200 cm floor lamp: the right height, room by room

Measure from the floor to the top of the shade: 200 cm places the light source above eye level when seated, without overwhelming the room. What is the standard height of a floor lamp?

A floor lamp is measured from the floor to the top of the shade, never to the tip of the bulb. The most common formats stop around 180 cm. A 200 cm floor lamp belongs to the large models, the ones that light above the field of vision of a seated person.

180 cm floor lamp: what does this format correspond to?

At 180 cm, the halo falls close to the seat: comfortable for reading, more limited for lighting a whole room. The choice therefore depends less on style than on the line of sight, and a standing floor lamp is first recognised by its total height, then by its silhouette.

The large format therefore plays out mainly as a slim column.
