3-light pendant: choosing well and aligning the trio

Align the three lamps on the same axis, space them evenly, then set the drop before drilling. A 3-light pendant is installed like a single fixture: one power point, three drops, one shared height. Aim for a constant gap between the light sources and a bottom of the pendant 75-85 cm above the surface.

Which 3-light pendant for a living room?

Three aligned light sources are better than one large central point: in a living room of 20 to 30 m², a 3-light metal pendant hangs 75 cm above the coffee table, with shades of 20 to 25 cm. Compare diameters in the pendant lighting range before settling the spacing.

Black or gold 3-light pendant: what changes in the room

Black structures the room, gold warms it. In a survey of 250 pendants from our catalogue on 24 October 2026, black is listed on 36% of the product pages, gold on 28%, silver on 21%.

  • Matte black: frames a very bright living room without weighing it down
  • Gold or brass: reflects daylight onto a white wall
  • Silver: matches kitchens and stainless steel glazing

A metal trio above a linen sofa is enough to define the space. That is the role of a pendant chandelier: marking a zone without closing it off.

Which pendant for a bedroom with three light points?

Three small globes are better than a wide trio: hang them at 2.10 m from the floor, or 60 cm above the bedside tables if the trio replaces the bedside lamps. A bedroom chandelier in smoked glass or fabric diffuses light without glare.

Lying down, you do not see the same thing as standing, and bedroom lighting seen from the bed calls for lower volumes and less shiny materials.

Three lamps: what changes from room to room

At what height and spacing should three lamps be hung?

Set the drop before the spacing: 75 to 85 cm between the bottom of the shades and the tabletop, then an even gap of 40 to 60 cm between the light sources. Once these two measurements are confirmed with a tape measure, the drilling no longer moves.

How to adjust the height of a pendant light?

The measurement is taken between the bottom of the fixture and the surface below, never from the ceiling. An adjustable cable locks once the fixture is in place, which allows adjustment to the centimetre.

Surface Bottom of the fixture Gap between light sources
Dining table 75 to 85 cm from the tabletop 40 to 60 cm
Kitchen island 75 to 85 cm from the worktop 30 to 40 cm
Hallway, corridor 2.10 m from the floor one third of the width

A narrow tabletop takes a tighter trio, a large table needs breathing room. Cable locking is detailed in adjusting the height of a pendant, useful when the three drops do not fall to the same level.

How to offset a pendant?

Offsetting is not random decentring: keep one light source fixed and move the other two forward by 10 to 15 cm, in a step or diagonal. The eye then follows a line rather than a block.

Over a long table, this rhythm is played with slightly different heights, which a dining room chandelier with three adjustable drops allows without re-drilling.

For an open-plan living room, compare formats in the dining room lighting range before fixing the axis on the ceiling.

Before drilling: the six checks for the trio

  • Locate the joist or anchor point above the DCL box
  • Check what the hook or mounting plate actually supports
  • Measure the final drop between ceiling and bottom of the shades
  • Mark the axis of the three lamps in pencil before the first hole
  • Check that all three sockets take the same base
  • Switch off the power at the breaker before any connection

3-light kitchen pendant, rattan, smoked glass: which material for which room?

Metal for an island, rattan to soften, smoked glass to mellow. In a survey of 250 pendants from our catalogue on 24 October 2026, metal appears on 52% of the product pages, crystal on 20%, glass on 19%.

Which pendant in the kitchen?

Above an island, three lamps are hung low and close together. A 3-light industrial pendant in black metal or brushed steel keeps the light above the hob, at eye level, without ever dropping into the work area.

  • IP20: sufficient outside wet zones, the majority of the pages in our survey
  • E27: the most common base, it takes a visible filament bulb
  • Dimmable bulb: check if the three points share a dimmer

A long island needs three points, not two: the kitchen chandelier is chosen according to the length of the worktop.

Then balance: multiple pendants above an island are distributed over the work zones, not for symmetry.

Rattan or smoked glass: which material to choose?

Rattan softens the light and absorbs noise in a living room. Smoked glass lets the beam through while hiding the bulb: the smoked glass pendant suits a dining room, provided it stays above eye level.

For a large volume, a 3-light natural pendant in a generous diameter fills a corner without darkening it. See the rattan pendant in large format. On the light source side, the E27 base is listed on 49% of the surveyed pages, LED on 22%, E14 on 20%: the socket dictates the bulb.

How to connect several pendants to a single point?

Start from a single supply box and branch out to each socket. The three pendants are therefore connected in parallel on the same terminal block: live, neutral, earth. The circuit holds as long as the total power stays within the breaker limit.

How to install several pendants?

Switch off at the breaker, identify the conductors, then run from the terminal block to each fixture. A quick connector is enough for three outgoing lines.

  • Power off: check with a tester before touching the terminal block
  • Labelling: live, neutral and earth noted on each outgoing line
  • Connector: one line per fixture, the original terminal block is replaced when it is too short

The step-by-step identification is covered in connecting several lamps to a single supply, including the case of a concrete ceiling.

Three lamps, one switch: the wiring diagram

The three fixtures are in parallel: the switch cuts the whole set and each socket receives the same voltage. A blown lamp does not switch off the others.

To vary the intensity, a single dimmer controls all three, provided the bulbs are dimmable. The installation procedure is described in installing a suspended ceiling light.

Almost all our pendants are for indoor use: the IP20 rating is listed on 87% of the 250 pages surveyed on 24 October 2026. On an old ceiling, the beam axis often dictates the layout, and the Designix Google listing gathers verifiable reviews from customers who have visited the workshop.

If you still need to decide on spacing and drop in your home, take the time to describe your project to us: we answer on heights and finishes, not on an imposed model.

3-light pendant: the questions that keep coming up

How to adjust the height of a three-light pendant?
First set the drop on one lamp, then align the other two to the same level. Above a table or an island, allow 75 to 85 cm between the tabletop and the bottom of the shades; in a living room, go down to 65-75 cm to stay within the seated field of view.
How to install several pendants on a single ceiling point?
A sufficiently large ceiling rose or a DCL box takes several outgoing lines: the three cables start from the same point and stay on the same circuit. The connection is made with the power off, using terminal blocks or wagos sized for the wire cross-section.
What bulb wattage should be planned for three lamps?
Three light sources are better than one big one: aim for a combined output, not a spotlight. In a survey of 250 pendants from our catalogue on 24 October 2026, the E27 base is listed on 49% of the pages and LED on 22%: an E27 LED trio is then adjusted with the dimmer.
3-light kitchen pendant: what spacing above the island?
Allow 40 to 50 cm between the lamps and an overall span covering one third to half of the island length. Spaced too far apart, the three lamps leave shadow zones on the worktop; too close together, they form a single block.
Can the three lamps be offset at different heights?
Yes, provided you have a pendant with individually adjustable cables. The offset is created by small differences of 10 to 15 cm to create a rhythm, never in a disorderly staircase: keep a common axis and a single logic for the drop.
