Measure the space available above the surface to be lit, then choose the shape: a globe for a central point, an oval or a bar for a long table. Smoked glass is a grey-tinted glass that softens the light while keeping the bulb visible. This collection brings together glass pendant lights, all rated IP20, mostly with an E27 socket, often with a black fitting and adjustable cables.
What is a smoked glass pendant light and what light does it give off?
Smoked glass is a grey-tinted glass, more or less pronounced depending on its thickness. Light passes through it, but it is filtered: the bulb remains visible through the globe and the halo is softer than behind clear glass. The entire selection is made of glass and rated IP20, so it is intended for dry indoor rooms, with no water splashes.
What colour is smoked glass?
A grey, from light grey to anthracite grey. The perceived shade shifts with the bulb: it leans warm with a warm white, cool with a cool white. A few pieces play on the contrast between smoked glass and clear glass, such as the smoked glass globe with a circular opening. To compare shades with each other, look at the grey pendant lights.
Which bulb for a smoked glass pendant light?
A warm white bulb, around 2700 to 3500 K, warms up the grey of the glass and suits both the living room and the dining room. A cool white, more like 4500 to 6500 K, gives a sharper result above a worktop. The socket stated on the product page takes priority: most models accept an E27, a few small globes an E14, and part of the selection runs on integrated LED.
Where to install a smoked glass pendant light in the home?
These lights go first in the living room, the dining room and the kitchen, then in the hallway and the bedroom. Some long pieces, with a cascade or a very adjustable cable, are designed for the height of a staircase or a stairwell opening. The principle remains the same everywhere: smoked glass announces the point of light without weighing down the room.
Smoked glass pendant lights for the dining room
Above a table, the pendant light marks the centre and replaces the ceiling light. One globe is enough for four place settings, an oval or a bar covers a long table. The oval pendant light with black cable illustrates this case: a single, wide diffuser that lights the whole length without multiplying ceiling points.
Black smoked glass pendant lights for the kitchen
Above an island or a worktop, the black of the fitting holds the light without scattering it. Look at the glass pendant lights for the kitchen, often in a bar or in a row, and for a more graphic feel the black design pendant lights. For a bedroom, the black models for the bedroom work with a short cable and a low-power bulb.
Which shape to choose: globe, oval, sphere or linear?
The globe dominates the selection, followed by the oval and the sphere, then round shapes, linear bars and multi-point cascades. The choice comes down to two measurements: the length of the table and the free height under the ceiling. The longer the table, the more the diffuser lengthens or multiplies.
Smoked glass pendant light: globe or oval?
The globe concentrates the light on one point: perfect for a small table, a pedestal table or a hallway. The oval spreads the beam over the length, without creating a dark zone at the ends. A large oval suits a big gathering, a small globe is enough for a more intimate table; the exact dimensions are on the product page.
Bar with several diffusers: for which table?
Bars align three, four or five diffusers on a single horizontal support. They suit large tables and long worktops, where a single pendant light would leave corners in the shade. The black bar with five LED lamps covers an entire counter, while a four-shade version is aimed more at the dining room.
| Shape | What it lights | Room where it goes | Model in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Globe | A central point above a table or an island | Living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway | Fumelie, Fuméea |
| Oval or sphere | A long table, a hallway, a reading corner | Living room, dining room, bedroom | Fuméo, Fuvosa |
| Linear with three or four shades | A long worktop or a large table | Dining room, kitchen | Valdanaro, Cyle, Ternio |
| Bar with five lamps | A whole table, a counter | Dining room, kitchen | Quinella, Cinereo |
| Cascade of globes and spotlights | The height of a staircase, a stairwell opening | Staircase, living room, dining room | Bouvet, Fumera |
Which socket and bulb for a smoked glass pendant light?
The E27 socket is the most common in this selection, ahead of integrated LED models and a few small E14 sockets on narrow globes. A minority of models accept a dimmer to adjust the intensity. Check the wording on the product page before ordering the bulb, because an integrated LED cannot be replaced.
E27 or E14 socket?
The E27, a wide socket, is the standard for living room lights: it opens up the choice of bulbs, including filament models. The E14 is found on small globes and compact shapes, where a wide bulb would not fit. As for integrated LED versions, they come already equipped.
Should you use an LED bulb or a classic bulb?
An LED gives off little heat and produces the same light for less power, which matters in a closed globe. A classic or filament bulb, on the other hand, gives a warmer and more contrasted result through smoked glass. Both coexist on models with an E27 socket.
| Element | What the collection offers | What it implies |
|---|---|---|
| Socket | Mostly E27, E14 on small globes, integrated LED on part of the models | Choose the bulb according to the socket stated on the product page |
| Technology | Integrated LED on part of the selection | No bulb change on these versions |
| Protection rating | IP20 across the whole collection | Dry indoor rooms, away from water splashes |
| Colour temperature | Warm white 2700-3500 K, cool white 4500-6500 K | Warm white for the living room, cool white above a worktop |
| Dimmer | Compatible on a minority of models | Check the wording on the product page before buying |
Depending on the room to equip, the choice of bulb follows that of the light: an amber shade or a golden glass calls for a warm white, whereas a lighter glass supports a cooler white. The lighting catalogue lets you compare these combinations room by room.
At what height should a smoked glass pendant light be hung above a table?
Adjust the cable so you do not cross the bulb once seated, while keeping the passage clear around the table. The pendant light should stay above eye level and out of the way when you stand up. Several models in the collection are adjustable, with an adjustable cable and a height stated on the product page.
What height above a kitchen island?
Over an island, the constraint is the field of vision of the person preparing food: the bottom of the diffuser sits above eye level, never in front of it. An adjustable cable lets you fine-tune after the first installation, without taking the ceiling rose down again. Remember to leave the same distance for each point of a bar.
Adjustable pendant light: which cable should you plan for?
An adjustable cable is rarely cut: it is wound back into the ceiling rose or locked with a cable clamp. The stated maximum height, from 160 to 350 cm, depends on the model and not on the room. Before any work, switch off the circuit at the breaker.
How to match smoked glass with the fitting, the cable and the rest of the room?
Black dominates the fittings and cables, with variations in metal, iron and steel, and a touch of golden brass on a few pieces. The glass comes in smoked, grey or clear. One useful rule: pick up the metal already present in the room, taps, handles or furniture legs.
Smoked glass and golden fitting: does it work?
Yes, as long as you do not pile up finishes. A golden fitting on smoked glass creates a warm and cool contrast that works well in a living room or a bedroom, especially if brass already exists elsewhere. If the room is entirely steel or black, stay with a black fitting.
Textile cable or discreet cable?
A textile cable is visible and becomes a decorative element: keep it for rooms where the pendant light stands alone. A thin, discreet cable fades away, which suits rows of several points and minimalist interiors. In both cases, the colour of the cable follows that of the fitting.
To broaden your comparisons, the smoked and black models form the largest base, the black glass pendant lights harden the contrast, and the smoked glass pieces with a vintage feel play on slim fittings. The golden metal pendant lights and the white glass serve as a reference when you hesitate between warm and neutral.
How many light points for a large table, an island or a staircase?
A single globe suits a small table or a hallway. Three to five shades or globes cover a large table, and a bar with four diffusers lights a long worktop without multiplying ceiling holes. The number follows the length to cover, not the size of the room.
When should you move to three light points?
As soon as the table exceeds what a single diffuser can cover without leaving the ends in the shade. Three globes aligned on the same ceiling rose handle a table of six to eight place settings. The six-globe smoked glass pendant light goes further, with 15 cm shades and a diameter of 105 cm, as stated on the product page.
Cascade or row: what is the difference?
A row places all the diffusers at the same height, above a horizontal surface. A cascade spreads them over the height, which suits a staircase or a stairwell opening, where there is no surface to light. The cascade of globes and spotlights goes up to 350 cm and is installed in a vertical volume.
How to clean and care for a smoked glass chandelier?
Switch off the power at the breaker, then wipe the glass with a barely damp microfibre cloth and a mild soap. Avoid alcohol, acetone and abrasive sponges, which attack the shade of the smoked glass; dry immediately so as not to leave limescale marks. Regular dusting of the globes and shades is enough to keep the same transparency, and a dry cloth on the black or golden fittings avoids marks.
Frequently asked questions about smoked glass pendant lights
What is smoked glass?
A tinted glass that takes on a more or less pronounced grey shade. It lets light through, but softens it and makes the bulb visible, which gives a softer and more enveloping light than clear glass.
What colour is smoked glass?
It is a grey, from light grey to anthracite grey depending on the thickness of the glass and the bulb used. In this selection, it sits alongside grey glass, clear glass and a few golden finishes. The shade looks warmer with a warm white bulb.
What are the pendant light trends for 2026?
For the living room in 2026, soft shapes and smoked or warm shades go with a warm white for an enveloping light.
No selection can predict a trend. What can be found today in this collection: globes and ovals in smoked glass, bars with several light points, black fittings, a few golden finishes and warm white LEDs. The lasting criterion remains the shape suited to the table.
What are the most beautiful design pendant lights?
There is no objective ranking: a design pendant light comes down to a simple line, glass well held by a slim fitting and a proportion that is right for the room. Here, the smoked glass globe, the oval and the black bar are the most common shapes. For another register, see the blue glass or the green glass.
Can a smoked glass pendant light be installed in a bathroom?
The IP20 rating of this collection makes it suitable for dry indoor rooms: living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway, bedroom or staircase. In a bathroom, it is better to choose a light whose protection rating is designed for wet areas.
How to choose and order without making a mistake
First note the socket and the maximum cable height on the product page, then the shape suited to your surface. The Fuméo pendant light and the Fryn pendant light illustrate two opposite approaches, the single oval and the six-globe set. For a single, striking fixture, the Bouvet cascade is installed in a staircase.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service: you order the right reference and you can change your mind if the height or the shade does not suit. The current price is shown on each product page.
