Around a pool, the choice first comes down to water exposure, then to supply voltage and colour. A strip embedded in the wall has nothing to do with a decorative ribbon light placed under a shelter: this initial sorting decides everything else.

Which LED strip to choose for a pool?

Three situations, three types of equipment. In the water, you need a strip rated for immersion. On the coping and the deck, a strip resistant to splashes is enough. Under a shelter, an indoor ribbon light does a better job than an outdoor strip. Then check the voltage and the colour.

Waterproof LED strip for pools

Along the coping, the deck or under a pergola, the strip receives splashes and spray without being submerged. A splash-proof model handles this role, provided it is fixed to a clean, dry surface, never in a hollow where water pools after swimming. Our waterproof LED strips cover this poolside use. The weak point is almost never the strip itself, but the connector: that is what must be kept away from splashes.

IP68 LED strip for pools

The IP68 rating corresponds to equipment designed to be submerged. It becomes necessary as soon as the strip goes below the waterline, in a wall, a step or a submerged bench. Elsewhere, it adds nothing: under a pergola or in a pool house, splash protection, or even a simple indoor light, is enough. Also look at our range of light strips if you are primarily looking for a lighting effect rather than a submerged use.

Which LED strip for each pool area
Area Water exposure Protection to prioritise Point of vigilance
In the pool (wall, steps) Permanent immersion Strip rated IP68 Connector and power supply kept out of the water
Coping and deck Splashes and spray Splash-proof strip (IP65) Clean surface, away from areas where water pools
Pergola, privacy screen, access path Rain and humidity Waterproof strip or solar strip Wind-resistant fixing
Pool house, conservatory, sheltered room None Indoor ribbon light (IP20) Never expose to splashes

12V or 24V pool LED strip: which power supply to plan for?

12V and 24V are low voltages: the strip runs through a transformer installed out of the water, in the technical room or a sheltered box. 12V suits short lengths, 24V is better for long runs, where the light must remain even all the way to the end.

12V pool LED strip: for which pools?

12V remains the common format for a modest-sized pool, a step, a submerged bench or a short run around the deck. The drop in brightness at the end of the line is barely visible over a few metres. If you are hesitating between several power supplies, 24V LED strips and low-voltage models can be compared directly on this length criterion.

24V strip and transformer: where to house the box?

The transformer goes in the technical room, a garden box or a sheltered volume, never in the pool or the deck. It must remain accessible for maintenance and away from splashes. Also check the total strip length stated for the power supply: beyond that, add a second power supply rather than stretching the line. Conversely, 220V strips connect directly to the mains, with no separate box, which simplifies routing when a technical room is nearby.

Do you need to drain the pool to change a bulb?

Not systematically. A spotlight or a strip fixed in the wall can often be replaced from the deck or the coping, without draining, provided the power is switched off and the housing is accessible. Draining is only necessary if the support or wiring is submerged and otherwise inaccessible.

Replacing a strip or spotlight without draining

Many pool spotlights come out from the front: you unscrew the ring from the deck, pull out the unit, replace it, and close it up. The procedure always starts by cutting the power at the panel, and is done with no voltage until fully reassembled. If the strip is glued to the wall and the cable runs under the liner, access becomes more delicate and the decision rests with the pool professional.

LED strip for above-ground pools: the most accessible installation

On an above-ground pool, the strip is fixed to the structure or the deck, in the open air, which makes the job simple the following year. Clean the surface, let it dry, then glue or screw depending on the support. LED strips for above-ground pools are therefore the least restrictive case, with no immersion and no draining.

How to install an LED strip around a pool?

Prepare a clean, dry surface, fix the strip or its profile out of the water, run the cable to the technical room, then connect after cutting the power. Connections and the box stay sheltered from splashes. The strip is glued or screwed depending on the support.

Fixing the strip on the coping and in the deck

On the coping, an aluminium profile protects the strip from foot traffic and diffuses light better towards the ground. In the deck, a discreet recess is preferred, keeping the strip above the stagnation zone. The fixing must resist wind if the run is exposed, and the surface must be dusted before gluing: that is where long-term durability is decided.

Protecting the power supply and connections

All connectors, splices and branches go into a waterproof box, never left bare on the tiles. The cable runs down to the technical room through a conduit, with a low loop that prevents water from rising by capillary action. Before any handling, cut the power and check that it cannot be switched back on by someone else.

RGB pool LED strip: which colours for the mood?

An RGB strip mixes three channels and covers a wide palette, enough to change the mood from one evening to the next. RGBW models add a dedicated white, more readable for actually lighting around the pool. Control is by remote or app depending on the model chosen.

Going from white to colours without glare

White mixed from the three channels often leans blue and tires the eyes in prolonged lighting. A separate white channel solves this, as on RGBW models. To mark out a deck or a step, a neutral white around 3000 K remains more readable than a colour: see the 3000K strips. For evening relaxation, a warm tone around 2700 K recalls indoor lighting, as on the 2700K strips.

Bright colour for a living room: extending the mood indoors

The pool palette extends indoors without a break: warm tones in the evening in the living room, soft white for moving around. A discreet strip under a piece of furniture, a shelf or a worktop is enough to recall the terrace light. It is also a good starting point for modern kitchen decor, where a line of light highlights the worktop without lighting it head-on.

Solar LED strip for pools: in which cases?

Solar suits marking out the deck, the access path or a pergola, where running a cable would be complicated. It does not replace submerged lighting in the pool, which needs a dedicated power supply. Battery life depends on sunlight and the model's battery.

Marking out the deck and the access path

A solar strip lights a walkway, a step or a low wall without trenching or conduit. As the battery recharges during the day, you accept moderate intensity and variable duration depending on the season. It is supplementary and safety lighting, not a main source: it guides the foot, it does not light an entire terrace.

What solar cannot do in the pool

Below the waterline, a solar panel has no access to light and no room for its battery. Immersion requires a dedicated power supply and suitable protection, with no compromise. Solar therefore keeps to its ground: the surroundings, the garden, areas without an electrical network.

Which ceiling lights and ribbon pendants for sheltered spaces around the pool?

For a conservatory, a pool house or a room open to the terrace, ribbon lights give a broad light without a glaring point. The Rubano zigzag ribbon ceiling light illuminates through-rooms, the Rubana spiral ribbon pendant plays with volumes, the Vorada ceiling lights diffuse a warm white. All are intended for sheltered interiors.

Ribbon lights from the collection by room and format
Light Format Material and colour Socket Power Recommended rooms
Rubano ceiling light H 120 mm, L 410 mm, W 510 mm Metal, white LED 45 W Kitchen, dining room, hallway, living room, bedroom

Vorada 60 cm ceiling light H 17 cm, L 60 cm White LED 29 W Living rooms and sheltered spaces
Vorada ceiling light H 17 cm White LED 25 W Hallway, corridor, small living room
Moln pendant small model Small format White, white wrapped ribbon E27 15 W Dining room, kitchen, hallway
Moln 3-light pendant very large model Very large format, 3 lights White, white wrapped ribbon Not specified 15 W Large volume, staircase, living room

LED ceiling light and powerful LED ceiling light: lighting a large room

A large volume is better handled by a broad luminous surface than by a single point. The Rubano zigzag ribbon ceiling light, in white metal, measures 510 mm long for 45 W: mounted on the ceiling, it spreads light across an entire through-room, kitchen, dining room or living room. For a hallway or corridor, the Vorada 60 cm ceiling light covers a more modest run at 29 W, and the Vorada ceiling light in warm white suits small living rooms at 25 W.

Ribbon pendant: Rubana and Moln above a table or a staircase

Above a table or in a stairwell, the pendant brings light down where it is needed. The Rubana spiral pendant, in black aluminium with a 60 cm diameter, adjusts from 45.7 to 325.7 cm in height and runs on LED 31 W: practical for following a high ceiling. The Moln pendant small model, with an E27 socket, suits a dining room, while the Moln 3-light version fills a large volume or a staircase. All these models are IP20: they stay in sheltered interiors, away from splashes.

How to match the rooms of the house to the pool mood?

Extend the pool mood by keeping the same light family from one space to the next: a warm white in the evening, colours reserved for moments of relaxation. A living room chandelier or a pendant above the table take on the role of the strip, in a fixed and sheltered version.

Living room chandelier, LED chandelier and LED ceiling light: living rooms open to the terrace

In a house open to the pool, two levels are combined: a pendant above the table for conviviality, a ceiling light to bathe the rest of the room. A living room chandelier or a powerful LED ceiling light fulfils this second function without creating a shadow zone. The warm white of the Vorada ceiling lights, between 2700 and 3500 K, naturally connects the living room to the terrace light.

Large chandelier for high ceilings, powerful LED wall light and kitchens

Under a high ceiling, an adjustable pendant like the Rubana avoids the empty effect between the light and the table. A powerful LED wall light completes the lighting on a bare wall or a corridor. For the kitchen, the same logic applies: see a living room chandelier or a powerful LED ceiling light and the solutions designed for modern kitchen decor, where a line of light highlights the worktop.

Light for toilets and small spaces

In a small volume, a compact 25 W ceiling light or a discreet wall light is enough and takes up no space. Keep a model intended for indoor use, placed away from direct splashes. A discreet light point for night-time passages completes the set without waking anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Which outdoor LED strip?

Choose a strip whose protection is rated for water and humidity, placed on a clean surface and away from stagnation zones. Length, voltage and colour are then chosen according to the surface to be treated: deck, coping, pergola or access path.

IP68 LED strip for pools: is it essential?

Two points then matter: the length of the reel chosen and the supply voltage, which depends on the line length to be covered. In a wall, installation assumes the strip is held in a waterproof profile below the waterline.

12V pool LED strip: how to power it?

A 12V strip runs on low voltage: it is connected to a transformer placed out of the water, in the technical room or a sheltered box. 12V suits short lengths; for a long line, check the voltage recommended by the manufacturer, or compare with our 24V LED strips.

LED strip for above-ground pools: how to fix it?

On an above-ground pool, the strip is most often placed on the structure or the deck, never in the water. Clean and dry the surface, glue or screw, then run the cable down to a sheltered box. Cutting the power comes before connecting.

Solar LED strip for pools: what battery life to expect?

Battery life depends on sunlight, panel area and battery, with no universal value. In practice, it lights the deck, a path or a pergola, but not the pool itself, which requires a dedicated power supply.

Which powerful LED ceiling light for a large room?

For a large volume, look for a ribbon ceiling light that diffuses widely rather than a single point. The Rubano, in white metal and 45 W, lights through-rooms such as the kitchen, dining room or living room. These lights are intended for sheltered interior spaces.

LED chandelier: what is the difference from a ceiling light?

A chandelier or pendant comes down into the room and lights a precise area, such as a table; a ceiling light stays on the ceiling and diffuses over the whole surface. In a house open to the pool, the two are often combined: pendant above the table, ceiling light for the rest.

Light for toilets: what to choose near a pool house?

In a small, sheltered damp space, a wall light or a ribbon light diffuses a soft light without taking up space. Keep a model intended for indoor use, placed away from direct splashes, and complete with a discreet light point for night-time passages.
