Count the height and exposure before looking at style: a 119 to 177 cm solar LED street lamp on a stand lights a terrace without taking up floor space, while a spike format marks an entrance. This selection brings together tube or globe silhouettes, mostly IP65, guaranteed for two years.
Which solar LED street lamp should you choose for your space?
The choice first comes down to the space. For a terrace or garden, a 119 to 177 cm lamp on a stand lights an area without taking up floor space, in tube or globe form. Near an entrance, a spike model or a small size works better.
Solar LED street lamp on a stand: for the terrace and garden
On a stand, the source rises above seated eye level: the table stays lit without dazzling guests. Castalia, the conical tube in cool white, comes in 119 cm and 177.2 cm, in plastic and metal, IP65. Its straight stem fits along a bay window. For a more dressed-up look, Ardea and its Art Deco tube measures 45 x 143 cm and gives off a warm white. Solar outdoor lamps placed at the edge of a terrace define the living area without closing it off.
Spike model or small format: for the entrance and flower beds
A spike format is planted in a flower bed or gravel and marks a path without a slab to pour. Sféa, the spike format for flower beds, combines resin, plastic and metal in IP44: it is meant for a sheltered spot. For an open entrance, a small stand format holds up better in the wind. Solar garden lights cover both uses.
| Model | Format and dimensions | Material | Light | Protection | Recommended rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Castalia | Conical tube, 119 cm or 177.2 cm | Plastic and metal | Cool white 4500 - 6500 K | IP65 | Outdoor, terrace |
| Ardea | Art Deco tube, 45 x 143 cm | Plastic and metal | Warm white 2700 - 3500 K | IP65 | Outdoor, terrace, living room |
| Solaria | Art Deco globe, 36.6 x 142.7 cm | Metal | Warm white 2700 - 3500 K | IP65 | Outdoor |
| Sféa | Spike format, garden spike | Resin, plastic and metal | Not specified on the sheet | IP44 | Outdoor, terrace, entrance, living room |
What light does a solar lamp give: warm white or cool white?
Two temperatures coexist in this selection. Warm white, between 2700 and 3500 K, gives a light close to indoor lighting and suits terraces and dining areas. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, makes outlines sharper and marks a path or facade more strongly.
Warm white 2700 - 3500 K: ambient light
These are the softest temperatures to live with in the evening: they do not wash out faces and blend with living room light when the bay stays open. Solaria, the solar metal globe, gives off this warm white from a sphere 36.6 cm in diameter and 142.7 cm high, with a fully metal body and IP65. A globe gives light without a marked direction, useful above a coffee table or a relaxation corner. Solar LED lamps group these references with warm light.
Cool white 4500 - 6500 K: light that draws
More neutral, it picks out steps, borders and the relief of a wall. This is the register of Castalia, at 4500 to 6500 K. Best kept for walkways and facades: over a dining table, this rendering looks harder.
| Temperature | Models concerned | Perceived effect | Where to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm white 2700 - 3500 K | Ardea, Solaria | Soft light, close to indoor lighting | Terrace, dining area, around bay windows |
| Cool white 4500 - 6500 K | Castalia | Sharp light that draws outlines | Path, facade, garden |
How does a solar LED street lamp work?
A panel captures daylight and recharges a built-in battery, which powers the LED at nightfall: no cable to run, no connection to the grid. Recharging depends on the panel's exposure, the season and the weather, hence the importance of choosing an open location.
Why solar avoids wiring work
No trench, no conduit, no work on the electrical panel: the light is set down or planted, and that is it. This is what makes these models suitable for a rental or an already landscaped garden. For other solutions without site constraints, see wireless lighting.
What influences recharging through the seasons
The panel's orientation, the cleanliness of its surface and the number of sunlight hours vary the available charge. In winter, expect a shorter reserve than in summer, without being able to promise precise autonomy: it depends on the model and the location. Clearing the sensor remains the most effective step.
Where to install a solar outdoor lamp?
Location determines the result. The panel must stay clear of shadows cast by a wall, a tree or a hedge. On a terrace, the lamp is placed at the edge of the area to light without dazzling; near an entrance, it frames the passage. All these models are designed for outdoor use.
Terrace and garden: light without dazzling
Position the stand one or two metres from the edge of the area to be lit, never in line with the seats. A light of 140 cm and above lights from above; aim it towards the table rather than the house. Designer outdoor lamps lend themselves to this placement exercise.
Entrance and path: mark the passage
On a path, two low points are better than one high point: the eye follows a line of markers. A spike format planted at the edge of gravel is enough to trace the walk. For an adjustable model, adjustable lamps let you fine-tune the beam after installation.
IP44 or IP65: which protection rating for outdoors?
IP65 concerns three of the models in the selection: they stay exposed to rain and splashes, on an open terrace or at the edge of a garden. IP44 corresponds to a more sheltered use, under an awning or a covered terrace. Material also matters: metal, treated plastic, resin.
What an IP65 rating protects against
The first digit covers solid bodies, the second water: an IP65 withstands splashes and driving rain without being designed for immersion. Castalia, Ardea and Solaria fall into this category, with a body mixing metal and treated plastic, or metal alone for Solaria. Metal outdoor lamps age well when exposed.
Sheltered use: when IP44 is enough
Under an awning, a closed pergola or against a recessed wall, water does not reach the light directly: an IP44 is enough, as on Sféa. The common-sense rule remains to look at what the unit actually receives, not the distance from the house.
How to match your solar lamp with the facade and garden?
The shapes in this selection are deliberately simple: tube or globe on a stand, on a discreet base. The beige, anthracite, gold, pink or white finishes match cladding, light render or garden furniture. Two styles stand out, modern and Art Deco.
Art Deco style: vertical lines and globe
The slim stem, the ball or the fluted tube recall 1930s facade lights, with a dressed-up look that works as well on a terrace as near a bay window. Ardea (beige) and Solaria (beige, metal) carry this register. Find these silhouettes in modern outdoor lamps and designer metal lamps.
Modern style: tubes and slim silhouettes
A straight stem, a bold colour, no ornament: this style steps back behind the architecture and suits contemporary facades. Castalia comes in anthracite, gold and pink, which leaves room to echo joinery or a gate. Black outdoor lamps and white versions give the two extremes, to choose according to the wall.
How to maintain and make a solar lamp last?
Maintenance comes down to a few steps: wipe the panel and the diffuser to keep performance, remove accumulated leaves and dust, check the stability of the stand after a gust of wind. The two-year guarantee applies to the whole selection.
Clean the solar panel and the diffuser
A soft damp cloth is enough, without abrasive product or high-pressure jet. A sensor covered in dust or pollen recharges less well, and a cloudy diffuser loses its brightness. Two passes a year, in spring and autumn, cover the essentials.
Wintering and strong winds
After a storm, check the tightness and anchoring of the stand: a tall lamp offers more wind resistance than a spike format. If you winter a movable model, store it under cover and bring it out again when it warms up. A question about a specific model is handled by Designix customer service.
What mistakes should you avoid with a solar outdoor lamp?
Three mistakes come up. Placing the panel in the shadow of a wall or vegetation, which reduces recharging. Choosing a format that is too imposing for a small passage. Neglecting the protection rating and exposing an IP44 model to driving rain. Also check the available height before fixing.
Panel exposure: the most common mistake
A sensor in the shadow of a hedge or under a roof overhang does not recharge properly, even if the light itself is well placed. Note the sun's path over the day before fixing. For other placement ideas, compare with LED outdoor lamps.
Format, height and bulk
A 177 cm stem at the edge of a narrow staircase gets in the way: in that case, a small size or a spike is more appropriate. Measure the width of the passage and the clear height before ordering. To broaden your search by room, browse all our lights and the selection of solar outdoor lamps.
How much should you budget for a solar LED street lamp?
The budget reads on three levels: entry-level models, compact and in resin or plastic; metal stand pieces, taller; and worked design models, like the Art Deco globes. The current price is shown on each product sheet, with real availability.
Read a product sheet rather than a price
Three pieces of information weigh more than the price difference: the protection rating, the body material and the deployed height. An IP65 in metal in a very wet location will last longer than a less protected model. To place the other styles, see modern outdoor and designer outdoor.
Order with peace of mind
Secure payment, tracked delivery and possible returns: measure the height of your models (119 cm for Castalia, 143 cm for Ardea) before fixing the stand. A doubt about height or colour? Designix customer service answers before you order.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best brand of solar outdoor lamp?
There is no single brand that stands out: quality is read on the sheet, protection rating, body material, colour temperature and height. At Designix, the selection brings together models in metal, treated plastic and resin, guaranteed for two years, with price and availability shown on each product.
What is the downside of solar lamps?
Their performance depends on the sun: in winter or after several overcast days, recharging decreases and the light lasts less long. They light an area without wiring, but they do not replace powerful permanent lighting. An open location remains the condition for a good result.
Does a solar LED street lamp work without wiring?
Yes. The panel recharges a built-in battery that powers the LED, with no mains connection or trench to dig. Installation is limited to setting down or fixing the lamp in an open spot, then letting it capture daylight. IP65 models accept direct exposure to rain.
Should you choose a solar LED outdoor lamp with a sensor?
The sensor is used to briefly light a passage, not to create an atmosphere: it triggers on movement. The specifications of this selection do not mention a built-in sensor. If you are looking for lighting that stays on continuously on a terrace, a classic solar lamp is a better match.
Can these lights illuminate a covered terrace or a living room?
Some models in the selection are given for the terrace, entrance or living room: their warm white light, between 2700 and 3500 K, matches an interior. They are used as a complement to room lighting, on a covered terrace or in an open living room. The stand format remains the most suitable.
One last marker before choosing: note the clear height of your terrace or path, then compare it with the dimensions on the sheet. Compare the LED outdoor lamps and order with secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and the help of Designix customer service.
