A mushroom lamp is chosen first for the light it casts on the floor: a low, enveloping pool that never shines straight into your eyes. Then you look at the height, the socket and the material of the shade, because these three points decide the use, from a reading corner to a simple extra light.
What is a mushroom lamp and what light does it give?
It is a floor lamp whose round shade, dome or ball shaped, tops a slim stem, a cord or a base. The light falls in a soft pool, without glare, which makes it an ideal extra light near a sofa, an armchair or a bed.
White mushroom lamp: what the colour changes in the room
A white shade lets the light through and spreads it widely, which brightens the wall behind it and visually enlarges a dark corner. It blends into a light interior. The Nicodemo and its white dome is the illustration: metal, iron and linen, 50.5 cm high for 50.5 cm in diameter, placed on the floor like a small piece of light furniture. In light tones, you will also find the white versions of the selection.
Ball, dome or disc: three ways to diffuse light
The ball diffuses downwards and to the sides, without a hard point: the Fongara with its ball shade reaches 166 cm and takes an E27 bulb. The dome concentrates the flow downwards and suits low rooms. The disc lights more widely: the Onda, with its 27 cm top disc and 187 cm height, works in warm white from 2700 to 3500 K and is dimmable. To compare volumes, see the ball shapes.

Where to place a mushroom lamp in the home?
It goes where you want a low, enveloping light: near the sofa, at the end of a coffee table, next to an armchair. In a bedroom, it complements the bedside lamp; in a hallway or a toilet, a compact and low format is preferred.
A mushroom lamp in the living room
The living room remains its natural place. It is placed at the end of a sofa or behind an armchair, so that the shade passes above the shoulder when seated. A room of 20 to 30 m² supports two low sources without becoming dark, provided they do not face each other. To vary the silhouettes, browse the living room floor lamps and the modern models.
Bedroom, office and small rooms: hallway, bathroom, toilet
In a bedroom, it replaces or doubles the bedside lamp: the Funga with cord and switch, in metal, iron and linen, sits near the bed with a simple plug. For a toilet floor lamp, a hallway or a landing, you need a low and compact model: the Nicodemo, at 50.5 cm high, lights without cluttering the passage. In the office, prefer a neutral light for working. For damp rooms, check the stated protection rating and nothing more, an IP20 model staying indoors. How to choose your mushroom lamp according to height and socket?
First look at the height: a tall model carries the light above the gaze, a small format suits low rooms. Then the socket, E27 or E14, which decides the replaceable bulb, then the power and the colour temperature.
E27 or E14 socket: what changes for the bulb
The socket conditions everything: an E27 holder accepts most bulbs on the market, an E14 is limited to small formats. On the standing floor lamp, this detail decides whether you can change the bulb in five years. Models with integrated LED keep the temperature fixed at the factory.
Standing or base floor lamp: height and stability
A conical or tripod stem on a round base holds better on a wooden floor than a narrow base, and slips behind an armchair. Check the useful height: around 160 to 190 cm, the shade goes above the gaze of a seated person. Tall heights are compared in the floor lamps and more contemporary silhouettes in the contemporary models. A simple tip: place the fixture before buying the bulb, never the other way round.

Vintage, gold or chrome mushroom lamp: which style to choose?
The style is played out on the finish and the shape of the stem: black and gold for an art deco feel, white for a minimalist look, gold for warmth. The ball and dome models remain the closest to the original mushroom spirit, whatever the colour.
Vintage and black and gold mushroom lamp: the spirit of the 1970s
This register relies on an opaque shade, a conical or tripod stem and a contrast of finishes. The Élégance Art Déco black and gold, in metal, fabric and iron, with its E27 socket, gives the dressed-up version, in a living room as in an office. The matte black models play the same role more soberly.
Original floor lamp for the living room: what sets it apart
What sets a piece apart is rarely the colour alone: it is the gap between the shape of the stem and that of the shade. A perched ball, a disc on a round base or a very slim stem are enough. The Halo Naturel with its jungle spirit, in metal, iron and aluminium, comes in gold, black or white, in 60 cm as in 162 cm. Warm finishes are grouped in the gold finishes.
Can a mushroom lamp be used with a dimmer or a halogen bulb?
Models with an E27 or E14 socket take the bulb you choose, halogen or LED. Only the reference supplied with a dimmer, the Onda with LED, is designed for dimming: elsewhere, a non-dimmable bulb buzzes or switches off in steps.
Halogen floor lamp: what you need to know about the socket
A halogen floor lamp does not exist as a separate category: the socket decides. The Fongara and the Funga are stated as E27 and therefore accept a halogen bulb as well as an LED, within the power limit of the holder. The Ulio is rated at 40 W. A halogen heats more and consumes more than an equivalent LED.
Halogen floor lamp with dimmer: the compatibility to check
Dimming belongs to the fixture, not the bulb. On a model without a dimmer, a smart bulb or a dimmer plug does the job. The Onda, with LED and integrated dimmer, is the only one in the selection designed for dimming; the other configurations are compared in the adjustable brightness references.
| Configuration | What it allows | To check before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| E27 socket | Freely choose your bulb, halogen or LED | The maximum power of the holder and the type of light wanted |
| E14 socket | A smaller bulb, suited to compact shades | The exact socket stated on the model sheet |
| Integrated LED | Colour temperature fixed at manufacture | The bulb cannot be replaced, the stated temperature is final |
| Integrated dimmer | Modulate the light intensity on the fixture | Reserve the use of the dimmer for compatible bulbs |
| Halogen bulb | Immediate warm light, simple replacement | The consumption and heat given off, higher than an LED |
| LED bulb | Reduced consumption and long life | Compatibility with the dimmer if the fixture has one |
Can a mushroom lamp be installed outdoors?
Yes, provided you choose a model designed for outdoor use. The Sféa, to stake in a flower bed and powered by the sun, has an IP44 protection rating. A model stated as IP20 stays indoors, even under an awning or a pergola.
IP44: the model to stake in a garden or flower bed
The IP44 rating indicates resistance to water splashes, which is enough for a flower bed or a border. The Sféa to stake in the garden, in resin, plastic and metal, runs on solar energy and is planted where running a cable is least practical. No higher waterproofing is stated.
Gold or black ball for a sheltered terrace
The Halo Naturel comes in gold, black or white and is also intended for a child's room, but it is stated as IP20: it does not take the rain, even under a pergola. Under a genuinely dry awning, a ball on a stake remains the only outdoor option in the selection. For indoors, compare the metal floor lamps.
How to install and maintain a mushroom lamp?
Assembly is limited to putting together the base, the stem and the shade, then plugging in the cable and fitting the bulb. For maintenance, a soft cloth is enough on metal and glass, a duster on linen, and abrasive products should be avoided on gold finishes.
Assembly, cable and switch
First screw the base or the stem, fit the shade last so as not to twist it, then check stability before plugging in. The Funga uses a cord with a switch: handy at the bedside, less so across a passage. To avoid a visible cable, there are models with a tall structure in the design floor lamps.
Cleaning metal, glass and linen
A slightly damp microfibre cloth is enough on metal and glass. On a linen or fabric shade, dust with a duster or gentle vacuuming, never with a wet sponge. Gold finishes do not take well to abrasive products and alcohol: they tarnish. All models in the shop are covered by a two-year warranty.
What to pair a mushroom lamp with in the living room?
Place it out of the passage, near the sofa or an armchair, so that the light falls on the book and not in your eyes. For the bulb, a warm light creates a soft atmosphere, a neutral or cool light serves reading and working better.
Which bulb to get a warm light
A temperature around 2700 to 3500 K gives this warm rendering, close to the old incandescent. Above 4500 K, the light leans towards cold white: useful in the office, less so in a relaxation corner. References already set to warm are found in the LED floor lamps.
Positioning it without cluttering the passage
Allow 20 to 30 cm between the edge of the sofa and the shade, and leave a clear passage of at least 60 cm to move around. A linen shade diffuses more softly than glass, which bounces back more light. To match materials, see the linen shades and all the light fixtures.
Frequently asked questions about the mushroom lamp
Which mushroom lamp to choose for an original living room?
For an original living room, look at the shape of the shade and the base before the colour. The Onda, with its top disc and round base, plays the contemporary card, while the Élégance Art Déco in black and gold takes on a vintage spirit. The height then decides.
Can you put a halogen bulb in a mushroom lamp?
None of these floor lamps is sold with its bulb. Models with an E27 socket, such as the Fongara or the Funga, therefore accept a halogen bulb as well as an LED, within the power limit of the holder. The versions with integrated LED, however, cannot be replaced.
Does a halogen floor lamp with a dimmer work on these models?
Dimming depends on the fixture, not the socket. Only one reference in the selection comes with a dimmer: the Onda, with LED. On a model without a dimmer, you can add a smart bulb or a dimmer plug, otherwise the bulb buzzes or switches off in steps.
Mushroom bedside lamp: how does it differ from a floor lamp?
The mushroom bedside lamp, like the Funga, plugs into a socket and sits near the bed: it has a cord with a switch and an extra-light height. The floor lamp, on the other hand, reaches higher, 166 cm for the Fongara, and lights from the floor.
Vintage mushroom lamp: how to recognise it?
A vintage mushroom lamp is recognised by its round, opaque shade, its conical or tripod stem and its black and gold finishes, like the Élégance Art Déco. Metal, iron, fabric and a warm light complete this register.
How to light a toilet or a small hallway with a mushroom lamp?
For a toilet, a hallway or a small landing, a low and compact model is better. The Nicodemo measures 50.5 cm high for 50.5 cm in diameter: it lights without cluttering the passage. Simply check the stated protection rating for the room.
Ball floor lamp: which bulb and socket to plan for?
The socket is read in the product sheet: the Fongara, with its ball-shaped shade, uses an E27, while the Halo Naturel, also a ball, is stated as E14. You choose your bulb according to this socket, favouring a warm light.
What height of standing floor lamp to choose so as not to be dazzled?
A standing floor lamp is chosen first for the room: a tall height, like the 166 cm of the Fongara, places the light above the gaze and avoids glare when seated. In a low room, a compact format is enough.
