Allow one floor reading lamp per reading area: one near the armchair or sofa, one near the bed. These LED floor reading lamps give warm white light, from 2700 to 3500 K, across almost all of our selection of floor reading lamps, plug into a standard socket and are chosen on height, shade diameter and whether a dimmer is fitted.
What is a LED floor reading lamp and what light does it give?
A LED floor reading lamp is a floor-standing lamp whose LED source gives warm white light in most models. It is intended for indoor use, as confirmed by the IP20 rating on every reference, and is chosen on height, shade diameter and whether a dimmer is fitted.
LED floor reading lamp: mostly warm white light
Colour temperature decides the mood before anything else. Across the collection, warm white (2700 to 3500 K) covers 93% of models: a light close to the old filament bulb, leaning slightly towards amber and not washing out faces in the evening. Neutral white (3500 to 4500 K) and cool white (4500 to 6500 K) remain isolated cases, useful when the lamp also serves as a work light.
A round shade, found on 83% of models, spreads this light downwards and to the sides, without dazzling the person seated. That is the result expected from a reading lamp placed against a wall. To compare finishes, browse all our lighting.
LED floor reading lamp: E27 socket or integrated LED?
The E27 socket is fitted on 73% of models: the bulb is replaceable, so you can change wattage or temperature without buying a new lamp. Integrated LED accounts for 17% of references, with a slimmer assembly and nothing to replace. G9 (7%) and GU10 (3%) remain marginal, mainly on wall lights.
A dimmer is possible on nearly three quarters of models, which matters for lowering the intensity late in the evening. The Lector floor lamp in metal and bamboo illustrates the E27 camp, with a 60 cm shade on a 175 cm height. At the other end, the Vela reading lamp with its curved reading arm relies on a 36 W integrated LED, with a 185 cm stem and a flat 28 cm shade.
Which LED floor reading lamp to choose for a living room?
For a living room, choose a lamp tall enough to place the light above the seat, with a reach that brings the shade towards the sofa. Models in the selection range from 140 to 240 cm, in metal, glass, bronze, steel or fabric depending on the effect you want.
Living room floor lamp: what height and what reach?
First measure the height of your sofa or armchair: the shade should sit above the backrest to light the shoulder and the book, not the back. Tall models, from 210 to 240 cm, go behind the seat; models from 140 to 185 cm suit a lower reading corner or a room under a slope.
The reach, where it exists, goes up to 35 cm: the light moves forward above the sofa without the base getting in the way. Round bases of Ø 25 cm fit into a narrow corner.
Living room floor lamp: near the sofa or in a corner
Near the sofa, the lamp is used for reading; in a corner, it lights the mood and keeps the walkway clear. Check the cord length to the socket before fixing the position, and keep the base out of the traffic path. A dimmable model is set high for reading, low for conversation.
| Model | Material | Socket | Stated wattage | Light temperature | Key dimensions | Style | Recommended rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lector | Metal and bamboo | E27 | 40 W max | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | H 175 cm, shade Ø 60 cm | Bohemian, contemporary | Living room, bedroom, hallway |
| Stévia | Steel, metal and fabric | E27 | 40 W | Warm white and neutral white | H 210 to 240 cm, Ø 45 cm | Modern, contemporary, minimalist | Living room, dining room, office |
| Vela | Plastic and metal | Integrated LED | 36 W | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | H 185 cm, Ø 28 cm | Modern, contemporary, nordic | Living room, bedroom, office |
| Orinorano | Glass, bronze and metal | E27 | 40 W | Warm white 2700 to 3500 K | H 140 cm, reach 35 cm, base Ø 25 cm | Vintage, modern, contemporary | Living room, bedroom, office |
For a large living room, the Stévia floor lamp with round base goes up to 240 cm and takes two light temperatures. For a lower corner and light that reaches towards the sofa, look at the Orinorano floor lamp in bronze and opal glass: 140 cm high, 35 cm reach, 25 cm base.
Do you need a flexible LED floor reading lamp or a fixed model?
Direction changes everything for reading: some models in the selection have a curved arm, an adjustable tube or a movable head, the others are fixed. An adjustable reading lamp lets the light fall right on the book or keyboard without lighting the whole room.
Design LED floor reading lamp: arc, tube or articulated arm?
Round shapes dominate the collection by a wide margin, carried by the classic shade. Then come the tube, which concentrates light on a narrow line, then the arc, which reaches far above the seat. A few pieces go for the ball or an original silhouette. Modern and contemporary style covers nine references out of ten, with minimalist, nordic or bohemian touches depending on the finish.
An articulated arm or an adjustable tube is not only for reading: it lets you direct light onto a wall, a picture or a plant. See design reading lamps for this kind of silhouette.
LED floor reading lamp: how to adjust the direction?
On a model with a movable head, tilt the shade downwards and forwards, never towards the eyes. The light should fall on the page, not across the room. Two wall references show this principle well: the Vory wall reading light with adjustable tube and the Valranara wall reading light with articulated arm, whose reach adjusts from 140 to 185 cm.
On a fixed model, direction is set at installation: you choose the angle of the base and the distance to the wall. That is often enough for mood lighting. The rest of the Designix lighting range covers other forms of accent lighting.
Where to install floor reading lamps in the home?
In the selection, these lamps find their place in the living room and bedroom, often also in the office, more rarely in a dining room or hallway. In the bedroom, a low, discreet model near the bed; in the living room, a taller model near the sofa.
Living room and bedroom: the two most cited rooms
Living room and bedroom each appear on 97% of references. In the bedroom, place the lamp at mattress height, twenty or thirty centimetres from the edge of the bed: the light falls on the book without waking the other person. In the living room, allow one lamp per armchair rather than a single one in the middle. Bedside reading lamps cover this first use.
Office, dining room, hallway: when a floor reading lamp is enough
The office appears on 43% of models, the dining room on 20%, the hallway on 3%. In an office corner, an adjustable light in warm or neutral white avoids reflections on the screen. In a dining room, an accent reading lamp lights a late meal without turning on the whole room, without replacing the ceiling light.
How to match a design LED floor reading lamp with the room?
Black dominates the selection, ahead of white and silver, with a few pieces in bronze or gold. In terms of material, metal comes first, followed by steel, velvet and fabric. A round shade fits most interiors, from modern to bohemian.
Black, white or silver: what colour for a floor reading lamp?
Black, found on nearly half of references, creates contrast and structures a light interior. White, on a little over a third, blends into an already pale decor and visually lightens a small living room. Silver, on a third of models, gives a sharper, almost graphic look. Bronze (10%) and gold (10%) bring a warm note, best kept for a room that accepts patinated finishes.
Velvet, metal or glass: the material changes the light
Velvet and fabric, found on a significant share of models, stop part of the light and make it softer. Opal glass spreads it widely, without a marked hot spot. Metal and bamboo bring warmth to the structure more than to the light. To take the comparison further, look at black reading lamps, white models and gold finishes.
Bamboo and wood pair well with a warm interior: see wood and bamboo reading lamps. Bronze remains the rarest finish: bronze reading lamps.
How to connect several lamps to a single power point?
Each reading lamp in the selection comes with its own cord and plug: it plugs into a socket, not into another lamp's cable. For several lamps on the same point, use a multi-socket extension and add up the stated wattages, from 6 to 40 W.
Multi-socket or power strip: the right method
Note the stated wattage on each model, between 6 and 40 W depending on the reference, and check that a dimmer does not use extra margin. Group the plugs on a quality multi-socket, without adding any high-power appliance. A reading lamp uses little: that is precisely what makes it possible to bring several together in the same place.
When to call an electrician
Adding a supply point, burying a cable in a wall or creating a fixed point on a switch is a job for a professional. The same applies if the line is old or the consumer unit has no free space. For a simple connection, the existing socket is enough.
| Source type | What it changes in use | Share of the selection |
|---|---|---|
| E27 socket | Replaceable bulb, the most common | 73% |
| Integrated LED | Slimmer assembly, non-replaceable source | 17% |
| G9 socket | Small bulb for compact volumes | 7% |
| GU10 socket | Adjustable bulb for directional lighting | 3% |
How to install and maintain a LED floor reading lamp?
Assembly needs no special tool on most models, with a round base that ensures stability. All references are IP20, so indoor use only. A dry cloth is enough for dusting, and the two-year warranty covers the whole selection.
The dimmer: adjusting intensity to the moment
Nearly three quarters of models accept a dimmer. It is the most useful function day to day: full intensity for reading or working, low intensity to accompany the end of an evening without lighting the whole room. On a model with an E27 bulb, choose a dimmer compatible with the bulb fitted.
IP20: why these reading lamps stay indoors
The whole selection is rated IP20, meaning protection against contacts and solid dust, but no protection against water. So keep them out of damp rooms and on a dry floor. For velvet, linen, fabric and bamboo, avoid harsh products and moisture; a duster or soft cloth is enough.
Secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and Designix customer service accompany every order. To choose between two heights, work from the space available around the seat, then order: the model assembles in a few minutes, head to floor reading lamps and Designix lighting to finalise your reading corner.
Frequently asked questions
Which LED floor reading lamp should I choose for a living room?
First look at the height, so the shade sits above the seat, then the reach, which brings the light towards the sofa. In the selection, floor lamps range from 140 to 240 cm, in metal, glass, bronze or fabric, usually with a round shade.
How do I connect several lamps to a single power point?
The reading lamps in the selection each plug into a socket with their own plug. To group several on the same point, use a multi-socket extension and add up the stated wattages, from 6 to 40 W. To create a new supply point, an electrician is better.
Does a LED floor reading lamp replace a ceiling light or a chandelier?
No, it does not play the same role. A ceiling light or chandelier lights the room from above; a floor reading lamp brings localised light, usually warm white, near an armchair, a bed or a desk. The two complement each other.
Is a flexible LED floor reading lamp useful for working?
Yes, if the light can be directed. In the selection, some models have a curved arm, an adjustable tube or a movable head; the light falls on the keyboard or the page without lighting the whole room. The dimmer, found on a large share of models, helps in the evening.
What colour of floor reading lamp for a modern living room?
Black dominates the selection, ahead of white and silver. In a light interior, a black or bronze model creates clear contrast; in an already dark decor, white or brushed steel lightens it. Gold and bronze remain rarer finishes.
How do I maintain a LED floor reading lamp?
A dry cloth is enough for the shade and the arm, avoiding harsh products on velvet, linen, fabric and bamboo. All references in the selection are IP20, so keep them indoors. The two-year warranty covers the whole selection.
