Count on a ceiling plate fixed near the electrical supply, then an arm or stem that shifts the light point to directly above the work surface. An offset pendant light illuminates a table, a worktop or a stairwell without moving the connection. The adjustable offset of the Linström ranges from 120 to 150 cm, while the Lyssandra relies on a fixed stem.
What is an offset pendant light and how do you offset a pendant?
The power supply stays where it is, only the light moves. The ceiling plate is screwed to the ceiling where the cable arrives, and the arm or stem built into the fixture carries the shade to the side, directly above the table, worktop or stair flight. The result depends on the length of the offset, not on the position of the connection.
Offset pendant light: arm, stem or offset power supply?
The Linström relies on an adjustable offset arm from 120 to 150 cm, with a 40 cm ceiling plate: the Ø 60 × H 30 cm shade sits above the unit, far from the wall. The Lyssandra starts from a black stem and carries two glass and metal domes. The Mr. Tubes, in steel and aluminium, offsets the power supply onto a horizontal tube. These three assemblies can be found in all our pendant lights.
The offset is also chosen according to the volume: short above a worktop, longer above a table set away from the wall. To place each family, browse our entire lighting collection.
How can I offset a pendant light?
Fix the ceiling plate as close as possible to the electrical supply, point the offset towards the area to be lit, then adjust the length before tightening. Check the plumb line, make sure the bulb remains accessible for replacement. The wiring does not move. These models are IP20, so they are intended for dry rooms.
| Room | Lighting need | Suitable light type | To check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen | Light the worktop without blocking the way through | Neutral white or warm white depending on the time of day | Replaceable socket and IP20 |
| Dining room | Light placed on the table, without dazzling guests | Warm white | Adjustable offset and shade height |
| Living room | Accent lighting near the sofa or wall | Warm white | Shape: dome, domes or tube |
| Bedroom | Soft light near the bed | Warm white | No direct glare |
| Hallway | Light the passage without cluttering it | Warm white or neutral white | Width of the model and length of the offset |
| Staircase | Light a flight or an open stairwell | Warm white | Access to the ceiling plate for maintenance |
Which offset pendant light for a kitchen and at what height should it be installed?
As a rule, allow 60 to 80 cm between the bottom of the shade and the worktop, adjusted to the height of the people cooking. The arm brings the shade towards the worktop, never towards the wall: the electrical supply stays behind, the light falls in front and traffic remains free around the island.
Offset pendant light for the kitchen: where to place it above the worktop?
Place the ceiling plate above a wall unit or on the wall side, and run the offset across the worktop. The Linström adjusts from 120 to 150 cm, which covers common worktop depths, and its E27 socket takes a bulb you can replace yourself. Other assemblies are gathered in our kitchen pendant lights.
Original kitchen pendant or Italian design: which direction to choose?
Style is decided by shape more than colour. The Lyssandra, two glass and black metal domes on a stem, gives a contemporary, minimalist line that stays understated. The Mr. Tubes, a horizontal steel and aluminium tube, leans industrial. To match the rest of the room, see the contemporary kitchen.
Living room pendant light: how to choose a model for the lounge?
A living room is lit in layers: the offset pendant light serves as accent lighting, near the sofa or the wall, not at the centre of the room. Choose the shape according to the surface to cover: domes or a dome spread light widely, a tube draws a horizontal line above a coffee table or a low unit.
Offset pendant light for the living room: offset arm, domes or tube?
The Mr. Tubes, in steel and aluminium, is dimmable: the intensity follows the time of day, reading or watching a film. The Linström, with its Ø 60 × H 30 cm shade, covers a large coffee table or a reading corner. The Lyssandra, in glass and metal, echoes another light in the room. To choose a pendant light for the living room, start from the surface to be lit.
Original or modern pendant light: how to avoid the model seen everywhere?
The offset itself is out of the ordinary: few pendant lights leave the plumb line of the connection. The rest comes down to materials, glass, fabric, steel, and to the shape, dome, domes or tube. These families can be seen in the indoor pendant lights. For a more restrained design, the modern line remains a good option.
Offset pendant light for the dining room: what height above the table?
Set the bottom of the shade out of the seated guests' field of view: hang it, sit down, then raise the cord until the bulb is no longer visible. The offset then centres the light on the tabletop when the ceiling plate is set towards a wall.
Offset pendant light for the dining room: what shade diameter for the table?
For a large table, the Ø 60 × H 30 cm shade of the Linström covers the tabletop at the centre. For a narrower table, two domes such as those of the Lyssandra, in glass and metal, light without occupying the full width. The adjustable offset from 120 to 150 cm allows you to aim at the centre from an offset ceiling plate. Find these formats among the pieces designed for the dining room.
Do you need a dimmer on a dining room pendant light?
A dimmer is useful when the same room is used for meals and for evenings. The Mr. Tubes offers one; the other two models do not state it. If atmosphere matters more than the gesture, a warm white bulb is enough, and a more sculptural pendant does the rest: design pieces are chosen first for their line.
If the diameter leaves you hesitating, the product page for the Linström Pendant Light gives the shade and ceiling plate dimensions. Secure payment, tracked delivery and returns: Designix customer service answers before and after purchase.
Offset pendant light for bedroom and hallway: which model for small spaces?
In a bedroom, hang it near the wall and let the offset bring the light above the bedside table, without a central ceiling light. In a hallway, a compact model placed on the plumb line of the passage lights without reducing the width for walking, the ceiling plate remaining accessible on the ceiling or wall.
Offset pendant light for the bedroom: how to avoid glare from the bed?
Choose a warm white bulb and a shade that hides the bulb in line with the bed. The Mr. Tubes also covers neutral white, easier for reading, while the Linström stays warm white. To compare volumes, see our bedroom lighting. A pendant light for an adult bedroom is chosen above all for the length of the offset.
Narrow hallway: which pendant format to choose?
Prefer models with domes or a horizontal tube, wider than they are deep, and check the length of the offset so it does not encroach on the passage. The models in this selection are IP20, so for dry rooms, and guaranteed for two years. A compact modern bedroom pendant light also suits a dark hallway.
Staircase pendant and high ceiling: how to light without lengthening the chain?
Fix the ceiling plate on the stairwell opening or the beam, and point the offset towards the stair flight rather than into the void. The arm or stem replaces the chain: the fixing stays within reach for maintenance, without a ladder over the void.
XXL pendant for high ceilings: how to cover the height?
The offset moves the light horizontally, it does not lower the bulb like a chain. On a high ceiling, the method is therefore to set the arm low enough to light the useful area, which the 120 to 150 cm offset of the Linström allows. The Lyssandra, with a fixed stem, suits moderate heights.
Staircase pendant: where to fix the ceiling plate?
Choose the point closest to the electrical supply and the stair flight, often the edge of the stairwell opening. Then let the offset aim at the steps, to avoid lighting the stairwell without lighting the passage. Compare lengths in our offset pendant lights. The rest of the selection can be seen in our lighting catalogue.
G9, E27 or integrated LED socket: which light for an offset pendant?
The socket decides maintenance: G9 for a compact bulb, E27 for a bulb that is easy to replace, an integrated LED module for a fixed light source that is not changed. Colour temperature decides the atmosphere: around 2700 to 3500 K the light is warm, between 3500 and 4500 K it becomes more neutral.
| Socket or source | Light temperature | Stated wattage | Dimmer | Model |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| G9 | not specified | 8 W | no | Lyssandra Pendant Light |
| E27 | Warm white, 2700 to 3500 K | 40 W | not stated | Linström Pendant Light |
| Integrated LED | Warm white or neutral white, 2700 to 4500 K | 11 W | yes | Mr. Tubes Pendant Light |
Warm white or neutral white: which temperature for which room?
Warm white suits rooms for relaxing: bedroom, living room, dining room. Neutral white is justified in a kitchen or above a worktop, where materials need to be distinguished. The Mr. Tubes covers both ranges, the Linström stays warm white. See the LED models.
G9, E27 or integrated LED socket: what difference in daily use?
A G9 bulb slips into a compact dome such as the one on the Lyssandra, stated at 8 W. An E27 on the Linström, stated at 40 W, is replaced without tools and lets you change the temperature at will. An 11 W LED module on the Mr. Tubes cannot be replaced, but can be dimmed. The structures can be seen in the metal pendant lights. The domes of the Lyssandra fall under glass shades.
Bathroom pendant and wet rooms: is IP20 enough?
No for a wet room. IP20 means the fixture is protected against solid objects and contact, not against splashes or condensation: it is a dry room rating. Kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and hallway are suitable; for a bathroom, look for a fixture whose rating matches the zone.
Bathroom pendant IP44: why does the rating change everything?
A higher rating indicates a fixture protected against splashes, which is expected above a washbasin or near a bathtub. None of the models in this selection claims that rating: better to choose a different reference than force an installation in a wet zone.
Black or white offset pendant light: which finish to choose?
Black dominates the selection and blends into a dark ceiling or a busy decor. White brightens a light wall and lightens a small space. The Linström combines both, black structure and white shade. See the black finishes. The white versions play the opposite game.
Last criterion: the material. The glass and metal of the Lyssandra, the fabric of the Linström and the steel of the Mr. Tubes Pendant Light do not reflect light in the same way. Rattan or bamboo pendant lights, often sought for their natural look, give a warmth close to fabric. Frequently asked questions about offset pendant lights
How can I offset a pendant light?
Fix a ceiling plate to the ceiling, as close as possible to the electrical supply, then let the arm or stem of the fixture shift the light point towards the area to be lit. The wiring does not move, only the support changes position. Adjust the length of the offset before tightening, then check the plumb line.
What are the pendant light trends for 2026?
The styles here range from contemporary to minimalist and industrial, with dome shapes, domes on stems and horizontal tubes, and a majority of black finishes. The underlying movement remains the offset, which drops light onto the useful surface rather than at the centre of the room.
Which offset pendant light should I choose for a kitchen?
A model whose arm brings the shade above the worktop. The Linström Pendant Light adjusts from 120 to 150 cm and takes an E27 bulb; the Lyssandra Pendant Light, two glass and metal domes on a black stem, suits an open kitchen. Both are IP20, so for dry rooms.
Which model for a living room pendant light?
A horizontal tube such as the Mr. Tubes Pendant Light, in steel and aluminium, lights a reading corner while leaving the centre of the room free, with a possible dimmer. Domes or a single dome spread more widely above a coffee table. Black blends into the decor, white brightens the walls.
Which design pendant light for a bedroom?
Hang it near the wall: the offset brings the light above the bedside table, without a central ceiling light. A warm white bulb gives soft light, and a shade that hides the bulb in line with the bed avoids glare. The Linström covers bedroom, hallway, kitchen, dining room, living room and staircase; the Mr. Tubes, kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom; the Lyssandra, hallway, kitchen, dining room and living room.
How do you light a staircase or a high ceiling?
Under a stairwell opening, the offset pendant light replaces the long chain: the ceiling plate is fixed near the electrical supply and the arm brings the light towards the stair flight. The Linström adjusts from 120 to 150 cm, the Lyssandra relies on a fixed stem. Keep the fixing accessible for maintenance.
Can a pendant light go in a bathroom?
Not the models in this selection: they are IP20, a rating intended for dry rooms, with no protection against splashes or condensation. In a bathroom, choose a fixture whose protection rating matches the zone to be lit, above the washbasin or near the bathtub.
Which pendant light should I choose for a modern interior?
A restrained line works: a horizontal steel and aluminium tube, or domes on a stem in glass and black metal. The styles in the collection range from contemporary to minimalist and industrial, with mostly black finishes and a few white versions for light rooms.
