Plan on one wall light every two to three metres in a hallway, two on either side of a bed, a single one above a piece of furniture in an entryway. A plaster wall light is a wall-mounted fixture with a matte surface, most often white, that diffuses a soft light upwards, downwards or as a wash. In this collection, the lighting comes from a G9, GU10 or E27 socket or an integrated LED module, with warm white 2700-3500 K or neutral white 3500-4500 K depending on the model.

What is a plaster wall light and what light does it give?
A plaster wall light is a wall-mounted fixture with a matte surface, often white, that diffuses a soft light upwards, downwards or as a wash. In this collection, the lighting comes from a G9 socket or an integrated LED, with warm white 2700-3500 K or neutral white 3500-4500 K depending on the model. It is surface-mounted on the wall, with only a few centimetres of depth: 41 mm on the round Blanora, up to 110 mm for the Oridanano tube, while deep models such as Grasona (145 mm), Roslinella (165 mm) or Lunlineno (310 mm) require more clearance.
Why choose plaster rather than metal or glass?
Plaster does not reflect an image and does not create glare: the light falls on the wall without dazzling, which makes it comfortable in a hallway or on either side of a bed. Metal and glass play more on contrast and draw a visible object. For a fixture that stands out, look instead at our metal wall lights or the glass models. For a calm wall, plaster remains the safe choice.
A wash, up-and-down or bidirectional light?
Three families coexist here. The wash light, carried by a rounded diffuser such as Luvmenia, grazes the wall without lighting the room. Up-and-down lighting, such as Recara or Branval, marks two cones above and below the body. The double beam, on Tesser and Ostra, directs light to two sides at once. None replaces a ceiling light: these are accent lights.
Where to install a plaster wall light in the home?
Plaster suits all dry rooms: living room, bedroom, hallway, entryway, staircase, toilet or dressing room. It works as an accent or mood light, alongside a ceiling light, and is placed at eye level or to accompany a stair step. Two or three points are enough to change how a space reads, without touching the general lighting.
A wall light for the living room
In the living room, place it alone above a console or in a pair on either side of a sofa. A wide format, such as the Rosdanaro rectangular plaster wall light and its 300 mm length, holds a large wall; a small round one goes unnoticed near an armchair. To go further, browse our wall lighting for the living room.
Which wall lights for a hallway or staircase?
In a hallway, repeat the same model at regular intervals: the rhythm guides the eye better than a single point. On a staircase, choose a compact body and align it with the step. Our hallway wall lights and our wall solutions for staircases bring together the shapes suited to these narrow passages.
A wall light for the toilet, a design WC wall light
In the toilet, a short white wall light replaces a ceiling light that is often too high for the room. A round model of 150 mm or a short rectangle is enough, in warm white to stay soft. Find these formats in our round wall lights. Like all those in the collection, they are IP20: to be reserved for dry rooms.
| Room | Suitable shapes | Recommended light | To check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Round, dome, wide rectangular | Warm white for mood, neutral white for reading | Proportion of the wall, used alone or in a pair |
| Bedroom | Round 150 mm, rectangular | Warm white 2700-3500 K | Reading height, on either side of the bed |
| Hallway | Tube, rectangular with up-and-down light | Up-and-down lighting to guide | Regular repetition along the wall |
| Entryway | Square or compact tube | Direct light to find your way | Clearance around the door |
| Staircase | Compact, double beam | Warm white, steady output | Alignment with the step, clear passage |
| Toilet | Round or short rectangular | Warm white | Dry room, IP20 model |
Which powerful LED wall light for a living room or hallway?
Power depends on the type of source: the G9 models in this collection are rated up to 25 W, while integrated LED wall lights are around 5 W to 10 W. For a living room, choose according to the light you want and check dimmer compatibility, available on some models. Power alone says nothing about visual comfort.
A G9 or integrated LED wall light?
The G9 socket lets you choose the bulb, so the temperature and power, and replace the source later: this is the case for Luvmenia, Grasona, Torena, Branval and Recara, rated up to 25 W. Integrated LED cannot be replaced but uses little power: Plenara 6 W, Blanora 7.5 W, Rosdanaro 8 W, Lunarra 9.2 W. Two rarer sources complete the selection, a 10 W GU10 and a 15 W E27. Compare them in our LED wall lighting.
Can a wall light be installed on a dimmer?
On a minority of the models in the collection, dimming is provided for: check the specification before buying and use a dimmer compatible with the installed source, LED or bulb. A non-dimmable G9 bulb will dim poorly or buzz. If dimming matters to you, tell the Designix customer service team, they will point you to the relevant models.
Should you choose a white plaster wall light or a paintable plaster wall light?
The wall lights in this collection come in white, a material that blends into a light wall and reflects light. If you are looking for a paintable plaster wall light to match a coloured wall, first check the finish of the model and ask Designix customer service for advice before any painting. Not all matte finishes can be painted in the same way.
A white plaster wall light on a light wall
On a white or off-white wall, the wall light almost disappears and only the light remains visible: this is the desired effect in a hallway or staircase. It is also what makes it easy to pair with other pieces in the home. Our selection of white wall lights meets this intention.
A paintable plaster wall light: what to check
Painting requires a raw surface rather than an already treated coating. Ask for the exact finish of the model you are considering, test on a small inconspicuous area, and bear in mind that paint can change how the light renders. If in doubt, the white version remains the safest.
How to match a plaster wall light with country chic, bohemian or modern decor?
White plaster matches country chic, bohemian or minimalist decor because it stays discreet and lets material and light speak. Round or dome shapes soften a bohemian chic interior, while slim rectangles and tubes suit a modern or contemporary living room better. Colour takes a back seat, shape makes the style.
A bohemian or bohemian chic wall light
Pair it with textiles, wood and ceramics: a round, a dome or an oval opening fits in without competing with the rest. The Plenara dome wall light and its 180 mm width play this card. Repeat the same model on either side of a piece of furniture for a balanced result.
A modern or minimalist living room wall light
Straight lines, long bodies and tubes work better in a contemporary living room. Our selection of modern wall lights and the modern living room wall light page bring together these profiles, to be placed alone or in regular series.
Waterproof outdoor wall light or IP20: what to choose?
All the wall lights in this collection are rated IP20: they are installed indoors, on a dry wall, never in a wet room or outdoors. To light a bathroom or a facade, you need a waterproof model designed for humidity or bad weather. The protection rating has nothing to do with power or light quality.
What does IP20 mean on a wall light?
IP20 means the fixture is protected against contact with fingers and against solid objects of a certain size, but not against water splashes. An IP20 wall light is therefore suitable for a hallway, bedroom or living room, and should be kept away from any shower, bath or sink area. None of our plaster wall lights should be exposed to water.
How to light a bathroom or a terrace?
You need to change product family and aim for a higher rating, suited to wet areas. Our bathroom wall lights are designed for these rooms. For an outdoor wall, look for a model rated for outdoor use, never an IP20 model.
At what height and how to install a plaster wall light?
The wall lights in the collection are surface-mounted on the wall: at eye level in a hallway, aligned with the step on a staircase, on either side of a bed in a bedroom. Locating cables and electrical connection are a job for an electrician. Place the body flat, check the level, then screw onto a sound support.
At what height should a wall light be placed on a staircase?
In general, follow the step to be lit, slightly above the nosing, so that the light accompanies the climb without dazzling. Regular repetition matters more than the exact measurement: one model per landing, all at the same distance, gives a reliable guide. Check that the passage remains clear, especially with a deep body such as the Oridanano tube and its 110 mm.
How to care for a plaster wall light?
A soft, dry cloth is enough for dust; avoid abrasive products and a damp sponge, which mark a matte surface. Switch off the power before any work on the bulb or module, and let it cool. Manufacturer warranties range from 2 to 5 years depending on the model.
Which shapes and dimensions to choose among plaster wall lights?
The formats listed range from a round wall light 150 mm in diameter to a rectangle 300 mm long, including tubes 180 mm high. A small room calls for a compact format, a large wall for a wider model, placed alone or repeated in series. Measure the free height before choosing, especially above a counter or a step.
A round or rectangular wall light?
The round one soothes and is easy to repeat: Lunarra round wall light 250 mm for a large wall, 150 mm for a smaller space. The rectangle structures a line and lights a larger wall area at once. The choice depends mainly on the length of wall to dress.
A tube wall light: for which wall?
The tube stands out by its depth: 110 mm on the Oridanano tube model. It requires a clear wall, with no door or furniture right next to it, and makes most sense in a hallway or staircase where it repeats the vertical. On a narrow wall, prefer a flat shape.
| Shape | Dimensions listed | Reference model |
|---|---|---|
| Round | Ø 150 mm, depth 41 mm | Blanora |
| Round | Ø 250 mm, depth 55 mm | Lunarra |
| Rectangular | L 300 mm x H 80 mm, depth 45 mm | Rosdanaro |
| Tube | H 180 mm x L 70 mm, depth 110 mm | Oridanano |
| Dome | L 180 mm x H 85 mm, depth 80 mm | Plenara |
| Oval opening | L 180 mm x H 90 mm, depth 100 mm | Torena |

Frequently asked questions about the plaster wall light
How to find an original wall light?
Originality comes from the shape rather than the colour: oval opening, dome, tube, double beam or a luminous notch change the way light is projected. Plaster, matte and without reflection, highlights these cut-outs without drawing attention to the fixture itself.
Which wall light to choose for a living room?
In a living room, a plaster wall light complements the general lighting by diffusing a soft light upwards, downwards or as a wash. Choose a discreet format for a thin wall or a wide model above a sofa, and favour warm white for a relaxed mood.
Can a plaster wall light be recessed?
The models gathered here are surface-mounted wall lights that fix to the wall, with a few centimetres of depth. A recessed plaster wall light is another product, designed to be set into the partition: look for that specific wording if that is the result you want.
How to light a staircase with wall lights?
On a staircase, a surface-mounted wall light lights the step without cluttering the passage. Choose a compact model and repeat it identically along the climb, following the step, for steady light and a reliable visual guide.
Which wall light for the toilet, in a design version?
In the toilet, a white and compact wall light is a good replacement for a ceiling light, often too high for the room. As the models in this collection are IP20, reserve them for dry toilets and not for a very humid wet room.
Can a waterproof outdoor wall light be installed when it is IP20?
No: the IP20 rating means the wall light is protected against contact and dust but not against water. All the wall lights in this collection are IP20 and are installed indoors, on a dry wall. For outdoors, choose a waterproof model.
