Start by thinking about how you will use it: LED strip lights for living room draw an indirect line of light along the ceiling, in a cornice or at the top of a wall, and are complemented by a central fixture for general lighting. The models gathered here are IP20 rated, mostly white and some black, with power ratings from 15 to 45 W and a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K on part of the selection.
What is an LED strip light for living room and what light does it give?
An LED strip light for living room is a flexible band of light-emitting diodes, often self-adhesive and low-voltage, that lights in a linear way. It is fixed under a shelf, along a wall or in a cornice to create an indirect halo. In the room, this shows as a continuous line or a halo: the back wall stands out, the underside of a shelf is lit, the seating area bathes in grazing light and the ceiling appears higher when the strip stays hidden. The light is linear, with no isolated hot spot, and a light-coloured surface reflects it much better than a dark wall.
Technically, these models run either on integrated LEDs or on an E27 base. All are IP20, so reserved for dry rooms, in metal or aluminium, with a white body in most cases and black on some references. The power ratings recorded range from 15 to 45 W, as detailed in the range of light strips.
LED strip for living room: what light for which mood?
Around 2700 K, the result leans towards amber and suits evenings. Around 3000 K, it stays warm but more neutral, useful when the room also serves as an office. These two reference points correspond to 2700K strips on one side and 3000K strips on the other. One single colour temperature per room avoids unpleasant mixes.
LED strip for living room in white or black: which to choose?
A white body blends into a light ceiling and leaves only the light visible. A black body draws a strong line on a light wall or ceiling. The choice therefore depends on what you want to show: the light for white, the line for black.
Is it possible to light a room with an LED strip?
Yes, with one nuance: a strip lights well indirectly on a light surface, but a good-sized living room often needs a central point as well. The power ratings in the collection, 15, 25, 29, 31 and 45 W, cover two situations: an ambient complement in a small space, or the general lighting of a living room when the strip is wide and placed on the ceiling.
The simple criterion remains the surface area and the installation height. The larger the room, the longer and more powerful the source must be, and the higher it must be placed. For direct mains connection, 220V LED strips are installed without a transformer, while 24V models require a driver to be housed. In both cases, the strip is combined with a ceiling light or a pendant.
How to choose an LED strip for living room?
The useful order is: use, then power, then format and base, finally the colour temperature. Ambient light is satisfied with a compact format, main lighting calls for a wide diffuser that spreads the light. The Rubano ceiling light in metal, LED and 45 W, measures H 120 mm, L 410 mm, W 510 mm and covers large spaces. The Vorada ceiling light, H 17 cm and 25 W, plays discreet on a low ceiling.
| Criterion | What the collection offers | What this changes in the living room |
|---|---|---|
| Type of light | Integrated LEDs or E27 base depending on the model | Linear and even light, suited to indirect lighting |
| Protection rating | IP20 | Use in dry rooms: living room, bedroom, office, hallway, corridor |
| Power | From 15 to 45 W | From ambient complement to main lighting for a large living room |
| Colour temperature | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K on some models | Warm result, without a bluish cast |
| Materials and colours | Metal or aluminium, white body, black on some references | Blends into a light ceiling or creates contrast |
| Formats | Compact ceiling light, 60 cm model, Ø 60 cm pendant, very large format | Adapt to the room surface and available height |
LED base or E27: what difference in a living room?
An integrated LED gives a continuous, even line, with no visible bulb, but the module cannot be replaced. An E27 base, as on the Moln small model pendant of 15 W, leaves the option of changing the bulb. So you choose evenness on one side, flexibility on the other.
LED strips price: what makes the figure vary
Without giving a figure, the cost depends on four elements: power, format, material and protection rating. The price depends on the chosen reference, without format or material being enough to establish it. The announced warranty also varies, from two to five years depending on the references.
Where to place an LED strip in the living room?
The positions that work: at the top of a wall, in a cornice, along a bookcase, as grazing light under a shelf, or as a central fixture when the format is a strip ceiling light. The product sheets mention living room, bedroom, office, hallway, corridor, kitchen, dining room and staircase depending on the models.
LED strip for living room ceiling: what result day to day?
Placed on the ceiling, the strip lights upwards and leaves the room in a soft light, but it does not reach down to the table. A strip ceiling light, whose band is wrapped in a diffuser, solves this point: the light goes in all directions. This is the case with the Vorada ceiling light L 60 cm, 29 W, intended for a living room or an office.
LED strip for bathroom: why IP20 is not enough?
All the models in this collection are IP20, a protection that withstands neither humidity nor splashes. In a bathroom, you need to turn to strips for damp rooms. For a pool, it is pool LED strips that you should look at, with a suitable protection rating.
Ceiling light, pendant or LED strip: how to match living room fixtures?
Think in layers: the strip for ambience, a ceiling light or pendant for general lighting, a wall light or an occasional fixture for reading. Three references cover a living room well: Rubano as a 45 W ceiling light, Rubana as a black strip pendant of Ø 60 cm and 31 W, adjustable from 45.7 to 325.7 cm, and Vorada L 60 cm at 29 W. One single colour temperature for the whole. The collection has 11 products in total.
Modern living room chandelier and LED strip: how to marry them?
A modern living room chandelier brings a visible point and direct lighting, the strip a grazing and discreet light. Keep both, but not at the same level: the chandelier in the centre, the strip on the periphery, so that shadows stay consistent. In terms of style, the models in the collection are contemporary or modern, in metal and aluminium, which matches a graphic chandelier.
Living room wall light: what role as a complement?
A wall light illuminates a specific area, a wall, a painting or an armchair, where the strip covers an entire line. The two complement each other without duplicating. For an original fixture in the living room, better to have one strong piece, a graphic pendant for example, rather than several small sources at the same level.
To compose the whole, browse our selection of light fixtures and choose a central source that anchors the room.
What are the drawbacks of LEDs?
Consumption is low and lifespan long, but the light is directed: a badly placed strip leaves dark areas. On models with integrated LEDs, the module cannot be replaced, the fixture must be changed. The power supply remains to be hidden, and IP20 limits use to dry rooms. A strip placed facing a screen or a shiny surface also creates annoying reflections.
Halogen living room: what has changed with LED
Halogen gave off a lot of heat and consumed a lot for a point and very warm light. LED gives a comparable shade, around 2700 K, with less heat released into the room and a finer source, which allows linear formats impossible with a classic bulb.
Bright living room paint colour: what to know before repainting
A light, matt shade, off-white or beige, reflects the light better than a dark, glossy wall. The warm white of the strips matches these shades, whereas a cool white on a grey wall gives a harsher result. Keep one single white on the walls and let the light do the rest.
How to install and maintain an LED strip on the ceiling?
Cut the power before any work, then prepare a clean, dry, dust-free surface: how well a strip holds depends first on the surface. Respect the installation direction and the original fixing, provide an accessible but hidden power supply, and check the available cable length if the pendant is height-adjustable, as on Rubana between 45.7 and 325.7 cm. For a ceiling light or a strip pendant, follow the manufacturer's instructions rather than an improvised assembly. Maintenance is limited to dry dusting: no water, no liquid product on an IP20 product.
How to distribute light sources in a living room open to the kitchen?
Keep the same colour temperature from one space to the other, otherwise the eye perceives two separate moods. Reserve the strip for ambient light, at the top of a wall or in a cornice, and entrust general lighting to strip ceiling lights. In this type of living space, product sheets often mention living room, kitchen and dining room together, which makes matching easier.
Living room ceiling spotlight layout: useful reference points
Align the sources with the usage areas, worktop, table, reading corner, rather than with the geometry of the room. Generally, a regular gap is kept between two light points placed at the same distance from the wall, following the line of the worktop. Avoid multiplying different lighting levels in the same view.
Modern kitchen decor: extending the living room light
The same family of fixtures, white or black body, metal and aluminium materials, is enough to hold the two spaces together. RGB LED strips and RGBW LED strips bring a complementary colour for an evening, but warm white remains the basis of a successful living space.
Which models to choose by room and format?
A strip ceiling light for the living room, office or hallway; a strip pendant for a table, a staircase or a high space; the 3-light model for large surfaces; a small E27 format for a complement. Power and size guide the decision before style.

Frequently asked questions
Does a powerful LED wall light replace an LED strip in a living room?
No, not systematically. A wall light illuminates a specific area, a wall or a painting, while a strip covers an entire line and creates a halo. In a living room, the two complement each other: the wall light for reading, the strip for ambience.
Chandelier or LED strip: what to choose for a modern living room?
A modern chandelier brings a visible central piece and direct lighting, the strip a grazing and discreet light. In a modern living room, a graphic pendant and a strip as ambient light are often combined, keeping one single colour temperature.
Large living room chandelier or LED strip: how to light a large space?
In a large space, a large-diameter pendant or a three-point model covers the height without crowding the room, complemented by a strip for ambient light. Avoid multiplying small sources at the same level, which fragment the light.
What paint colour for a bright living room?
A light, matt shade, off-white or beige, reflects the light of a strip better than a dark, glossy wall. The warm white of the strips in the collection matches these shades. Keep one single white on the walls, the light does the rest.
Which LED strip for a living room ceiling?
For a living room ceiling, choose a strip ceiling light that diffuses over the whole surface, such as a white wrapped model or a 60 cm format. A strip placed directly on the ceiling brings indirect light, but does not always replace a central fixture.
