Count one crystal wall light on each side of a mirror, a bed or a worktop, and check three things before buying: the socket, the light temperature and the IP rating. All the crystal wall lights in this collection are rated IP20, for dry indoor use, with pendants, balls or cut drops on gold or silver mounts.

What is a crystal wall light and what light does it give?
A crystal wall light is a wall fitting whose pendants, balls or cut drops diffuse and bounce light onto the wall. Here, the mounts are in crystal, glass, brass, metal or iron, in gold or silver finishes, for decorative accent lighting indoors.
Crystal wall lamp: how to recognise it
Crystal comes first among the materials, followed by glass for contemporary models, then metal, brass and iron for the frames. Gold dominates the finishes, ahead of silver, black, red and white. A crystal wall lamp is recognisable by its hanging elements: pendants, cut drops, balls, mounted in a cascade on a backplate. The shapes found in the collection are the ball, the tube, the cascade, the dome and the arc.
Indoor crystal wall light: the intended use
The whole selection is rated IP20, so for dry indoor spaces. It does not replace a ceiling light: it highlights a wall, frames a mirror or sits alongside a worktop. To compare sizes, browse indoor wall lights. The other families in the catalogue are gathered in all our lighting.
Where to install a crystal wall light in the home?
In this collection, crystal wall lights are mainly used in a studio or office, then in the living room, bedroom, bathroom and hallway. All are rated IP20: they stay indoors, away from showers and direct water spray.
| Room | Main use | Criteria to check | Shapes and models in the collection |
|---|---|---|---|
| Living room | Accent lighting and wall decor | E14 or G9 socket, warm white 2700-3500 K, IP20, two light points on each side of a mirror | Biverre, double shade in clear and opal glass, Ø 22 cm |
| Bedroom | Soft light on each side of the bed | Warm white, compact size, dimmable intensity if a dimmer is provided | Biverre in black finish, Nare with G9 bulb and dimmer |
| Studio and office | Work wall, crisp light | Direction of the source, clearance above the worktop, IP20 | Agostino, Ottaviano, Celestino, Valranissa |
| Hallway and staircase | Grazing light without glare | Compact format, mounted at hand height, two wall lights staggered | Biverre 22 cm, Muralia in cascade |
| Bathroom and toilet | Localised light near the mirror | IP20 mandatory, outside direct water spray, small format | Nare, glass and bronze, G9 bulb |
Crystal living room wall light
In the living room, the wall light acts as accent lighting and decorative relief. The Biverre model, in metal and clear and opal glass, is 22 cm wide and takes an E14 socket up to 40 W. You can install it as a pair on either side of a sofa. More options are gathered in wall lighting for the living room.
Staircase wall light
On a staircase and in a hallway, install at hand height, staggered or on either side of the flight, to light the steps without glare. Compact formats limit cast shadows. See staircase wall lighting and, for circulation areas, hallway wall lights.
Designer toilet wall light, which wall format
For a toilet or a bathroom, choose a small format, a light localised near the mirror and an installation outside the water spray zone. The Nare model, in glass, bronze and aluminium with a G9 bulb and dimmer, measures 10 cm. The bedroom follows the same principles, with a bedroom wall lamp.
Which style of crystal wall light to choose?
Three families dominate: baroque, with pendants, cut drops and two arms; modern, more graphic, in clear or opal glass on a black or metal mount; boho, with a crystal and brass cascade. Contemporary, vintage and country chic styles complete the selection.
| Style | Associated materials | Colours | Effect in the room | Models |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Baroque | Crystal, brass and gilded iron | Gold, silver | Pendants and cut drops that catch the light | Brachia, Aelius, Mirranisto, Valranessa, Kalranisto, Belranina, Leonzio, Baroqa |
| Modern | Metal and glass, clear or opal glass | Black, white | Clean lines, more direct light | Biverre, Modena |
| Boho | Crystal and brass | Silver, gold | Crystal cascade, scattered reflections | Muralia |
| Vintage and country chic | Bronze, crystal, aluminium, glass | Gold, bronze, red | Warm, patinated reading of the wall | Nare |
| Contemporary | Crystal and glass | Silver, gold | Understated wall, crystal as the only relief | Baroque and boho selection in the collection |
Boho and boho chic wall light
Boho chic is recognisable by crystal mounted in a cascade with brass, with free lines and scattered reflections: this is the case with the Muralia boho cascade. This register remains a minority in the selection, which makes it easy to spot. A country chic reading leans more on bronze and red, as on Nare.
Modern living room wall light
Modern focuses on clarity: metal mount, clear or opal glass, more direct light. The Modena, glass ball, and the Biverre double shade give two examples. To widen the search, compare wall lights with a modern design and glass models.
Original wall light
Breaking away from the classic often means moving to a two-arm baroque piece, such as the Agostino baroque wall light, or a crystal ball mounted on a backplate. The crystal then becomes the light point of the wall rather than a support. These options overlap with ball shapes and gold finishes.
Which socket, which bulb and which light temperature?
The sockets present are G9, E14 and E27, and some models are LED. The temperature is split between warm white 2700-3500 K and cool white 4500-6500 K. The wattages recorded range from 15 W to 40 W, and a few models accept a dimmer.
Crystal LED wall light: what it changes
On an LED model, the source is integrated or hard to replace: the output is stable over time and the bulb does not need changing. On a socket model, you keep control over the light colour and the wattage the socket accepts. E14 and E27 sockets remain the easiest to upgrade, and the relevant mounts are gathered in metal mounts.
Warm white or cool white for a crystal wall
Warm white 2700-3500 K warms the crystal and suits the living room, bedroom and staircase. Cool white 4500-6500 K gives a crisper wall, useful in an office and above a worktop. In the same room, it is better to keep a single temperature to avoid a wall that clashes with the rest of the lighting.
How to get a crystal wall light with a powerful look in the living room?
For a living room, a wall light with a replaceable E27 or E14 bulb, or an LED model, works better, and multiplying light points beats a single source. The wattage recorded in the collection goes up to 40 W; the result also depends on the distance from the wall.
Powerful living room wall light
Maximum wattage is capped by the socket, not by the crystal: a 40 W E14 wall light, such as Biverre, lights more than a small 15 W G9 model. Check the strongest bulb accepted before buying, then adjust the distance from the wall: a source too close to the wall concentrates the light into a halo.
Several wall lights or just one
Two symmetrical wall lights light more widely than a single one placed in the centre of a large wall, and they balance the room. On a staircase or in a hallway, alternating two staggered points is better than a single point in the middle. The volumes of each room are classified in ball shapes and in our lighting catalogue.
How to install and care for a crystal wall light?
Fix the backplate to the wall, away from rubbing areas, at shoulder height or above a worktop depending on use, and check the weight before drilling: some baroque models weigh several kilos. Crystal is dusted dry, without abrasive products.
How to install a wall light
Mark the position of the backplate, check the nature of the surface and the weight of the piece before drilling: the Valranissa, gilded baroque style crystal, is listed at 6 kg. Align two wall lights with a spirit level, then connect to the existing box. If the connection goes beyond your usual comfort, call an electrician.
Cleaning crystal without dulling it
A soft, dry cloth is enough for the pendants and cut drops. Avoid abrasive products, alcohol and rough sponges, which scratch the glass and dull the crystal. On gold or silver mounts, limit yourself to regular dusting, without immersion: these wall lights are not designed to be dismantled and washed with plenty of water.
Can a crystal wall light be installed outdoors?
No: all the wall lights in this collection are rated IP20, a rating intended for dry indoor use. For a facade, a porch or a wall exposed to rain, you need a waterproof outdoor wall light, with a higher IP rating than this one.
Waterproof outdoor wall light: the criteria
On a facade, look for a material resistant to moisture and an IP rating higher than IP20, suited to water spray. The crystal in this selection is not treated for those conditions: it would stay in dry indoor spaces. Indoor wall lights for the home are gathered in the wall lights section.
Where crystal is still possible in a damp area
In a bathroom, crystal is still possible outside direct spray zones, for example near a mirror or on a sheltered wall, keeping an IP20 model such as Nare. Keep it away from the shower, the bathtub and any wet worktop. See bathroom lighting for other formats.
How to choose between an affordable model and a statement piece?
The gap comes down to the material and the work on the crystal: metal and glass mounts for affordable models, cut crystal, brass and pendants for statement pieces.
Cheap crystal wall light
The most affordable models combine metal and glass rather than cut crystal, or are limited to a single light source and a compact format. This does not affect the build quality, only the amount of crystal and the number of hanging elements. These are the options gathered in affordable models.
Statement piece: what justifies the choice
On a statement piece, the work on the crystal, the brass and the backplate explain the difference: cut pendants, drops, cascade, two arms. It is often installed alone, on a wall that becomes the light point. The size chart and the shapes in the collection can be compared in metal mounts and ball shapes.
Designix supports the choice from start to finish: secure payment, tracked delivery, returns and customer service. First choose the socket, the temperature and the room, then confirm the model that fits those constraints. Our lighting catalogue lets you finish the selection room by room.
Frequently asked questions about the crystal wall light
Which living room wall light to choose?
For a living room, a crystal wall light with an E14 or G9 socket, in warm white 2700-3500 K, lights without flattening the room. The Biverre model, with its two clear and opal glass shades, is installed on either side of a mirror or a sofa, at shoulder height.
How to get a powerful LED wall light?
Part of the collection is LED, the rest uses replaceable G9, E14 or E27 bulbs: it is on those models that you can fit the strongest bulb the socket accepts. The wattage recorded in the selection ranges from 15 W to 40 W.
Which wall light to choose for a toilet or a bathroom?
The Nare wall light, in glass and bronze with a G9 bulb and dimmer, suits a bathroom or a toilet. As the whole collection is IP20, install it outside direct water spray zones, never in the shower or against a wet worktop.
How to light a staircase with a wall light?
On a staircase, install the wall lights at hand height, staggered or on either side of the flight, to light the steps without glare. Compact formats, such as Biverre at 22 cm, limit cast shadows on the steps.
Can a waterproof outdoor crystal wall light be installed?
No: all the wall lights in this collection are rated IP20, a rating intended for dry indoor use. A terrace, a porch or a facade wall requires a waterproof outdoor wall light, with a higher IP rating. Indoors, crystal is still possible on a sheltered wall.
