Choosing a chandelier: the guide to sizes and styles

A chandelier is the jewel of a room, but choosing the right size and style can be intimidating. Too small, and it looks ridiculous. Too large, and it overwhelms the space. This guide provides the exact formulas to ensure you never go wrong.
The formula for calculating the right diameter
Add the length and width of the room in meters, then multiply by 10: you get the ideal diameter in centimeters. For a 4x5 m room = 90 cm in diameter. It is a reliable rule that works in 90% of cases.
Above a table, the chandelier should be between one-third and two-thirds the width of the table. For a 120 cm table = a 40 to 80 cm chandelier.
Hanging height
Above a table: 75-85 cm between the bottom of the chandelier and the surface of the table. In open space (living room, hallway): the bottom of the chandelier should never hang lower than 210 cm from the floor. For cathedral ceilings, do not hang the chandelier more than 3 meters from the floor, otherwise it loses all impact.

A chandelier in every room?
A chandelier is not mandatory everywhere. It shines in the living room, dining room, entryway, and bedroom. In the kitchen and bathroom, compact pendants are more suitable.

How to clean a high-hanging chandelier?
