Allow one light source per zone: a low spike for the pool surround, a wall light or a tube for the facade, a table lamp for the relaxation corner. IP65 models in aluminium or plastic hold up best against water spray and splashes from a pool.

Which outdoor light should you choose to light a pool?

The zone dictates the format. A pool surround washed by the jets calls for a low, watertight fitting; a facade needs a model fixed high up; a terrace table is happy with a movable lamp. Start from the terrace plan, not the catalogue.

Outdoor lights for an in-ground pool

On a coping, spikes draw crisp pools of light on the ground without dazzling swimmers: the Olura cylindrical spike, rated IP65, gives a warm white light and pushes straight into the lawn or a border. On a bare wall, the Dyla wall light and the Zentorano LED tube bring a vertical line of light that structures the facade. The rest of the pool surround can be picked from lights dedicated to the pool.

Outdoor lights for an above-ground pool

An above-ground pool cannot be drilled: all the lighting sits around it. A spike in the lawn, a wall light on the facade, a floor lamp on the slab, and you are done. Keep IP65 where water sprays, IP44 further away under cover. The free-standing models for the poolside move with the seasons.

Zone Recommended format Common IP rating Examples from the collection
Pool surround and coping Low spike or bollard IP65 Olura cylindrical spike
Facade and exposed wall Wall light or wall tube IP65 Dyla tube wall light, Zentorano LED tube
Covered terrace Wall light or terrace ceiling light IP44 to IP54 ZenEclat, Cordalba pendant
Relaxation corner and table Outdoor table lamp IP44 Cirelle, Orivano, Marvello, Ondar
Entrance and path Floor lamp or post light IP65 Solaria solar floor lamp, Nortalis post

Once the zones are noted, compare heights and finishes in outdoor lights in a current style before confirming.

What IP rating do you need at the edge of a pool?

The more a light is exposed to spray, the higher its IP rating must be. IP65 suits a pool surround or a slab swept by jets, while IP44 or IP54 is enough under a canopy, against a sheltered wall or on a sheltered terrace table.

IP65 or IP44: where should each model go?

The first digit describes protection against dust, the second against water. The 5 in the first position means dust-tight; the 5 in the second means protected against jets. The 4 corresponds to simple splashes. On the pool surround, stay with IP65. Under a roof overhang, rain does not fall straight: IP44 or IP54 holds its own. The selection is mostly IP65, rounded out with IP44 and IP54 references, also visible in fittings rated IP65 and IP44 references.

What does the IP rating really protect?

The IP rating describes the fitting's resistance to water and dust, nothing more. It replaces neither correct wiring, nor a suitable residual current device, nor the rules for an outdoor electrical installation. In other words, a badly wired IP65 is still a risk. Have the circuit checked by an electrician.

Rating What it means Where to use it
IP44 Protected against water splashes Under a canopy, against a sheltered wall, on a terrace table
IP45 Protected against solid objects and water jets Areas rinsed with a hose, under a roof overhang
IP54 Protected against dust and splashes Covered terrace, under a canopy
IP65 Dust-tight and protected against water jets Pool surround, exposed slab, facade, poolside
IP67 Dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion Highly exposed areas or occasional immersion

LED or solar outdoor pool lights: which to choose?

LED equips almost all pool lights, with an integrated module or an LED bulb. Other models take an E27, G4 or G9 base. Solar remains a minority: it avoids any wiring, like the Solaria floor lamp, rated IP65.

LED outdoor pool lights

An integrated LED module cannot be replaced: so you choose the colour temperature at the time of purchase. A light with a G4 or E27 base leaves the door open instead: you change the bulb if your mood or style evolves. The power of the models in the selection ranges from a few watts for spikes and table lamps up to higher values on posts and large wall lights.

Solar outdoor pool lights

Solar suits a soft ambience and a corner with no power supply: the Solaria solar floor lamp is the example, in IP65, with its globe set on a stand. For strong, constant light once night falls, a powered model remains safer. The two combine very well on the same terrace.

What light colour for the pool surround and terrace?

Warm white, from 2700 to 3500 K, dominates the selection: its soft light flatters the stone and wood of a terrace. Neutral white, from 3500 to 4500 K, and cool white, from 4500 to 6500 K, equip some models, for a crisper result.

Warm white or cool white: which ambience?

Golden warm white warms materials and relaxes after a swim. Neutral white stays discreet, with no yellow cast, and suits entrances and paths. Cool white gives a crisp, bright result, suited to utility areas or a work corner. Around a pool, most models in the selection are warm white.

Can the brightness be adjusted?

Some models accept a dimmer: the light drops a notch for dinner outside and rises again to tidy up the equipment. This compatibility depends on the light and is stated on its product page. Nothing guarantees integration with a home automation system, however: check case by case. The Cirelle table lamp is one of these dimmable models.

Which material and colour stand up to chlorine and sun?

Aluminium and metal dominate the selection, often combined with glass or acrylic, while plastic equips the light and colourful models. In tones, black and white come first, followed by beige, green and grey, easy to match with tiling or a wooden terrace.

Aluminium, metal, plastic or glass: what each material means

Aluminium holds up well outdoors and stays light, which matters for a planted spike. Metal develops a patina over time and ages well. Plastic withstands sea spray and wipes clean with a sponge, an asset near a pool. Glass and acrylic dress the light source and diffuse light without a harsh point. Depending on the model, the warranty runs from two to five years.

Black, white, beige or green: matching the finish to the terrace

A black finish blends into a dark wall or a railing, a white one disappears on a light render. Beige accompanies stone and wood, green sits near a border. The white versions lighten pale facades, and the green tones can be found in green outdoor lights.

How do you install an outdoor light around a pool?

A spike goes into a border, a post is set into the ground, a wall light is fixed to the facade and a floor lamp stands on a slab. To limit glare, aim the beam downwards and keep the source out of the line of sight.

Spike, post or wall light: which installation to choose?

The spike is the simplest: you push it in and aim it. The post requires setting in concrete, but can be seen from far away. The wall light is fixed high up, out of reach of water games. The free-standing floor lamp moves without tools, ideal for testing a spot before drilling. To change register, outdoor lighting with a crafted design gathers the boldest shapes.

Where should the light go to avoid glare?

Aim the beam at the ground, not at the eyes, and keep the source out of the field of view when seated. Plant the spikes at an angle to the seating rather than facing it. A low, wide light illuminates better than a narrow spot aimed upwards. Also think about outbuildings and lighting for outbuildings and the garage, often forgotten in an outdoor plan.

How do you maintain outdoor pool lights?

A soft cloth with soapy water is enough on aluminium, plastic and glass, avoiding abrasive products on painted finishes. At the poolside, spray, chlorine and sun are what mark materials most.

Cleaning without damaging the finish

Wipe with a damp cloth, dry, and use neither an abrasive sponge nor solvent on a painted or lacquered finish. A short, regular clean beats one big clean a year. On glass and acrylic, a mild glass cleaner is enough to restore clarity.

What wears out a light at the poolside

Repeated spray leaves limescale marks, chlorine slowly attacks the least treated metals and the sun fades coloured plastics. An IP65 model in aluminium or plastic needs less attention than a thin shell. Check the seals and fixing screws once a season.

Can pool lighting be matched with the lighting inside the house?

Yes, provided you keep the same light family: a warm white around the pool, carried on by the lights in the living room, kitchen or hallway. Shared finishes, black or white depending on the model, are enough to link outside and inside.

From living room to toilet: keeping the same light family

The warm white of the terrace continues naturally into modern living room lighting and into modern kitchen decor, where it warms wood and stone. A hallway or a small space is handled with a small light for the toilet. The matt black of some wall lights then appears on the indoor lights, and the coherence holds without effort.

Original lights, pendants and exceptional pieces

For an entrance or a relaxation corner, a shape stands out more than a floodlight: that is the role of pieces with a unique design. Above a table, pendant lights carry the terrace light towards the house, and luxury lights go further in design. Whether you are looking for a rare piece or a good clearance deal on lights in Lyon, it all goes through our full selection of lights.

Warranty, delivery and payment: what comes with the order

Depending on the model, the warranty runs from two to five years. Orders are placed with secure payment, tracked delivery and possible returns, and the Designix customer service stays reachable to check a bulb base, a dimension or an IP rating before confirming.

2 to 5 year warranty depending on the model

The warranty period is stated on each product page and varies from one model to another. An IP65 aluminium fitting, designed to stay outside, is not covered like a small accent lamp. Check this point before equipping a whole terrace, especially the pool surround.

Secure payment, tracked delivery and returns

Payment is secure, delivery is tracked and returns are possible if the format or shade does not suit. Need a reference point? Ask customer service at Designix for the exact height, diameter or bulb base before ordering. Head to outdoor lights in a current style to finalise your poolside scheme.

Frequently asked questions

Outdoor lights for an in-ground pool: what precautions?

On an in-ground pool, the surround and coping are the most exposed zones: place IP65 models there, in aluminium or plastic, aimed downwards. The rest of the terrace can take IP44 wall lights or table lamps.

Outdoor lights for an above-ground pool: what can be installed?

An above-ground pool allows no drilling: so you light around it, with a spike planted in the lawn, a wall light on the facade or a floor lamp placed on the terrace. IP65 models resist spray coming from the pool.

Solar outdoor pool lights: is that enough?

Solar suits ambient lighting, with no trench or wiring: the Solaria floor lamp, in IP65, is one example. For strong, constant light, powered models with an LED base remain better suited around a pool.

Outdoor lights for an indoor pool: what is the difference?

Under cover, spray stays limited but humidity is constant: a well-ventilated IP44 or IP54 is often enough, whereas an outdoor pool calls more for IP65 in areas swept by jets, rain and wind.

Living room light colour: should it be the same around the pool?

It is not compulsory, but the same colour temperature links the spaces: a warm white of 2700 to 3500 K around the pool continues naturally into the living room, whereas a cool white creates a visible break in the evening.

Original lights: how do you move away from the classic floodlight?

Replace the ordinary floodlight with a tube, a bollard or a globe: tube shapes dominate the selection, with black, white or coloured finishes, and pieces with a bolder design for a terrace that stands out.

Light shop in Lyon or online order: how to choose?

A light shop in Lyon lets you see the material for real; online, each product page details the bulb base, IP rating, dimensions and colour, which avoids mistakes. Tracked delivery, secure payment and returns cover the whole selection.
