Add an E27 bulb up to 40 W, place the lamp on a bedside table or a side table, and let the weave do the rest: the halo is filtered, softer than with an opaque shade. Woven bamboo meets metal for a boho or Nordic look, in the bedroom as in the living room.

What light does a bamboo and rattan table lamp give?
A bamboo and rattan bamboo rattan lamp gives a soft, filtered light through the weave: the halo is softer than with an opaque shade. The models in the collection use an E27 socket up to 40 W, and the Bamora is rated warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, the tone that suits a room for rest.
Light filtered through openwork weave
Wickerwork does not block light, it shapes it. Each strand casts a fine shadow on the wall and ceiling, and the source itself is guessed at more than shown. That is what sets a rattan lamp apart from a fabric shade: the halo goes down and up at once, the room is bathed without being lit flatly. For a reading corner, that is enough; for working, choose direct light, such as adjustable lamps.
E27 socket and 40 W: what it changes day to day
The E27 socket is the standard thread: you screw in the bulb you already have, with no adapter. The 40 W limit shown on these models comes from the heat given off near the fibre, and it must be respected. Some models accept a dimmer, handy in the evening. If you are after a very soft tone, a warm white around 2700 to 3500 K remains the comfortable reference in a bedroom, to compare with our linen shades, which also filter the light.
Where to place a bamboo and rattan table lamp in the home?
On a bedside table, a living room side table or a hallway unit: the bamboo and rattan table lamp takes up little space and moves where needed. The models in the collection are designed for the bedroom and living room, and the Bohlia is also suitable for a hallway.
On a bedside table or a living room side table
A standard bedside table is 40 to 50 cm wide: the Bohlia, at 22.5 cm in diameter, leaves room for a book and a glass. In the living room, place it on a side table at seat height, around 45 to 55 cm, so the shade reaches eye level when you are sitting. That is where it is most useful, as evening accent light.
A hallway lamp to welcome
In a corridor, you want to see without being dazzled: a low lamp on a narrow unit does that job. The compact Bohlia fits on a 30 cm tray. Complete the look with our bedroom table lamps if you want the same spirit for the night, or see our full lighting range to mix several sources.
| Room | What is expected | Suitable format | Model in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedroom | Soft evening light, little bulk | H 25 cm / Ø 22.5 cm | Bohlia |
| Living room | Wide halo on a side table or low unit | Ø 30 cm | Bamora |
| Hallway | Discreet accent lamp on a narrow unit | H 25 cm | Bohlia |
What is the difference between bamboo and rattan?
Bamboo is a grass with a rigid, hollow stem; rattan is a climbing palm whose flexible stem is woven. Bamboo gives clean lines and a smooth touch, rattan gives curves and a more irregular weave. Both are worked as wickerwork and share shades from beige to brown.
Two plant materials, two finishes
On woven bamboo, the strands keep a certain firmness: the sphere holds its shape and the edges stay sharp. Rattan, more flexible, bends further and shows the maker's hand. In colour, natural bamboo leans towards light beige, rattan towards honey and then brown over time. In both cases, the fibre worked over a metal frame gives a stable lamp.
What it changes when choosing
A tight weave gives more contained light and hides the bulb better; an openwork weave lets beams through and creates patterns. For a bedroom, the tight weave is more restful. For a hallway, the openwork one creates relief. Compare with the wooden table lamps if you want to stay with plant materials and a solid surface.
Can a bamboo and rattan table lamp be used outdoors?
No: the models in the collection are rated IP20, so they are protected against solid objects but not against water. A terrace, an exposed balcony or a damp bathroom are not suitable. Keep them indoors, away from splashes, which also preserves the weave.
What IP20 means for a bamboo lamp
The IP rating is read in two digits: the first concerns solid bodies, the second water. An IP20 protects against a finger and thick dust, nothing more. No protection against drips, splashes or condensation. Plant fibre, for its part, relaxes and stains if it stays damp: two reasons not to take it outside.
Where to place it safely
Indoors, on a dry unit, away from a sink or a shower. A sheltered hallway remains acceptable if no rain reaches it. For outdoor use, look for a light designed for it, and keep the weave for the home: see bedside ceramic and Nordic models to vary materials indoors.
Sphere lamp or openwork shade: how to choose?
The Bohlia sphere, 25 cm high and 22.5 cm in diameter, concentrates light in a spherical volume and slips onto a bedside table. The Bamora, wider at 30 cm in diameter and 30 cm high, has an openwork vase-shaped shade and lights more widely around it.
The compact Bohlia sphere
A bamboo-woven sphere on a metal base, in a mix of black and beige: it sits there and stands out without taking over. Its 25 cm height fits under a shelf, on a narrow console, on a windowsill. The halo spreads in all directions at table height. See the Bohlia woven bamboo sphere.
The Bamora and its openwork vase-shaped shade
A more generous shape, a flared openwork shade, beige tone: the Bamora lights more widely and casts patterns on the wall. Allow 30 cm in diameter, so a unit at least 40 cm deep. It is the lamp for a living room corner or a large bedroom. See the Bamora and its openwork shade.
| Model | Shape | Dimensions | Socket | Max power | Protection | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bohlia | Woven sphere | H 25 cm / Ø 22.5 cm | E27 | 40 W | IP20 | Bedroom, living room, hallway |
| Bamora | Openwork vase shade | H 30 cm / Ø 30 cm | E27 | 40 W | IP20 | Bedroom, living room |
How to match a rattan lamp with a boho, Nordic or modern living room?
Woven bamboo works with the three registers of the collection: boho with linen, wood and natural fibres, Nordic with light tones and simple lines, modern when the weave sits next to black metal. Beige goes with everything; black and brown bring contrast.
With linen and wood, the boho spirit
A rattan lamp on a raw wood unit, a linen throw, a fibre rug: the weave makes the link effortlessly. In colour, brown and beige answer each other. It is the most natural register for a living room rattan lamp, and the one that ages best. Also see ceramic pieces for a more matte base.
With black metal, the Nordic or modern reading
The metal of the base and the light weave form a clear contrast, very Nordic when the rest of the room is white and light wood, more modern when black dominates. The phrase "Italian design table lamp" circulates for this kind of clean-lined piece: here the approach is artisanal, not an origin. See the modern living room lamps and the black colourway for living rooms.
Table lamp or floor lamp: what to choose for the living room?
A table lamp goes on an existing unit and lights at seat height; a floor lamp stands on the floor and takes the place of a small piece of furniture. In an already furnished living room, the bamboo table lamp frees up the floor and follows the movements of the reading corner.
What a floor lamp adds
It raises the light above the seat and lights over the shoulder, which suits long reading. In return, it ties up a corner of the floor and needs space behind the sofa. In a small living room, that is often 30 cm less circulation. See the floor lamps if this format appeals to you.
When the table lamp is enough
When the unit already exists, when you want to change the mood without drilling, when the room serves several uses. A table lamp moves from one room to another and cleans in a minute. For a living room, compare with the design table lamps for living rooms and our design LED lamps.
How to set up and care for a woven bamboo table lamp?
You screw in an E27 bulb, plug the cable into a socket or a power strip, and dust the weave with a dry or barely damp cloth, without wetting the socket. No assembly is needed beyond the bulb, and the selection is guaranteed for 2 years.
Changing the bulb and plugging in the lamp
Switch off the power or unplug before screwing in the bulb, and respect the 40 W ceiling. A power strip is enough if the socket is far away; avoid visible extension leads across the walkway. On dimmable models, the bulb must be compatible, otherwise you hear a buzz. For another finish, see the black metal bedside.
Cleaning the weave without damaging it
Dry cloth for dust, barely damp for a mark, then dry immediately. No abrasive, no wetting product, no greasy sponge: the fibre drinks and stains. Keep the lamp away from a steam source. The crystal selection calls for a different touch, with more care.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: you order, you test the light at home, and you keep the lamp that finds its place. Browse our Nordic selection or our lighting selection by use to complete the living room.
Frequently asked questions
Which bulb should I choose for a bamboo table lamp?
An E27 bulb, up to 40 W, suited to the socket. For a bedroom or a reading corner, a warm white tone around 2700 to 3500 K gives a result close to the Bamora. Respect the 40 W ceiling shown so the weave does not heat up.
What are the 4 types of lamps?
Lighting is generally grouped into four families: pendants, which hang from the ceiling; ceiling lights, fixed to the ceiling; wall lights, mounted on the wall; and table or floor lamps, mobile and plugged into a socket. Bamboo and rattan table lamps belong to the last family.
Can 3 lamps be wired to 1 switch?
Yes, provided they are connected in parallel on the same circuit controlled by the switch: they turn on and off together. The bulb wattages must be added up to stay within the limits of the circuit and the switch. An electrician checks the wire gauge before approving.
How do you connect several lamps to a single power supply?
You start from the junction box and connect the lamps in parallel, each with its live and neutral, so that switching one off does not cut the others. Switch off the power before working and check that the line supports the whole set. If in doubt, an electrician approves the installation.
What are the most beautiful living room lamps?
Beauty depends on the room as much as the model: in a light living room, a woven bamboo lamp brings a warm texture without weighing visually. Look at the halo, the height relative to the sofa and the tone of the weave. A lamp that lights well and matches the rest is the one you keep.
Italian design table lamp: what does it change?
The phrase refers to lamps with clean lines, often made in small series and in mixed materials. In this collection, the approach is more artisanal: woven bamboo and metal, boho and Nordic registers, E27 socket and IP20 protection rating. Style is chosen according to the room, not the label.
How do you care for a rattan or woven bamboo lamp?
A dry or barely damp cloth is enough to dust the weave, without wetting the socket or the cable. Avoid abrasive products and prolonged exposure to moisture, which relaxes the fibre. For a lamp rated IP20, dry cleaning remains the rule.
