Measure the run you need to cover, note the available supply voltage and check the IP rating: these three points decide everything with RGB LED neon lights. This flexible linear fixture diffuses a controllable colour along its whole length and can be mounted on a wall, ceiling, in a niche or under a cabinet, as direct or indirect light.
What is an RGB LED neon light?
An RGB LED neon light is a flexible linear fixture whose LED source shows the colour chosen by remote control or app. Its shape echoes the neon tube, but the hue can be changed and the brightness adjusted. It is fixed to a wall, ceiling, inside a niche or in an aluminium profile, and is first and foremost used to draw a line of light.
The difference from a white LED strip lies in the control: where white simply lights, RGB neon colours. For useful lighting in a room, you should therefore look elsewhere, for example at our lighting collection, and keep neon for accents, outlines and niche backdrops.
RGBIC LED neon or RGBW LED neon, what are the differences?
Classic RGB shows a single colour along the whole length. RGBW adds a dedicated white LED, which allows you to genuinely light a worktop or a room, in addition to colouring. RGBIC, on the other hand, manages several hues at the same time on the same strip: gradients, waves, animations that follow the line.
Flexible RGB LED neon: what shape of light?
A flexible neon diffuses a continuous line, with no visible light points, unlike a strip with exposed LEDs. The result is softer and follows the curves of a cabinet or a wall. That is what makes it an ambient light rather than a main light source.
Is it possible to replace a neon tube with an LED neon?
Yes, if the length and the type of power supply match. Note the voltage, the mounting method and the IP rating before removing the old tube. LED neon uses less power and can be controlled in colour, but a poorly protected or poorly supplied model will fail, and a tube fixed with clips does not necessarily accept adhesive.
230 V or 12-24 V LED neon: how to choose?
230 V connects directly to the mains, with no visible transformer, which simplifies a renovation. 12 V and 24 V go through a transformer or driver, to be housed near the line. They are better suited to damp areas and long runs, because low voltage limits risks and voltage drop.
Replacing a neon: what to measure first
- The exact length of the tube and the distance between mounting points.
- The voltage available at the supply point.
- The type of support: ceiling, wall, profile, niche.
- The IP rating of the old tube if the room is damp.
- The location of the future controller or remote control.
Once these measurements are taken, compare with a ceiling light if the line also needs to illuminate, and keep the neon for accent.
Which RGB LED neon to choose for a living room, a shop window or a ceiling?
A living room calls for a continuous line on the ceiling, in a niche or behind a cabinet, for indirect light. A shop window needs sharp outlines and reliable control. Under a kitchen cabinet, you need white in addition to colour, so RGBW. The point to check changes every time: length, power supply, available white.
| Room or use | Recommended mounting | Desired result | To check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Line on the ceiling or in a niche | Coloured indirect light | Length and power supply |
| Kitchen | Under upper cabinet | Worktop lighting | White available in RGBW |
| Bedroom | Behind the headboard | Soft ambience | Adjustable brightness |
| Shop window | Outlines and lines | Highlighting products | IP rating and control |
| Outdoors or bathroom | Under shelter, along a wall | Decorative accent | High IP rating |
Which RGB LED neon for a living room?
In a living room, aim for a line that is not directly visible: above a bookcase, in a cornice or behind the sofa. The neon colours the wall without dazzling. For reading or entertaining, allow for a white complement, to be found among living room lights, between 2700 K and 3000 K for a warm tone.
Which RGB LED neon for a shop window?
In a shop window, the line underlines outlines and separates products from the background. Favour stable control and sufficient protection if the window opens to the outside. Many shops complete it with shop and retail lights to keep white lighting on the items and colour on the outline.
Cuttable LED strip, how does it work?
A cuttable LED strip is cut only on the printed marks, spaced a few centimetres apart depending on the model. Cutting between two marks breaks the circuit and turns off everything after it. After cutting, each piece must be re-powered, or connected with a connector designed for that specific strip.
Can a cuttable LED strip be extended?
Yes, by adding a segment compatible with the same controller. Beyond a certain length, the voltage drops at the end of the line and the colour dims: it is then better to power the strip at both ends, or split the line into two runs. There is no point piling up extensions on a single point.
How to fix a flexible RGB LED neon?
The adhesive holds on a smooth, dry, dust-free surface. On a ceiling, damaged wall or uneven support, switch to clips or an aluminium profile, more reliable over time. The profile also provides a diffuser that softens the line. For the whole lighting of a room, compare with our indoor lighting range.
RGBIC, RGBW or DMX: which control to choose?
RGB shows a single colour along the whole length, often by remote control. RGBW adds white to genuinely illuminate. RGBIC allows several colours simultaneously on the same line. DMX, for its part, is used for long, synchronised scenes, when several zones must react together. The choice therefore depends on the desired effect, not on the length.
| Type | Colours | Control | Where to install it |
|---|---|---|---|
| RGB LED neon | One colour at a time along the whole line | Remote, app, dimmer | Living room, shop window, ceiling, cabinet |
| RGBW LED neon | Colours and dedicated white | Remote, app | Kitchen, office, room to be lit |
| RGBIC LED neon | Several colours on the same line | App, scenes | Decor, gaming, shop window |
| RGB DMX LED neon | Controlled and synchronised scenes | DMX controller | Long shop window, stage, event |
RGBIC LED neon: what use?
RGBIC is suitable when the colour must move along the line: gradient behind a screen, wave along a wall, scene that follows music. It requires a compatible controller and a control app. For a fixed colour, a simple RGB is enough and costs less to run.
RGB DMX LED neon: for which projects?
DMX is intended for long lines and projects where several zones must light up together: a shop window several metres long, a stage, an event. It requires a dedicated controller and one address per zone. For a simple living room, this level of control adds nothing more; rather see finding the right light for the rest of the room.
How to install and maintain an RGB LED neon?
Smooth, clean surface for the adhesive, clips or profile for a ceiling and a wall, transformer or controller accessible near the line: the installation depends on these three points. Maintenance is limited to dry dusting. Before any installation in a bathroom or outdoors, check the IP rating of the strip and that of the power supply.
Waterproof RGB LED neon: what protection for outdoors?
Outdoors, you need a high IP rating on both the strip and the power supply, and mounting under shelter to limit direct rain. A bathroom requires the same vigilance. Without any mention of protection, it is better to keep the neon indoors, where indoor LED lights will cover general lighting.
How to clean an RGB LED neon without damaging it?
Soft, dry cloth, no abrasive product or solvent, and never water sprayed on the connections. If damp cleaning is required on a protected model, wring out the cloth and let it dry before switching back on. Do not pull on the strip to peel it off: cut the power first.
How to match RGB LED neon with a ceiling light, a wall light or an LED chandelier?
Share out the roles: RGB neon for coloured accent and lines, LED ceiling light for general light, wall light for circulation and reading, LED chandelier for the central point above a table. Keep white for uses, colour for ambience, and avoid turning everything on in the same hue.
Which powerful LED wall light to complement an RGB neon?
Choose a wall light that diffuses upwards and downwards, with enough white to read and move around. It is mounted at about shoulder height, away from water zones. To compare wall models, see choosing a wall light and check the white colour, 3000 K for a warm ambience.
Living room LED chandelier and RGB neon: how to combine them?
The chandelier lights the room and structures the volume, the neon highlights a niche or a cabinet. Turn on the chandelier alone for a dinner, add the neon for an evening. In a dining room, a dining room light centred above the table is enough, the neon remains an accent.
Which mistakes to avoid before buying an RGB LED neon?
Three mistakes come up again and again: cutting the strip outside the printed marks, forgetting the right transformer or controller, and installing an unprotected model in a damp room. Add to that a poorly assessed length, a fixing unsuitable for the support and control incompatible with the planned remote or app. Check each point before confirming.
Rainbow effect: how to get it without overload?
The rainbow effect comes from a continuous gradient along the line, so from an RGBIC model able to manage several colours at the same time. To avoid visual overload, keep a single accent line per room and let white do the rest. A fixed hue per zone looks better than a permanent cycle.
RGB LED neon: what budget to plan?
The price depends mainly on control, length and protection: an entry-level fixed RGB model cannot be compared with a protected RGBIC. Also allow for the controller, the profile and the connectors, often sold separately. With no figure in mind, decide between regular use and a statement piece.

Frequently asked questions about RGB LED neon
What is RGB LED?
RGB LED refers to an LED able to show red, green and blue, and therefore to compose many colours. On a neon or a strip, the hue is chosen by remote control or app. RGBW adds a dedicated white, useful when the light must also illuminate the room.
Cuttable LED strip, how does it work?
The strip is cut on the printed marks, spaced a few centimetres apart depending on the model. Cutting between two marks breaks the circuit and turns off the rest of the strip. Each piece obtained must be re-powered, or connected with a connector designed for that purpose.
RGBIC LED neon, what does it change?
RGBIC allows several colours at the same time on the same line. For a clean connection, allow one power supply per 5-metre section to limit voltage drop, and choose a 4-pin connector to link the segments. The collection includes 6 references.
An LED chandelier or an RGB neon to light a living room?
The LED chandelier lights the room and serves as the central point above a table, while the RGB neon highlights a line, a niche or a cabinet. In a living room, the chandelier or ceiling light is kept for useful light and the neon for coloured ambience.
Can an RGB LED neon be installed outdoors?
Only if the model states an IP rating suited to humidity, and if the power supply is also protected. Without this protection, water ingress damages the strip and can break the circuit. Outdoors, mounting under shelter reduces the risks.
