A 220V LED light connects directly to the mains, with no transformer or external driver: the conversion is built into the socket or the module. Ceiling lights, wall lights, chandeliers and pendants in this collection therefore fit onto an existing installation, in the living room, the kitchen or the bathroom.

What is a 220V LED light, and why does it need no transformer?
A 220V LED light connects directly to the domestic mains, like a conventional light: the current conversion is built into the socket or the LED module. There is therefore no separate power supply to house in the wall or ceiling, which makes replacing an old light fitting simpler.
220V LED bulb without a transformer: what changes at the connection
The job is the same as for an ordinary light: two wires, a connector block, a fixing. The electronics that adapt the current live in the bulb base or in the module, so there is nothing to recess into the wall and nothing to ventilate. That is what makes replacing a light fitting doable, even on an old installation. To see the families available, browse all our lights.
E27, GU10, G9 or G4 base: how to identify yours
The base is read on the light's socket, never on the bulb you are removing. A wide screw base, thin pins or a bayonet fitting completely change the model to order.
| Base or format | Where you find it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| E27 | Ceiling lights, pendants, wall lights | Socket type and bulb dimensions |
| GU10 | Adjustable and recessed spotlights | Bayonet socket, mounting direction |
| G9 | Small lights and compact wall lights | Pin socket, space around the bulb |
| G4 | Very small lights | Bulb voltage before buying |
| Integrated LED | Modern ceiling lights and wall lights | Non-replaceable source, choose on the light produced |
| LED strip | Indirect lighting | Power supply and profile length |
Which LED ceiling light to choose for a living room?
For a living room, a 220V LED ceiling light is chosen first on its format and how it spreads light: a wide, shallow model lights the whole room, a model with integrated LEDs gives even light with no visible bulbs. Check the base if the fitting accepts one, and the colour temperature of the light produced.
Modern LED ceiling light: shapes, finishes and colours
In a large room, a light that spreads out is better than one that hangs down and concentrates light in the centre. Low shapes and opal diffusers spread light widely; black, wood or copper finishes are chosen to match the furniture already in place. To compare contemporary silhouettes, look at the modern lights for the living room, then the design pieces for the living room if you want a more striking shape.
Powerful LED ceiling light: aim for the right lumens rather than watts
A powerful ceiling light is not the one showing the most watts, but the one whose light reaches the corners of the room. This collection contains 12 220V LED lights. To choose well, compare the light in the room with the intended installation. See the living room LED lighting for this type of layout.
The following table places the ceiling light among all the rooms of a house.
| Room | Type of light | Light sought | Point to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | LED ceiling light or chandelier | Wide and even | Format in proportion to the surface |
| Dining room | Pendant above the table | Downward, without glare | Hanging height |
| Kitchen | Ceiling light or recessed spotlights | Clear on the worktops | Base and protection rating |
| Bedroom | Flat ceiling light or wall light | Soft, not directed at the bed | Colour temperature |
| Bathroom | Wall light or closed ceiling light | Without hard shadows | Protection rating of the model |
| Toilet | Wall light or small ceiling light | Simple, without reflection on the walls | Easy to clean |
Are 2000 lumens a lot?
2000 lumens is a sustained light, suited to a living room or a large space. For a lounge it is consistent; for a bedroom or a hallway, a lower value is enough and avoids glare. The useful reference is not the wattage shown, but the light actually produced and the surface to be lit.
Lumens or watts: which figure to read on the packaging?
Watts measure consumption, lumens measure the light coming out of the fitting. Two bulbs of the same power can produce very different amounts of light, and it is the lumen that decides comfort. On a light with integrated LEDs, look for the lumen value on the product sheet: it is fixed and no longer depends on the bulb chosen. The models in our range of LED lights are documented this way.
Adapting the light to the surface and the mounting height
The higher the room, the more the light disperses before reaching the floor: a hallway or staircase therefore needs a more generous output than a bedroom with a low ceiling. For a small room, a hallway or a toilet, a single measured source is enough. Then set the mood with the colour temperature rather than the quantity.
How to install LED lights?
Installation follows that of a conventional light: switch off the breaker, identify the live and neutral, connect the light's connector block and then fix it to the mounting. A 220V LED light adds no particular step, since there is no transformer or external driver to allow for.
Dimmable 220V LED bulb: checking dimmer compatibility
It all comes down to the bulb and dimmer pairing: a dimmable bulb matched to a dimmer designed for LED lighting dims without flicker or buzzing. On a light with integrated LEDs, dimming depends on the fitting itself and is stated on its product sheet. If in doubt about the existing circuit, have it checked by an installer rather than improvising.
Fixing a ceiling light to the ceiling and a wall light to the wall
For a ceiling light, locate the plug in solid material, never in a void where a conduit runs. For a wall light, align the heights of the fittings with each other before drilling, otherwise the offset shows at first glance. Recessed spotlights need a clean cut: see the recessed ceiling spotlights for this type of installation.
Powerful LED wall light or LED chandelier: when to choose each?
An LED wall light illuminates where the ceiling light does not reach: hallway, headboard, stairwell. An LED chandelier, on the other hand, structures a reception room through its shape and spreads light upwards and downwards. The choice therefore depends on the intended function, targeted lighting or a centrepiece.
Powerful LED wall light: where to place it and at what height
A wall light goes at eye level in a hallway, lower at the headboard to read without waking the other person. Adjustable models suit a reading corner, fixed ones suit guidance. The material matters as much as the light: a copper or smoked glass model ages better than plastic in a busy circulation area. Compare the smoked glass lights if you want a discreet tone.
LED chandelier: when it replaces the ceiling light
A chandelier takes the place of the ceiling light when the room has volume and a piece of furniture to hang over, a dining table or an island. It then provides general light and presence at the same time. In a lower room, a more understated pendant does the same job without cluttering the space.
Lights for a toilet: which light to choose in a small space?
In a toilet, a wall light or a small 220V LED ceiling light is enough: the space is small and the light does not need to be powerful. Choose a closed model, easy to clean, with a light that is neither too cool nor too yellow so it stays comfortable.
Toilet or bathroom light: why check the protection rating
The protection rating is stated on the product sheet and indicates the light's resistance to humidity and splashes. In a toilet without a shower, an ordinary model is suitable; near a bath or a washbasin, you need a model rated for the zone concerned. This is the first thing to check before buying, along with the dimensions. The bathroom lights are documented this way.
Where to place the light around the pan and the washbasin
The classic trap is the mirror facing you: the source reflects in it and the light becomes harsh in a narrow space. It is better to light from above or from the side, and to avoid a very cool light that hardens pale walls. A single well-placed fitting is enough in most cases. For these small spaces, see the lights for toilets.
How to match several LED lights in the same room?
Keep the same family of light from one fitting to the next: one colour temperature per room, and finishes that echo each other, wood with wood, black metal with black metal. The style can vary from one light to another, the colour temperature cannot, otherwise the eye notices a mismatch.
Mixing colours without creating a break
Two materials can coexist if they share a tone: brass and light wood, matt black and smoked glass. On the other hand, a warm light on the ceiling and a cool light on the wall light are immediately visible. So choose the colour temperature first, then the colours. The beige lights and the copper models pair easily with a light interior.
Matching ceiling light, pendant and wall lights
A coherent set is built by repetition: same socket finish, same family of shapes, aligned heights. In an open kitchen, the pendant above the island can echo the finish of the ceiling light left at the back of the room. To compose this set, start from the kitchen lights or a kitchen with a strong style depending on the look you want.
Where to find 220V LED lights in Lyon?
To buy a 220V LED light in Lyon, first compare the bases and formats offered, then the possibility of seeing the light switched on and getting advice on installation. The Lyon lighting clearance stock remains worthwhile if you check the base, the voltage and the condition of the model before leaving.
Lighting shop in Lyon or buying online: what to compare
In a shop, you judge the real colour of the light and the thickness of a diffuser, which no photo renders faithfully. Online, you reach models unavailable locally and compare product sheets side by side. The two complement each other: spot the shape in a shop, check the base and the protection rating on the product sheet before ordering.
Lyon lighting clearance stock: what to check before buying
A clearance model may be an old colour or an end of line: that does not change its quality, provided you check the voltage, that the stated socket is present and the condition of the packaging. Also make sure the fixings and connector block are included. An exceptional piece is easier to spot than a full set: browse the high-end models or the original lights for this type of search.
Payment is secure on Designix, delivery is tracked and returns are possible. Customer service answers questions on the choice of bases, formats and protection ratings, to confirm a model before ordering. For technical rooms such as a garage or a hallway, also look at the garage lighting and the black pendants if you want a dark finish.
Frequently asked questions about 220V LED lights
Does a 220V LED bulb need a transformer?
No. A 220V LED bulb screws or clips into a socket supplied by the domestic mains, exactly like a conventional bulb: the conversion electronics are housed in the base. Transformers only concern low-voltage lights, a point to check on the product sheet before buying.
Which 220V LED bulb for a spotlight: GU10 or E27?
The base depends on the light's socket, not on taste. A recessed or adjustable spotlight generally takes a GU10 bulb, while a ceiling light or pendant often uses an E27. Check the socket before ordering, along with the space available around the bulb.
Dimmable 220V LED bulb: what needs checking?
The dimmer and the bulb must be compatible: a dimmable bulb matched to a dimmer designed for LED lighting dims without flicker or buzzing. On a light with integrated LEDs, dimming depends on the fitting and is stated on its product sheet. If in doubt, have the circuit checked.
Powerful LED wall light: how to choose it?
First look at its direction: downwards to light a circulation area, upwards and downwards to dress a wall, adjustable for a reading corner. Then come the material, the finish and the wall dimensions. Power alone says nothing about the visual comfort obtained.
Lights for a toilet: which light to choose?
In a toilet, a single fitting is enough: a wall light or a small closed ceiling light, easy to clean. Avoid a light that is too cool, which hardens small spaces, and a position that sends a reflection into the mirror. Check the protection rating stated on the model's product sheet.
