Place the lamp where it lights what you are looking at: a console table behind the sofa, a shelf, a reading corner. A modern table lamp for living room gives low, directed accent light, never the ceiling light. The whole collection is IP20, so designed for dry rooms, with wattages from 5 W to 40 W and E27, G9 or GU10 bulbs.

What light does a modern table lamp for living room bring?
A modern table lamp for living room provides accent light: low, warm, directed at a wall, a console table or an armchair rather than at the ceiling. Depending on the model, it diffuses through a shade, leaves an E27 bulb visible, or relies on an integrated LED set in a ring or a directional tube.
Accent light, never the ceiling light
Placed behind the sofa, it draws a halo on the wall. On a console table, it makes a pool of light. Aimed at an armchair, it lights the page of a book. This low level is what is missing when the ceiling lights alone. All references are IP20: they are meant for dry rooms, living room, bedroom or office, never next to a water point. To see the available families, browse the whole lighting range.
Shade, visible bulb or integrated LED: three finishes
Three families coexist. The ribbed, smoked or amber glass shade filters the light and softens it, as on Tavel, a 16 cm amber glass on a black base, or on Opalya, a 45 cm smoked glass. The E27 bulb left visible, filament or clear, becomes a sharp point of light, on the ten centimetre cubes. The integrated LED lights without a bulb to change, like the ring of Anelo II, in brushed steel. Adjustable lamps add the direction of the beam.
Where to place a table lamp in a living room?
The models in the collection sit on a console table behind the sofa, a sideboard, a shelf, a coffee table or a reading corner trolley. The small ten centimetre cubes in wood, concrete or amber glass fit on a shelf, while the 43 cm tubes with adjustable shade aim further.
On a console table or sideboard, behind the sofa
A console table behind the sofa carries the tall models: Norsk with its cylindrical cork shade on a black metal frame, or Ventura, a 31 cm steel. The rule is simple: a table lamp lights what it looks at. Turned to the wall, it lights the wall; turned to the room, it lights faces. In a Nordic style interior, a light base does not cut the line of the sofa.
On a shelf, a coffee table or a ledge
The ten centimetre cubes, the light wood cube Selenia or Novlineta in grey concrete, fit on a shelf without cluttering it. On a coffee table, they make a point of light at seat height. The 43 cm tubes like Finola need a deeper piece of furniture or a reading corner trolley. To compare living room formats, see the design table lamps for living room.
Modern living room chandelier, living room wall light or table lamp: how to spread the sources?
A living room chandelier occupies the centre of the room and gives the general light; a wall light lights a wall or a passage area; the table lamp brings the low level, near the sofa or the armchair. These three sources complement each other rather than replace each other.
The chandelier lights the room, the table lamp lights a use
A modern living room chandelier lights from the ceiling and leaves the lower part of the room flatter. The table lamp brings the point of light down to seat height: reading, television, dinner on a sideboard. This collection contains only table lamps, which does not prevent pairing them with a chandelier already in place. For an original living room light, it is the most mobile source of the trio.
When a wall light replaces the table lamp
The wall light is fixed, at mid-height, and frees the furniture. The table lamp moves, changes room, sits on a shelf or a window ledge. In a living room, you often keep one wall light per area, hallway or painting, and one lamp placed near the sofa for the low level. The Designix lighting range lets you combine both.
How to choose between the models: socket, wattage, material and dimmer?
The socket decides the bulb, and therefore the finish: E27 for a standard bulb up to forty watts, G9 at eight watts and GU10 at ten watts on the adjustable tubes, integrated LED at five watts on the rings. The material, glass, steel, wood or concrete, changes the light and the silhouette.
| Socket | Wattage of the models | Bulb to provide | Use in the living room | Examples from the collection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E27 | 15 W to 40 W | Standard bulb, filament or LED | Console table, sideboard, low and diffuse light | Opalya, Cila, Tavel, Selenia, Caspio, Norsk |
| G9 | 8 W | Small pin bulb | Adjustable tube, light directed at a book or a wall | Sylvanis, Lentia |
| GU10 | 10 W | Pin spot bulb | Adjustable shade, precise beam | Finola, Saffira |
| Integrated LED | 5 W | No bulb to change | Light ring, graphic decor | Anelo II |
The socket decides the bulb, and therefore the finish
With an E27, you keep the choice of temperature and shape of the bulb: it is the most flexible socket in the collection. G9 and GU10 require a smaller pin bulb and suit adjustable tubes. The integrated LED removes the question of the bulb, but fixes the light colour. Choose the socket first, the material next.
Dimmer and adjustable: two different comforts
A dimmer lowers the intensity in the evening; it equips only a minority of models, like Norsk or Anelo II. An adjustable one changes the direction of the beam without touching the intensity: useful to aim at a book or a worktop. The two are rarely combined. The design LED model covers the case of fixed rings. Once your socket is chosen, open the collection to see the gold and black combinations.
How to combine living room ceiling spot layout with a table lamp?
Spots aligned on the ceiling light evenly but leave the corners and the lower part of the room dull. The living room ceiling spot layout should therefore be thought with a low point: a table lamp in a corner, behind the sofa or on a console table, without adding a source to the ceiling.
Avoid two sources stuck in the same place
If a spot falls right above the console table, the lamp placed below adds almost nothing. Move it a metre away: two lights at the same point create an over-bright area and leave the rest of the room dark. Seek contrast, not addition.
Light the corners the spots leave dark
Spots cover the floor and the centre; the corners, the lower walls and the back of the sofa stay flat. Place the lamp where you want to create relief. An adjustable lamp can also aim at a canvas or a raw wall and visually enlarge the room.
How to match the lamp colour to the living room decor?
On a light wall, a black base draws a sharp silhouette and makes the lamp stand out. On a dark or coloured wall, a white, a gold or an amber glass warms the room. Light wood remains the safe bet when the paint is already strong.
| Material | Associated styles | What it brings to the living room | Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ribbed, smoked or amber glass | Modern, retro, vintage | Transparency and reflections, the light passes through the shade | Opalya, Loken, Tavel, Sylvanis |
| Steel and metal | Modern, minimalist, Nordic | Fine lines and sharp silhouettes, in black, white or gold | Ventura, Saffira, Lunlinina, Lentia, Norsk, Anelo II |
| Light wood | Modern, industrial, minimalist | Warmth and small format placed on a shelf | Selenia, Caspio |
| Raw concrete | Industrial, minimalist | Matte grey volume, contrast with a light interior | Novlineta, Haelia |
| Aluminium | Modern, contemporary, retro | Slim and coloured body, adjustable tube | Finola, Sylvanis |
On a light wall, a black base draws the silhouette
On a pale paint, a black base stands out clearly. The black models for living room play this role, and a base in black bedside metal has the same effect on a shelf. Black also supports a velvet sofa or a busy patterned rug, where a light lamp would get lost.
Wood, amber glass and gold to warm a cold room
A grey, blue or green wall calls for a light that warms: amber glass, light wood, gold. The gold and black sets mix both, and a linen shade softens the finish further. In a decor for a modern kitchen open to the living room, keep the same family of tones from one space to the other so the whole holds together.
Are these lamps also suitable for a modern kitchen decor, an office or a bedroom?
The collection is designed for the living room and the bedroom, and also suits the office, the kitchen and the dining room. All references are IP20, so meant for dry rooms: on a shelf, a sideboard or a trolley, never next to a water point.
Office and bedroom: the same adjustable tubes
In an office, a 43 cm adjustable tube in aluminium or steel, like Finola or Lentia, aims at the worktop without taking up surface. In a bedroom, the same tubes serve for reading in bed, and the ten centimetre cubes sit on a shelf. Look at the design lamps for the bedroom, the modern lamps for office and the LED bedside versions.
Kitchen and dining room: on a trolley, away from water
Kitchen and dining room are covered by some of the models, on a sideboard, a trolley or a shelf, away from the sink and the hob. The raw concrete of Haelia or the wood of Caspio hold this role well, and Sylvanis, at eight watts, slips onto a ledge. For other rooms, see the LED office lighting and the crystal table lamps.
How to install and care for a table lamp in a living room?
A table lamp simply plugs into a socket, or into a socket controlled by a switch to turn several lamps on at once. Care is done dry with a soft cloth on metal, steel, concrete and wood, and without aggressive products on glass.
Plug in without adding an electrical line
The cable plugs into an existing socket. Several lamps can share the same supply if the combined wattage stays within the limits of the circuit; with 5 W models or LED bulbs, the demand stays low. A socket controlled by a switch avoids stacking power strips, and an electrician validates the installation. For a clear match, stay with the design white colours if the wiring must stay discreet on a light wall.
Clean according to the material
Soft dry cloth on steel, painted metal and aluminium. On raw concrete and light wood, dust without a wet product, which leaves marks. On glass, a microfibre cloth is enough. The warranty is two years on part of the selection and five years on the other.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service: the journey stays simple from cart to installation. Before confirming, measure your furniture, a ten centimetre cube and a forty-three centimetre tube do not go in the same place. Browse the collection and choose the height that matches your console table.
Frequently asked questions
Living room chandelier or table lamp: how to spread the light?
A chandelier or a large chandelier lights the whole room from the centre, while a table lamp creates a low point near the sofa, an armchair or a console table. The two levels complement each other: the ceiling gives the general light, the placed lamp gives the mood and the use.
Large living room chandelier: how much room to leave for the table lamp?
A large chandelier occupies the central volume and lights widely, but it leaves the lower part of the room flatter. A table lamp on a console table or in a corner warms this low level without adding a source to the ceiling, and without competing with the chandelier.
Living room wall light: what role compared to a table lamp?
The wall light lights a wall, a passage or a painting, at mid-height and in a fixed way. The table lamp does the same work but on a piece of furniture, and moves. In a living room, you often pair one wall light per area with one lamp placed near the sofa.
Bright living room paint colour: how to choose the lamp accordingly?
On a light wall, a black base or a smoked glass draws a sharp silhouette and makes the lamp stand out. On a dark or coloured wall, a white, a gold or an amber glass brings reflected light. Light wood works on both backgrounds.
Can one of these lamps be placed in a wc or a small space?
These models are IP20, so meant for dry rooms. A table lamp can find its place in a small space, on a shelf or a ledge, away from any water point and on a suitable socket. The collection remains primarily intended for the living room and the bedroom.
