A cable pendant light is chosen first on two measurements: the diameter of the cage, 22 to 35 cm above a table, and the cable length, which must cover the drop down to the surface to be lit. All the models in this selection are openwork cages in steel, metal or copper, with a visible bulb, rated IP20.

What is a cable pendant light and what light does it give?

A cable pendant light is a fixture whose shade is a cage of fine metal or a structure of rods, with no closed diffuser: the bulb stays visible. The light escapes through the openings, lights the table surface and casts a pattern of wires on the ceiling rather than a uniform halo.

An open cage, a visible bulb: what that changes in the result

The light falls straight down onto the tabletop and leaves the walls in relative shadow: the eye rests on the table, not on the whole room. The rods cut shadows onto the ceiling, more marked with a filament bulb than with an opal globe. On the source side, two families: E27 sockets where you choose the hanging filament lamp, and integrated LED pendants whose light is fixed at the factory, in warm white.

Black, white or gold metal: the role of the finish

The finish does not change the amount of light, it changes its reflection. A matte black absorbs, keeps the cage discreet and makes the bulb stand out; a copper finish throws a warm glint onto the rods. Steel and painted metal make up most of the metal cages in the selection. The Harlem in black with a copper socket plays on exactly that contrast.

Which cable pendant format for which room?

The format is chosen on the surface to be lit, not on style: a cage 22 to 35 cm in diameter concentrates the light on a table, an oval structure 70 to 140 cm fills a large living room or a stairwell, a cluster of three aligned cages covers a long table.

Original pendant light: geometric cages and staggered clusters

The volumes leave the usual round shape: openwork cubes, crossed ovals, three-tier cages. The Pallina and its three staggered cages take up 38 cm in diameter and read as a single suspended piece. To compare silhouettes, browse all pendants.

Designer bedroom pendant: which diameter above a sleeping corner

In a bedroom, the cage stays small: 31 to 38 cm in diameter above a bedside table or at the foot of the bed, with the cable adjusted so the bottom of the cage sits above seated eye level. The white version fits better in a narrow space. See for a bedroom, and for a large volume a pendant for the living room.

Cable pendant format, dimensions and room
Format Measured dimensions Best-suited room Effect in the room
Single round or square cage Ø 22 to 35 cm, height 110 to 150 cm Kitchen, dining room, bedroom Concentrates light on the table
Three cages on a bar 70 cm long, 16 cm wide, 110 cm high Dining room, island Lights a long table along its whole length
Three cages at staggered heights Ø 38 cm, 110 cm high Living room, dining room Suspended volume, bulbs at several levels
Wide oval structure Ø 70 to 140 cm, up to 150 cm high Large living room, bedroom, staircase Fills the ceiling without mass
Garland of wire spheres 208.6 cm long, 94 to 184 cm high Large room, open kitchen Light spread along the whole length

Which cable pendant above a kitchen or dining table?

Above a table, a cage 22 to 35 cm in diameter is enough to light the plates without hiding faces, with the bulb still visible. On a long table, a model with three aligned cages or staggered heights spreads the light better than a single point.

Original kitchen pendant: openwork cage and contrasting socket

Over an island or a worktop, the cage must stay readable from a distance: thick wire, visible socket, strong colour. The Harlem, the Filgeometra and the Zenseleno take an E27 bulb up to 60 W max, enough to switch from ambient light to task light by changing the bulb. More models in kitchen pendant.

Italian design kitchen pendant: what sets fine lines apart

Fine lines are recognisable by three things: a thin-section wire, a discreet junction between cable and cage, a single colour from end to end. An oval structure of 70 cm such as the Berthe keeps that lightness above a table. Compare in designer pendant and above a dining table.

Socket, wattage and light temperature
Source type Socket Stated wattage Temperature What it changes
Screw bulb E27 Up to 60 W max depending on the model Depending on the chosen bulb You choose the colour and intensity
Integrated LED LED 20 W on the Glimmera, 107 W on the Filona Warm white 2700 to 3500 K Nothing to change, fixed light
Dimmable model E27 Depending on the fitted bulb Depending on the fitted bulb Intensity adjustable at the wall

How do you install and adjust a cable pendant light, including on a high ceiling?

The cable is shortened at the canopy or the box, once the fixture is fixed to the ceiling bracket: the adjustment is therefore made on site. On a high ceiling, check the maximum drop before buying, from 110 to 150 cm on most models, up to 352 cm on the Glimmera.

XXL cable pendant for high ceilings: which drop to plan

Measure from the ceiling to the desired bottom of the cage, then add the clearance needed above head height. The Glimmera drops to 352 cm, the Filona adjusts from 94 to 184 cm: two different answers depending on whether you are lighting a staircase or a table. The rest of the catalogue is visible in our full lighting catalogue. Short models are found in pendant light.

Height above the table: the reference to keep

In general, the bottom of the cage sits around 75 to 85 cm above the tabletop, a little higher if the table is wide, a little lower for task light. Switch off the power at the breaker before connecting, fix the bracket to the ceiling, then lock the cable at the desired length.

Cable pendant or cable wall light: which to choose?

The pendant comes from the ceiling, creates a focal point and suits above a table or an island. The cable wall light fixes to the wall, lights sideways and frees up the height, for a hallway or an entrance. Here, all models are pendants to be mounted on the ceiling.

When ceiling height calls for the wall light

Below 2.20 m, a cage hanging over a passage becomes awkward: the wall light avoids lowering the sight line, as in a narrow hallway where the fixture must stay against the wall. A short pendant, adjusted high, is still possible above a low unit; see modern living room pendant for these configurations.

The cases where the pendant remains the best choice

Above a table, an island or in a stairwell, the light must come from above: it is the only setup that lights the tabletop without the shadow of a hand. A living room gains a clear focal point, readable from the entrance. The models in adult bedroom pendant follow the same rule above a sleeping corner.

Can a cable pendant light be installed in a bathroom?

Not the models in this collection: they are all IP20, a protection against dust and contact only, insufficient in a damp room. A bathroom requires an IP44 or higher fixture, closed and sealed; an openwork metal cage has no place there near water points.

What IP20 means on a pendant

The first digit, 2, concerns solids: a finger does not go into the socket. The second, 0, means no protection against water. A shower spray or repeated condensation would eventually reach the connections. An openwork cage, by construction, offers no gasket.

Bathroom and damp room: the right reflex

Around a bathtub or a shower, choose a closed fixture, IP44 minimum, placed out of direct reach of sprays. For dry rooms, an openwork cage remains suitable, including in an entrance: browse modern pendant for short drops.

Black, white or gold cable pendant: which finish to choose?

Black is hardly visible on a light ceiling and lets the pattern of the wires do the work; it suits kitchens and dining rooms in a modern or industrial style. White blends into a light wall and lightens a small room; gold, beige and copper warm up a neutral interior.

Black cable pendant: the most common choice

Most models are black, often with a copper socket that provides the only warm note. The advantage lies in the contrast: on a white ceiling, the cage stands out and the lit bulb becomes the centre. See the black models. For care, a soft dry cloth is enough on painted steel.

Gold or copper cable pendant: warm up without gilding the whole room

A gold finish placed at a single point, above the table, is enough to warm a white wall. The Veldorilo in golden beige or the Filona and its garland of spheres play that card. To stay discreet, prefer matte gold finishes over overly reflective gloss ones. Also compare with the white version if the ceiling is low.

Inexpensive cable pendant or exceptional piece: which price level?

The gap comes down to material and finish, the number of light points, the presence of a dimmer and the warranty period, from 2 to 5 years depending on the model. A simple steel cage remains affordable; a large structure or a cluster of three cages calls for a different budget.

What raises the price level

A 31 cm cage in painted steel uses less material than a 140 cm structure or a cluster of three cages at staggered heights, with more assemblies and more light points to connect. Copper and worked finishes add a step. The most understated references are grouped in inexpensive pendant, with the same protection rating.

Warranty and dimmer: the details that matter in use

The warranty runs for 2 years on most references and 5 years on part of the selection: it is a criterion to read before comparing two cages of the same diameter. The dimmer, offered on a minority of models including the Harlem, requires a compatible bulb and a suitable switch. Without a dimmer, intensity is adjusted by changing the wattage of the E27 bulb.

Frequently asked questions

What height for a cable pendant above a table?

The bottom of the cage sits above the eye level of seated guests: high enough not to block the view, low enough for the light to fall on the tabletop. In general, allow 75 to 85 cm above the table surface. The cable is shortened once the fixture is in place, so the adjustment is made on site.

How do you install a cable pendant on a high ceiling?

First choose a model whose cable drops far enough: 110 to 150 cm on most, up to 352 cm on the Glimmera. The cable is shortened at the box, it does not lengthen. Check the maximum length before drilling, then fix the bracket and lock the height.

Can a cable pendant light be put in a bathroom?

Not the models in this collection: they are IP20, meaning protection against dust and contact only. A bathroom requires at least IP44 near water points. Better to fit a closed and sealed fixture there than an openwork metal cage.

Which bulb for a cable pendant with an E27 socket?

The E27 socket takes a screw bulb, chosen according to use: warm white for a living room, wattage suited to the surface. Several sockets in the selection support up to 60 W max; respect this limit and the instructions in the fixture's manual. On an integrated LED model, there is nothing to choose.

How do you care for a metal cable pendant light?

Dust settles on the rods: a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush is enough, without abrasive product or scouring sponge. Switch off the power before touching the socket and let the bulb cool. Painted or copper metal is cleaned dry so as not to mark the finish.

Our advice for choosing
This collection brings together wire pendant lights in steel, metal or copper: open cages, oval frames, with the bulb on show. They are mostly hung above a kitchen or dining table, in a living room or bedroom, often in black, sometimes in white, gold or copper.
