Start by checking the socket: E27 on most models in this selection, E14 on the two Funsui B, GU10 on the Nora. Then check the height, from 16.5 to 35 cm for the short models, up to 132.7 cm for the Funsui B. All are IP20, so designed for a dry room.
Which black wood chandelier for kitchen should you choose?
The deciding factor is depth, not diameter: the Quinora and Trilux models in steel and wood are 14 to 15 cm deep and at most 26 cm high, which keeps them discreet above a worktop. For a high ceiling or an island, the Funsui B drop to 97.7 or 132.7 cm.
Modern kitchen chandelier: the criteria that matter before buying
Four points are enough to decide. First the socket, because it determines the bulb: E27 on most, E14 on the two Funsui B, GU10 on the Nora. Then the wattage, recorded at 15 W on the E27 models and 9 W on the Funsui. The format, short or long drop, depending on your ceiling height. And the IP rating, IP20 here across the whole selection. In terms of style, modern dominates, complemented by minimalist, nordic, Japanese or industrial depending on the model. To widen the comparison, browse all our lighting and the design chandeliers for kitchen.
Kitchen pendant or kitchen ceiling light: which format for which kitchen?
In a closed kitchen with a low ceiling, a short model like the Trilux or the Marius and its curved arms leaves the way clear. In an open kitchen with an island, a long drop concentrates light on the worktop. The wood chandeliers for kitchen cover both cases, from the compact format to the pendant that hangs low.
| Model | Format | Socket | Wattage | Dimmer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Quinora | W 61 x D 15 x H max 26 cm | E27 | 15 W | No |
| Trilux | W 56 x D 14 x H max 26 cm | E27 | 15 W | No |
| Marius | W 58 x D 75 x H max 16.5 cm | E27 | 15 W | No |
| Ignis | Ø 35 x H max 35 cm | E27 | 15 W | No |
| Funsui B, tube and round | W 73.7 x H 132.7 or 97.7 cm | E14 | 9 W | Yes |
| Nora | Diameter 80 cm | GU10 | Not specified | No |
Each model is listed as compatible with the kitchen, living room and dining room; the Funsui B and the Nora go as far as the staircase. The Quinora chandelier in steel and wood remains the simplest to install above a worktop.
What light does a black chandelier give in a kitchen?
These chandeliers spread light from several points, to be directed towards the worktop or the table. The recorded wattage is 15 W on most models and 9 W on the Funsui. The Nora is the only one to show a warm white temperature, between 2700 and 3500 K. All are IP20, intended for a dry room.
E27 or E14 LED bulb: what the socket changes
An E27 socket takes standard screw-in bulbs, easy to replace; this is the case for the Quinora, Trilux, Marius and Ignis. An E14 socket is smaller, and the two Funsui B also accept a dimmer to lower the intensity at the end of a meal. The Nora, for its part, uses GU10, pin-based spots that focus the light. In terms of technology, a large part of the selection is available in LED; the LED models designed for the kitchen gather these versions.
IP20: what this rating means in a kitchen
IP20 means the light is protected against solid objects larger than a finger, but not against water splashes. Around a sink or a hob, it is distance that protects: keep the light well away from splash zones. For a damp room, a different IP rating is required. Cleaning is therefore done dry, never with a jet of water.
At what height should you install a kitchen chandelier above a table or worktop?
Above a table, you need to keep the line of sight clear: the short models in the collection, from 16.5 to 26 cm high, suit standard ceilings. For a high ceiling, the two Funsui B drop to 97.7 or 132.7 cm and fill the volume above an island.
Eating at a wooden table without a tablecloth: what height should you use?
A bare wooden table without a light tablecloth does not reflect light upwards. A chandelier placed too close to the top then creates a hard shadow in the centre and mainly lights the plates. Better to choose a light point that drops clearly, like the Funsui B at 97.7 or 132.7 cm, or a wide model that spreads light over the whole surface, like the Nora with its radiating branches.
Large chandelier for high ceiling: which models in the collection?
Only two models drop far enough to furnish a tall volume: the Funsui B in tube version at 132.7 cm and its round version at 97.7 cm. The others stop at 35 cm high and are intended for a standard ceiling. For a stairwell, these two Funsui B and the Nora are the only ones listed as compatible.
How do you match a black wood chandelier with a modern kitchen decoration?
Black is the common colour of all the models; many also exist in white, a few in brown, blue or gold. In a modern kitchen, black goes with wood, brings out steel and glass, and works just as well on a light worktop as on dark cabinet fronts.
Modern kitchen decor: which materials go with black?
Wood dominates the selection, often combined with steel, metal, glass or brass. On white or light wood fronts, a black chandelier creates a visual anchor above the table. On dark fronts, it blends into the whole and it is the material that stands out: the smoked glass of the Ignis and its three globes, or the brass of the Nora. To take the match further, look at the black wood and metal chandeliers and how to combine gold with black.
Black and white chandeliers: playing with contrast
Most models exist in black and white, which allows two moods in the same room: black to make a statement, white to lighten. A black and white contrast works well with a plain splashback. If you are looking for brightness instead, the Scandinavian white version and the white and black duo give the same design in another tone.
Living room chandeliers: are these models also suitable?
Yes: each model in the collection is listed as compatible with the living room and the dining room, as well as the kitchen. Most are also suitable for the bedroom and the hallway, with the Funsui B and the Nora going as far as the staircase. The same black chandelier can therefore move from room to room as you wish.
A black wood chandelier above a dining table
Above a dining table, a wide model lights without dazzling the guests. The Nora and its 80 cm diameter cover a large table, the Marius and its 75 cm depth suit a narrower table. The wood chandeliers for dining room gather these formats, as do the modern models for dining room.
Bedroom and hallway: where black works
Black goes anywhere, provided you adapt the intensity: a low-wattage bulb in a bedroom, a multi-point model in a hallway to light a wide area. The wood chandeliers for bedroom and the models designed to light a hallway cover both uses, and the same black range for the living room extends the set into the main room.
How do you care for a black wood chandelier?
Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth is enough: the models in the collection are delivered in their final colour, most often black, and there is no raw finish to redo. Avoid standing water on the wood, which marks it, and abrasive products that dull the surface.
Removing varnish from a wooden piece of furniture: why it does not apply to a chandelier
Stripping is for a raw piece of furniture whose finish you want to change. A chandelier in this selection is already finished, stained and protected: scraping the surface would damage the colour without achieving anything. On the steel, metal or brass parts, a soft cloth is also enough.
Grandmother's recipe for stripping furniture: avoid on a light fitting
These preparations, often based on solvent or abrasive, attack an industrial finish and leave uneven marks. On a light fitting, they present a second risk: spraying liquid onto an electrical device. The safe reflex remains dry dusting, with the power off if you are working near the sockets.
Which socket should you choose: E27, E14 or GU10?
The socket depends on the model: E27 on most of the selection, E14 on the two Funsui B and GU10 on the Nora. The recorded wattages are 15 W for the E27 models and 9 W for the Funsui. The two Funsui accept a dimmer, handy for lowering the light at the end of a meal.
E27, E14 or GU10: which socket for which room?
An E27 offers the most freedom: you choose the bulb, its temperature and its intensity, and you replace it easily. An E14 suits small volumes and narrow diffusers. A GU10, pin-based, focuses the light into a beam: the Nora uses it for its warm white rendering, between 2700 and 3500 K.
Dimmer: on which models in the collection?
Two models accept a dimmer: the Funsui B. This is useful above a table, where you go from a clear light for the meal to a softer mood afterwards. The other models are controlled by the switch, with the E27 bulb of your choice.
| Socket | Recorded wattage | Models | Dimmer | What this means |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E27 | 15 W | Quinora, Trilux, Marius, Ignis | No | Standard screw-in bulb, easy replacement |
| E14 | 9 W | Funsui B tube and round | Yes | Small socket, adjustable intensity |
| GU10 | Not specified | Nora | No | Pin-based spots, warm white 2700 to 3500 K |
How many light points and which format for a kitchen?
The number of points is already fixed by the model: three globes for the Ignis, several E27 bulbs for the Quinora, Trilux and Marius, cylindrical diffusers for the Funsui B and branches for the Nora. It therefore cannot be changed when ordering. What remains is to match this format to your room.
In a small kitchen, a short model 26 cm high is enough and does not get in the way. In a large open kitchen or above an island, a wide model spreads light better over the worktop. To compare the results, the design formats, the black and design colours and a vintage spirit show other designs in the same dark register. If you are hesitating between two pieces, the entire lighting catalogue lets you check what extends the kitchen elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
Light fitting for a toilet: can these black chandeliers be installed there?
All models in the collection are IP20, a rating intended for dry rooms. They are therefore intended for the kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom or hallway. For a damp room, a light fitting with a suitable IP rating is preferable.
Kitchen ceiling light or kitchen pendant: what difference for the light?
A ceiling light is fixed near the ceiling and lights the whole room; a pendant drops towards the worktop or the table and concentrates light where you cook. In the collection, the Funsui B drop to 97.7 or 132.7 cm, the other models stay at a maximum height of 35 cm.
Large chandelier for high ceiling: which model should you choose?
For a high ceiling, the two Funsui B are the only models in the collection to drop far: 97.7 cm for the round version, 132.7 cm for the tube version. The others stop at 35 cm high and are intended for a standard ceiling.
Eating at a wooden table without a tablecloth: what light should you put above?
A bare wooden table reflects less light than a light tablecloth. A multi-point chandelier, like the Nora and its warm white between 2700 and 3500 K, or the Ignis and its three globes, lights the table without creating a hard shadow on the plates.
Living room chandeliers: are these models suitable?
Yes: each model in the collection is listed as compatible with the living room and the dining room, as well as the kitchen. Most are also suitable for the bedroom and the hallway. The same black chandelier can therefore follow your wishes from one room to another.
Ordering from Designix
Secure payment, tracked delivery and returns: you order with no risk, and the Designix customer service answers before and after the purchase. The warranty ranges from five years on part of the selection to two years on the rest, depending on the model.
One last reference point before confirming: measure the ceiling height and the depth available above your worktop. If you are hesitating between a short format and a long drop, compare the Funsui B in tube version and the Quinora: these are two uses, not two sizes of the same object. Then add the chosen model to the basket, the current price is shown on the product page.
