: a marble side table calls for silver, a walnut console for gold. The design living room lamps and the modern living room pieces show the range of possible silhouettes before you decide.
Two organisational points, often raised: for several lamps on the same supply, group them on a power strip or a junction box, after switching off the power, and add up the bulb wattages to stay within the circuit limit. For ceiling spotlights, spread them along the circulation paths rather than above the bed, and complete with a table light.
How do you match and care for a baroque crystal lamp?
A soft microfibre cloth is enough on crystal; avoid abrasive products and standing water on the metal parts. For matching, gold pairs with brass and warm woods, silver with mirrors and cool tones, keeping a single finish family per area.
How do you clean the crystal and pendants of a lamp?
Unplug the lamp, remove the bulb, then dust dry with a cloth or a soft brush, pendant by pendant. A small amount of glass cleaner on a cloth, never sprayed directly, revives the shine without leaving marks. Dry the metal parts immediately to avoid marks.
Which furniture goes with a gold lamp?
A gold base sits well on patinated brass, warm wood, a beige marble top. Avoid piling up three metal families in the same room: keep gold in the majority and leave brushed steel to another area. For dark, contrasting moods, look at the gold and black colourways.
Original bedside lamp: baroque, mushroom, driftwood or Italian design?
Baroque plays with crystal, pendants and reflections; the mushroom lamp relies on an opaque dome shade, driftwood on a raw material, Italian design on geometric lines. The choice is made on the effect you want in the room, not on a style label.
Mushroom or baroque bedside lamp: what is the difference in light?
The opaque dome of the mushroom lamp sends a wrapping light downwards and to the side, with no transparency. The crystal of a baroque lamp, on the other hand, lets light through and scatters it in reflections. At equal size, the mushroom lamp looks more compact and more discreet; the baroque one, more present. Also see the Nordic models, close to this dome spirit.
Driftwood bedside lamp and Italian design table lamp: two opposite worlds?
Yes, and that is precisely what sets them apart from baroque. Driftwood embraces a bleached, irregular material; Italian design prefers metal and glass with clean lines. A Tiffany lamp, for its part, assembles pieces of coloured glass held by metal strips: it is not baroque, even if both work with glass. For contemporary silhouettes, see the adjustable lamps and the design LED lamps.
Worth remembering on wording: you write "bedside lamp", with "bedside" as one word, and "bedside lamps" in the plural. The light fixture is distinct from the bedside table, which is the piece of furniture.
Frequently asked questions about baroque bedside lamps
Original bedside lamp: how do you recognise one?
An original bedside lamp stands out by its silhouette and its material, not by its size: a sculpted crystal base, cascading pendants, a conical or scalloped shade. It remains readable even when switched off, and stands out without needing to be lit.
Mushroom bedside lamp: what does it look like?
The mushroom lamp uses an opaque dome shade set on a short base, which gives a rounded silhouette and a wrapping light. It is the opposite of the baroque pendant lamp, where the crystal lets reflections through. Both exist, for different moods.
What is a Tiffany lamp?
A Tiffany lamp refers to a light fixture whose shade is made of pieces of glass joined by metal strips, using the process developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The coloured glass filters the light and draws a pattern. It is not a baroque style, even if both play with glass.
Italian design bedside lamp: what comes closest to it in baroque?
Italian design favours geometric lines, metal and glass; baroque works with crystal, pendants and reflections. Both seek a strong silhouette. In this selection, the models with cascading pendants and sculpted bases come closest to it.
How do you connect several lamps to a single electrical supply?
Group the lamps on a power strip or a junction box connected to the supply, after switching off the power. Add up the bulb wattages to stay within the circuit limit, and entrust the connection at the consumer unit to an electrician if there is only one point.
