A Sompex lighting fixture comes down to three things: its size, its material and how it is powered. At Designix, the German brand mostly appears as table lamps, many of which run wirelessly on battery, in a few floor lamps and in outdoor lighting, mainly in aluminium and in warm white light.
What is Sompex?
Sompex is a German family-run lighting company: products are developed in Germany and then manufactured in Asia, and the brand makes Villeroy & Boch light fixtures under licence. It communicates with the motto Design for Life and sits in the mid-price range.
A German family-run lighting company
The brand works like a family house: a small team designs its own collections instead of reselling supplier catalogues. Design stays in Germany, production happens in Asia, which explains the mid-range pricing. You find this approach across all Designix light fixtures, where it sits alongside other European manufacturers.
Villeroy & Boch and the motto Design for Life
Sompex makes the light fixtures of the house of Villeroy & Boch, known for its ceramics, under licence. The motto Design for Life sums up the rest: objects made to serve every day, that you move, switch on with one hand and set down without thinking. Design comes before decorative effect.
Which Sompex lamps are available at Designix?
At Designix, the Sompex range reads in three families: outdoor lighting, the largest, table lamps, many of which run wirelessly on battery, and a few floor lamps. The dominant materials are aluminium and plastic, with black, white, green and anthracite finishes.
Sompex table lamp: the models you set down
Table lamps form the visible heart of the brand here. The wireless black Boro fits in one hand, the white Flora at 29.5 cm stands taller for a reading corner, and the black Bling table lamp acts as a tall accent lamp. Around them, our lighting department gathers the available finishes.
Sompex outdoor light fixtures: the largest family
Outdoor is the brand's largest family, with protection ratings suited to use outside. As a rule, you choose IP44 for a spot sheltered under a canopy and IP65 for direct exposure to rain. If you are mainly after an indoor lamp, the whole lighting collection gives you the overview.
How does a wireless Sompex lamp work?
A wireless Sompex lamp runs on battery: it sits wherever you want, with no cable or socket nearby, and moves easily. The wireless models in this collection are in aluminium, in warm white light at 2700 to 3500 K, with a maximum output of 2.3 to 2.5 W and a dimmer depending on the reference.
What output for a wireless Sompex lamp?
Allow 2.5 W maximum for the Boro and 2.3 W maximum for the Flora. These are ambient outputs: they light a tray, a book or a patch of wall, not a whole room. To read comfortably, aim for a small area close by rather than a large volume. The anthracite version of the Boro shows the same output as the other finishes.
Warm white 2700-3500 K: what light in practice?
These values stay in warm white: at 2700 K the light leans towards the orange of evening, around 3500 K it becomes a little more neutral without turning cold white. In practice, it is the shade you expect from an accent lamp or a bedside lamp, the one that does not wake you up. The dimmer lets you lower the intensity in the evening and raise it to read.
Which Sompex table lamp should you choose for each room?
It all depends on the space available. The Boro, in aluminium, measures Ø 9 cm by 20 cm high and runs wirelessly. The Flora stands 29.5 cm high. The Bling table lamp reaches 56 cm in black metal. The Doggy, in resin, takes an E14 bulb.
Boro, Flora or Bling: which size for which room?
On a bedside table or a small side table, the Boro takes up less than ten centimetres in diameter. On a sideboard, in a hallway or on a window sill, the Flora adds height without width. On a side unit where you want a stronger presence, the Bling table lamp reaches 56 cm. The white Boro in aluminium and the Flora in chrome finish cover the first two situations.
Doggy and its E14 socket: for what use?
The Doggy is an object lamp: 17.5 cm long, 40 cm deep and 30 cm high, in resin, with an E14 bulb to supply yourself. The E14 socket is the small screw socket, common on accent lamps and globes. You therefore choose the bulb temperature yourself, from very warm to neutral, depending on the mood you want.
| Use | Model | Size | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedside, small side table | Boro | Ø 9 cm / H 20 cm | Discreet footprint, wireless, warm white light |
| Reading corner, sideboard, hallway | Flora | L 5.5 / D 5.5 / H 29.5 cm | Slim vertical shape, wireless |
| Side unit, ambience | Bling table lamp | D 12 cm / H 56 cm | Taller, in black metal |
| Floor, near an armchair | Bling floor lamp 128 cm | D 15 cm / H 128 cm | Lights from the floor, dimmer |
| Large volume, living corner | Bling floor lamp 140 cm | D 20 cm / H 140 cm | The tallest of the formats shown |
| Object lamp, offbeat decor | Doggy | L 17.5 / D 40 / H 30 cm | Resin base, E14 bulb |
Should you choose a floor lamp or a Sompex table lamp?
It all depends on the surface to light and the clear height. A Sompex floor lamp such as the Bling comes in 128 and 140 cm: it lights from the floor, near an armchair or in a large volume. A table lamp slips onto a piece of furniture, at 20, 29.5 or 56 cm.
Bling floor lamp 128 or 140 cm: what is the difference?
The Bling floor lamp at 128 cm measures 15 cm deep and tops out at 5 W: it suits a reading corner or an armchair. Its 140 cm version goes to 20 cm deep and 10 W, for a larger volume or a room where the light must carry further. Two footprints, two uses.
Where should you place a wireless table lamp?
Anywhere a socket is missing: on a shelf, a ledge, a bedside table, a worktop. As it has no cable, it moves to the sofa in the evening and comes back the next day. Just check that the surface is stable and that the height matches the use, a low lamp lighting a surface, a tall one lighting more widely.

Which materials and finishes should you choose at Sompex?
Aluminium dominates this collection, completed by metal, resin and plastic depending on the model. On the finish side, black and silver come first, followed by white, gold and anthracite. Aluminium covers the wireless Boro and Flora lamps, resin the Doggy, metal the Bling models.
Aluminium, metal, resin: which material for which use?
Aluminium is light and does not rust, which explains its use on wireless lamps that are moved often. Metal gives the Bling models a heavier base, useful for a floor lamp. Resin allows less strict shapes, such as that of the black Doggy with E14 socket. Plastic appears on some models, more as a complement than as a structure.
Black, white, gold, anthracite: matching the finish
Black disappears on a dark piece of furniture and structures a light interior. White blends into a painted wall and lightens a dark corner. Silver and gold catch the light without switching it on, as on the gold Boro or the rose gold Boro with copper finish. Anthracite stays neutral between the two. To decide, compare the finishes side by side in the lighting catalogue.
How do you install and care for a Sompex light fixture?
Wireless lamps are placed and moved with no electrical installation, and the Doggy takes an E14 bulb. For care, a soft cloth is enough on aluminium, metal and resin. Check the dimensions, maximum output and protection rating on each product page.
Can I use a Sompex lamp outside?
It all depends on the protection rating shown on the model's page, not on the brand in general. An IP44 suits a sheltered spot, an IP65 direct exposure to rain: these are the usual markers in the sector. For outdoors, better to choose a model intended for it than to take an indoor lamp outside. The rest of all our light fixtures covers both uses.
Caring for aluminium, metal and resin
A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough for the body of the lamp. Avoid abrasive products on aluminium and glossy finishes, which scratch the surface. For the resin of the gold Doggy in resin, a simple dusting is enough. On a model with a bulb, cut the power before replacing the E14 bulb.
Why buy a Sompex light fixture at Designix?
Designix presents the available Sompex models with their real dimensions, materials and characteristics, and shows the current price on each product page. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and customer service: you compare finishes and sizes before confirming your order.
Tracked delivery, returns and secure payment
Every order ships with tracking, is paid for by secure payment and can be returned under the conditions in force. The customer service team answers questions about dimensions or bulb compatibility before purchase. A table lamp is chosen first for the space it will occupy: measure, then open the model's page to confirm.
How do you choose between two finishes?
First find the size that matches your furniture, then the finish that fits the rest. The rust finish of the wireless lamp warms a wooden interior, the chrome Boro matches metal parts, the chrome Doggy stays in the same register. Dimensions, maximum output and type of power supply appear on each product page: that is where you confirm, before ordering from the Designix lighting department.
