A 2700K LED strip gives off a warm white, the shade of a filament bulb, suited to rooms where you live in the evening. To choose one, start with the voltage (12V, 24V or 220V), then the ingress protection rating according to exposure to water and dust, then the type of strip, classic or COB.

What does the value 2700K mean on a bulb or an LED strip?

K is the symbol for kelvin, the unit that measures colour temperature. 2700K designates a warm white, the shade of a lit filament bulb, more golden than a neutral white. On a strip or an LED bulb, this value describes the colour of the light produced, not the power or the consumption.

Warm 2700K LED strip: what atmosphere in a living room?

Switched on in the evening, a 2700K strip lays down a golden light that stays low and does not whiten the walls. Set as indirect lighting, behind a piece of furniture or under a shelf, it lights the relief without showing its source: the room gains a warm depth that ceiling light alone does not give. It is the shade that extends an evening without straining the eye.

2700K or 3000K, how not to get it wrong?

2700K leans clearly towards gold, 3000K stays warm but a little whiter. In the same room, mixing the two shows: one run looks yellow next to the other. If your room is already fitted in 3000K, stay in that family or compare the 3000K versions before ordering both shades.

2700K LED strip: which rooms to install it in?

A 2700K LED strip goes where you want a warm, continuous light: along a worktop, under a living room unit, around a dining room or as a line on the floor of a hallway. Keep it for moments of relaxation rather than for sustained task lighting.

How to light a kitchen worktop in 2700K?

Under the wall units, the strip lights the surface without casting a shadow on your hands. The grazing light reveals materials and stays warm on a wooden or stone worktop. The constraint lies in the proximity of water and steam: check the ingress protection rating and how easy it is to clean, and look at waterproof strips if the area is exposed.

Bedroom and hallway: 2700K strip as a night light or indirect lighting?

At the head of the bed, the strip is used to read or to create a low halo before sleeping. In a hallway, set on the floor or high on the wall, it traces a continuous path without a visible light point, which avoids dark areas between two doors. In both cases, indirect use gives the best result.

Choosing your 2700K LED strip according to the room
Room Recommended use What the light changes What to check
Living room Indirect lighting under a unit or a ledge A warm backdrop that extends the ceiling light Suitable protection, accessible power supply
Dining room Strip around the edge or under a wall unit A golden light that does not dazzle at the table Solid fixing, cutting at the marks
Kitchen Under the wall units, above the worktop A grazing light on the working surface Water and steam, easy cleaning
Bedroom Head of bed or indirect lighting on the floor A soft light to read or fall asleep Dimming possible depending on the power supply
Hallway Line on the floor or high on the wall A lit path without a visible source Length and connection of the sections

How to choose your 2700K LED strip: voltage, ingress protection and rendering?

Start with the voltage: a 12V or 24V strip runs on a separate power supply, a 220V strip connects to the mains. Then comes the ingress protection rating, according to exposure to water and steam, then the rendering, between a strip with visible points and a COB strip with a continuous line.

2700K LED strip 220V, 24V or 12V: which to choose?

The Rubano and Rubana models are LED, with IP20, 45 W for the white metal ceiling light and 31 W for the black aluminium pendant. The Rubano is 410 mm long and suits the living room, the bedroom or the office; the Rubana has a Ø of 60 cm and is installed in the living room, the dining room or the kitchen. These pieces are chosen according to the room and the style, contemporary for the Rubano and modern for the Rubana. Compare the 220V strips without a transformer and the 24V models.

2700K LED strip IP65 or IP20: which ingress protection rating?

IP20 is content with a dry interior: living room, bedroom, hallway, under a unit. IP65 and above resist splashes and dust, so damp rooms and protected outdoor uses. Think about the connectors as much as the strip: that is often where water gets in. For a pool, see pool lighting.

COB 2700K LED strip: a light without visible points

A COB strip gathers the chips behind a continuous layer: the light appears as a regular line, without distinct diodes or repeated reflections. It is the rendering chosen for a worktop, a niche or a step, where a classic strip shows its points. If you want to change shade at will, the RGB colour strips and the RGBW models add warm white to the mix.

Voltage, protection and rendering: the criteria to compare
Criterion What it changes What to check
12V voltage Short lengths, power supply nearby Location of the power supply unit
24V voltage Longer lengths, even brightness Compatible and sufficient power supply
220V voltage Direct connection, long runs Wiring and electrical protection
IP20 rating Dry interior only No exposure to water or steam
IP65 rating and above Damp rooms, protected outdoor Watertightness of the connectors as much as the strip
Classic strip Visible light points Support or profile that hides the diodes
COB strip Continuous light line Depth of the profile to house the strip

Cuttable LED strip: how does it work?

A cuttable LED strip is cut only at the marks printed on the circuit, at regular intervals. Cut in the middle of the mark, then close the circuit with a suitable connector. Cutting elsewhere makes the section unusable, because the current no longer reaches the following chips.

Where to cut a 2700K LED strip without damaging it?

The marks form regular marks, often a line between two contact pads. Cut in the centre of this mark, with a clean tool, without crushing the circuit. Before fixing, test the section on the power supply: a check at this point avoids taking down an already stuck strip.

Can a 2700K strip that has already been cut be extended?

Yes, with a connector or a linking cord, provided the voltage and the gauge are respected. Beyond a few metres on the same power supply, the brightness weakens at the end of the run: it is better to start again with a 24V low voltage power supply for a clean line continuation.

How to install and maintain a 2700K LED strip?

A 2700K strip is installed on a clean, smooth surface, or better in an aluminium profile that dissipates heat and diffuses the light. The power supply goes in a ventilated and accessible place. For maintenance, a dry cloth is enough: never spray a non-waterproof strip.

Do you need a transformer for a 2700K LED strip?

Only if the strip is 12V or 24V: you then need a power supply that converts the mains and supports the connected length. A 220V strip does not need one. In all cases, provide access to the unit so it can be replaced without unsticking the strip, and ventilation around it.

Aluminium profile or original adhesive: which fixing to choose?

The original adhesive is enough on a clean, flat, painted support, for a light strip. The aluminium profile remains the best option: it holds the strip, spreads the heat and smooths the light by removing the points. On an uneven wall or in a kitchen, it prevents peeling after a few months.

Ceiling LED lighting: ceiling light, pendant or 2700K strip?

A 2700K strip highlights a relief or a piece of furniture, whereas an LED ceiling light lights the whole room and a pendant hangs above a table. In a living room, the three are often combined: a ceiling light for the backdrop, a pendant for the table, a strip for the warm atmosphere.

Is a powerful LED ceiling light enough for a large living room?

It carries the general lighting, but a single source on the ceiling leaves shadows under the furniture and hardens faces in the evening. A ceiling light completed by an indirect strip gives a homogeneous luminous backdrop and a warm additional light. The Rubano LED ceiling light combines the two: its zigzag strip runs over a white metal shell of 410 x 510 mm, for 120 mm in height, 45 W and an IP20 rating. Its contemporary style suits the living room, the dining room, the kitchen, the hallway or the office.

Modern LED ceiling light or hidden strip: what rendering on the ceiling?

The hidden strip draws a light, airy luminous line, almost invisible once switched off. The modern ceiling light asserts its presence: it structures the room and stands out on the ceiling. If you are looking for something to convince a client, show the rendering of the Rubano switched on, then its dimensions; the decorative effect and the measurement reassure both audiences. Find this type of fixture in the lighting catalogue.

Pendant, wall light or LED chandelier to complete a 2700K strip?

To complete a 2700K strip, look at what the room calls for: a pendant above the table, an LED wall light for a wall or a hallway, an LED chandelier when you want a central point. The essential thing is to keep the same family of light, a warm white, from one fixture to another.

LED living room wall light or powerful LED wall light: where to place them?

A modern wall light goes on either side of a sofa or along a hallway, for a low accompanying light. A more powerful wall light replaces a main source in an entrance or on a landing. In both cases, it must stay in warm white: a cool wall light next to a 2700K strip breaks the unity. Browse all our light fixtures to match the shades, and look at the LED strips on a roll for the linear part.

LED living room chandelier: how to match it with a warm light?

The LED chandelier brings a central point above a table or in a large volume. It works with the strip if its light stays in the same warm family, without leaning towards cool white. The Rubana pendant gives the example: a spiral luminous strip on a black aluminium structure of Ø 60 cm, 31 W, IP20, with an adjustable height from 45.7 cm to 325.7 cm. Its modern style suits the living room, the dining room and the kitchen, just above a worktop or a table.

What budget, what warranty and what service for a 2700K LED strip?

The budget of a 2700K strip depends mainly on the length, the voltage and the ingress protection rating chosen: a short strip in a dry interior and a long line in a waterproof version are not at the same level. There are accessible models and more elaborate pieces, to be chosen according to the place they occupy. At Designix, some references are guaranteed for 3 years and others for 5 years, the indication appears on each product sheet. Among the references, the Rubana pendant is LED IP20 and 31 W, the Rubano ceiling light is LED IP20 and 45 W. Need help with a voltage or a length? Frequently asked questions about 2700K LED strips

What is the best brand of LED strip?

The brand matters less than the technical sheet: colour temperature, voltage, ingress protection rating, type of circuit and warranty. A 2700K strip suited to the room, installed on a clean support and powered correctly, lasts longer than a poorly chosen model. The warranty indicated on the sheet remains the most reliable reference.

Dimmable 2700K LED strip: what do you need to plan for?

A strip does not dim on its own: you need a compatible power supply and a dimmer suited to the voltage of the strip. The dimmer is chosen with the power supply, not afterwards. A wall control or a remote control can drive the whole thing, provided the wiring is planned from the start.

2700K LED strip 220V or 24V: what is the difference?

220V connects directly to the mains and suits long lengths. 24V runs on a separate power supply, which leaves more freedom of cutting and connection, provided you plan a ventilated place for the unit.

What does a COB 2700K LED strip add?

A COB strip gathers the chips behind a continuous layer, so the light appears as a regular line, without distinct points. It is this rendering that makes it chosen for a worktop, a niche or a staircase, where a classic strip shows its diodes and their reflections.

Is there a 2700K IP65 LED strip for a damp room?

Yes, a 2700K strip also exists in a waterproof version, with a high ingress protection rating that makes it compatible with damp rooms or a protected outdoor setting. The rating to remember depends on exposure to water and dust: the stronger it is, the higher the rating must be.

Is a 12V 2700K LED strip suitable for a staircase or a piece of furniture?

A 12V strip suits short lengths, like a stair step or the inside of a piece of furniture, because it runs on a power supply placed nearby. Beyond a few metres, the voltage drops at the end of the run and the brightness becomes uneven: 24V is then preferred.
