A living room chandelier is chosen on two criteria: the room to be lit and the light you want to obtain. Measure the length of the table or the clearance of the living room, choose a ball, round or oval shape, then set the white temperature between 2700 and 4500 K depending on use.
Which chandelier to choose for a living room?
The living room chandelier is chosen according to the room to be lit and the light sought: in this collection, some models diffuse a warm white and others a cool white. In the living room, a ball or round shape suspended in the center structures the room; in the dining room, a wider model lights the table.
Living room chandelier: the two deciding criteria
The uses declared in this selection are clear: living room 100%, dining room 97%, bedroom 67%, kitchen 50%. In other words, almost all models are suitable for the living room, while the kitchen accommodates only one in two. This is the first sorting to do before looking at the style. To broaden the comparison beyond chandeliers, browse all our light fixtures.
Modern living room chandelier: ball, metal and LED
The ball shape represents 53% of the selection, round ones 30%, oval ones 17%. Metal dresses 90% of the models and glass 57%, with gold and black finishes in the majority. LED technology equips 80% of the pieces, often as a complement to a socket. The living room chandeliers of this collection include the Zola glass and copper chandelier, offered in 63 cm and 79 cm, with E27 socket.
What are the trendy light fixtures for the living room in 2026?
In this collection, modern (93%) and contemporary (87%) styles dominate, followed by industrial (30%) and minimalist (20%). Metal dresses 90% of the models, glass 57%, iron 37%, brass 23% and aluminum 17%. In terms of finishes, gold and black come first, ahead of white.
Contemporary living room chandelier
The contemporary is recognized by more graphic lines and the combination of metal and glass. The contemporary pieces play on simple volumes, often with several light points, with a gold or black finish that remains readable in a bright interior. These modern chandelier models match as well with straight furniture as with a more classic living room.
Design living room chandelier
Design comes as much from the silhouette as from the material: original shapes 7%, tubes 17%. A well-chosen modern living room chandelier stands out without crushing the rest of the room, because its design remains readable from a distance. Matte black and smoked glass, present in 13% of the models, give this sober and clean rendering.
Which light fixture for a living room and where to place it?
A living room is lit in layers: a pendant or a chandelier in the center as the centerpiece, then additional points. In this collection, all models are classified IP20 and intended for indoor use. The living room covers 100% of uses, the dining room 97%, the bedroom 67%, the kitchen 50%.
Living room chandelier: the centerpiece in the center
On the ceiling, in the center of the living room or aligned with the table, the chandelier provides general light. A volume that is too small in a large room seems lost, a volume that is too large saturates the space. This is the first trade-off to make, even before choosing between all the chandeliers of different shapes.
Complement with additional points
A wall light, a table lamp or a floor lamp take over in the evening, when the general lighting is too strong. The models classified for the bedroom, i.e. 67% of the selection, also work very well in a reading corner. See the bedroom chandeliers to get an idea of the more contained formats.
| Room | What the collection offers | Dominant material and finish | To check before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Ball and round shapes, central pendant, up to 150 cm wide | Metal, glass, gold or black | Width relative to clearance, ceiling height |
| Dining room | Wide models above the table, contemporary style | Metal, glass, brass | Format proportionate to the table, hanging height |
| Kitchen | More compact formats, LED light fixtures | Metal, aluminum | Socket and white temperature, easy maintenance |
| Bedroom | More modest sizes, warm white light | Metal, glass, brass | Intensity and dimmer possibility |
| Office | Sober models, LED | Aluminum, metal | Neutral or cool white, visual comfort |
How to choose the size of a large living room chandelier?
These chandeliers range from about 40 cm to 150 cm wide or in diameter, with adjustable cable heights up to 150 cm, and up to 260 cm on some models. In the living room, look for a width consistent with the available clearance; in the dining room, a format proportionate to the length of the table.
Cathedral living room chandelier
In a living room with great height, the problem is not the floor space but the distance between the ceiling and the eye. Models whose cable height goes up to 260 cm allow the chandelier to be lowered without shortening it, which keeps the light in the living area. The large industrial iron chandelier are well suited to these volumes, like the lighter pieces in the design chandelier section.
What height above the table?
In general, a dining room chandelier is hung between 70 and 80 cm above the table surface, a little higher if the room has a low ceiling. Ideally, adjust after installation, seated in your place, to check that the chandelier does not cut off the view of the guests opposite. A large living room chandelier of 100 to 120 cm, like the Elra chandelier for a large living room, holds this role above a long table.
Dining room chandelier or kitchen chandelier: which model for each room?
In the dining room, 97% of the models are suitable: they are placed above the table, in ball, round or oval shape, with generous widths. In the kitchen, 50% of the models can be installed, often more compact, in metal or aluminum, with an E27 socket or an LED module.
Dining room chandelier
Oval shapes, 17% of the selection, follow a long table without extending beyond it. E27 and G9 sockets are the most frequent in this collection, and gold and white colors remain the most requested above a table. Dining room chandeliers are chosen first on the length of the tabletop.
Kitchen chandelier
In the kitchen, we look for a light fixture that lights the worktop and is easy to clean. LED chandeliers avoid the bulb to replace, and small aluminum formats fit in a low room. For a kitchen or an entrance, the models on a tight budget remain a coherent starting point.
Metal, glass, brass, black or gold: which materials and colors to favor?
Metal makes up 90% of the models, glass 57%, iron 37%, brass 23% and aluminum 17%. The gold finish dominates, followed by black then white, with a few pieces in smoked glass. Wood does not appear as a main material in this selection.
Wood living room chandelier
If you are looking for wood, know that it is not a structuring material here: it only appears in touches, in fabrics and lampshades. The glass models and metal structures take its place and match very well with oak or walnut furniture.
Black living room chandelier and pieces with pendants
Black concerns 57% of the models, often associated with warm white and smoked glass to soften the contrast. The crystal pieces play a different register: a diamond chandelier, mounted with crystal or glass pendants, reflects light in small bursts rather than in a large volume. The gold finishes warm up a bright room, while black chandeliers make a stronger statement. The Nébula crystal ball chandelier combines brass, crystal, metal, iron and linen, in 45, 60 and 20 cm.
Which socket, which light temperature and is a dimmer needed?
The E27 socket equips 37% of the models, the G4 17%, the E14 10% and the G9 7%; 17% work with an integrated LED. Warm white is in the majority, cool white concerns 27% of the models. A dimmer is possible on 27% of the selection.
Warm white or cool white?
Warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, covers 53% of the models: it is the light that suits the living room and the bedroom, softer in the evening. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, concerns 27% of the selection and gives a sharper rendering, useful near a desk. Neutral white, between 3500 and 4500 K, remains marginal, at 3%. The socket conditions everything: on an E27 model, you choose the bulb temperature, on an integrated LED it is fixed. See the brass chandelier and our light fixture catalog to compare the assemblies.
Dimmer: on which models?
A dimmer is possible on 27% of the models, not on all. It allows you to lower the intensity in the evening and keep an ambient light without turning off. The warranty follows the product: 2 years on 90% of the selection, 5 years on 10%.
| Socket | Share of models | What this implies |
|---|---|---|
| E27 | 37% | Easily replaceable bulb, temperature of your choice |
| G4 | 17% | Small bulbs on models with several light points |
| Integrated LED | 17% | No bulb to change, module replaced in case of failure |
| E14 | 10% | Fine bulb, suitable for glass and crystal models |
| G9 | 7% | Compact bulb with pin socket |
How to install, hang and maintain a living room chandelier?
All models are classified IP20 and intended for indoor use. Cable heights go up to 150 cm, and up to 260 cm on some models, which allows the pendant to be adjusted above a table as in a living room with great height. Regular dusting is enough.
Adjusting the hanging height
Cut the power at the panel before connecting, then adjust the cable length once the light fixture is in place. Adjustment is done with several hands: someone holds, someone checks from the room. Note that the mounting bracket must remain accessible for maintenance and the bulb.
Maintenance of metal and glass
A soft, dry cloth on metal, a glass cleaner on glass, without abrasive products on gold finishes. Smoked glass shows dust less, which matters on a model with pendants. Turn off and let cool before handling.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany each order. For a bright living room without spending your evenings on it, start with the format: measure, compare, then order.
