A bronze wall light is chosen first by the room, then by the format and the socket: allow 25 to 40 cm in height for a living room or a bedroom, a vertical or round format of 22 to 40 cm for a hallway, a staircase or a toilet. The finish and the material then decide the light output and the mood cast on the wall. For an antique style, a gilded bronze wall light or an outdoor bronze wall light brings a period touch.
Which bronze wall light should you choose for each room?
In a living room or a bedroom, a bronze wall light 25 to 40 cm high lights a wall or a painting without taking up floor space. In a hallway, a staircase or a toilet, a vertical or round format of 22 to 40 cm marks the passage and stays discreet.
| Room | Format in the collection | Socket or technology | Protection rating | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | H 27 cm to W 60 cm, vertical or picture light | Mostly E27, LED | IP20 | Lights a wall or a painting without taking up surface |
| Bedroom | H 25 to 40 cm, wall models and Stang | E27, LED | IP20 | One point on each side of the bed for reading |
| Hallway and staircase | Vertical, tube, ø40 cm, H 395 mm | E27, LED, G9 | IP20 | Marks the passage and underlines the climb |
| Entryway and dressing room | Small vertical or round format | E27, LED | IP20 | Extra light without clutter |
| Toilet | Small wall format | E27 | IP20 | Direct lighting, small footprint |
| Outdoor | Models from 22 to 24 cm | E27 | IP44 | Withstands water splashes |
Living room wall light
The living room holds most of the models. A 27 cm wall light with a linen shade, such as the Stang bronze wall light, casts a soft light on either side of a sofa or a bookcase. A 60 cm black picture light in 8.4 W LED replaces a frame and washes the wall with even light. To compare formats, browse our selection of living room wall lights.
Toilet wall light and designer WC wall light
In a toilet, a small wall format is enough: the light is direct, the floor footprint is nil and the connection is made above the sink. The ZAMBELIS 12W bronze wall light, 395 mm high, also works in an entryway, a dressing room and a staircase. On the wall, a small format bedroom wall lamp plays the same role beside a bed.
Brushed bronze, aged bronze or gilded bronze: which finish should you choose?
Brushed bronze keeps a matte sheen and suits a contemporary interior. Aged bronze, more patinated, evokes Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. Gilded bronze brings a warm glow on a dark wall. These finishes coexist in the collection, in metal, brass or glass.
Brushed bronze wall light
A brushed finish diffuses fewer glints than a polished one: it makes the lamp discreet on a painted wall and lets the bulb do the work. It is the dominant look among metal wall lights, often paired with an iron or aluminium structure. Ideal in a modern living room and a modern bedroom, where bronze accompanies black without competing with it.
Aged bronze wall light, Louis XV and Louis XVI
Patinated models, in brass and crystal, target dressed interiors: iron cage, curved arms, soft shade. They are reserved for an entryway, a staircase or a room with mouldings, where gilded bronze gains its full depth on a dark wall. For a similar look without the patina, a gilded wall light works on a light wall.
How do you get a powerful LED wall light or a powerful living room wall light?
A powerful LED wall light comes down to the socket: an E27 model takes a bulb up to 40 W, while an integrated LED picture light delivers a fixed 8.4 W. For a living room, choose an E27 socket if you want to adjust the intensity, an integrated LED if you want a slim profile.
| Socket or technology | Bulb | Dimmer | Possible temperatures | Key point |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E27 | Screw-in | On some models | Warm white 2700-3500K, neutral 3500-4500K, cool 4500-6500K | The most common: you choose power and tint |
| Integrated LED | Not replaceable | On some models | Warm white, neutral white | Slim profile, like the 8.4 W picture light |
| G9 | Small pin bulb | No | Depends on the bulb | For compact brass and crystal models |
| E14 | Small screw socket | No | Depends on the bulb | For small wall lights |
Powerful LED wall light
A 12 W model, such as the ZAMBELIS wall light, gives constant light with no bulb to change: handy in a hallway and on a staircase, where you no longer want to think about it. An E27 model capped at 40 W offers the opposite: you increase intensity the day the room changes use. The choice therefore depends on your tolerance for changing a bulb.
E27, E14, G9 or integrated LED: what impact on power?
The socket decides everything: E27 leaves power and tint free, E14 and G9 are limited to small bulbs, integrated LED freezes the output. Note that a dimmer is present on only a minority of models. For a controlled budget, affordable models remain mostly E27, and therefore upgradable. Also compare our LED wall lighting if you want fully integrated.
How do you install a staircase or hallway wall light?
On a staircase, a wall light is placed alongside the handrail or the stringer, to light the step without dazzling. In a hallway, alternate the walls to avoid dark zones. The vertical or tube format in the collection serves as a visual marker along the route.
At what height should you place a staircase wall light?
Align the body with the height of your handrail, so that it lights the step and not the face of the person coming down. Repeat the same model at regular intervals, keeping the centres aligned: the eye follows a clean line. Electrical connection should be entrusted to a professional. A 56 cm vertical wall light marks the climb better than a square format.
How many wall lights for a hallway?
Allow one wall light every two to three metres, alternating the walls to spread the light. A narrow hallway benefits from wall lights rather than a ceiling light, which crushes the perspective. For tube and small format models, see the selection dedicated to hallways.
Weatherproof outdoor wall light: which protection rating should you choose?
A weatherproof outdoor wall light carries an IP44 protection rating, like the Japanese and vintage models in metal and glass, E27 socket. Indoors, most of the collection is IP20: do not expose it to water splashes. The IP rating describes resistance to water and dust.
Outdoor bronze wall light
The Japanese outdoor luminaire and the vintage wall model measure 22 to 24 cm, in metal, glass and aluminium, with an E27 socket: you choose the bulb according to the facade. Plan a spot sheltered from direct run-off and check the fixing direction before drilling. For damp indoor rooms, look instead at a bathroom wall light, keeping the fixture out of splashes.
IP20 or IP44: what the rating protects
IP20 protects against fingers and ordinary dust, nothing more: a hallway or living room wall light does not fear dust, but it does fear water. IP44 adds protection against splashes, without immersion. An IP20 wall light above a mirror, far from the shower, remains acceptable; near the bathtub, a higher rating is required.
Which colour pairs well with bronze?
Bronze pairs with black for a sharp contrast, with beige and linen for a softer look, with silver for a graphic feel. Glass or crystal models dialogue with a light wall, gilded bronze with a dark wall. Avoid stacking more than two metals in the same room.
Bronze and glass wall light
Clear glass lets light through without colouring it: the bulb tint remains the only variable, which simplifies matching with the wall. These models go on a light wall, where bronze draws the outline. Browse the glass models if you want this clean look.
Gilded bronze, black, beige or linen: the pairings that hold
A gilded bronze on a dark wall creates a point of light; a brushed bronze with black gives a graphic wall, as on black wall lights. Linen and beige soften a light interior, especially in a bedroom. In the same room, keep a bronze base and a single accompanying metal.
How do you put together a boho chic or country chic wall light?
A boho chic wall light combines a bronze metal with a natural material: bamboo for a 40 cm round look, linen or fabric for a soft shade. The country chic spirit plays on bronze and black, in a small vertical format. The contemporary style, the majority, serves as a sober base.
Boho wall light
Bamboo and metal give a 40 cm round that lets the bulb show and casts soft shadows, as on the Breeza-Beache bronze wall light with E27 socket. Cork and canvas play in the same family. It is reserved above a low piece of furniture, as a bedroom wall lamp or in a reading corner.
Boho chic wall light and country chic wall light
For the country chic spirit, aim for a fabric or linen shade on a bronze frame: the Elegant Classy bronze wall light, 40 cm in linen and metal, matches this register, also available in grey and blue. A small vertical format in bronze and black completes the picture in an entryway. See also the modern wall lights for a less marked wall.
Which original wall light to break away from the classic?
An original wall light is recognised by its shape: metal cage, ball, vertical tube or 60 cm picture light that lights a wall like a painting. The 40 cm round in bamboo and metal plays a softer presence. These shapes exist in integrated LED or E27 socket versions.
Designer bronze wall light
The design here lies in the drawing of the structure, not in an ornament: single arm, fine line, glass held by a ring. These models go alone on a large empty wall, without symmetry. An integrated LED model keeps a slim profile, useful when the wall is a strong element of the room. The bronze wall light catalogue gathers these silhouettes.
Round shapes, tubes, cages and balls
The round shape, common, softens a concrete or brick wall. The 56 cm vertical tube structures a narrow panel. The cage lets the bulb show and creates a shadow pattern on the ceiling. The ball, rarer, works in pairs. For round variants, see the ball wall lights and the round wall lights.
How do you care for a bronze wall light and order with peace of mind?
On a bronze wall light, a soft dry cloth is enough for the metal and brass; glass and crystal are cleaned without abrasive products, linen and fabric are dusted. Warranty and return conditions are set out in our terms of sale. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns, Designix customer service. What is the value of a bronze chandelier? It depends on the actual material, the presence of glass or crystal, the finish and the integrated light source.
Cleaning and making a bronze wall light last
Unplug before any work. On metal and brass, a dry microfibre cloth revives the patina without removing it; avoid abrasive pastes that whiten the recesses. Glass and crystal are washed with warm soapy water, wiped immediately to avoid marks. Linen and fabric are dusted with a soft brush, without immersion. Bamboo needs only a well-wrung damp cloth.
