Start with the diameter, from 63 to 85 cm for the arm models, then the adjustable height, from 76 to 124 cm depending on the reference. A beaded pendant light is a fixture with arms dressed in small pieces of cut crystal that diffract the light: it stands out in the room more than it lights it brightly.

What is a beaded pendant light, and what light does it give?

A beaded pendant light is a fixture with several arms dressed in small pieces of cut crystal that diffract the light. In this selection, the models are made of metal, fitted with E14 sockets for most, E27 for the others, and are intended for the living room, dining room and kitchen.

Beaded pendant light: what it changes on the ceiling

Cut crystal throws the light back in small glints instead of spreading it widely. The result: a bright point that can be seen from afar and structures the volume, without washing the room in uniform light. It is a fixture chosen for what it brings to an already furnished room, then for the light it gives. Find these silhouettes in our lighting universe, where arm pendants sit alongside other lighting shapes.

Beaded pendant light: what variations are in the selection?

Three families sit side by side here. The crystal bead models come in Ø 63/72/85 cm, H 76-116/79-119/84-124 cm, E14 socket, 40 or 60 W, bronze or white finish. The taut cable tube, very slim, with a cylindrical socket. And the drum fabric shade, which combines black and gold. All these pendant lights share the same base: a metal structure and exposed sockets. For a bronze silhouette, see the Brasvera pendant.

Which rooms should you install a beaded pendant light in?

A beaded pendant light goes where you want a bright point that stands out, in an already furnished volume. Most references in this selection are listed for the living room, dining room and kitchen, and one of them is also intended for the bathroom.

Living room pendant light: what effect above the sofa?

Above a living area, a wide diameter lights the whole group without creating a harsh shadow. Allow about 2 m between the bottom of the fixture and the floor so as not to obstruct standing passage, and centre it over the coffee table or the rug. Living room pendants are chosen above all for the look they give the volume.

Beaded kitchen pendant light: what to check before installing

In the kitchen, you light a work area: the format should stay compact and the height high enough not to get in the way. A drum shade or a slim tube works better than an eight-arm fixture. To bring light down onto the worktop, also look at the pendants for lighting the kitchen, and for the nearby table, the models designed above the table.

What diameter and height should you choose for a beaded pendant light?

The arm and bead models measure Ø 63, 72 or 85 cm, with an adjustable height from 76 to 116 cm, from 79 to 119 cm or from 84 to 124 cm. The installation height is chosen according to the room and the furniture to be lit, the diameter according to the surface to be covered.

Adjustable height: how do you adjust it once fitted?

On the arm models, the cable is shortened during assembly: first set the height, fix it, then hang the beads. As a rule, aim for 75 to 85 cm above a table, and a minimum of 2 m above the floor in a passageway. The structures are made of metal, a material that is easy to work and repair. See the metal structures in the selection.

What diameter for a narrow room?

A diameter of 63 cm remains readable in a narrow room or above a standard-width table. Beyond that, you need surface area and ceiling height, otherwise the fixture takes up all the visual space. A large room accepts 85 cm; a hallway or a small entrance calls for a slim format instead.

Formats and sockets of the beaded pendant lights
Model Material and finish Diameter Height Socket Max power Listed rooms
Brasvera Metal, eight arms Ø 63 cm 76 to 116 cm E14 60 W Living room, dining room, kitchen
Aerina Metal, six arms Ø 72 cm 79 to 119 cm E14 60 W Living room, dining room, kitchen
Bronzella Metal, curved arms Ø 85 cm 84 to 124 cm E14 60 W Living room, dining room, kitchen
Alberina Metal, five arms Ø 63 cm 76 to 116 cm E14 40 W Living room, dining room, kitchen
Ambeo Fabric and metal, drum shade ø 50 cm 145 cm E27 40 W Dining room, living room, kitchen
Palladio Plastic and metal, taut cable tube ø 11 cm 135 cm E27 40 W Living room, dining room, bathroom

XXL pendant light for a high ceiling: what format should you choose?

For a high ceiling, the selection offers the Ø 85 cm pendant, adjustable up to 124 cm, and two models with a fixed height of 135 cm and 145 cm: the taut cable tube and the drum shade. The larger the volume, the more generous the diameter should be.

XXL pendant light for a high ceiling: what diameter should you aim for?

Under a great height, a narrow fixture disappears. The Ø 85 cm of the curved-arm pendant with crystal beads keeps a visual presence once the cable is lowered. Conversely, a small diameter hung very low forms an isolated point in the middle of the void.

Taut cable tube pendant light: the solution for great heights

The taut cable tube brings the light down very low on a diameter of only 11 cm, which frees up the view in a tall room or a stairwell. Palladio, black taut cable tube, is listed for the living room, dining room and bathroom, the only reference in the selection intended for the latter room. Other comparable volumes are grouped in our design pieces.

E14 or E27 socket: which bulb for a beaded pendant light?

Two sockets share the selection: E14 on the arm and bead models, E27 on the drum shade and the taut cable tube. The stated wattages range from 40 W to 60 W depending on the model, and one reference shows a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K.

E14: slim bulbs for the arm models

The E14 socket is fitted to Brasvera, Aerina, Bronzella and Alberina, with 60 W stated on the first three and 40 W on the white version. These slim sockets slip behind the beads without hiding them. As for the bulb, a warm white around 2700 to 3000 K flatters the crystal, whereas a neutral white cools it.

E27: the wide socket of the drum shade

E27 applies to Ambeo and Palladio, at 40 W. The wide socket accepts more bulb models, including the LED bulb versions, economical and available in all temperatures. Ambeo indeed shows a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K, a range that goes from the warm light of evening to a more definite white.

Bronze, white, black or gold beaded pendant light: which finish should you choose?

Bronze dresses most of the arm and bead models, white brightens the five-arm version, black marks the taut cable tube, and the drum shade combines black and gold. The finish is chosen according to the colours already present in the room.

Bronze or gold pendant light: what atmosphere?

Bronze and gold finishes warm a room with light woodwork or beige tones. The gold of the drum shade plays a contrast with the black of the fabric: a duo that makes its mark without colouring the room. Note the metals already there, handles, furniture legs, other light fixtures, and match them.

Black or white pendant light: what effect on the ceiling?

A black finish stands out against a light ceiling and draws a crisp silhouette, which is what black pendants do. A white finish, like the white five-arm version, blends into the ceiling and leaves only the crystal visible. White suits small rooms, black suits volumes that can take a visual anchor point.

Which beaded pendant light for which room
Room What matters Suitable format Socket
Living room A wide bright point, adjustable height Ø 63 to 85 cm depending on the surface E14 or E27
Dining room The centre of the table stays clear Ø 63 cm and more, cable lowered E14
Kitchen Direct light on the worktop ø 50 cm or slim tube E27
Bathroom Damp room: check the protection rating Compact format E27

Modern or vintage beaded pendant light: which style should you adopt?

The beaded pendant lights in this selection are contemporary in style, with curved arms and cut crystal beads; one model combines modern and contemporary. The number of arms varies from five to eight, which changes the width of the light and the overall look.

Modern beaded pendant light: contemporary lines

The modern models in the selection keep slim arms and regular volumes. Cut crystal replaces classic ornaments with crisp glints. A velvet and drum shade model, Ambeo, plays this card with an E27 socket and a diameter of 50 cm.

Vintage beaded pendant light and Italian design: the codes to recognise

The Italian design register is recognisable by its slim lines, curved arms and plenty of crystal for little visible metal. Aerina in six arms and cut crystals belongs to this vein. To compare materials, also look at the glass pendants, which give a more diffuse light than cut crystal.

How do you install and care for a beaded pendant light?

These pendants are IP20 and are installed under a dry ceiling, on the ceiling fixing point provided. Connection is made with the power off, the height is set before hanging the beads. Once in place, the beads are dusted dry to keep their sparkle.

How do you fix a pendant light without a hook?

Assembly is done directly on the ceiling fixing point, without a hook, with the electrical connection made with the power off. First fit the structure, set the cable height, then hang the beads one by one: they are easier to fix when the fixture is already stable. The warranty is 5 years on most references and 2 years on the others.

Caring for cut crystal beads

A soft, dry cloth is enough on each piece; water and household products leave marks on the crystal. Dust before a film sets in, the light output depends directly on it. All models are IP20, so reserved for dry rooms, except for the taut tube listed for the bathroom. For more enveloping fixtures, see the bedroom pendants. A look at the most affordable models also helps frame the project, and the lighting catalogue gives the overall view.

Frequently asked questions about the beaded pendant light

What is a beaded chandelier?

It is a fixture with several arms on which small pieces of cut crystal are hung, throwing the light back in small glints. In this selection, the beaded models are made of metal, in bronze or white, with five, six or eight arms depending on the reference.

How do you fix a chandelier without a hook?

These pendants are fixed on the ceiling fixing point provided, without a hook: the electrical connection is made with the power off, on a suitable support. Once assembly is complete, set the cable height before hanging the beads.

IP44 bathroom pendant light: how do you know if it is suitable?

This selection is given as IP20, a rating suited to dry rooms. For a bathroom, you need a pendant whose protection rating matches the damp zone concerned: check the model's data sheet before buying, one reference is listed for this room.

Should you choose a crystal beaded pendant light or a glass pendant light?

In this selection, the beads are cut crystal on metal structures. A glass pendant gives a different light rendering: the best approach is to compare the two families before deciding, according to the room and the style of the decor.

XXL pendant light for a high ceiling: which model should you choose?

First look at the available height: the beaded models adjust from 76 to 116 cm, from 79 to 119 cm or from 84 to 124 cm, the taut cable tube goes up to 135 cm and the drum shade to 145 cm. The taller the room, the wider the diameter should be.

Ordering a beaded pendant light from Designix

The diameter (63 to 85 cm) is chosen according to the surface, the socket (E14 or E27) according to the bulb. Once the diameter and height are chosen, all that is left is to select the finish: white pendants for small rooms, black finishes for a crisp line on the ceiling. The rest of the house is completed in all our pendants, and if you are still unsure about the format, the pendant lighting section brings together all the families.
