Allow 160 cm of height for reading while seated next to a sofa, and an arc of 240 to 250 cm to light over the seat. The rattan floor lamp combines a metal frame with a natural fibre shade: the light becomes warm and filtered, without glare. All references in the collection use an E27 socket.

What is a raffia floor lamp and what light does it give?
Raffia is a fibre drawn from the young leaves of the Raphia palm, supple and even, stretched over a metal frame. The weave filters the output: the light comes out warm and diffuse, without glare, and draws patterns on the wall. The E27 socket, common to all references, takes a standard bulb within the maximum wattage stated under each model.
Floor lamp, lamp or raffia light fixture: what are the differences?
A raffia floor lamp is a light fixture on a stand, 160 to 250 cm tall. A raffia lamp may be just a table or bedside model, placed on a piece of furniture. The family of raffia light fixtures brings both together, along with pendants and wall lights.
Raffia chandelier, raffia ceiling light: why is raffia not reserved for the floor?
The same fibre is stretched over a pendant or a ceiling: raffia is not tied to a stand. What changes is the direction of the light. A raffia fixture mounted high lights the room from above, a floor lamp lights at seat height. In the collection, styles range from bohemian to contemporary, with modern lines and a jungle variant.
Which rattan floor lamp should you choose for a living room?
The choice comes down to the free space in front of the sofa. A straight 160 cm model slips in next to the seat and is used for reading. A 240 cm arc passes over the sofa or coffee table, with no stand in the walkway. The 50 cm round shade of the Almora floor lamp with its double stem spreads wider than the 40 × 20 cm cylinder.
Original living room floor lamp: arc, straight or articulated arm?
The 240 cm Aritorilo arc needs 230 cm of depth but frees the floor. The articulated arm of Morrano, articulated arm and round shade, reaches 250 cm and turns towards the armchair. The straight model remains the simplest in a small living room. The selection for lighting a living room sorts models by footprint, and the all-black living room version blends into a dark interior.
Ball floor lamp or cylindrical shade: which look for the living room?
The round shape, like the Ø 50 cm of Almora, dresses a corner and lights widely. The cylinder of Aile, 40 cm beige shade focuses the light up and down, more discreet behind a sofa. For a round silhouette, see the ball floor lamps. For a clean line, look at the modern lines.
| Model | Shape | Material | Dimensions | Rooms | Max wattage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Almora | Round shade Ø 50 cm, double stem | Metal | H 160 cm | Living room, office, bedroom | 40 W |
| Morrano | Articulated arm, round shade | Metal | H 250 cm, depth 100 cm | Living room, office, bedroom | 40 W |
| Aritorilo | Arc, cylindrical shade | Metal | H 240 cm, depth 230 cm | Living room | 40 W |
| Raffio | Straight, shade Ø 40 × 20 cm | Metal, fabric, steel, stainless steel | Adjustable H 115 to 250 cm, base Ø 35 cm, cable 220 cm | Living room, bedroom, office | 60 W max |
| Aile | Arc, shade Ø 40 × 20 cm | Metal | Base Ø 35 cm, cable 200 cm | Living room, office, bedroom | 40 W max |
| Raffia green and brown | Straight, shade Ø 30 cm | Steel | H 160 cm | Living room | not stated |
What height of floor lamp should you plan for each room?
For reading while seated, the shade should sit above eye level, generally around 110 to 120 cm from the floor once you are seated: 160 cm models work well next to an armchair. Arcs of 240 to 250 cm pass over a sofa. An adjustable model from 115 to 250 cm suits both and is set after installation.
Floor lamp: which base and how much floor space?
Allow for the diameter of the base, not the shade: 35 cm for Raffio and for Aile. You therefore need 35 cm of free floor, and it is better to tuck the base near a wall or behind the sofa. The selection of floor lamps can be browsed by footprint. The metal frames keep a fine line in a small living room.
Floor lamp: how do you run the cable to the socket?
The cable measures 200 cm on Aile and 220 cm on Raffio: measure the distance to the socket before settling on the spot. A cable stretched across the walkway can be replaced by an extension lead run along the skirting board. Black models blend in, as seen in the selection of black floor lamps.
| Use | Height | Shade shape | Model to look at | Point to check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reading on the sofa | 160 cm | Round Ø 50 cm | Almora | E27 socket, 40 W |
| Lighting over a sofa | 240 to 250 cm, arc | Cylindrical or round | Aritorilo, Aile | 230 cm depth for the arc |
| Office corner | Adjustable from 115 to 250 cm | Ø 40 × 20 cm | Raffio | 220 cm cable |
| Bedroom, ambience | 160 cm | Ø 30 to 50 cm | Raffia green and brown, Almora | IP20, soft bulb |
| Small living room or dry toilet | 160 cm | Ø 30 cm | Raffia green and brown | narrow base, IP20 |
How do you install a raffia floor lamp in a bedroom?
In a bedroom, the floor lamp provides ambience or reading light in bed. A 160 cm model with a 30 to 50 cm shade fits next to the headboard, provided the switch stays within reach once you are lying down. The green and brown model, in steel, Ø 30 cm and 160 cm tall, fits into a narrow space. For the bulb, stay on a low wattage, within the stated 40 W limit.
To compare formats, the selection of bedroom floor lamps sorts models by use. The adult bedroom page details placements near the bed.
Can you place a raffia floor lamp in a toilet or a small room?
Yes, in a dry toilet and a small room, a raffia floor lamp brings soft light without any work. The collection's IP20 rating protects against solid objects, not against moisture: avoid the bathroom and very damp rooms. A 30 cm shade and a narrow base limit the footprint, as on the green and brown model.
In a toilet, check that the base does not block the door and that the cable stays out of the walkway. The affordable models are enough for this type of room. If the floor is already busy, the design selection contains more compact silhouettes.
Halogen or LED floor lamp: which bulb should go in a raffia shade?
All references use an E27 socket, with a maximum wattage of 40 W or 60 W depending on the model, 60 W max on Raffio and its adjustable height. An E27 LED heats less than a halogen, which suits natural fibres better. Never exceed the wattage marked on the fixture: the label is near the socket.
A halogen floor lamp is still possible if the bulb respects that limit, but the heat given off ages the shade faster. The selection of LED floor lamps is a guide for choosing an identical base. The collection's references are not advertised as dimmable: the dimmable floor lamps page covers models designed for that.
Raffia, driftwood or rattan floor lamp: which natural material should you choose?
Raffia is a stretched, even palm fibre. Driftwood gives a more irregular volume, rattan or wicker a more open weave that lets more light through. In the collection, the fibre is combined with metal frames, sometimes steel or stainless steel, in black, beige, green, brown and yellow.
A wooden floor lamp brings a raw, warm finish, to compare with the selection of wooden floor lamps. A wooden floor lamp suits a room already full of materials. Raffia, for its part, stays visually finer: it is the material that pairs best with contemporary lines.
How do you care for and install a raffia floor lamp?
A dry cloth or a vacuum on a gentle setting is enough: no water or products, the fibre absorbs and warps. The base sits near a wall, the 2 m to 2.20 m cable leaves some slack to the socket. On Raffio, the height is set from 115 to 250 cm before screwing in the bulb.
How do you clean a raffia shade?
Dust from top to bottom, without pressing, so as not to shift the weave. A stain is treated dry, without rubbing. Do not remove the shade stretched over its frame to wash it: refitting misaligns the weave.
Base, cable, adjustable height: what to check on delivery
Check the base (Ø 35 cm on Raffio and Aile), the cable length and the height lock if the model is adjustable. The warranty is two years on the collection's references. Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany every order.
What is raffia fruit?
Raffia is a fibre drawn from the young leaves of a palm, the Raphia. These leaves yield supple, even strips that are woven or stretched over a frame. In our floor lamps, this fibre serves as a shade: it filters the light and makes it warmer.
Which floor lamp should you put in a living room?
A 160 cm floor lamp near the sofa is enough for reading, while a 240 to 250 cm arc lights over the seat without taking up the floor in front. Choose the round shade for wide light, the cylindrical one for more targeted lighting.
Halogen floor lamp: can you fit one to a raffia floor lamp?
The collection's models use an E27 socket and state a maximum wattage of 40 W or 60 W. A halogen bulb heats strongly, which suits a natural fibre shade poorly: an E27 LED with the same base heats less and stays within the stated limit.
Ball floor lamp or cylindrical shade: which should you choose?
The round shade, like the Ø 50 cm in the collection, spreads light all around and suits a living room ambience. The Ø 40 × 20 cm cylinder focuses the light up and down: more discreet, it lights a seat or a worktop better.
Driftwood floor lamp or raffia floor lamp: which ambience?
Driftwood brings an irregular volume and a raw finish, raffia an even fibre stretched over a metal frame. Both materials are natural. Raffia stays visually finer, which helps in a small living room or behind a sofa.
To compare heights, shade diameters and shapes, browse the floor lamp collection and look for the raffia models. If the sofa occupies the centre of the living room, start with the 240 cm arc; if you mostly read while seated, a straight 160 cm model is enough.
