Plan three light sources: a general light fixed to the ceiling, a movable accent such as a floor lamp near a seat, and a low light along the windows. The choice then comes down to the protection rating: IP20 in an enclosed conservatory, IP44 under cover, IP54 when rain or spray can reach the fitting.

Which lighting should you choose for a conservatory?

Spread the light across three layers rather than betting everything on one central point: a general source on the ceiling, a movable accent and a grazing light near the windows. A conservatory is lived in by day and by night, two moments that call for different intensity and different colour.

Conservatory lighting: the three layers of light

The general layer holds the room: a ceiling fixture or a pendant light placed in the centre. The accent layer moves, following the armchair or the coffee table, and the Beltorano floor lamp for an open conservatory in woven fibres fills that role, with a dimmer and an E27 socket that leaves the bulb choice open. The third layer runs along the windows: a low lantern, a wall light, a discreet string of lights. These three levels avoid the waiting-room effect of a single ceiling light turned up full.

Aluminium conservatory lighting: what changes

An aluminium frame is glass on almost every surface: light bounces off the uprights and the tiled floor, visually doubling the source. By day, these reflections warm the room and reduce the need for artificial light. In the evening, they send back every glint: a fitting in golden metal or brass reflects and looks larger. So plan for lower, less powerful sources than in a living room with solid walls, and adjusting the intensity remains your best margin for manoeuvre.

Ceiling light, pendant, floor lamp or spotlights for a conservatory?

The ceiling light suits low ceilings and enclosed conservatories, the pendant structures a height and hangs over the table, the floor lamp follows use, spotlights light the walkways and bring out the windows. The protection rating often decides before style does.

Conservatory ceiling light or conservatory pendant light?

The ceiling light wins when the available height rules out hanging an object that would drop into your line of sight. A pendant, on the other hand, fills the volume, which suits tall conservatories and tables. In an enclosed room, the Cordata pendant in woven cords casts an enveloping light, measuring 40 x 30.5 cm, rated IP54. For a low ceiling in a dry area, the Bravara linear pendant in speckled glass measures 80 x 35 cm and sits closer to the ceiling.

Conservatory floor lamp and conservatory wall light

The floor lamp brings a movable light, near a reading armchair or a sofa. The Durante floor lamp in woven rattan keeps a low base and an E27 socket, rated IP20, so for an enclosed conservatory. The Halo Naturel globe floor lamp brings a sculptural presence, in metal and aluminium, with an E14 bulb. The wall light completes the picture: mounted on an upright, it lights the path without taking up floor space.

Choosing your conservatory light by type and protection rating
Light type Reference Socket IP Recommended rooms
Woven pendant Cordata Integrated LED IP54 Conservatory, terrace
Woven fibre lantern Siltorica E27 IP44 Conservatory, terrace, living room
Woven fibre floor lamp Beltorano E27 IP54 Open conservatory, terrace
Rattan floor lamp Durante E27 IP20 Enclosed conservatory
9-head pendant Rayon d'Or E14 IP20 Conservatory, dining room
Linear 9-globe pendant Bravara G9 IP20 Conservatory, kitchen, staircase

Which light colour for a conservatory and a living room?

Warm white, around 2700 to 3500 K, warms the evenings and suits dinners. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, balances relaxation and work. Cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, is reserved for reading and precise tasks such as ironing or DIY.

Living room light colour: which temperature to choose?

A conservatory becomes a living room for part of the year: the light temperature therefore follows the same references as in a lounge. Living room LED lighting is often chosen in warm white for the evening. The models in the selection cover several temperatures, such as the Siltorica lantern in woven fibres, which accepts warm, neutral and cool white depending on the E27 bulb you screw in. The dimmer also changes the mood without changing the bulb: Beltorano, Durante and Bravara all offer it.

LED conservatory light: bulb or integrated module?

An integrated LED module, as on Cordata, saves you choosing a bulb and gives an even light across the whole surface of the diffuser. A free socket, E27, E14 or G9, on the other hand lets you replace the bulb, adjust the temperature and switch to a smart bulb later. Neither solution is better: the module simplifies, the socket gives you room.

How do you hang a conservatory chandelier when the ceiling is high?

Fix the hanging point in line with the table or at the centre of the living area, then check that the bottom of the fitting leaves comfortable clearance: nobody should brush against it when standing up, and it should not block the view of your guests. Multiple heads fill the height better than one large single volume.

Large chandelier for a high ceiling: which criteria?

Under a great height, a model with adjustable rods or cables adapts without any DIY. The Rayon d'Or nine-head pendant comes in 52, 65 and 72 cm and combines brass, iron and aluminium in a golden and white finish. For a more industrial feel, the Bravara pendant lines up nine speckled glass globes on a bar: the light falls in a sheet and fills the volume without a visual block.

Conservatory pendant light: the right size for the room?

Look at the width of the table or the area to be lit, then keep the fitting narrower than the table so the eye does not bump into the object as you sit down. A wide diameter lights better but takes up the view; a fine line lights less but lets the windows breathe. Dining room pendants follow the same logic when the conservatory extends the living room.

Which IP protection rating for an open conservatory?

An enclosed conservatory is fine with an IP20, reserved for dry areas. As soon as the room opens up or the fitting receives splashes, move up to IP44. An open conservatory, a terrace or exposure to spray call for an IP54. Each reference states its level.

How do you light an outdoor terrace?

Light in zones: a high point for the whole area, lanterns or a floor lamp near the seats, a lower light for walkways. An outdoor fitting exposed to rain must be rated IP44 minimum, and IP54 is required against spray or repeated watering. For the pool area, pool lights have their own constraints, to be handled separately from the covered terrace.

IP20, IP44, IP54: where should each model go?

The rating describes resistance to water and dust, not the quality of the light. An IP20 placed under a water splash will deteriorate, an IP54 installed in a dry room does no harm. Here is the actual ranking of the selection.

Which protection rating for which conservatory zone
Rating Where to install it Relevant references
IP20 Enclosed conservatory, dry area, away from splashes Durante, Halo Naturel, Rayon d'Or, Bravara
IP44 Semi-open conservatory, under cover, splashes possible Siltorica
IP54 Open conservatory, terrace, rain and spray Cordata, Beltorano

Original lights: which styles and materials for a conservatory?

Woven wood, rattan, brass and speckled glass take the room beyond the standard white fitting. Boho, industrial, contemporary and jungle styles sit well with plants and large glazed surfaces. Gold and taupe warm up metal, white and beige keep the room bright.

Which shape to choose: globe, round, tube or drop?

The shape governs the way the light comes down. A globe diffuses widely and suits the centre of a room. A tube or a line stretches the light over a table or a worktop. A drop concentrates the flow downwards, useful over a reading corner. Original lights play with these volumes, from exceptional pieces to more understated models.

Designer conservatory lights: how do you match them to the adjoining room?

If the conservatory opens onto the kitchen, carry over the material of the neighbouring room's light rather than its exact model: modern kitchen decor ideas often work in wood and black metal, easy to extend into a conservatory. A discreet lantern is enough in toilet lights and passageways, with a warm light. For a softer continuity, designer living room lights offer low shapes that cross both spaces.

How do you care for a woven wood or metal light?

Dust dry with a soft cloth or a brush, without any wetting product. Wipe the metal and aluminium with a slightly damp cloth, then dry straight away. The selection is guaranteed for two years, and the home lights in woven wood need only this simple gesture.

Can you strip a wooden light with an old family recipe?

No: stripping is for furniture, not lighting. On a wooden or woven fibre light, you stick to dry dusting. A stripper, excess moisture or an abrasive product loosens the weave and dulls the finish. The two-year guarantee covers an unmodified product, so it is better to refrain.

What damages an IP44 or IP54 light installed outdoors

The rating protects against splashes and dust, not against everything. A pinched seal when reassembling, a taut cable pulling on the gland, a bulb too powerful for the fitting, or cleaning with a direct jet will damage a model that is nevertheless certified IP54. Also check that water does not pool in a cup or on a horizontal diffuser, because that is where ageing begins.

Frequently asked questions about conservatory lights

How do you light an outdoor terrace?

Light in zones: a high point for the whole area, lanterns or a floor lamp near the seats, and a lower light for walkways. Choose a protection rating suited to the exposure, IP44 or IP54 in the selection, and a warm light for the evenings. Outdoor lights around the pool follow separate rules.

Toilet lights and bathroom lights: what should you install?

In the toilet, a small ceiling light or a wall light is enough, placed above eye level rather than in your line of sight. A warm light suits a small room, with a protection rating consistent with the ambient humidity. Designer bathroom lighting gives useful references for wet rooms.

What is the average price of a lamp?

The budget depends mainly on the material, the number of light points and the finishing work: some references remain affordable, others belong to the exceptional piece category. The collection grid shows each model's current price, updated with the supplier. Browse the Designix light selection to compare styles.

Lighting store in Lyon or lighting clearance in Lyon: how do you buy?

The selection can be viewed online, sorted by room and by light type, from lighting clearance in Lyon to new arrivals. From Lyon and anywhere in France, ordering comes with secure payment, tracked delivery and possible returns. The Designix customer service remains reachable.

Can a living room chandelier light a conservatory?

Yes, on two conditions: check the volume of the room, since a tall conservatory calls for multiple heads, and the protection rating, with an IP20 remaining reserved for dry, enclosed spaces. A multi-globe pendant suits both rooms. Designer living room lights or floor lamps complete the set.

Choose well, then order with confidence

Start from the material and the light before the shape: woven wood for a boho feel, metal and brass for a contemporary finish, speckled glass for an industrial effect. Then check the socket, the protection rating and the bulb temperature. A wall light is enough in a corridor, a multi-head pendant structures a tall conservatory, and a movable floor lamp saves you drilling into the aluminium frame.

For other rooms, modern living room lights, black wooden lights or garage lights follow the same IP and temperature references.

Order with secure payment, tracked delivery, possible returns and reachable Designix customer service. Add your conservatory lights to the basket, then check the protection rating before confirming.
