A wrought iron wall light is chosen first for the job it has to do: light a wall, frame a sofa, guide a staircase or replace a bedside lamp. The models in this selection combine metal and iron, sometimes opal glass, linen or wood, with E27 or G9 sockets, IP20 rating and warm or cool white depending on the bulb.

Which wrought iron wall lights should you choose for a living room?

In a living room, the wall light works as accent lighting: it highlights a wall, frames a sofa or replaces a corner lamp. Allow for two light points on either side of a sofa or a bookcase, at mid-height between the armrest and the ceiling, rather than a single off-centre source. The shape must stay readable from a distance, and the light should be warm white around 2700 to 3500 K for a relaxing room. To compare formats, browse the models designed to light a living room.

Black or gold wrought iron wall light: which finish should you choose?

Black blends into a understated decor and leaves the attention to the wall; gold visually brightens the surface and highlights a moulding or a frame. The Ciselora model comes in both finishes, with an oval outline of 41 × 12 cm. If you are looking for a dark shade to match dark joinery, compare the matte black finishes.

Iron, glass or wood: which materials work in a living room?

Metal structures the room, opal glass diffuses a soft light without glare, wood warms the whole. A ball in metal and wood works just as well on a painted wall as on wallpaper. For a brighter interior, the wood models pair well with Scandinavian furniture.

Which wall lights for an adult bedroom?

One wall light on each side of the bed frees the bedside table and removes cables from the floor. The Calypsa model combines a cylindrical shade of 20 × 15 cm with a 1 W adjustable LED reading spot, on an 11 × 11 cm backplate with a 15.3 cm projection. Fit it at shoulder height when seated, so you can read without lighting the whole room. Warm white remains the safe choice for bedrooms.

Bedside wall light or central wall light: where should it go?

Two symmetrical wall lights on either side of the bed serve everyday use; a single central wall light above the headboard acts as ambient lighting. In both cases, the light should stay indirect or adjustable so it does not disturb the person next to you. A cylindrical shade in linen or cork softens the result. See the wall lights for bedrooms.

Which light temperature for a good night's sleep?

Around 2700 to 3500 K, warm white prepares the body for rest; above 4500 K, cool white is stimulating and is better kept for circulation areas. On the Ciselora, both temperatures are possible depending on the bulb. To adjust the intensity in the evening, look at the dimmable versions.

How should you arrange wall lights in a staircase or hallway?

The goal is to guide your step without glare: place the light points on the same side, following the climb for a staircase, and at regular intervals for a hallway. A model with a marked projection lights more widely than a wall light flush against the wall. In terms of height, aim for light that does not fall directly into the eyes of the person going up. The Metallia, a 20 × 7.5 cm ball in metal and wood, suits this type of wall.

Staircase: one wall light at the top and one at the bottom?

Two light points, one at the bottom of the flight and one at the top, are often enough to make a straight staircase safe. On a long flight or a quarter turn, add an intermediate point to avoid the dark zone at the landing. Find the staircase wall lights.

Long hallway: how do you avoid shadow zones?

Space the wall lights evenly, rather than multiplying sources on just one side of the door. The round shape diffuses widely, the oval stretches the light along the wall and suits narrow hallways well. The hallway models let you compare silhouettes.

High-end designer wall lights: what sets them apart?

The difference comes down to three things: the work on the metal and iron, the shape, and the finish. An opal glass sphere, a cylindrical shade or a metal and wood ball do not give the same light. The design matters just as much: projection, mounting plate, E27 or G9 socket, and sometimes an integrated LED spot. The designer LED wall lights bring together these crafted pieces.

Model Materials Shape and dimensions Socket and power Light temperature Finishes
Ciselora Metal, iron, opal glass, linen Opal glass sphere with oval outline, 41 × 12 cm G9 Warm white 2700-3500 K or cool white 4500-6500 K Black or gold
Calypsa Metal, cylindrical shade Height 27 cm, shade Ø 20 × 15 cm, backplate 11 × 11 cm, projection 15.3 cm E27 40 W max + 1 W LED spot Warm white 2700-3500 K Black or brown
Metallia Metal, wood, iron Ball, 20 × 7.5 cm E27 Not specified White, beige or red

E27 or G9 socket: what difference does it make for your wall light?

The E27 takes a standard screw bulb, up to 40 W on the model concerned, and can be replaced anywhere. The G9 is more compact and fits into a sphere or a small volume. If you want to grab a bulb from a drawer, the E27 is simpler. Compare the E27 wall lights.

IP20: what this changes for your installation

IP20 means two things: protected against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm, and no protection against water. These wall lights are therefore fitted in dry interiors, never in a bathroom exposed to splashes or under a canopy. For a damp room, you need a higher rating, such as the IP44 wall lights.

Where should you install a wrought iron wall light in the home?

Beyond the living room and bedroom, these wall lights play their part in a hallway, a staircase, an entrance, a dining room, a kitchen or a toilet. All the models in the selection are IP20: they are fitted indoors, in rooms without water splashes. What you expect from the light changes from one room to another, and the choice of format follows. At the entrance, plan for a light point that welcomes without dazzling the visitor.

Room What you expect from the light What matters in the choice Suitable models
Living room Accent lighting that highlights a wall or a sofa Shape readable from a distance, black or gold finish Ciselora, Calypsa, Metallia
Bedroom Soft light for reading without lighting the whole room Warm white, compact size, fitted high up Calypsa, Ciselora, Metallia
Hallway and staircase Guide your step without glare Projection and even spacing of light points Ciselora, Metallia
Entrance Welcome and make the passage safe Durability of the metal, easy maintenance Metallia, Calypsa, Ciselora
Kitchen or dining room Accent lighting above a worktop or a sideboard Compact shape, easy cleaning Metallia
Toilet and office Focused, discreet lighting Small format, warm light, opaline sphere Calypsa, Ciselora

A wrought iron wall light in an open or closed kitchen?

In a kitchen, steam and splashes rule out unprotected models near the sink or the hob. Place the wall light away from cooking areas, on a dry wall, and choose a shape that is easy to wipe with a cloth. The kitchen wall lights meet this need.

Entrance and landing: which model to welcome guests?

A compact model, in white or beige, opens up a small space without weighing it down. For a toilet, a small format with warm light is more than enough. See the entrance lighting wall lights and the small wall lights for toilets.

Art deco, retro or antique wall light: how do you find your way?

These wall lights belong to a modern, contemporary, minimalist or Nordic register. They do not reproduce an art deco silhouette or an antique piece. If you are looking for a 1930s line, it is better to compare the retro and vintage metal collections, whose metalwork is close to these models. For an understated interior, the ball, round and oval shapes fit in effortlessly.

Antique wrought iron or matte black finish?

Iron is the material; wrought iron refers to a worked, bent and assembled metal, which allows for supple shapes and decorative finishes. In this selection, the bodies often combine metal and iron, sometimes with wood or glass. A matte black finish gives a clean, current look, without the uneven patina of an antique piece. Browse the vintage metal and the retro style.

How do you recognise a 1930s art deco wall light?

An art deco wall light is recognisable by its geometric lines, its fan or palm motifs and its elongated proportions, with materials such as brass, moulded glass or bakelite. The models shown here do not have these codes. A wall light with a candle silhouette belongs to the same antique register and is better sought among retro and vintage styles.

Can you install a wrought iron wall light outdoors?

Not the models in this selection. Their protection rating is IP20, a classification intended for dry interiors, with no protection against rain or water splashes. For a facade wall, a terrace or a porch, you need a waterproof outdoor wall light, in IP44 or IP65 depending on exposure. The IP rating describes resistance to solids and water: the higher the second digit, the more the piece withstands humidity and bad weather.

Why an IP20 rating rules out outdoor installation

An IP20 housing lets water in through its openings: on a facade, humidity would reach the electrical connection. Outdoor installation requires a seal and a body designed to drain water away. See the waterproof outdoor models.

Terrace and facade: which wall lights should you choose?

Under a sheltered canopy, IP44 protects against splashes; on a facade exposed to rain, aim for IP65. Metal and finish also matter when facing sea spray and frost. Find the IP44 wall lights and the full range of Designix lighting.

How do you install and maintain a wrought iron wall light?

Three checks before drilling: the type of surface, the cable routing and the footprint of the wall light once fitted. The projection determines the distance between the wall and the light: on the Calypsa, it is 15.3 cm for an 11 × 11 cm backplate. Switch off the power at the breaker before any work, locate the conduit and check that the backplate covers the cable outlet.

What to check before drilling into the wall

A plasterboard wall needs a suitable plug, a solid wall an expansion plug, and a hollow partition a support fixed into the frame. Locate the electrical supply with a detector, note the gap between the holes in the backplate, then mark with a pencil. Finally, check that the wall light does not obstruct a door or a cupboard. See the designer LED wall light catalogue to spot the shapes and projections.

Cleaning metal, wood and glass without damaging them

A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough on metal and iron; dry immediately to avoid marks. Opal glass is cleaned with a non-abrasive product, never with a scouring pad. On wood and linen, dust dry. Avoid alkaline sprays on matte black and gold finishes.

Frequently asked questions about wrought iron wall lights

Which wall lights should you choose for a living room?

A wall light that stands out without taking over the wall: opal glass sphere, metal and wood ball or cylindrical shade. Placed on either side of a sofa or a bookcase, it creates balanced accent lighting, in IP20 and warm white for relaxation.

Which wall lights for an adult bedroom?

One wall light on each side of the bed replaces bedside lamps and frees the bedside table. Choose a compact model, a warm white light of 2700 to 3500 K when specified, and fit it high enough not to get in the way.

How should you arrange wall lights in a staircase?

On the same side, following the climb, to light the route evenly without dark zones or glare. One wall light at the top and one at the bottom are often enough, and a model with a marked projection lights more widely.

Where can you find high-end designer wall lights?

Design can be read in the material and the finish: worked metal and iron, opal glass, cylindrical shade, black or gold body. The designer LED wall light and vintage metal collections let you compare these pieces before choosing.

Is there a candle-style wrought iron wall light?

This selection favours ball, round and oval shapes rather than the candle silhouette. If you like that shape, first compare the retro and vintage metal collections, whose metalwork is close to these antique candle models.

Can you install a wrought iron wall light outdoors?

Not the models in this collection: their rating is IP20, intended for dry interiors, with no protection against rain or splashes. For a facade, a terrace or a porch, choose a waterproof outdoor wall light in IP44 or IP65.

What is the difference between an iron wall light and a wrought iron wall light?

Iron is the material; wrought iron refers to a worked, bent and assembled metal, which allows for suppler shapes and more decorative finishes. In this selection, the bodies often combine metal and iron, sometimes with wood or glass.
