First count the room: an IP20 strip or strip-light fixture is installed in a dry space, kitchen, living room, hallway, dining room or bedroom. This selection brings together models from 15 W to 45 W, in white or black, some of which give off a warm white of 2700 K to 3500 K.

What exactly is a waterproof LED strip?

A waterproof LED strip refers to a strip or fixture whose IP rating indicates the level of protection against dust and water. The references in this selection are IP20: they are installed indoors, in a kitchen, living room, hallway, dining room or bedroom. For outdoor use, showers or pools, dedicated collections exist.

Waterproof LED strip and IP20: how to read the protection rating

An IP rating is written with two digits. The first indicates protection against solid objects and dust, from 0 to 6. The second indicates protection against water, from 0 to 8, where 4 corresponds to splashes, 5 and 6 to jets, 7 and 8 to immersion.

An IP20 therefore means protected against fingers and objects larger than 12.5 mm, but with no protection against water. This is the sufficient level for a dry room where a damp cloth is rarely used. All the references presented here are IP20, including the Rubano zigzag strip ceiling light. This marker can be found throughout the complete lighting catalogue.

Outdoor, shower or pool waterproof LED strip: where to look

As soon as a wet room or outdoor area is involved, IP20 is no longer enough. Near a bathtub, shower or pool, reinforced protection against splashes or immersion is required. This selection does not cover these uses.

Suitable solutions can be found in strips protected for pool lighting and in the other families of the catalogue. Always check the second digit of the IP rating before ordering for a damp room.

How to choose a waterproof LED strip according to the room?

The choice depends first on the location: a damp room requires reinforced protection, while a dry room is satisfied with an IP20 like the one in this selection. Then come the length to cover, the power of the model and the desired light colour for the atmosphere.

Which strip-light fixture according to the room
Room What is sought Type of fixture References in the selection
Kitchen Clear light on worktops and traffic areas Ceiling light Rubano, Rubana, Moln
Dining room A light placed above the table Ceiling light or pendant Rubano, Rubana, Vorada
Living room General lighting without shadow areas Ceiling light Rubano, Rubana, Vorada, Vorada 60 cm
Bedroom Soft light, on the ceiling or suspended Ceiling light or pendant Rubano, Rubana, Moln
Hallway Clear lighting for passage Ceiling light Rubano, Rubana, Vorada
Staircase A suspended point that lights the stairwell Pendant Rubana

Waterproof LED strip for bathroom or shower: what to check

In a bathroom or near a shower, the protection rating takes precedence over colour and power. A wet room is treated as a separate zone, even if the rest of the floor is dry.

Since the models in this selection are IP20, reserve them for dry volumes and turn to protected strips for the wet zone. The flexible LED strips in the catalogue come in different protection levels, which allows comparison before making a choice.

Kitchen, living room, bedroom: what length and intensity to plan

First measure the length to cover, then the expected light. A worktop requires clear and even light, without cast shadows. A bedroom accepts softer light, placed around the perimeter or on the ceiling.

On a staircase or in a hallway, the light point must mark the passage without dazzling. In this selection, the stated power ranges from 15 W for the Moln pendants to 45 W for Rubano, which gives a first indication of light level according to the surface area.

What power and light temperature for an LED strip?

Power gives an idea of the light level: in this selection, the strip-light fixtures range from 15 W to 45 W. The colour temperature sets the atmosphere: warm white, from 2700 K to 3500 K, is found on the Vorada ceiling lights and suits living rooms.

Comparison of strip-light fixtures
Reference Type Stated dimensions Socket Power Colour
Rubano Ceiling light H 120 mm, L 410 mm, W 510 mm LED 45 W White
Rubana Pendant Ø 60 cm, height adjustable from 45.7 to 325.7 cm LED 31 W Black
Moln small model Pendant not specified E27 15 W White
Moln 3 lights Pendant not specified not specified 15 W White
Vorada 60 cm Ceiling light H 17 cm, L 60 cm LED 29 W White
Vorada Ceiling light H 17 cm LED 25 W White

Warm white 2700 K to 3500 K: which atmosphere to choose

Below 3000 K, the light tends towards amber and relaxes: this is the register of a bedroom or a lounge corner. Around 3000 K, the rendering remains warm but clearer, useful in a kitchen or dining room. Towards 3500 K, we enter an intermediate white, more neutral, suited to work and circulation areas.

The Vorada ceiling lights give off this warm white from 2700 K to 3500 K, which makes them versatile from one room to another. If you are looking for a very enveloping atmosphere, compare the 2700 K strips with the 3000 K strips. For a light that changes hue, the RGB LED strips and the RGBW strips with adjustable white open up other possibilities.

15 W, 25 W, 29 W, 31 W or 45 W: reading the useful power

The stated power is an electrical consumption, not a promise of brightness. Two fixtures of the same power do not give the same rendering if their shape, diffuser or mounting height differ.

Use it as a relative marker: Rubano, at 45 W, targets large living rooms. Rubana, at 31 W, and the Vorada ceiling lights, at 29 W and 25 W, cover most rooms. The Moln pendants, at 15 W, are suitable for additional lighting and small volumes.

Cuttable LED strip: how does it work?

A cuttable LED strip is cut only at the marks indicated by the manufacturer, never between two LEDs at random: beyond that, the adjacent portion stops working. Cut with the power off, then close the line with a suitable connector on the designated areas.

Cutting an LED strip: marks and precautions

Locate the printed lines along the strip: they mark the only authorised cutting points. Cut straight, with a clean tool, on a stable support. Always work with the power off, supply disconnected.

Never cut a strip while powered or at an unmarked location, even if the cut seems more practical. If you are unsure about the length, keep a margin and check the result before fixing permanently.

Extending, connecting or reusing an offcut

A connector closes the line and allows you to continue around another angle or towards a second worktop. The choice of connector depends on the type of strip and the supply voltage.

An offcut can be reused if it remains powered: otherwise, it no longer lights up. To compare solutions, look at the 24 V low-voltage strips, often chosen for long runs, and the 220 V strips to connect to the mains, which avoid the power supply unit.

Ceiling light or pendant with strip light: which to install?

The ceiling light is installed near the ceiling and diffuses a wide light: Rubano, 510 mm long, and Vorada are suitable for rooms where people move around. The pendant, such as Rubana and its 60 cm diameter adjustable in height, is reserved for volumes that accept a suspended point above a table or staircase.

LED ceiling light for the living room, kitchen or hallway

The ceiling light remains the simplest solution: low profile, distributed light, no cable to adjust. the Rubano zigzag strip ceiling light measures H 120 mm, L 410 mm and W 510 mm, a length designed to cover a living room.

For a more enveloping light, the Vorada white wrapped strip ceiling light measures H 17 cm and gives off a warm white from 2700 K to 3500 K. Its longer version, the Vorada 60 cm ceiling light, keeps the same height to light a larger room.

Strip-light pendant: bedroom, staircase and dining room

A pendant brings the light down towards the area to be lit. Rubana, with its 60 cm diameter and adjustable height from 45.7 to 325.7 cm, adapts as well to a stairwell as to a living room with a high ceiling. Its version the Rubana black spiral pendant adds a dark and striking point in a light interior.

More discreet, the Moln small model pendant and the Moln three-light pendant are suitable for a bedroom or above a small dining corner. Always check the clear height between the floor and the lowest point before fixing.

How to complete with an LED wall light or an LED chandelier?

An LED wall light illuminates a wall or a circulation area without coming down from the ceiling, as a complement to a ceiling light or a strip. The LED chandelier, on the other hand, takes the place of the ceiling light when the room has volume and a more visible central point is wanted: these two families can be found in the lighting catalogue.

Powerful LED wall light: lighting a wall without a ceiling light

The wall light is installed on a circulation wall, or on either side of a sofa, to avoid turning on the ceiling light in the evening. It is chosen from the same family as the rest of the lighting, to keep a consistent tone.

First check the mounting height: around 1.70 m to 1.80 m from the floor for everyday use, depending on the room and the size of the occupants. The rest is about colour and material. The guide to lighting and interior lighting details these families.

LED chandelier for living room: when it replaces the ceiling light

The chandelier takes the place of the ceiling light when the room has height and a visible central point is sought, above a table or in the middle of a living room. In interiors with low ceilings, a ceiling light like Rubano or Vorada remains more suitable.

The chandelier requires a solid fixing point and sufficient clear height. If the room hesitates between the two, an adjustable pendant offers a compromise: it brings the light down without occupying the whole volume.

How to install and maintain a strip-light fixture?

Installation begins by locating the fixing points before drilling, then by connecting with the power off. Depending on the references in the selection, the warranty is 3 years or 5 years. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough on a white wrapped strip.

Fixing, power supply and connection safety

Present the fixture to the ceiling, mark the holes, then drill. Use plugs suitable for the support, plaster, concrete or wood. Switch off the power at the circuit breaker before any work on the wires.

Then check that the fixture holds without play and that the cable is not taut. For a model with a remote power supply, provide an accessible location for the box, so that you can work on it later without dismantling everything.

Cleaning and maintaining a white wrapped strip

A soft cloth, slightly damp if needed, is enough to dust a wrapped strip. Avoid abrasive products and direct splashes on electrical parts, even on a dry-room model.

The warranty is indicated according to the references, 3 years or 5 years: keep the invoice for any request. On a model with an E27 socket like the Moln small model pendant, the bulb can be replaced without tools; it is already integrated on Rubano, Rubana and the Vorada ceiling lights.

Why choose Designix for your LED strip lighting?

Designix offers secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and a customer service to help you choose between a fixture with integrated LED and a model with an E27 socket. The selection is mostly white, with a few black pieces, from contemporary to modern style.

Secure payment, tracked delivery and returns

Secure payment protects the order, delivery is tracked to your address, and returns remain possible if the model does not suit once installed. A doubt about a dimension or a finish is resolved before ordering.

Designix customer service answers questions about choosing a model, the height of a pendant or the compatibility of a bulb. A look at the complete lighting catalogue is often enough to compare two references side by side.

Integrated LED or E27 socket: getting advice

The integrated LED cannot be replaced, but it avoids any handling and keeps a consistent rendering, as on the Rubano ceiling light or the Vorada ceiling lights. The E27 socket, present on the Moln small model pendant, leaves the choice of bulb and its temperature free.

If you prefer to adjust the intensity or hue later, E27 remains the most flexible. For a uniform rendering without maintenance, the integrated LED is simpler. The guide to lighting and interior lighting covers these criteria, and the flexible LED strips complete the linear solutions.

Frequently asked questions about waterproof LED strips

Outdoor waterproof LED strip: how to light outside?

For outdoor use, protection against rain and splashes is necessary, which this selection does not offer, as its references are IP20 and intended for indoor use. Strips designed for the garden, terrace or pool can be found in the dedicated collections of the catalogue.

Waterproof LED strip 12 V or 24 V: what is the difference?

A 12 V or 24 V strip operates at low voltage and requires a power supply to be provided; a 230 V strip connects directly to the mains. The choice depends on the length, the location and the space available for the box. The 24 V low-voltage strips and the 220 V strips detail each solution.

Waterproof LED strip for bathroom: what to check?

In a bathroom or near a shower, the protection rating becomes the main criterion, before colour or power. As this selection is IP20, it is reserved for dry areas; for a wet room, compare the protected strips offered in the dedicated collections.

Powerful LED ceiling light: how to recognise it?

The stated power gives the first indication: in this selection, the Rubano ceiling light shows 45 W, the Rubana pendant 31 W and the Vorada ceiling lights 25 W and 29 W. A large volume requires a generous model, installed near the ceiling to diffuse widely.

LED ceiling lighting: where to start?

Start with the room and the use: a circulation area requires clear light on the ceiling, a bedroom softer light. Then check the available power, from 15 W to 45 W in this selection, then the IP rating, IP20 for indoor use. Shape and length are chosen last.
