A designer kitchen wall light is chosen in this order: the socket, which decides the bulb and therefore the mood, the material, which sets the style, and the arm direction, which decides where the light falls. Above a worktop, allow about one metre between the surface and the light point, set back from the edge so as not to dazzle.
Which designer wall light should you choose for your kitchen?
A designer kitchen wall light is chosen on the socket, the material and the arm direction. An adjustable model sends light down onto the worktop, a model with discs or circles lights the room widely. Metal, brass, wood or resin set the style.
The criteria that matter: socket, material and dimensions
The socket determines the bulb, and therefore the colour tone and how easy it is to replace. The actual dimensions then separate the models: a 12 cm diameter shade and 10 cm base plate for Ilen, a 5 x 45 cm tube for Gona, 23 x 20 cm for Liro, 57 x 63 cm circles for Ceno. Compare these measurements with the height of your splashback before deciding, then browse kitchen wall lights to find the formats. For a pendant or a chandelier above an island, choose a central model, while the wall light remains the solution for a wall with no clearance.
Adjustable arm or diffused light?
Ilen has a 9 cm wooden arm that can be adjusted: the light goes where you want it, handy above a worktop. Conversely, Radia and its discs, or Ceno and its luminous acrylic circles, spread light widely with no adjustment. The choice depends on the surface to be covered, not on style. See designer wall lighting for both families side by side.
How do you light a central island and a worktop?
To light a worktop or a central island without drilling into the surface, an adjustable wall light or a long slim tube sends light straight down onto the useful area. Place it set back from the edge, or on either side, to avoid cast shadows.
Central island lighting: one or two light points?
A single lateral point leaves a shadow on the opposite side. Two points, on the wall and as a complement, remove these dark areas without multiplying drill holes. Ceno, with its 57 cm width, covers a good part of a long worktop on its own, while a 45 cm Gona tube lights an entire splashback. Find the wall solutions in designer wall lamps.
Modern kitchen wall light: where should it go on the wall?
On the wall facing the window, never in front of it: a source in the line of sight dazzles. The right place is above the worktop, on a blind wall, or between two tall units. The same reasoning applies to lighting a living room or bedroom wall lights, where you want grazing light rather than a frontal point.
Which light for a kitchen: LED, E27, G9, GU10 or G4?
The light depends on the socket: integrated LED or G4 for a continuous line, E27 for a standard interchangeable bulb, G9 or GU10 for directed light. Warm white colour temperature, between 2700 and 3500 K, suits kitchens and living areas. For 2026, kitchen lighting trends favour warm sources, soft shapes and natural materials such as rattan or wood, with a preference for interchangeable bulbs.
Can you replace a designer halogen bulb with an LED bulb?
Yes, as long as you keep the same socket. An E27 wall light such as Ilen or Liro takes a standard screw LED bulb: you keep the look of a light fixture with a strong design and you cut consumption. A designer halogen bulb with a G9 or GU10 socket can be replaced with the LED equivalent in the same format. Always check the socket marked on the product.
Warm white or cool light in a kitchen?
Around 2700 to 3500 K, the light stays warm and flatters wood, brass and food. Beyond that, the result turns clinical white and hardens the materials. This is the benchmark used on Radia, the only reference in the selection to display a warm white temperature.
| Socket | Type of source | Model concerned | What this implies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Integrated LED | Non-interchangeable source | Nela | Even light, no bulb replacement |
| G4 | Small low-voltage bulb | Gona | Slim format suited to long 45 cm tubes |
| G9 | Pin bulb | Radia | Several discs lit separately |
| GU10 | Quarter-turn twist-lock bulb | Ceno | Directed light, dimmer possible |
| E27 | Standard screw bulb | Ilen, Liro | Free choice of bulb to suit the mood |
How do you match a wall light to your kitchen decor?
The match is played out on the material that already dominates in the room. Black and metal for an industrial kitchen, brass or gold for a contemporary look, wood, rattan and wicker for a chic country feel, white and resin for a modern, bright interior.
Modern kitchen decor: brass, black or white?
Brass and gold warm up a pale stone worktop and lift a slightly cold kitchen. Black underlines the lines and matches dark splashbacks, as on Gona. White disappears on a painted wall and leaves only the light visible. For a pale base, compare the white finishes with the gold wall light.
Chic country wall light: wood, rattan and wicker
A chic country wall light combines a discreet frame with a woven shade. Liro, in wicker, rattan, bamboo and wood, 23 x 20 cm, is the direct example: the weave filters the light and casts a soft pattern on the wall. Ilen, with its wooden arm on iron, plays the same card more soberly. See also the metal models for contrast.
| Material | Effect | Models |
|---|---|---|
| Metal and iron | Crisp lines, easy care | Nela, Radia, Ceno, Ilen, Gona |
| Brass and copper | Warm reflections, contemporary look | Ceno, Gona, Radia |
| Wood, rattan, wicker, bamboo | Natural look, chic country feel | Liro, Ilen |
| Resin and acrylic | Soft diffusion of light | Nela, Radia, Ceno |
Which model for which room: kitchen, living room, bedroom or hallway?
The kitchen and living room take all the models in the selection, the bedroom most of them, the hallway and entrance the shaded wall lights such as Liro. The bathroom remains possible outside the water splash zone, as the protection rating is IP20.
| Model | Material | Socket | Style | Rooms listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nela | Metal, resin, iron | LED | Modern, contemporary, minimalist | Kitchen, living room, bedroom, hallway, bathroom |
| Radia | Metal, resin, copper | G9 | Contemporary, industrial, vintage | Kitchen, living room |
| Ceno | Metal, brass, iron, acrylic | GU10 | Modern, contemporary | Kitchen, living room, bedroom |
| Ilen | Metal, wood, iron | E27 | Contemporary, industrial | Kitchen, living room, bedroom, hallway, bathroom |
| Gona | Metal, brass | G4 | Contemporary, minimalist | Kitchen, living room, bedroom |
| Liro | Wood, rattan, wicker, bamboo | E27 | Contemporary, jungle | Kitchen, living room, hallway, entrance |
A hallway needs little light but a short format, hence hallway wall lamp. A round shape or a ball shape fits anywhere, while a folded star or circle design embraces a modern style and becomes the focal point of the wall.
How do you install a wall light in a kitchen?
The wall light is fixed to a flush mounting box or surface-mounted, away from water and heat zones. Above a worktop, allow about one metre between the surface and the light point, set back from the edge so as not to dazzle the person cooking.
At what height should a wall light be placed above the worktop?
Around one metre above the worktop, the light falls on your hands and not in your eyes. Lower, it heats the splashback and dazzles; higher, it lights the wall to no purpose. A wall light with an adjustable arm such as Ilen with its adjustable arm can be corrected after installation, a fixed wall light cannot.
Is IP20 enough in a kitchen?
IP20 protects against contact with fingers and solid objects, not against water splashes. The whole selection is IP20: it suits the worktop, the kitchen and the living room, but not a shower or splash zone. For those places, aim for a higher rating, as in damp rooms.
Only one model in the selection accepts a dimmer, Ceno, in Ceno with luminous circles. On the others, the mood is set by changing the bulb.
What mistakes should you avoid before buying a kitchen wall light?
The most common mistakes: a wall light too short for the height of the splashback, a socket with no compatible bulb, a light point facing the window that dazzles, and multiple sources without a dimmer. Check the actual dimensions, the material and the protection rating before confirming your basket. For a first setup, budget-friendly models are often enough, provided you stay with an E27 or LED socket.
Frequently asked questions about the kitchen wall light
What are the trendy light fixtures for a kitchen?
In kitchens, wall lights with clean lines dominate: discs, slim tubes, luminous circles, wooden or wicker shades, brass, black or gold finishes. The choice goes to models that light the worktop without cluttering the wall, often in LED and IP20.
Designer kitchen wall light: how do you choose one?
Look first at the socket, it decides the bulb and therefore the mood: integrated LED, G4, G9, GU10 or E27. Then the material and colour, then the actual dimensions, a 45 cm tube is not installed like a 12 cm shade.
Original kitchen wall light: what sets it apart?
An original kitchen wall light breaks away from the plain white square: folded star shape, radiating discs, luminous circles or a woven wicker shade. These designs remain wall-mounted, with a classic socket and protection rating, but give the room character.
Industrial-style kitchen wall light: which material should you choose?
The industrial style comes from metal, iron and black or copper finishes. Radia and its discs, in metal, resin and copper, and Ilen, with its wooden arm on an iron frame, play this card while sending light down onto the worktop.
Can a kitchen wall light replace a kitchen pendant?
Yes, if the lighting is aimed at the wall or the worktop: the wall light requires no ceiling drilling and suits small spaces as well as low kitchens. A pendant keeps its place above a central island or a table, where light needs to come from above.
Before confirming your basket
The choice comes down to three checks: the socket of your bulb, the distance between the worktop and the fixing point, and the room in which the wall light will live. Once these points are settled, browse the entire lighting catalogue and the dining room walls if you want to match several rooms. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany every order, with a two-year warranty on the selection.
