Place a compact lamp on the console, the edge of a shoe cabinet or a shelf: it is the simplest light source to add to a hallway, with no drilling or work required. Allow for a format of 21 to 43 cm high, an E27, G9 or GU10 base depending on the model, and keep the passage clear.

Which light fitting for your hallway: table lamp, wall light or pendant?

In a hallway, a table lamp slips onto a console, a ledge or a shelf and installs without any work. A wall light suits a narrow piece of furniture, a pendant when the ceiling is high. All the models in this collection are IP20: they stay in dry interiors.

Table lamp for a hallway or floor lamp: which to choose?

A floor lamp takes up floor space and its cable often crosses the passage: in a narrow hallway, the table lamp wins. It moves from one piece of furniture to another, serves as extra light in the evening and changes bulb in one movement. For a long corridor, an adjustable model among the adjustable models directs the light towards the floor rather than into your eyes.

Large chandelier for a high ceiling or living room chandelier: when is a table lamp enough?

Under a standard ceiling height, around 2.50 m, a large chandelier fills the volume poorly and weighs visually in a corridor. A lamp placed on a console or a wall light lights the useful point just as well. If you are looking for the whole house, browse all lighting for the home.

What light for a hallway: how to choose the light colour?

A hallway reads better with a warm, non-directional light, close to that of the living room that follows it. In this collection, the LED models give instant light, and the E27 base versions allow a visible filament bulb when the lamp stays on in the evening.

As a general guide, a warm light sits around 2700 to 3000 K, a neutral light around 4000 K. A hallway often deprived of windows handles neutral poorly: the walls take on a pale look. So stay with warm and align the temperature with that of the design table lamps for the living room, to avoid the break when you push the door open.

How to choose the hallway table lamp according to the available space?

The support decides the format: a narrow ledge calls for a small round base of 12 to 15 cm in diameter, a deep console accepts a lamp 40 cm high, a shelf a model 21 to 31 cm high. Measure the available depth before choosing.

Formats, materials and bases of hallway table lamps
Model Dimensions Material Base Wattage Asset in a hallway
Arbor Ø 12 × H 21 cm Wood G9 8 W Small round base for a narrow ledge
Bohlia H 25 × Ø 22.5 cm Woven bamboo and metal E27 40 W Only dimmable model, dimmable light
Finola L 19.5 × D 14.5 × H 43 cm Aluminium GU10 10 W Adjustable shade, directed beam
Lentia L 20 × D 14 × H 43 cm Steel G9 8 W Adjustable tube with LED lens
Ventura L 15 × D 15 × H 31 cm Steel E27 15 W Compact and understated format
Lunlinina L 13 × D 25 × H 24 cm Steel E27 15 W Visible filament bulb

Table lamp for a home hallway: the three positions that work

On a console, the light fitting rises to eye level and lights the face rather than the floor. On the edge of a shoe cabinet, it stays low and serves as a night light. In a niche or on a high shelf, it draws a halo on the wall and visually enlarges a narrow hallway.

Which format to avoid cluttering the passage?

Keep the door opening and the passage width clear, around 60 cm to move with a bag or a coat. A base of 12 to 15 cm in diameter fits anywhere. In a corner, the Ventura fits on 15 cm per side; on a deep console, the Lentia and its steel tube 43 cm high can be directed towards the wall.

Still hesitating about the silhouette: compare the modern lamps for the living room, often the same compact shapes, or our selection of Designix light fittings.

Which base and wattage for a hallway lamp?

Three bases coexist here: E27 on Ventura, Lunlinina and Bohlia, G9 on Arbor and Lentia, GU10 on Finola, for wattages from 8 to 40 W. The base determines the bulb you can fit and how easy it is to replace. Only Bohlia accepts a dimmer.

Which base for a hallway lamp
Base Wattage in the collection Technology What it changes Models
E27 15 W and 40 W LED or visible filament Wide choice of bulbs, easy replacement, broad light Ventura, Lunlinina, Bohlia
G9 8 W LED Compact bulb, suited to small light fittings Arbor, Lentia
GU10 10 W LED Directed beam, logical under an adjustable shade Finola

E27, G9 or GU10: what it changes day to day

The E27 can be replaced anywhere and accepts a visible filament bulb, as on the Lunlinina. The G9 disappears into a small volume, but is harder to find for a quick fix. The GU10 projects light instead of diffusing it: useful on a wall, less so for widely lighting a hallway.

Dimmer or simple switch in a hallway?

Only the Bohlia, with its bamboo weave, accepts a dimmer in this collection. It is the choice for a hallway you want to dim in the evening and open to full light on your return. On the other models, check the bulb's compatibility before adding a dimmer.

Italian design table lamp or Nordic style: what look to give the hallway?

The most graphic models are the adjustable tubes in steel or aluminium, available in gold, white or black, close to an Italian design spirit. The wood of Arbor and the woven bamboo of Bohlia give a softer hallway, Nordic or bohemian, without losing the luminous contrast.

Italian design table lamp: fine lines, metal and directed light

What comes closest here are the taut lines and adjustable shades, like the Finola in aluminium, offered in gold, white or black. The light is directed instead of being diffuse, which draws a wall rather than lighting it flat. Find these shades in the gold and black finishes.

Pairing the hallway with a modern kitchen decor

For a modern kitchen decor, keep the same family of materials and shades from one room to the next: black metal in the hallway, black metal on the worktop. The eye then suffers no break in style. The steel and aluminium pieces are found in the design LED table lamps.

Light fitting for the toilet and corridor: is a small table lamp enough?

Yes, a small table lamp is enough in a toilet or a corridor: the formats 21 to 31 cm high fit on a shelf or a ledge. Note that the whole collection is IP20, so reserved for dry interiors, with no protection against water.

Toilet decoration: what works with a table lamp

On a narrow ledge, the Arbor (Ø 12 × H 21 cm) sets a white globe on a wooden base, without taking up the surface. A warm, low light is enough in this volume. For a more understated decor, the black models blend into the back of the room.

Lamps and corridor lighting: extending the hallway

In a corridor, repeat the same model every two to three metres to punctuate the route, or choose an adjustable model that pushes the light towards the floor. The bedside lamps for the bedroom also work: just as compact, just as discreet at the end of the corridor.

How to connect several lamps to a single electrical supply?

For several lamps on a single supply, the simplest remains a socket controlled by the existing switch, or a power strip to turn everything on at once. For a fixed installation, an electrician checks the conductor cross-section and the circuit protection before adding a point.

Hallway table lamp and wall light on the same switch

A controlled socket, linked to the hallway switch, turns both on in one movement. The lamps keep their plug and remain movable, which suits an old hallway where drilling is expensive. Connecting a fixed wall light to the same circuit is a job for a professional.

Power strip or fixed branching: what remains reasonable

A power strip suits two or three placed lamps, provided it stays accessible and the cables do not cross the passage. A fixed branching requires checking the conductor cross-section and the number of points accepted: that is an electrician's job, never an improvisation. The metal lamps plug in like any table lamp.

How to install and care for a table lamp in the hallway?

A table lamp requires no drilling: you only need an accessible socket and a cable that does not block the passage. Care follows the material: soft dry cloth on steel and aluminium, dry dusting of wood, soft brush for woven bamboo, without abrasive product.

Should a piece of furniture be stripped before installing a lamp on it?

No. A placed lamp needs a flat, stable surface: a dusted piece of furniture, with no unstable object under the base, is enough. Stripping is decided for the furniture itself, not for the light fitting. Avoid applying solvent just before placing the lamp, the smell lingers in a closed hallway.

Cleaning a steel, wood or bamboo lamp

Steel and aluminium are cleaned with a dry microfibre cloth, without abrasive that scratches the finish. Wood is dusted dry, away from humidity. Woven bamboo handles a soft brush or a barely damp cloth. Find these materials among the Nordic table lamps.

Peaceful purchase: secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service to guide you in your choice. The warranty is 5 years on most of the selection, 2 years on the rest. To go further, see the white models or the table lamps for the office, which share the same bases and finishes.

Frequently asked questions about hallway lighting

Which light fitting for a toilet when space is very limited?

A small placed model fits on a ledge or a shelf: Arbor measures Ø 12 × H 21 cm, Lunlinina L 13 × D 25 × H 24 cm. These lamps are IP20, so for dry interiors: they suit a toilet, not a shower room.

Large chandelier for a high ceiling: is it always the right solution in a hallway?

A large chandelier is mainly justified under a high ceiling, when it must fill the volume and light widely. In a standard-height hallway or a corridor, a table lamp on a console or a wall light lights just as well without a heavy effect, and can be moved if needed.

Which light colour to choose for a hallway and a living room?

Stay with a warm, non-directional light in both rooms: it is continuity that avoids the break when you push the door open. In this collection, the LED models light instantly, and the E27 base versions accept a visible filament bulb.

Italian design table lamp: what sets it apart?

What comes closest here are the fine lines and adjustable tubes in steel or aluminium, with gold, white or black finishes as on Finola and Lentia. The light is directed instead of being diffuse, which draws a hallway wall rather than lighting it flat.

Should a piece of furniture be stripped before installing a lamp on it?

No. A table lamp only needs a flat, stable surface: a dusted piece of furniture, with no unstable object under the base, is enough. Stripping is decided for the furniture itself, never for the lamp. Above all, avoid applying solvent just before placing a light fitting.
