Lampshades: Pendant, Table Lamp & Floor Lamp

Lampshade, Ideal for Table Lamp, Wall Light, Pendant etc

Your lamp works. But it doesn't light the way you want. The lampshade is the problem. It's also the solution. At Designix, we have selected lampshades that turn a simple light fixture into a true decorative element. Glass lampshade, fabric, rattan: each material creates a different atmosphere. Find the one that matches your interior.

Transform your lighting with the right lampshade

Why changing a lampshade changes everything

A lampshade doesn't just hide the bulb. It diffuses the light, tints it, directs it. A dark lampshade concentrates the light downwards. A light-colored lampshade illuminates the whole room. The shape also changes the game: conical for targeted lighting, cylindrical for even diffusion. Before looking for a new light fixture, look at your lampshade. It might be the only thing you need to change.

Our lampshades by type of light fixture

Lampshade for table lamp

A bedside lamp with the right lampshade creates the perfect atmosphere for reading or relaxing. Choose an amber glass globe lampshade for a warm and enveloping light. The glass diffuses without glaring. For living room table lamps, a wider lampshade (30-40 cm) balances the proportions and better lights the reading area.

Lampshade for floor lamp

A large lampshade for floor lamp must be proportional to the height of the floor lamp. Simple rule: the diameter of the lampshade is about 40% of the total height of the floor lamp. Our floor lamps with integrated lampshade respect these proportions. To replace an existing lampshade, measure the diameter of the socket: E27 is the standard in France.

Pendant and ceiling lampshade

The pendant lampshade becomes the focal point of the room. Above a dining table, it should be centered and hang about 70-80 cm from the tabletop. Too high, it loses its impact. Too low, it gets in the way. Our design pendants combine style and functionality. For a ceiling lampshade, choose materials that diffuse light well: fabric, rice paper or frosted glass.

How to choose the size of your lampshade

The rule of proportions

Here's how not to make a mistake:

  • Bedside lamp: lampshade 20-25 cm in diameter
  • Desk lamp: lampshade 25-30 cm
  • Living room floor lamp: lampshade 35-45 cm
  • Dining room pendant: lampshade 40-60 cm depending on table size

The bottom of the lampshade should hide the bulb, whatever the viewing angle. If you can see the bulb when seated, the lampshade is too small or badly positioned.

Which diameter for which room

For a bedside lamp, stay under 25 cm so as not to clutter the nightstand. In a spacious living room, a floor lamp with large lampshade of 45 cm creates a real focal point. For a bedroom, prefer fabric lampshades that filter light without being harsh on the eyes when waking up.

Our lampshades by style

Design and modern lampshade

Clean lines dominate current design. A geometric glass lampshade, like our amber glass globe, brings a contemporary touch without overloading. Tinted glass filters light and creates a warm atmosphere. For a bolder style, explore our modern chandeliers with integrated lampshades.

Scandinavian and natural lampshade

Scandinavian style focuses on natural materials: linen, rattan, wood. A rattan lampshade lets light through while creating shadow play on the walls. The driftwood lampshade combines nature and design. These materials fit perfectly in a Scandinavian or bohemian interior.

Materials: fabric, glass or rattan?

Glass lampshade for diffused lighting

Glass remains the best material for diffusing light evenly. Amber glass warms the tint, frosted glass softens the intensity. Our glass lampshades support bulbs up to 60W without risk. For LEDs, no limit: the heat generated is negligible. Glass is easy to clean and does not yellow over time.

Fabric lampshade for soft light

Fabric creates the coziest atmosphere. A linen lampshade diffuses a subdued light perfect for bedrooms. Cotton offers a more even diffusion. Warning: with incandescent bulbs (if you still use them), respect the maximum wattage indicated to avoid overheating. With LEDs, this problem disappears.

Frequently asked questions about lampshades

Which lampshade for which lamp?

The shape of the lampshade should harmonize with the lamp base. A round base pairs well with a conical or drum lampshade. A square or rectangular base prefers a lampshade of the same shape. If in doubt, the cylinder works with almost all bases.

How to attach a lampshade to a socket?

Three systems exist: the clip (attaches to the bulb), the ring (screws onto the E27 socket) and the spider (metal structure that fits into the socket). Check your lamp's system before buying. E27 ring lampshades are the most common in France.

How to choose the size of a lampshade?

Measure the visible height of the lamp base (from the base to the socket). The lampshade should be between 50% and 100% of this height. For a 30 cm base, a lampshade 15 to 30 cm high will work. The diameter depends on use: wider to light an area, narrower for ambient lighting.

How to clean a lampshade?

Fabric: low-power vacuum or soft brush. Glass: damp microfiber cloth, dry immediately. Rattan/wicker: dry brush for dust, damp sponge for stains. Avoid harsh chemicals that can discolor natural materials.

Complete your lighting

A lampshade alone is not enough to properly light a room. Combine different sources: a living room floor lamp for general lighting, wall lights for passage areas, a bedside lamp for reading. Each light fixture has its role. The right lampshade maximizes its efficiency.
