What kind of toilet lighting and which colour temperature should you choose?

In a WC, a warm white light (2700 to 3500 K) stays the most comfortable in the evening, particularly for the LED models in the selection. Neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) lights a windowless room more sharply. The wattages listed range from 3 W on a wall light to 40 W on a ceiling light.

Toilet lighting: which colour temperature should you choose?

Around 2700 to 3500 K, the light leans towards a soft yellow: this is the register for quick visits and rooms without a make-up mirror. Between 3500 and 4500 K, the rendering becomes more neutral, useful in a windowless toilet where you want to distinguish colours. Cool white light in a toilet: a good idea?

Above 4500 K, the light turns blue and hardens features: few models in the selection sit in this register. The effect gives an impression of sharpness in a WC used in passing, but it tires the eyes in the evening and ages pale materials. Keep this rendering for a hallway or an entrance rather than a cramped room.

Which type of light fitting should you choose for a WC?

Toilet ceiling light

Toilet wall light

Toilet pendant light

How many lumens are needed to light a WC?

The product pages in this selection give wattage rather than luminous flux in lumens, so no single figure would be reliable. It includes sources of 3 W, 12 W, 25 W and 40 W. In a small toilet, a model around 12 W covers everyday use; a larger room benefits from a higher wattage. Over 2 to 4 m², a single light point is enough; beyond that, two sources are better than one very bright one. The Decart, LED ceiling light in neutral white, lights a hallway WC in this way.

IP20 or IP44: which protection rating for a toilet?

The protection rating describes resistance to water and dust. Most light fittings in the selection are IP20, suited to a dry room. IP44 models, such as the KOBAN A IP44 pendant or the BORRA A IP44 wall light, withstand splashes, useful near a water point.

Why choose IP44 in a toilet?

IP44 protects against solid objects larger than 1 mm and against water splashes, not against immersion. In a well-ventilated toilet with no shower, IP20 remains the standard in the selection. IP44 becomes useful when the room is damp, poorly ventilated, or when the light fitting sits directly above a washbasin. Many of these models combine metal and glass, like the glass light fitting range.

Do you need IP44 near the washbasin?

Near a water point, a reinforced rating shields the light fitting from splashes. In practice, IP44 is reserved for the model placed within reach of the tap; elsewhere, an IP20 does the job. The BORRA A wall light in 20 cm comes in an IP20 version, handy for a room that stays dry.

Which cap and which bulb for a toilet light fitting?

Four cap families coexist in this selection: integrated LED, G9, E14 and E27. G9 sockets equip most wall lights and pendants, E14 and E27 caps are found on fittings with a visible bulb, and LED modules cannot be replaced. Around a third of the models accept a dimmer.

Which cap for a toilet wall light?

Can a toilet light fitting be dimmable?

Yes for around a third of the models, especially those with a G9 cap such as the BORRA A wall lights and the KOBAN A pendant. Dimming is useful in a toilet adjoining a bedroom, to lower the light at night. Check that the bulb fitted is indeed dimmable, otherwise the control will have no effect.

How do you choose the shape, colour and style of a toilet light fitting?

The most common shapes are round or globe-shaped, then oval, tubular and square. In terms of colour, black and white dominate, ahead of gold, bronze and silver. Modern and contemporary styles cover most of the models, with a few industrial, luxury or jungle pieces for an original WC light fitting.

Original WC light fitting: which pieces stand out?

An original WC light fitting is about shape and material more than wattage.
