Start by looking at the room to be furnished and the ceiling height, then at the diameter and colour of the light fixture's body. A large chandelier is chosen by use before style: several light points for broad illumination, a socket you can replace, a colour that matches the metals already in place.
Which large chandelier should you choose for a living room or dining room?
In a living room or dining room, a large chandelier is chosen first by the space available and the light you want: several light points for broad illumination, an E27 socket to change bulbs, or an integrated LED module for a more even finish. Most models in the collection are intended for these two rooms.
The bedroom, kitchen and hallway come next, when the volume allows. Placed above the sofa or the table, a large chandelier delivers a wash of light without dazzling the people seated below.
Living room chandelier
In the living room, the colour of the body matters as much as the shape. Black and gold dominate the selection, white blends into a pale ceiling and silver leans contemporary. The black smoked glass ball chandelier with nine lights embraces contrast: smoked glass, black metal, Ø 140 cm, nine E27 points.
Dining room chandelier
Above a table, the light should fall towards the work surface and not into the diners' eyes. A round shape or a cascade spreads the light points along the length. The brass and amber glass pendant with nine lights plays that card, in E27, with a warm finish above dark wood.
For a longer table, browse the large-format pendants with several light points, which are easier to adjust in height.
| Room | What matters | Shapes and materials that work |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | Wash of light and the focal point | Round, ball, cascade; crystal, smoked glass, gold or black metal |
| Dining room | Light above the table and height adjustment | Round, tube, balls; brass and amber glass, smoked glass, metal |
| Bedroom | Soft light and a non-intrusive format | Ball, round; metal, glass, velvet fabric |
| Kitchen | Clear lighting and easy maintenance | Tube, straight lines; aluminium, metal |
| Hallway and staircase | Clear passage and great height | Cascade, ball, suspended shapes; metal, glass |
Modern living room chandelier: which styles and materials should you choose?
The modern and contemporary register dominates the selection: gold or black metal, smoked glass, cut crystal, aluminium. The choice comes down to the body material and the overall colour, which set the mood. A crystal or cut glass chandelier reflects light, a black metal body concentrates it.
The industrial look comes next, with iron and aluminium. Bohemian and minimalist close the ranks, with gold crystal on one side and straight lines and neutral colours on the other.
Designer and contemporary chandelier
A contemporary design is recognised by its clean lines and its light points aligned rather than clustered. For a recent interior, the large ceiling lights remain the alternative when the ceiling is low and a cable has no place.
Diamond and cut crystal chandelier
Diamond chandelier is the common term for faceted crystal: no precious stone, just cut glass that multiplies the light of a warm white bulb. The large crystal chandelier is an example, with a weight of 28 kg that demands a serious fixing point.
Large industrial, bohemian or minimalist chandelier: how do you match the style to the room?
Pick up the dominant colour of the room among black, gold, white, silver and smoked, then add only one other strong material. That is the simplest and most sustainable rule. A large industrial chandelier in black metal or aluminium suits a raw living room or a hallway, a bohemian model in gold crystal dresses a bedroom.
Avoid stacking three different finishes in the same field of vision: two are enough, and the third is reserved for small objects.
Large black and aluminium chandelier
The KARBON 4 chandelier is made of aluminium, in GU10, 122 cm long with a maximum height of 212 cm: it is mounted lengthways above a counter or an island, and it comes in many finishes, from black to beige.
Large gold metal pendant chandelier
An adjustable cable changes everything in a hallway or on a staircase: you lower the fixture to the desired drop without touching the wiring. The tree pendant in metal, glass and gold iron creates a more organic effect, in G4, with dimensions from 45 to 90 cm.
E27, GU10, E14 or G4: which socket and which light for a large chandelier?
The socket decides the light and the maintenance. E27 dominates the collection: common bulbs, easy replacement. GU10 and G4 appear on models with small light points or LEDs, E14 on compact formats. As for temperature, warm white 2700-3500 K remains the most common, ahead of cool white and neutral white.
A very low luminous flux announced with a high wattage is a data entry error: in that case, keep the wattage and do not invent any replacement value.
E27 bulb or integrated LED module
E27 leaves the choice of bulb and is replaced in a minute. The integrated LED module cannot be changed, but it gives an even finish and avoids the question of the missing bulb. The Lumière Zenith LED ceiling light illustrates the second case, at 16 W and dimmer compatible.
Warm white or cool white: which temperature for a living room?
Around 2700 to 3500 K, the light leans amber and suits both the living room and the bedroom. Between 4500 and 6500 K, it becomes whiter and crisper, useful in a kitchen or an office. To broaden your search, compare with our full range of light fixtures.
| Socket | Type of source | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| E27 | Screw bulb, wide base | The most widespread: bulbs easy to find, simple replacement |
| GU10 | Pin bulb, often LED | Small light points, suited to branched chandeliers |
| E14 | Screw bulb, slim base | Compact formats, on chandeliers with several light points |
| G4 | Very small bulb | Slim chandeliers with many light points, in glass or metal |
| Integrated LED | Non-replaceable module | Even finish, no bulb changes to plan for |
At what height should you hang a large chandelier?
The usable height depends on the model: cables range from 145 cm to 350 cm depending on the reference, which allows the lowest point to be adjusted. In a hallway or on a staircase, the passage beneath the fixture is kept clear. All models in the collection are IP20, so intended for a dry room.
A large crystal chandelier can be heavy, up to 28 kg on one reference: the ceiling fixing point is confirmed before purchase, not after.
Large pendant chandelier on a staircase
The five-globe smoked glass pendant, Ø 60 cm with cable up to 350 cm is intended for these volumes: keep at least one person's passing height below the lowest point. This type of model also appears among the pendants to hang above a table.
Height above the dining table
The lowest point is set at the eye level of seated diners, never lower, so as not to cut across conversation. The green velvet pendant with drum shade adjusts from 30 to 145 cm, which leaves room under a standard ceiling.
Large rattan, straw or wicker chandelier: what should you offer instead?
This selection contains no rattan, straw or wicker: the materials are metal, glass, iron, crystal and aluminium. For a warm, natural finish, turn to amber glass, brass and glass balls, or to a gold crystal that diffuses light close to that of a woven material.
The finish matters more than the original material: amber light and a gold body give the desired impression without the weaving.
Large wicker chandelier
The woven effect can be achieved with an assembly of glass balls, which creates the same rhythm of solids and voids. The chandelier with suspended balls works on this principle, in E27, with heights from 40 to 80 cm.
Large straw chandelier
For the warmth of straw, amber glass combined with a gold body comes closest. The cloud chandelier with suspended shapes in glass and gold metal, in GU10, plays that card in a living room or a hallway.
What is a synonym for large chandelier?
Depending on the context, large chandelier is called a pendant, a ceiling light, a chandelier or a suspended light fixture. Chandelier refers to the fixture with several light points suspended from the ceiling; pendant emphasises the cable, ceiling light the direct fixing. In decoration, chandelier remains the most used term.
These words do not quite cover the same objects, and the confusion often comes from there.
Large chandelier 6 letters
LUSTRE has six letters. That is the expected answer when a letter grid asks for a suspended light fixture with several light points. For a direct ceiling fixing, the expected word is rather PLAFONNIER, nine letters.
Large chandelier crossword clues
In a grid, the most frequent definition is "suspended light fixture". The accepted synonyms for chandelier are pendant, chandelier and ceiling light, to be adapted to the number of squares available. None of these terms refers to a specific model in the collection.
How do you install and maintain a large chandelier?
Switch off the power at the breaker, check the strength of the ceiling fixing point, then connect live, neutral and earth before hanging the assembly. Maintenance is limited to a soft microfibre cloth: dry on metal and aluminium, barely damp on glass. Crystal is dusted piece by piece.
Adjust the cable length before switching on the power: the job is simpler with the fixture on the floor than on the ceiling.
Kitchen chandelier: what precautions?
At IP20, a fixture is suitable for a dry room and not for a direct splash zone. In that case, favour a straight line and simple maintenance, in aluminium or metal. The modern metal ceiling lights make that choice easier in a small kitchen.
Cleaning a crystal chandelier
Crystal is dusted piece by piece, with a soft cloth or a brush, rather than dismantling the whole assembly. Avoid alcohol-based products on the gold parts, and never spray directly onto the body of the fixture. For other large-volume rooms, see the tall floor lamps.
Warranty, dimmer, budget: what to check before buying
The warranty is two years on most models and five years on part of the selection. A minority is compatible with a dimmer, to be checked reference by reference. As for budget, the collection ranges from affordable models to exceptional crystal pieces: each product page shows its current price.
Payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible. Designix customer service answers compatibility questions before ordering.
Dimmer: which models?
Dimmers concern a small part of the selection, often LED models. The silver dimmable chandelier, 48 cm LED ring is one of them: it suits a living room, a dining room or an office. A non-dimmable bulb cancels the point of the dimmer, even on a compatible fixture.
2-year or 5-year warranty
Two years on most references, five years on part of the selection. The difference mainly concerns models with integrated LEDs, whose module cannot be replaced. For a corridor or a hallway, also look at the tall floor lamps and the light fixtures for large offices.
Before confirming, check three points: the diameter in relation to the room, the socket and bulb temperature, then the cable height needed. The full range of light fixture families lets you compare formats, and the LED ceiling lights for large rooms remain the option when a low ceiling rules out a pendant.
Frequently asked questions about the large chandelier
What is a synonym for large chandelier?
A large chandelier is also called a pendant, a suspended light fixture, a ceiling light or a chandelier depending on the context. The word chandelier refers to the fixture with several light points fixed to the ceiling; pendant emphasises the cable, ceiling light the direct mounting. In decoration, chandelier remains the most used term.
Modern living room chandelier: how do you choose one?
For a modern living room, look at the colour of the body before the shape: gold or black match most interiors, smoked glass adds contrast. An E27 socket leaves the choice of bulbs. The format is set by the size of the living room, not the other way round.
Dining room chandelier: what height and what light?
Above a table, you want a wash of light, so several light points and a warm white around 2700 to 3500 K. The height is set by the cable: some references go up to 350 cm, which leaves room under a high ceiling.
Kitchen chandelier: what precautions?
In a kitchen, the models in the collection are IP20: they suit a dry room, not a direct splash zone. Favour an E27 socket for clear lighting, or an integrated LED model, with simple maintenance on aluminium or metal.
Large pendant chandelier: how high can you hang it?
It all depends on the model. Some references offer an adjustable cable from 30 to 145 cm, others go up to 350 cm, which suits hallways and staircases. Always keep the passage clear beneath the fixture and confirm IP20, so a dry room.
