Start with the use: a work surface needs directed light, a bedside table needs soft light. Industrial desk lamps combine a metal, wood or concrete frame with an E27 socket most often, sometimes GU10, with IP20 protection for dry indoor use. Formats range from a 10 cm cube to models 45 cm tall.
What is an industrial desk lamp?
It is recognisable by its exposed frame: metal, wood or concrete stay visible, with no covering. The family brings together 10 cm cubes, 10 cm diameter tubes and taller models up to 45 cm, all IP20, so for dry indoor use. The E27 socket equips the vast majority of models, the GU10 the compact and adjustable formats.
What sets these lamps apart from other desk lamps
Three things separate them from a classic desk lamp: the raw material, the geometric shape and the light that comes from the bulb you screw in, not from the fixture. Grey concrete and black metal assert their presence, light wood softens a white work surface. To compare the matte finishes, browse our metal selection.
A cubic silhouette or a slim tube?
The 10 cm cube slips in anywhere, on a narrow desk as on a shelf: the Novlineta in grey concrete is the clearest example. The tube plays the same card with a round profile, like the Haelia. If you are looking for a real workspace, the Noxid, black metal rectangular frame 45 cm, takes up more volume but carries the light higher.
Which industrial desk lamp to choose for a modern desk?
No room imposes its style: the collection covers industrial, modern and minimalist, with a palette dominated by black, then grey, beige, white and brown. The deciding factor is not fashion, it is the colour of the wall and the desk. A white desk accepts a slim, colourful silhouette, a raw interior prefers black metal or concrete.
Industrial desk lamps for a modern desk
A fine line and a strong colour are enough to modernise a workspace. The Finola, aluminium tube with adjustable shade, comes in gold, white, black, beige, green, red, taupe and blue: enough to follow a painted wall. Find these profiles in the modern versions for desk.
Industrial desk lamps for a simple desk
A wide-frame model takes up more space than a 10 cm cube, that is the only real trade-off. The Talvo, square shutters and gold reflector, measures 27.3 cm high for a 20.9 cm base: it marks out a corner of the desk. If the top is narrow, stay with a cube and look at the black desk lamps.
Which light for a workspace: LED, E27 or GU10?
Two thirds of the models include an LED, the rest work with a screw-in bulb. The E27 socket dominates far ahead of the GU10, and wattages range from 10 to 40 W. Remember this point: the colour of the light never comes from the lamp, but from the bulb installed. It is the bulb that decides the mood of the room.
Industrial desk lamps for a workspace
To work, aim for a high, directed source. The Noxid lights a wide area from its 45 cm, while an adjustable shade concentrates the beam on the keyboard or the paper. Changing the bulb later is enough to go from a work light to a mood light, without replacing the lamp. See the LED models for the desk.
Which light colour for the living room depending on the bulb?
The E27 socket leaves the choice open: a warm light bulb (around 2700 K) creates an end-of-day mood, a neutral light (around 4000 K) stays readable for working. On the Diabola, adjustable diabolo shade with brass details, the GU10 socket points towards more targeted lighting. These references are industry rules of thumb, not a measurement of our products.
In which rooms should an industrial desk lamp be installed?
Desk, living room and bedroom: all models are suitable. A little more than half can also be installed in a kitchen or dining room. In practice, that means a work surface, a splashback, a bedside table or a reading corner. The format matters more than the room: a 10 cm cube almost disappears, a 45 cm frame stands out.
A fixture for the kitchen and dining room
On a work surface, the lamp replaces under-cabinet lighting when there is none. A small cube in light wood or concrete placed near the splashback is enough, without cluttering. These uses fit well into a modern kitchen decor as in a sober dining room.
Reading corner, hallway and corridor: the small formats
A 10 cm diameter tube, like the Haelia, sits on a ledge, a console or a hallway shelf. For a bedside table, prefer a low, warm light, for example on the side of LED bedside lighting. The living room calls rather for a mood light: a model for the living room in light wood warms without dazzling.
| Room | Use | Format | Socket | Example from the collection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desk | Mood lighting for the work surface | Cube 10 x 10 x 10 cm | E27 | Novlineta, grey concrete |
| Desk | Directed work lamp | H 45 cm, rectangular frame | E27 | Noxid, black metal |
| Desk | Adjustable mood lamp | H 40 cm, adjustable shade | GU10 | Diabola, metal and brass |
| Living room | Mood lighting | Ø 10 cm, H 10 cm | E27 | Caspio, light wood |
| Bedroom | Bedside and reading | Articulated arm, Ø 23 cm | E27 | Woody, wood and metal |
| Kitchen, dining room | Work surface and splashback | L 10 x W 10 x H 10 cm | E27 | Selenia, light wood |
How to wire several lamps on a single electrical supply?
Group the lamps on a switched socket or a dedicated power strip, rather than stacking connectors behind a piece of furniture. All models are IP20: they are intended for dry indoor use, never for a damp room. To add real fixed points on the wall or ceiling, call an electrician.
Several lamps on a switched socket
A socket switched by a wall switch turns on the desk lamp and the bedside lamp at once. A dedicated power strip does the same without touching the installation. On the Woody, articulated wood with scissor arm, the visible cable runs along the wall.
What to avoid behind furniture
No chains of extension leads or stacked plugs in a corner where air does not circulate. Keep a single starting point and distribute from there. If you want to multiply the sources without work, the adjustable lamps with visible cable remain the simplest solution.
Adjustable desk lamp or fixed shade: how to choose?
An adjustable model is used to direct the light where you work: adjustable diabolo shade, adjustable LED shade or scissor articulated arm. A fixed shade is enough when the lamp lights a wide area, a wall or a shelf. A minority of models also accept a dimmer, useful for lowering the intensity at the end of the day.
The adjustable models in the collection
The Talvo combines square shutters, a gold reflector and a dimmer to control the light. The Finola directs its LED shade, the Woody unfolds a scissor arm that brings the source closer to the work surface. These three are chosen according to the task: reading, drawing or screen.
When a fixed shade is enough
If the lamp lights a room and not a sheet of paper, adjustability adds nothing. A concrete or light wood cube placed on a desk diffuses enough for the background of a room. The small black metal bedside lamps cover this role without adjustment.
Metal, wood or concrete: which material for a desk lamp?
Concrete, wood and metal dominate the collection, with a few pieces in brass or aluminium. Grey concrete makes a strong statement, black metal gives structure, light wood warms a white desk, brass and aluminium add a brighter touch. In use, the material mainly changes the mood, very little the function.
The 10 cm cube, the simple lamp par excellence
A 10 cm cube needs only a soft cloth and regular dusting. The Caspio, light wood and filament bulb, gives a warm version, the Selenia an even lighter one. Avoid abrasive products and standing water on concrete or aluminium.
Concrete, wood and metal in the same room
Mixing the three works if one dominates: for example concrete for the desk, wood for the shelf. Then repeat a common shade, grey or brown. For a softer result, look towards Scandinavian inspiration.
| Model | Material | Colour | Style | Socket | Dimensions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Novlineta | Concrete | Grey | Modern, industrial, minimalist | E27 | L 10 x W 10 x H 10 cm |
| Haelia | Concrete | Grey | Modern, industrial, minimalist | E27 | Ø 10 x H 10 cm |
| Talvo | Metal | Black | Industrial | E27 | H 27.3 x W 20.9 x D 19.2 cm |
| Woody | Wood and metal | Beige and white | Scandinavian, industrial | E27 | Ø 23 cm |
| Diabola | Metal and brass | Black and gold | Industrial, modern | GU10 | H 40 cm |
| Noxid | Metal | Black | Contemporary, industrial, minimalist | E27 | H 45 cm |
How to match a desk lamp with an industrial chandelier?
Repeat a common finish, black, gold or white, and keep a single strong point in the room. Under a large industrial chandelier, a discreet lamp in volume is better so as not to saturate the space. Matte black and metal give structure to most of the models in the selection.
Large industrial chandelier on the ceiling, desk lamp on the desk
The chandelier draws the eye up high, the lamp works low and keeps a low profile. A 10 cm cube or tube fills this role without competing. To build a coherent room, start from all the home lighting and then move down to the compact formats.
Harmonising black, gold and white
Two finishes maximum per room are enough. Black and gold go well together, particularly in the gold and black assortments, as do white and light wood. If your room is light, take a look at the white design models, or see the whole lighting catalogue to compare the families.
Frequently asked questions about industrial desk lamps
Which fixture for a toilet or a small damp room?
The models in this selection are IP20, meaning intended for dry indoor use: desk, living room, bedroom, hallway or corridor. In a damp room, a higher protection rating is required, which this selection does not cover. Turn instead to another family in the catalogue.
Should you choose an E27 or GU10 socket for a desk lamp?
The E27 socket equips the vast majority of models and leaves you free to choose the bulb, including its light colour. The GU10 appears on more compact and adjustable formats, designed for targeted lighting. The choice therefore depends on the precision of light you are looking for.
How to care for a black metal or concrete lamp?
A soft cloth is enough to dust metal, concrete and wood. Avoid abrasive products and standing water on concrete or aluminium. Cut the power before changing the bulb, on an E27 model as on a GU10, both IP20 for indoor use.
Which industrial desk lamp to choose for a workspace?
Aim for a high, directed lamp. The Noxid, black metal frame 45 cm, lights the work area widely, while an adjustable LED shade or a scissor articulated arm allows the beam to be adjusted. The 10 cm cubes are more for mood or accent lighting.
Industrial chandelier: how to match it with a desk lamp?
Repeat a common finish, black or gold, and keep a single strong point in the room. A compact black metal desk lamp accompanies a chandelier without competing with it. Brass and gold go well with light wood.
Once the room and the format are chosen, all that remains is to order: compare the design desk lamps according to your work surface, then confirm. Secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and Designix customer service support you from choice to installation. The manufacturer's warranty runs from two to five years depending on the models in the selection.
